Drafting
Tools and
Equipment
Drawing Board
It is made of dry wood with a smooth
surface and corners at right angles. It is
large flat wood where the paper is
fastened with drafting tape or masking
tape.
T-square
It is made of celluloid materials with
straight edges along a wooden blade. This
instrument used in drawing straight
horizontal lines.
Parallel Bar
It is attached by cleats and pulleys to a particular
drawing surface. It allows the drafter to draw long
horizontal lines and it also serves as a base for the
placement of triangles and other instruments for a
precise drawing.
Drafting Machine
It is fixed to the drawing board and consists of
vertical and horizontal blades that serve as scales
for linear measurement, eliminating the need for
triangles and T-square for drawing vertical and
horizontal lines.
Triangle
It is a three-sided instrument used with a
T-square, used in creating lines from a
horizontal base.
Types of Triangle
• 30x60 degree triangles
Used in projecting isometric
drawing/lines
Types of Triangle
• 45x45 degree
triangle,
Usually used in
projecting lines
in oblique
drawing
Drawing Pencil
It is used to project lines or sketch drawings.
Wood-cased Pencil
Drawing Pencil
It is used to project lines or sketch drawings.
Traditional point lead-holder
Drawing Pencil
It is used to project lines or sketch drawings.
Fine-line Mechanical Pencil
Technical Pen
It can be used for both freehand
and drafted ink drawings. It is
capable of producing precise line
width
Compass
It is an inverted V-shaped
instrument that is used in drawing
arcs and circles.
Scale
This is a special ruler that can be used in
measuring variety of units, and which can
draw object larger than or smaller than,
or the same size as the real object.
Eraser
It is to remove unwanted
lines or sketches in a
drawing.
Electric Eraser
Ink Eraser
Erasing Shield
It is made of thin flat metal or plastic
with cutouts of various sizes and
shapes. It protects the drawn lines
from being erased.
Protractor
It is used to plot angles on
working drawing. It has
caliberated angles from 0 to 360
degrees
French Curve
It is consist of templates, which are
excellent tools for drawing
irregular curved lines that are not
part of a circle or ellipse.
Drafting Tape
It is used to fasten the
paper on the drawing
board.
Adjustable Triangles
This tool can be set for any angle, from 0 to
45 degrees. This is convenient for situations
requiring a variety of sloping lines, such as
stairs or slanted ceilings.
Templates
The template has different shapes, holes
and designs. The shape serves as a
pattern in projecting accurate drawing of
circles and other shapes or drawings.
