SDR technology allows software to control radio functions like modulation, filtering, and frequency conversion. This document outlines how to use an SDR dongle and antenna to receive weather satellite images from NOAA satellites. The process involves downloading software, setting the antenna frequency to 137MHz, predicting satellite flyover times, and using the SDRSharp and WxtoImg programs to automatically record and decode satellite signals during flyovers into weather images. Popular low-cost SDR devices that can be used are the RTL-SDR, Funcube Dongle, and Universal Software Radio Peripheral.
