1. CSI NATIONAL STUDENT CONVENTION YUGMAK
With a series of new and exciting events, UPES-CSI Student Chapter organized the CSI National Student
Convention YUGMAK and this time it was more bigger and better. The convention was held on 4th
-5th of
February 2016 consisting of several exhilarating events. The theme for the National Convention was
SMAC (Social Mobile Analytics and Cloud). There were different categories of events which included
Fun events, Technical events, Quiz events and Presentations. This time we were honored to Sh. Deepak
Kumar Gairola (Secretary, Science and Technology, Govt. of Uttarakhand), have with us as a Chief
Guest.
INNAUGRATION CEREMONY:
The inauguration ceremony was hosted by Aishwarya Banerjee and Anmol Rastogi. We began the
ceremony by welcoming our esteemed guests Mr. Deepak Kumar Gairola (Secretary, Science and
Technology, Govt. of Uttarakhand) Mr. Arun Sharma (Senior Systems Analyst, NIC),and Vinod Taneja
(Technical director NIC) with a bouquet. The ceremony was enlightened with the presence of Dr.Kamal
Bansal Dean COES, Mr.Mithil (IBM),Mr.Kumar Abhishek Shahi(Oracle). All the above mentioned
dignitaries lightened the lamp. We then had Saraswati Vandana as the program could not have started
without the blessings of Maa Saraswati. Following that we then had a speech by Mr. Mahesh Rakheja
who had conducted a very successful workshop the previous year. We proceeded the ceremony with a
gracious classical dance by Tanya which added more life to it. We then presented momentos to the
dignitaries Mr.Deepak Kumar,Mr. Vinod Taneja,Mr.Mithil ,Mr.Mahesh Rakheja ,Mr. Deepak Kumar
Gairola and Mr. Kumar Abhishek Saini. The Joint Secretary of UPES-CSI student chapter Pulkit Gupta
then presented the annual report to the audience following that a speech was addressed by the
President of UPES-CSI Mr. Mayank Mahajan who was acknowledged with the Most Dedicated Student
award. Mr. Vinod Taneja and Mr. Deepak Kumar Gairolo then addressed the gathering. After that Mr.
Kumar Abhishek Saini had a very interesting and productive interactive session with the audience and
we then reached to the end of the ceremony. The inauguration ceremony was concluded with a vote of
thanks by Miss. Richa Choudhary.
2. Details of the events are described below:
Code Rush
Think Beyond Your Limit
This is a type of code-decoding, and involves forming a code from information given in the form of raw
data (e.g.:- story type, OR in the form of a song). The participants have to extract essential information
from data to form a code, or at least form an algorithm to depict the data idea about what is happening
(or operations taking place in program). (There can be multiple rounds, with increasing difficulty levels.
Additionally, there can be tie-breakers to ensure simplicity in evaluation)

This event consists of 5 events to test the contestants’ real life situation handling abilities, basic
computer skills like knowledge of OS, coding abilities, video graphics knowledge, technical skills and
creativity.

4. Add-Action
This is a 3 round event
Round 1 –The audios of some famous advertisements would be played for the teams, the teams would
recognize the brand. At the end of round of 1, 2 teams will be eliminated
Round 2- Mute Visuals would be played of different advertisements & teams would provide an audio to
the visual in their own words. 2 more teams will be eliminated at the end of this round. Rest of the
teams will make it to round 3.
Round 3- Teams will have to come up with their own designed brand and advertise it before the
audiences & the audience would rate these brands as per their liking and smart analysis.

5. Picturesque
• This is an individual photography event.
• The participants have to show their unusual view to different things.
• They have to submit 10 photographs at the end of the convention.
• The have to click the photographs during the ongoing events of convention.
• There will be 5 technical and 5 non-technical photographs.
• Each photo should have a caption.
• The evaluation will be based on both the uniqueness of photograph and caption.

6. Fast And Furious
It will be a car racing game consists of a 10 different levels. After each level there will a technical
question. The question will be of MCQ type. Participant has to answer the question to reach to the next
level. A participant will be given 3 chances to attempt the question and if he is unable to answer then he
has to start again from the previous level. Each level will be repeated only twice and after that game will
restart from the beginning. The person who'll reach the maximum level in minimum time will be
considered as the winner.

7. Bamboozled
• It is a team event. A team of two members.
• This event is based on charades.
• The event will have 3 rounds, namely:
•Technical
•Fun
•Famous personalities.
• One of the member will have to describe the word , company , or the name of
the personality by giving the description.
• The other member will only have one chance to give the answer.
• For example:
She is a woman, member of Indian cricket team. She has hit 6 sixes on 6 balls.

8. Run-Time Paradox
This is a combination of fun-event as well as technical event. There can be individual participants, or a
team of maximum 3 participants. Round 1 will involve a mini-cricket match of an over (6 balls) for each
team. Each team will pick up a random chit, and be assigned a bowling team on the basis of the chit. The
team will be bowled an over, by the assigned team, and one member of each of the other teams (a fixed
no., say 5 such members), will field. The rules of the cricket match will be that no boundaries will be
allowed. The no. of runs scored by each team(say ‘n’), will be subtracted from 10, and the team will have
to code 10 minus ‘n’ no. of programs, from a given set of problems. The team, who finishes the whole
task in minimum time-frame, wins.

Code Runner
• This is a team event. A team of two members.
• This event will mainly take place in eighth block.
• One of the member from all the teams will be given random clues for a room
number, for example: double fat lady make two eggs for four, this is a clue for
9. room 8204.
• With different room numbers in hand they will search for the code hidden in the
room.
• Once they find all the bits of the code, they will give the code to the second
partner.
• The output of the code will give them another room number, this room will be
common to all, the team who is able to find it and code it will win the event.

Debanation
M-U-N is F-U-N! Model United Nations is an academic simulation of the United Nations where students
play the role of delegates from different countries and attempt to solve real world issues using the
policies and perspectives of their assigned country. For example, a student may be assigned the United
Kingdom and will have to solve global topics such as nuclear non-proliferation or climate change from
the policies and perspectives of the United Kingdom. In CSI-MUN, the agenda for the delegates will be
10. technical problems and issues of various assigned countries. There will be just one committee. The
committee will be led by a Chairperson and a vice-chairperson who will facilitate the discussion for the
committee. The committee will start with the Chairperson taking roll call. The best delegate will be
chosen at the end of the one day conference.

“High Commendation award-The delegate of Israel – Abhik ghosh”.
Byte-Code
1. It will be a 2 ½ hour event.
2. The event will be hosted on www.hackerearth.com
3. There will be a total of 5 questions.
4. The Participant to solve maximum number of questions in minimum time will win.

• There will be a team of two members.
• All the participants should present their innovative ideas.
• The event will consist of two rounds:
ROUND I: Abstract
ROUND II: Presentation
• The round I is abstract in which the participants have to submit the abstract of
their paper.
• The selected participants will then present their paper in front of the judges.

12. Innovative Minds
Innovative minds mainly aims to provide a dais to the students to showcase their talent and present
their hard work in order to compete and gain appreciation. The students can either present their old
projects or can even develop a new one. They are required to maintain a document along with their
innovative idea of project and can present the project as one or as a team of any number of students.
The event invites projects from various domains in order to make it a real success providing students
with an opportunity of learning more and brush up their technical skills.

13. Quizzaire
• This is an online event.
• It is a national level quiz.
• It has individual participation.
• There are 5 categories for the quiz, namely:

14. The Untold Story
This event is specially designed to bring out your creative side, to enhance the skills of a writer latent
within you. The event is simple yet interesting. Here, each individual is treated as a contestant since this
is not a team event. So, before the start of the competition, groups of 6 are made randomly (we can
alter the no. of individuals per group on the basis of crowd turnout) and each member of the group is
given an A4 size sheet, which is same for all the members of the same group. On that sheet, a word, a
phrase, a sentence or even name of the characters will be written, and within fifteen minutes, they will
have to write a micro story (in about hundred words), and so the best story writer amongst the group
proceeds forward.

15. I-Hack
• This is an online event.
• This is a coding event.
• The participants would be given codes and they have to debug them.
• The participant who complete maximum questions in less time wins the event.

Gamer Unveiled
Initially participants have to register their team of at most 6 and at least 4 members for the round 1 of
event which is totally based on virtual gaming in teams. In first round players have play Call Of Duty
(Modern Warfare) in form of their registered team against other team on server. The winning team will
proceed to next round and losing team will be knocked out. In second round participants have to
compete against each other irrespective of registered team and the names of the competing player will
16. be chosen by method of lucky draw so that fair opportunity is provide to all. Selected opponents have to
compete against each other in the virtual game FIFA 2014.There will be short match between both the
players, the player who scores 4 goals first will win or the one who scores more will win and will proceed
to next round and the losing player will be knocked out. And in third round, players would be asked to
play a surprise virtual game whose name will be disclosed in the gaming hall only. This surprise game
should be of one on one match type so that losing player will be knocked out and repeated knock out
rounds of that game will be held till we get our two finalists, which will compete for the tag of PRO
GAMER and exciting prices and there will be a separate match for 3rd position
CLOSING CEREMONY
YUGMAK 2016 turned to be a great success with over 21 events, workshops and seminar which had a
footfall of over 500 participants. The convention would not have been a success without the support of
our Associate Dean, Dr. Manish Prateek. Mr. Ajay Rawat then presented Dr. Manish Prateek with a
token of thanks expressing our gratitude. With this we proceeded to the prize distribution ceremony.
Mr. Rajat Sharma, the first president of UPES-CSI Student Chapter, concluded the ceremony by
encouraging and motivating the students to strive forward and take the chapter to new heights.
