Dr. Deependra Kumar Jha has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of UPES. He has over 15 years of experience in research, teaching, and academic administration. Throughout his career, Dr. Jha has focused on outcome-based education and accreditation. His areas of expertise include developing academic programs and curricula. Previously, Dr. Jha held leadership roles at several universities, including Founder Dean and Vice Chancellor, where he collaborated with international universities and industries. He has received several awards for his research achievements and holds a doctorate from Hiroshima University, Japan.

DR DEEPENDRA KUMAR JHA IS THE NEW UPES VICE CHANCELLOR
Dr Deependra Kumar Jha joined UPES as Vice Chancellor on 8th
August, 2017. An astute professional with
experience in research, teaching & academic administration, Dr Jha has pursued the philosophy of
outcome-based education and accreditation throughout his career. Being a thorough educator his
expertise lies in development of academic programs, curricula and regulations.
Sharing the details, Mr. Arun Dhand, Director – Media Affairs informed that Dr Jha brings a good mix of
expertise in technical roles on account of his experience of working with reputed corporates in India,
Nepal & Japan and subsequently in the academic world wherein he has been successful in developing &
building institutions in all his roles. He has worked as Senior Faculty & International Relations
Coordinator at VIT University, Vellore and Founder Dean, School of Engineering & Technology at
Galgotias University. Thereafter, he served at GD Goenka University in several capacities which included
Dean - School of Engineering, Dean - Academics, Pro Vice Chancellor and eventually as the Vice
Chancellor where he efficaciously collaborated with premier universities & industries of the world.
A recipient of several awards & honors in his career, Dr Jha was awarded the Excellent Researcher
Award at Hiroshima University, Japan for his outstanding academic achievements for two consecutive
years in 2008 & 2009 besides receiving the prestigious Japanese Government Scholarship,
Monbukagakusho, to pursue his postgraduate research from 2006 to 2010.
His research interests include Power System Planning & Operation, Renewable Energy Technology,
Power System Reliability, Smart-Grid etc. He holds patent and has authored a number of publications in
several reputed international journals and conference proceedings in these fields. Dr Jha is a member of
several professional organizations including IEEE and has travelled extensively, abroad & within the
country, to present research papers and deliver invited lectures at various premier international
conferences. He has also been Member (Evaluator) and Co-chair of inspection teams of National Board
of Accreditation (NBA) to several Institutes/Universities. His credentials include a Doctorate in
Engineering in ‘Electrical Power System Engineering’ from Hiroshima University, Japan.
