6. Drawing Pencils
Pencils are also used in
drawings, for making drawings or
to draw lines.
Pencils have a graphite
rod inside the hard cover of wood.
Pencils are classified on the basis of
their graphite rod.
Pencils are classified as;
• Hard
• Medium
• Soft
7. Classification of Pencils:
Hard
Pencils
4H,5H,6H,7H,8H,9
H
Hard lead are used where
extreme accuracy is required.
Generally these leads are used for
construction lines.
These pencils make light lines.
They lay light impact on page.
Medium
Pencils
3H,2H,H,F,HB,B
Medium lead pencils are used for
general purpose line work in
technical drawing.
Soft Pencils
2B,3B,4B,5B,6B,7B
Soft leads are used for various kinds
of artwork. These leads are too much
soft to be useful in mechanical
drafting.
8. Method before
using pencil.
Remove the wood with penknife while expose a lead about
8-10 mm.
Polish the lead into a conical shape with a
sandpaper.
Clean the lead with tissue paper.
9. Eraser
As it cleared from the name of
eraser the it is used to erase the
drawing sheet.
10. Drawing paper
These are the sheets on which we draw
our drawing. These sheets comes in
various sizes. We use A2 size sheet for
making our drawing.
11. Try square
This is a type of scale which is used
to set the sheet onto the drawing
board and to draw different types of
line of different measurement. It
contains a head on it one side which
gives the reference along side the
drawing board to draw the lines.
20. Protractor
Set square can be used to make
the angles of 30,60,90,45. but if
we want to make the angles
15degree then we use the
protector. It is a d-shaped
instrument .
21. French curve
This is a type of curves which are used
to draw different curved surfaces like
the shape of ellipse.
23. Drawing papers and specification
Trimmed paper of
a size A0 ~ A4.
Standard sheet size
(JIS)
A4 210 x 297
A3 297 x 420
A2 420 x 594
A1 594 x 841
A0 841 x 1189

(Dimensions in millimeters)
24. While making the drawings normally
we use A2 size sheets . The size of the
sheet depends upon the drawing or
the shape.
26. Care and maintenance for proper
drawing
For the achievement of good output we must follow the following steps
First of all you must wash your hand .
Clamp the sheet straight onto the paper with the help of the t square.
Be assure that your drawing board is 90 degree from every side.
Don’t rub your hands onto the sheets.
Don’t rub any type of instrument onto the drawing sheet
Use the compass with the light hand so that it does not damages the sheet.
27. Don’t sharp the pencils over the sheets so that the sheet remains clean.
Before using the instruments clean the instruments .
Don’t put the books over the sheet to avoid any damage.
When you rub the any shape then use the eraser lightly so that it does not damage the sheet.
Use the tissue paper to remove the erased material from the sheet.
