The first half of this course focused on Alfred Hitchcock and how his techniques are now recognized
as iconic. From class discussions and film screenings, it is clear that Hitchcock pays every attention to
detail when he crafts a scene. Many Hitchcock films we have seen this semester highlight how he
builds suspense through cinematic elements such as shadow, dialogue, and composition. While many

Throughout the conversation between John and Francie, the shadows cover the characters in different
ways. For the majority of this scene, Francie has minimal shadows on her. It is as if the moonlight is
shining on her. The only instance where part of her body is covered in shadow is when she steps back
into the dark, saying, the thrill is right there in front of you, but you can t quite get it. Her face
disappears, but the necklace remains visible and sparkling for the audience and John to see. On the
other hand, John has half of his face covered in shadow several times while they are watching the
fireworks. While Francie is tempting John as well as getting him to admit his true identity, John
disregards Francie s scenarios and states that he would not take part in such acts. The fact that we can
see one side of his face could mean that John is trying to conceal his identity as the former cat burglar.
Hitchcock could have manipulated the shadows to highlight John s dual identity. The only reason I can
think of for why Francie s shots are not covered in as many shadows is that Hitchcock wanted to
emphasize her beauty to the audience and to John. As Francie continues to tempt John, the romantic
suspense builds as the firework display continues. The scene starts with John and Francie facing each
other as the fireworks display is occurring between them. The fireworks serve as a symbol of the
relationship between John and Francie. As the scene progresses, the fireworks displays goes from

November, 2015 Mandatory Overtime and the Impact it has on Nurse Safety
Problem
This paper addresses how mandatory overtime shifts cause safety problems on the floor, and how
these shifts impact nurses safety. Safety errors can happen in the blink of an eye, and happen more
than most healthcare systems would like to admit. On going issues with nursing shortages have led to
an increase in the amount of hours worked overtime. Numerous studies show that mandatory overtime
causes an increase in safety errors among nurses in the healthcare setting. According to the article
based on the observational study titled, Scheduling and shift work characteristics associated with risk
for occupation injury in newly licensed registered nurses , there is a direct association between
overtime and night shifts and an increased risk for injury (Stimpfel, Brewer, Kovner, 2015). The
statistics from this study show the serious impact overtime can have on a nurses safety, with results
stating that nurses working weekly overtime were associated with a 32% increase in the risk of a
needle stick over those who did not work extended hours (Stimpfel, 2015).

Even though her part is approximately 260 lines, it delivers such an important dramatic purpose. Her

While Cassandra was in Troy, she had visions of what was going to happen to the City and this caused
the King Priam to lock her away in the sense of her being mad . One of her visions was that there were

in what is seen as her curse, the chorus believes her but will do nothing to help her. Some parallels can
be seen between Cassandra and Tiresias, the Seer, from Oedipus and Antigone in the sense that the
both speak the truth but are not believed. Tiresias the honorable Seer for the City of Thebes is pained
when he has to tell Oedipus, as well as, Creon the truth of what his visions held. Tiresias tells

Sex, Magic and the Golden Ass The theme of curiosity in The Golden Ass has different relationships
with sex, magic and knowledge. The curiosity about magic, turns to the desire to possess the magic
and to learn how to use it. The main character of The Golden Ass, Lucius, ignores many warnings
about practicing magic and the witch Pamphile who uses it. When Lucius lover Photis explains the
role that magic had in the prank that was pulled on him, Lucius curiosity about magic is once again
revived. He convinces Photis to watch Pamphile preform magic and then convinces her to steal some
of Pamphile s magic in order to turn himself into a bird. This action led to Lucius accidentally being
turned into an ass. Before he can eat roses, which will turn him back into a human, he is carried off by
a band of robbers. Lucius insatiable curiosity about magic and possessing is what causes him to turn
into a donkey. The story of Cupid and Psyche is another warning about the dangers of curiosity. When
Cupid saves Psyche from his mother Venus wrath caused by jealousy of Psyche s beauty, he warns her
never to try and look upon his face or find out who he is or else he will leave her. Cupid tells his new

The Case of Mrs. Wells This is a case about 73 year old women from Chicago, Illinois, named Mrs.
Wells. She was brought into the emergency room by her care taker and she was in respiratory distress.

of Dupin using inductive detection is when he begins to observe the little details in a logical way,
