The UPES SPE Student Chapter won its 4th consecutive Outstanding Student Chapter Award for the 2016-17 academic year. It has established itself as one of the most influential student-run organizations among the over 350 SPE chapters globally. The chapter hosted technical guest lectures from industry and academia. It was represented at prestigious conferences and also hosted visits from leaders in the oil and gas industry. An international petroleum quiz saw over 1,400 participants from 26 countries. The chapter strives to enhance its legacy through strengthening international ties, public relations, and alumni connections while bringing recognition and exposure to students across domains and countries.

UPES SPE STUDENT CHAPTER: OUTSTANDING AWARD
The University of Petroleum & Energy Studies Society of Petroleum Engineers (UPES SPE) Student
Chapter was established in 2009 under the SPE North India Section, and has since then carved a
niche for itself by virtue of its operations, outreach and engagement as well as technical and
professional competence. The Chapter is currently one of the most influential student-run
organizations amongst 350+ such Chapters across the globe, with consecutive awards in the last 7
years bestowed by SPE International.
The Chapter has recently won its 4th
consecutive Outstanding Student Chapter Award because of
the path-breakingprogress made inthe academicsessionof 2016-17, withwidespread influence on
its members in terms of exemplary technical exposure, industry outreach and membership
retention.Technicalguestlecturesbyadiverse confluence of illustriousindustry-academiadelegates
from companies like Reliance India Limited, Halliburton, Royal Dutch Shell, Dragon Oil and
institutions like IIT Madras were conducted across the academic session.
The Chapterwas represented by its members in prestigious conferences like SPE Annual Technical
Conference andExhibition(ATCE) Dubai,SPELondon Annual Conference,IndiaDrilling&Exploration
Conference (IDEC) Mumbai, India Oil Gas and Renewable Energy Summit (IORS) Mumbai, SPE
Mumbai Section DLP, among others.
The Chapter also had the pleasure of hosting the visit of stalwarts like Mr. D.K. Sarraf, CMD, ONGC
along with the Ambassador of Venezuela, His Excellency Mr. Augusto Montiel.
PetroleumOlympiad4.0 – the online international technical quiz witnessed a participation of over
1400 participantsfromover26 countries.The Chapter,inline withthe mission of SPE International,
conducted a host of flagship weeks that polished the technical skills of its members. With Battle
Energia,the Chapter broadened its community outreach to over 5000 students across 49 schools of
the nation, generating valuable energy awareness.
The UPES SPE Fest & Conference 2017 was home to a variety of technical and professional events,
with 411 participants from eminent colleges in India and abroad like Kazakh National Technical
University, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Indian School of Mines Dhanbad, Pandit Deendayal
Petroleum University, Vellore Institute of Technology and others. The Conference witnessed the
onset of 10 speakers and other prestigious industry professionals, working with majors like
Schlumberger, OIL, ONGC, RIL etc.
With an outlook for social contributions, the Chapter conducted various cleanliness and donation
drives,withspecial emphasis on community training and women empowerment. As a student-run
team, the Chapter strives to keep up the legacy of the years gone by and enhance its stronghold in
2017-18 by strengthening its international ties, public relations and alumni connect.
Withan aim to hostglobal eventsof SPEInternational like PetroBowl Regional Qualifiers or Regional
Student Paper Contest, the UPES SPE Student Chapter is constantly working towards its ultimate
goal of bringingrecognitionandqualityexposure tonot only the students of all domains within the
University, but across the entire country and beyond.
