Magnets - Not Drugs: TMS IMMH San Antonio 2014Louis Cady, MD
In this talk, Dr. Cady covers a remarkable new treatment for depression: transcranial magnetic stimulation. The historical roots of this treatment are traced, followed by a review of the literature in terms of the proven efficacy of this treatment. A comparison with ECT shows that TMS has a very favorable profile, with remarkably fewer side effects and incredibly better tolerated side effects compared to ECT. Given that this was a "CME" talk, off-label uses of TMS were reviewed, including stepping stones for future avenues to explore

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

66. Infraslow oscillations < 0.1 Hz (EEG)(Hughes 2011)
Discovered in 1957 by Aladjalova
Coincide with long lasting hyperpolarization
Based on K+ channels
Hyperpolarization in thalamus (part of rich
club) results in bursting
Which requires ca influx through T channels
Cross-frequency couples with alpha in thalamus
Alpha consists of tonic and burst firing
Burst at 4Hz @130-200 Hz spike mode

71. Subjective Effects of Sinusoidal tACS
• Mastoids Montage
• Is there a consistent response at different
frequencies?
72. tACS vs Neurofeedback
• Simpler to use and wider applicability
• Consistent responses/Efficient Response
• Targeting Specificity is an issue
Does it train the brain? The effects last?
73. tACS vs Neurofeedback
tACS is good for stimulating large areas of the brain across a
wide range of frequencies
Fehmi Analog trainer: whole brain synchrony
tACS good Ultra Low and Ultra High
74. Ultra Low Frequencies
.0001 to 0.9 Hz
• Glial Cell Activity, particularly Astrocytes
• Manage thalamic excitability, energy and firing tone
• Autonomic Regulation
• Rest/Digest (PNS) vs Flight/Fight (SNS)
