Conclave on Marketing for Sustainability: Balancing Corporate Goals with Sustainability Held in UPES
The College of Management and Economic Studies in UPES Continues its saga of constructive deliberations over
some thought provoking and contemporary issues relevant in this day and age. A day long conclave was organized
in its Kandoli campus on one of the most discussed and sensitive challenges before the industry today – “The
Challenge of achieving growth while maintain environmental stability”. Some well-known dignitaries from the
Industry who spoke on innovative solutions needed by the industry for a sustainable ecosystem included Mr.
Harshawardhan Verma, a film producer and also an anchor of BBC Channel 4 & National Geographic; Mr. Ashok
Jugran, Director of Airline Solutions at WNS Global Service; Mr. Rahul Chandola, Vice –President of Royal Bank of
Scotland(RBS); Mr. Aditya Sharma, Vice-President of Strategic Communications, Cratuz Technology.
Addressing an auditorium jam packed with students and faculty members of the management school Mr
Harshwardhan focused on the environmental issues pertaining to the Himalayan region giving some glaring
examples of how some of the small rivers have vanished on account of unsustainable development and business
practices. Mr. Ashok Jugran focused his talk on the environment sustainability issues of the airline industry. He
spoke at length on the need to enhance emphasis on carbon emissions, carbon footprint and airline fuel
technologies. Speaking on the need to focus and adopt “Green Technology” Mr Rahul Chandola gave global
examples of some multinational companies who have shifted to solutions like paperless documentation. He gave
examples of how RBS and other corporates like ‘Google’ have initiated work from home models. Mr Aditya Sharma
emphasized on the role that digital platforms on social media can play to increase the awareness on these issues
moving forward.
Dr S J Chopra, Chancellor in his welcome address shared the vision of College of Management & Economic Studies
in UPES while also felicitating the dignitaries from the Industry. Present in the audience were Dr Shrihari, Vice
Chancellor, Dr Nikhil Kulshrestha, Assistant Dean; Dr Tarun Dhingra, Assistant Dean, Dr Atul Razdan, Associate
Dean and other faculty members. Delivering the vote of thanks Dr Shrihari thanked the organizing team ably led
by Dr Sunil Barthwal, Dr Ankur Kumar Rastogi & Dr Anita Sengar along with the student team comprising of
Thomas K Philip, Sangeetha, Kallepali Manidedep and Pooja Singh.
