Literary Devices Used In Richard Connell s The Most...
1. Richard Connell uses multiple language devices to help make The Most Dangerous Game a better
story. Out of all the literary devices used in Connell s story, simile and foreshadowing are used most.
He uses simile to describe the setting to his story and the situation so the reader fully understands what
is happening in the story, especially if the part written before the simile could be confusing for a
reader not familiar with the setting. Connell uses foreshadowing throughout the story as a way of
keeping the reader interested and fully invested in the story. He also uses foreshadowing to an the
element of suspense to the story. One example of when Cornell uses simile in the story is when he
says There was no breeze. The

Odette Symbolism In Black Swan
Achieving perfection is not easy, and some may even say it is impossible. In 2010, Darren Aronofsky
s thought provoking film Black Swan was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best
Picture. The movie focuses on ballet dancer Nina as she lands the lead role in the New York Ballet
Company s Swan Lake. She has an obsession with becoming perfect and because of this, she slowly
slips into a state of madness and jealously of her understudy. The ballet of Swan Lake has many
interpretations, but the main story revolves around Odette the Swan Queen who has a cursed placed on
her by the evil Rothbart. In order to break the curse placed upon her, someone must fall in love with
her, but instead the Prince is tricked into falling in love with her ... Show more content on

The story of Swan Lake and Black Swan parallel, but when the movie does an actual performance of
the ballet, the aesthetic of ballet reflects the movie s themes overall. While the choreography remains
the same, the colors are much darker than a normal stage production would be. Since the film is a
thriller with a dark tone, the colors fit the mood better than the bright, cool colors of a normal stage
production. Even in the scenes with the White Swan, the color palette is somewhat more somber than
normal. The lighting has a red tent to it when Nina is dancing the White Swan. This could be a symbol
of even when she is most innocent, there is still darkness surrounding her. She also messes up during
that time as well so the red could also be adding to the fact that she is so far gone by the Black Swan
that she can no longer dance the White Swan. Also, the costuming of the antagonist, Rothbart, is much
more monster like and bulky than the original slim leotard that is easy to dance and move with. This is
to show how small Nina is compared to him, and that the darkness that is inside of her can overcome
her. He is not shown much throughout the film, but when he does he seems to blend in as compared to
Nina s overall psychological turmoil. Finally, the Black Swan appearance is much more sinister that
the ballet version, with its dark wings and red eyes. The audience only sees

The Rate Of Diffusion Process
As an organism increases in its size the surface region to volume ratio decreases over a pobtainable
eriod of time. This implies that the living being has a moderately less surface area which allows
substances to diffuse through the organism, so the rate of diffusion might not be as fast to meet the
prerequisites of a living being. Large multicellular organisms for that reason cannot definitely depend
on the diffusion process alone in order for it to source their cells with such substances for example,
sustenance and oxygen and to remove waste products. Large multicellular organisms require particualr
transport systems as they are certain in its function. The smaller the organism the larger the surface
area volume ratio, this provides ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, unicellular organism is single celled organisms that can only be dependent on diffusion to
move substances in and out of the cells. Whereas its surface area is fairly large compared to the
volume of the organism, this means that the nutrients and other substances can easily go through the
cell membrane and around its body . Smaller cells have a substantial surface area compared to cell
volume, while larger cells have a diminished proportionof surface area to volume. This is the reason
why bacterial cells are so small is that they need a large surface area to cell volume to take in
nutrients. Microbes collect nutrients from the environment by diffusion. Single celled organisms such
as Euglena, does not need a specialised area to carry out gaseous exchange because they have large
surface area to volume ratio (SA:Vol), so the demand for the gases such as O2 and CO2 is low and the
body surface area SA enough to meet needs by diffusion. In a large organism diffusion is a net
movement of particles from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration. It is a
passive process and it doesn t require energy, whereas Osmosis is the movement of water molecules
across a partially permeable membrane from an area of higher water potential to an area of lower
water potential. It is a passive process and it doesn t require energy. Large, active organisms have
higher demand for oxygen and removal of waste products such as CO2. They also have small surface

Elisa Allen In John Steinbeck s The Chrysanthemums
Elisa Allen, of The Chrysanthemums, had an emptiness within herself that she could never expose to
the world; instead she kept it in until she no longer could. She ends up revealing her shadow to a
stranger who gave her the desire she wanted. Elisa had a dream that she does not realize at first, but
begins to realize it when the opportunity was in front of her. Her husband, who does not share the
same interest as her with her garden, would only verbally support her interest when it came that he can
see and receive profit from it. Her dream is to have a husband that shows interest in her biggest hobby
that is gardening. Although she seems happy with her current husband Henry, she never realized how
much she loves it when they talk about her gardening, even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

there, her hand went out toward his legs in the greasy black trousers. Her hesitant fingers almost
touched the cloth (Steinbeck 18). The man then realized what she was doing, but did not react; instead
he acted as professional as well as he could. After his departure, she then felt a depression knowing
that she might have lost her one chance of happiness. As her husband is taking her out to dinner later
on in the night, she asks Henry questions about his hobbies of watching fights and realized that she
never had anyone as interested of her gardening skills as much as the departed man did. She felt that at
this moment, her dream was then put on hold once more, so her shadow of loneliness and emptiness
took over. Her shadow was revealed towards the man who gave the attention she wanted from her
husband. She no longer hid or neglect her shadows because she realize what made her happy and went

The Issue Towards Education And Education Reforms Needs...
The issue towards education and education reforms needs peoples awareness needs to increase
because of how important this issue is. The educational system is corrupt because people are required
to pay thousands of dollars or take out loans that are putting them in debts for years which is absurd.
Students from all over the nation forced to take out loans that put them in debt for most of their life.
Low income students also do not have many options for education and cannot afford one. The cost of
education will keep on getting higher and higher as time progresses and the next president and
congress of the democratic party needs to focus on this problem for students that are in college and for
the ones who will be in the future. The education issue is one of the biggest challenges that the United
States are facing today and needs to be fixed by lowering tuition, more options for low income
students, and create more teaching jobs. Both political parties have different views on education and
only one has the right mind to fixing the educational issue. On the website feelthebern.org,
republicanviews.org, and college.usatoday.com states different ways on how the democratic party will
fix the educational system by reforming college tuitions, financial aid, student loans, and for students
who come from a low income family.
On the website, feelthebern.org and college.usatoday.com, Senator Sanders believes that students who
are willing to go to college should be denied based on

The Rhetorical Analysis Of Martin Luther King Jr.
On April 3rd, 1968 in Memphis,Tennessee at the Mason Temple many protesters came together to
hear Martin Luther King Jr s speech. His purpose was to get his point across, blacks should have their
freedom like any other white man or woman. Martin Luther King Jr. went on to say how happy he is
to be living in this time period, able to see the period of life unfold. His purpose was to raise
awareness that, something is happening in the world, things are going to start changing. Martin Luther
King Jr s use of ethos and pathos is successful in showing that the world is changing in many ways.
Most of all he uses logos or logic very well, giving us the info on how, people are starting to rise up in
masses and make small cities bigger like New York City, Atlanta, Georgia and many other cities.
Early in the speech Martin Luther King Jr demonstrates logos. He clearly states, many logical
examples,he starts by imaging himself in different centuries going back to different areas like Mount
Olympus, where he would see Plato, Aristotle, Socrates, Euripides and Aristophanes where he would
watch them gather around to discuss real issues. First he went on to say that he would go to the Roman
Empire to see the development of leaders and emperors. Second he d go on to the Renaissance to see
the what this time period did for the cultural and aesthetic life of man. Then would go on to see the
men tack on the ninety five theses onto the church of Wittenberg. But then he wouldn t stop there, he
would go on to 1863 to see President Abraham Lincoln to sign the Emancipation Proclamation. He
said lastly he would go on to see the early thirties to see a man grappling on bankruptcy. As he goes on
he uses the quote we have nothing to fear but fear itself . He uses logos really well on a showing that
the nation is sick and trouble is in the land and confusion all around. He quotes But I know, somehow,
that only when it is dark enough can you see the stars. And I see God working in this period of the
twentieth century in a way that men, in some . strange way, are responding. which takes him back to
saying that the world is changing in every which way. Later in the speech he strongly demonstrates
pathos. He explains how men have been

My Education
I am grateful to my parents because they made me understand that my education is the most valuable
thing I could ever have. My parents sacrificed many things for us to have a better life, and I won t let
them down. I was born in Zinapecuaro Michoacan, when I was seven years old I came to Salinas
California with all my family. I remembered when I was a child my dad used to come every year to
work on the fields. Then, he would go back each year for a short period of time, and I was waiting for
him with happiness. As I grew up I realized that my parents wanted me to have a better life which they
never had. Because my parents worked all day to bring food to our table, my brothers and I didn t
spent too much time with them like we would like. My childhood was not easy at all, but I had the
most amazing parents. Also, having their love made the happiest girl in world because that was
enough for me.
When I was a little girl I dreamed to be a doctor, but I changed my mind. Since high school I wanted
to join the military, but I could not because of my weight. So, in my second semester during college; I
decided to join the army to have a professional career and at the same time took a break for college.
For all my experiences that have happened to me; I can only say that joining the Army was the best
decision I have taken. In addition, I learned to live by the army values which are loyalty, duty, respect,
selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage. These values helped me

Wood Thrush Populations
The paper explicitly outlined the four key questions, asking (1) Is there evidence that asymmetrical
dispersal and therefore source sink dynamics occur consistently over time between pairs of Wood
Thrush populations? And if so (2), over what distance(s) does this occur? (3) Do identified sources
occur in areas with more habitat than their dependent sinks? And (4), are source sink dynamics
clustered in any particular part of the species range? (Tittler, Fahrig Villard 2006, p. 2)
Identifying key words, in this case posit , helps identify the hypothesis quickly.
We posit that, when dispersal occurs from a source to a sink year after year, there will be a one year
time lagged correlation in abundance between the two populations
(Tittler, Fahrig Villard 2006, p. 1).
The authors often restate their hypothesis multiple times to clarify to readers the intent of their
research. In other words, a decline in abundance in the source population in one year will result in a
decline in the sink population in the following year, as a smaller source population produces fewer

Ledan Research Paper
Ledan (currently going by the alias of Ledan Leda Hale) is an archangel/human hybrid, sometimes
known as an Archnephilim (a phrase coined by Dean) and a witch, known or at least believed to be
one of the only ones of his kind, maybe even the olnly one. He uses his witchcraft to perform spells on
demand, occasionally for money but usually he ll do it for an nondescript favour (which you ll be
bound to) that can be called in at any time. He was born in 339BC, in early Iron Age Sweden, and
grew up believing, in his early years, he was an average human. However, he is the son of the
archangel Jophiel (who died when he was two) and a powerful witch called ThyrvĂŻ; making him very

beginning they were relatively harmless. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

North had were they had more train tracks and they had more people in the North than the South did.
The train tracks were important and that helped the North by transport the soldiers to the South instead
making the soldiers walk and make them get tired. The North had more people that means you have a

Effect Of Natural Forces On Sister Carrie
The Effect of Natural Forces on the Characters in Sister Carrie
In the novel, Sister Carrie, many characters believe that they have the ability to pave the pathway
toward their future. However, they don t realize that few of these actions are determined by them.
They are clueless as to how little a choice they have in making their decision, because of the natural
forces that impact them. Forces such as societal pressure, luck, and their level of sophistication impact
their state of mind, causing them to pursue a different pathway. These forces cause Hurstwood and
Carrie to purse an option that they would not normally pursue. Hurstwood and Carrie believe that they
have more control over their lives then they actually do. However, it appears that their varying degrees
of self determination is less than they assume because of forces, such as level of sophistication, luck,
and societal pressure that play a profound role in dictating their decisions.
What appears to be human choice is influenced by the character s subjectivity and recklessness
towards their situation, depending on their age. Dreiser only reveals to the reader that Carrie is from
Wisconsin; however, he fails to inform the reader anymore about her past or experiences that she has
had. This leads one to believe that Carrie is experiencing these events for the first time, making her
vulnerable to the deception others display, until she learns to use deception and trickery for personal
gain (Prizer 577). She begins to

English is the most broadly spoken language worldwide. However, there are many non English
speaking countries in the Americas and the Caribbean. Haiti is one of the non English speaking
Caribbean countries. Their way of life of a group of people developed over time and passed down
from generation to generation. The Republic of Haiti is located in the Caribbean Sea, between Cuba
and Puerto Rico. It is a tropical country with an average temperature of 80 degrees Fahrenheit. The
capital of Haiti is Port au Prince and its official languages are French and Creole. It would be
impossible to cover every aspect of Haitian culture in a short cultural paper. We have therefore, chosen
to take a values approach to discuss power, prestige, filial responsibility, modernization, status and
roles of older adults in that culture.
Power
Family power is significant to understand how families functions as a unit. It helps the family to make
important decisions about how to manage their lives, whether it financially, about where to live,
educational choices, or even about leisure time, and so on. In Haiti, women play a major role in the
culture. They referred to them as the Central Pillar They endure most of the burden of childcare,

The Houston Equal Rights Ordinance
Introduction
HERO, the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance, according to the City of Houston Equal Rights
Ordinance (2014), covers nondiscrimination against sex, race, color, ethnicity, national origin, age,
familial status, marital status, military status, religion, disability, sexual orientation, genetic
information, gender identity, and pregnancy. The ordinance lists sections of protection within city
services and employment, contracting with the city, public accommodations, private employment, and
housing (Exh A, 2014). (Ord. No. 2014 530, § 2(Exh A), 5 28 2014)
Although the ordinance protects several classes of people within five separate categories, the
ordinance became the policy in favor of men in women s bathrooms. With a lot of attention on
transgender people within the last year alone, the media was able to manipulate public perception by
focusing on one aspect of the ordinance. Many Houstonians, still weary of the LGBTQ community
and ill informed, were fully against the ordinance, claiming to defend their women and children
against predators. Voters believed the ordinance created an open door for sex crime to increase in the
city. Consequently, the ordinance failed to pass with a 60% opposing vote. The ordinance for equality
should have passed, however, Houstonians focused only on their false perceptions and myths of sexual
predators, such as strangers and queers.

Pros And Cons Of Currency War
The phrase Currency War was used to describe the efforts of nations to devalue their own currencies,
in order to increase their competitiveness of export in the international market. In the context of the
reading, major players in the currency war from 2010 to 2013 included the U.S., European countries,
China, Switzerland, and Japan, each using different ways in devaluing the domestic currency: the US
printed a lot of money via quantitative easing (QE) ; China controlled capital inflows through
accumulating foreign currency reserve and undervaluing renminbi; Switzerland prohibited the franc to
appreciate further against the euro; and Japan announced the unlimited purchasing of government
bonds which increases money supply to counter economic downturn. Opponents contended that policy
decisions such as QE are beggar they neighbor actions while they eased domestic economic downturn
in the developed countries alone, the price of such behavior was to be shifted to the international
market and particularly, the emerging markets. Firstly, currency wars might lead to increased forms of

Analysis Of Truman Capote s Cold Blood
Imagine two people, both the same race, both the same gender, and they both committed the same
crime. The two people are on trial for their crime, but instead of getting the same punishment, one gets
the death penalty while the other gets 15 years. To think that the outcome should be the same, however
there are more than one factors that play into a person receiving the death penalty and they are not
always considered fair. In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, displays a situation where Perry Smith

Dr. Jones also discussed about Perry s inability to receive an education. Perry uses a wide range of
vocabulary that displays his high intelligence. Although he is above ordinary, he was never able to get
proper education. As Perry expresses, the man I could have been! But that bastard never gave me a
chance. He wouldn t let me go to school....But no education, because he didn t want me to learn

(Capote 115) Perry voices his anger for not being able to get an education and resentment towards his
father for not giving him an opportunity to get education. He also spiteful towards his siblings who
were able to receive some sort of education. Perry held the hatred against his father and everyone, all
his life. Fundamentally, he became angry which resulted in him making decisions, out of rage, that he
later regrets, like the murder of the Clutter family. Dr. Jones, in his evaluation, describes Perry s anger

Argumentative Essay On The Book Night
Some might argue that there is no reason to retell such horrors that took place during the Holocaust to
children, or that the Holocaust did not take place, so what is the point in teaching it? The Holocaust
did in fact happen, and it happened not long ago. Some people can not see this as fathomable, but it is
possible that if we do not tell posterity of these horrors, they could very well happen again. The book
Night written by Elie Wiesel paints a dark and very real depiction of the Holocaust. It recounts the
time the author spent in Auschwitz and how the experience affected him. There are a number of
reasons why the Holocaust should be studied in schools, including how recently the Holocaust took

would be not only dangerous but offensive; to forget the dead would be akin to killing them a second

Eli Wiesel wrote this during the introduction of Night. He said this to emphasize the importance of
writing about the Holocaust for the sake of the victims. Elie Wiesel was freed at the end of the
Holocaust in 1945 (106) which was only 71 years ago. (page 106) The majority of the victims have
passed on, but there still remains some who can give a recount of what they experienced. This
opportunity will become unattainable soon, but there is still a chance to sit down with a victim and
hear their story. We owe it to the victims of the Holocaust to retell their accounts and make sure that
their stories aren t left behind in history. Also because this happened so recently it brings into
perspective how possible it is for it to happen again. There are people out there capable of committing
mass genocide, and even wiping out an entire group of people for whatever reason. It is essential that
posterity know this and prevent it from occurring. If the book Night is taught in school, it shows
students that atrocities like this should not be left on the wayside, and there is no reason for this to
ever happen

Essay on There is More to Vikings than Violence
History typically describes the Vikings as the fiercest, most brutal of all the barbarian groups that
invaded Europe. Historians agree that the Vikings were fierce, but was there more to them than that.
The word Viking has been used to identify people who lived in Sweden, Norway and Denmark in
early medieval times. In the language Old Norse, Viking means pirate. Sometimes they were known as
Northmen or Danes. The Vikings shared a similar heritage as the Saxons, a group of people who had
previously invaded Britain.
The Vikings sailed to other foreign countries because they weren t able to do many profitable things in
their own homes. The soil was infertile, and the land was rocky and covered in ice and snow for most

Odin was the ?All father? of all the gods and was extremely wise. He exchanged one of his eyes for
wisdom. Other gods and goddesses included Loki (the trickster god), Freyja (goddess of love and
beauty) and Frey (god of fertility and Freyja?s brother).
England, Scotland and Wales were Christian countries, and when the Vikings resettled there, many of
them converted to Christianity. However, some remained faithful to their old religion at the same time.
This shows that the Vikings weren?t just killing machines that spent all their time murdering people
and raiding villages. They didn?t just think of war all the time and they actually spent time
worshipping gods like we still do today.
In addition, we can see that their culture was important, even down to the clothes they wore. Like
most people during that time, the Vikings mostly used wool to make their clothes. They had to dress
warmly because their home was very cold. They dyed the cloth with mineral and vegetable dyes of
red, green, yellow, brown and blue.
Viking men would wear a long woollen shirt and long cloth pants held up by a drawstring or sash. On
top of this was worn a sleeved jerkin or a three quarter coat with a belt. On their feet they would wear
socks and soft leather shoes or long leather boots. In battle, the Vikings would wear an iron helmet and
chain mail to protect themselves.

Comparing Henry V And St. Joan Of Arc
Henry and Joan During the scenes of Henry V and St. Joan of Arc, it is noticed that there are certain
expectations that are expected of each Joan and Henry. Each of these individuals are expected of
different things based on their genders. Joan shows that being just a girl doesn t have to determine
what you do and Henry makes it known that if you do certain things that you believe in, that you are
still a man and shouldn t listen to what other have to say and to prove them wrong. This is where both
people have similarities and differences when it comes to their gender roles. For King Henry V, he is
doubted sometimes that he is not a true man and that since he is a king he should act like one. Henry
shows and tells that when he is having a conversation with his men about being a good king and man.
He said Though it s not my place to say so, I think the king is, after all, only a man, the same as me.
The violet smells to him the same as it does to me. The sky appears to him much as it does to me, and
all his senses are those of a mortal man. Without his fine clothes, the king appears just like any other
naked man. And though his feelings may be pitched higher than ours, when they plummet, they
plummet that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Henry and Joan seem to have similarities and differences when it comes to their situations but both of
them make it known that your gender should not define certain traits or certains things that you can

and other people s opinions do not define who you are or stop you from what your goals. But in
conclusion these are a few examples of the gender related experiences both Henry and Joan had to go

Janet Jackson has been away from the limelight since getting married and, most recently, giving birth

We re in the second leg of the tour and there actually has been a sudden change. I thought it was

Examples of Machiavellian Leaders
Arguably, the most Machiavellian leader to ever exist would be Joseph Stalin. He abided by three
major Machiavellian methods that were stated in the Prince: the ends justifies the means, crush any
opposition, and displaying a false character. Stalin had a plan for Russia and did everything in his
power to achieve that plan. He wanted to transform Russia into a industrial superpower, a military
superpower, and a political superpower. To achieve his goals he committed many horrible crimes
against humanity. To be more specific, Stalin killed more than sixty million people during his reign.
He was a selfish cold blooded, heart less, and evil leader; human life was nothing to him. What caused
him to develop such evil traits? It all started ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This strategy disposed Stalin of any political opposition, which helped him sustain his power. Another
major method that Stalin used to maintain his power was the use of propaganda to portray himself as a
benevolent father figure. While at the same time he was committing mass murder. In Ukraine alone he
killed ten million people in only two years! Many historians agree that Stalin killed over sixty million
people. Why did he kill so much people? This can be traced back to Machiavelli s The Prince. As
discussed before, The Prince teaches that a ruler should have the fear of the people. Stalin slaughtered
so many people to prevent any opposition to his reign. He eliminated all the strong people, both the
intellectual and physical; therefore the few left would be too afraid and too weak, physically and
mentally, to resist. Stalin did exactly what Machiavelli stated in the Prince, which was also stated
above, And here it has to be noted that men must be either pampered or crushed, because they can get
revenge fore small injuries but not fore grievous ones. Stalin stated Death is the solution to all
problems. No man no problem. , Gratitude is a sickness suffered by dogs. , and I trust no one, not even
myself. As it can be clearly seen, Joseph Stalin epitomises most of Machiavelli s beliefs that are stated
in The Prince. Therefore, Stalin can be consider Machiavelli s ideal prince. Finally, the last example of

Aryan Imperialism
Hitler had special plans for Denmark. He regarded Denmark as a fellow Aryan nation that shared its
Nordic roots with Germany. According to Nazi ideology s scale of racial standing, the Aryan race
represented by the German elite was superior. The Nordic race was a close second and the most
authoritative dogmatists [including Alfred Rosenberg and Joseph Goebbels] of the Nazi creed have
repeatedly pointed to Scandinavia as the true home of the glorious Nordic race. In addition, Hitler also
believed specifically that the peninsula that makes up the majority of Denmark, the Jutland, was
mythically the ancestral home of the Nordic race. Denmark would therefore not be treated like another
conquered country but as an ally. Instead, it would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In response, Hitler received a telegram that simply said, MY UTMOST THANKS, CHRISTIAN REX.
Although the actual German text ( SPRECHE MEINEN BESTEN DANK AUS ) was no different than
his replies from previous years, Hitler went into a rage. With the encouragement of some of his
advisors in Berlin, Hitler adopted the idea that Denmark had become too defiant and uncooperative in
its role as a protectorate. According to several German officials, such as Gestapo senior official Rudolf
Mildner, And ever since then Hitler hated Denmark. Ribbentrop ordered Renthe Fink to deliver a
message of protest to the Danish government on September 29 and recalled him immediately back to
Berlin. The Danish envoy stationed in Berlin was also requested to return to Copenhagen. The cordial

There is a need to emphasise on promoting Snapdeal as a brand to improve customer loyalty. In the
age of predatory pricing and heavy discounts, there is little or no differentiation on the pricing or on
the product differentiation side.
So, it becomes vital to promote Snapdeal as a wholesome brand which people would like to relate
themselves with. Hence, it is time we start portraying it as a well rounded company. Here are a few

Perception Of Cultures In The Plague By Albert Camus
Perception of cultures is boundless and the conceptions of cultures are solely encompassed in the eyes
of those who behold them. Many construe cultures as being categorized by their basic views of
religion, disposal of the dead, hygiene, medical treatment, social interactions, and gender roles, while
others believe cultures are defined antagonistically. Though ideas of what embody a culture differ, the
creed that culture is diverse and varies internationally through location is comprehensive. A culture s
importance can often times be overlooked, and the Algerian culture is one of these recurrently omitted
cultures. Algeria is an Arabic and French speaking, North African country bordering the
Mediterranean Sea with several cities of European influence. The country is one of contrast and
contradiction through its culture, through things such as language spoken, traditions or beliefs
practiced. The culture is heavily influenced by religion with over 99 percent of the population being
Sunni Muslims. Algeria is a country of both traditional and modern Muslim cultures. There are often
prevalent clashing cultural attributes that are both widely practiced within Algeria. This idea of
cultural contrast can be seen in The Plague, written by the influential philosopher, Albert Camus. This
philosophical fiction is set in the French Algerian port city of Oran, sometime in the 1940s, and hosts
many cultural aspects that contrast those that are widely practiced in Algeria. The novel

The Importance Of Effective Communication Skills
I have developed my effective communication skills over the past few years whilst working both my
current jobs; Vue Cinema and Sainsbury s, whilst studying Law at Leeds Beckett University. In order
to effectively communicate with others I believe it is essential to listen to, not just hear people s views.
This includes what words have been spoken, but also how they have been spoken, taking note both the
person s body language and tone of voice.
An example of when I have utilised this skill is when I notice customers struggling with their packing
at Sainsbury s and I volunteer to help them, even if I am currently not serving them. Customers often
do not ask for help, but I assess the situation through a customer s body language and facial
expressions to determine whether to help. Packing, even though a seemingly small task, involves
constant effective communication, this allows myself to understand the customer s requirements and
needs as to how and what should be packed. Effective communication builds a colleague customer
relationship, in result creating a trust between them and the company.
Effective communication also involves being aware of others emotions i.e. being sympathetic to other
people s misfortune and using empathy to put yourself in the other persons shoes . I use first names
where appropriate, this helps to build a relationship with the person I am talking to, making them my
equal. Effective communication involves good eye contact, I make and maintain eye

Analysis of the Coronation of Napoleon
The Coronation that Shook the World The Coronation of Napoleon by Jacques Louis David is
imposing in its dimensions. It stands at twenty feet by thirty feet and is displayed in the main gallery
of the Louvre museum in Paris. David began this work of art after being orally commissioned by
Napoleon in September of 1804. The painting came to its completion November of 1807. The sole fact
that the painting took three years to complete demonstrates something about the magnitude and scale
of the painting. This was all done on purpose of course in order to record this significant moment in
the emperor s life.

Writing Style Analysis Essay
Introduction Understanding the various modes and methods of writing is important in academic
writing. The following essay will describe, examine, and analyze the methods of three peer reviewed
journal articles from the International Journal of Work, Health, Organizations, specifically addressing
work and stress.
Describe Journal Writing Style The publications within the journal selected show a specific writing
style throughout all the articles selected. The writing style that was presented in these articles was a
formal style of writing. A formal style of writing can be classified as academic writing that presents a
certain structure that is to be followed. For instance, these articles presented an abstract to provide an
overview to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The structure of the publication of these journal articles is presented on three levels. First, the authors
present the background information on the topic to gain an understanding of the topic. Secondly, the
authors present their ideas by conducting a study on the topic selected. The studies presented are
topics that are occasionally discussed or researched so the authors of this journal shed light on these
areas. The final level of structure that the authors present is a discussion and conclusion of their
results. This final level of the articles presents ways for the intended audience to incorporate the
findings in their practice or encourage the audience to pursue further research within the topic. For
example, Deligkaris, Panagopoulou, Montgomery, and Masoura (2014), present in their conclusion
how there are limited studies on burnout in correlation with cognitive impairment and introduce ideas
for future research. In addition, the articles provided practical implications for management to use
within high stress work environments to support their employees (Pindek Spector, 2016; Michailidis
Banks, 2016).
Analyze Journal Writing connection to Student Writing The writing presented in the journal articles
showe one strong connection to the writings I submit within the classrooms of Capella University. The
major connection is the use of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association
(APA) is used. Using APA provides the overall structure of an author s writing. These articles used
headings, references, and citations throughout their work. I use these three elements consistently,
because it allows my work to be organized and my ideas supported based on other journals related to
the same topic.

Quixote And The Insanity In Man Of La Mancha
quot;Man of La Mancha quot; is the story of Alonso Quijana, a poor gentleman from
Spain. He has read so many of the exaggerated romances of chivalry that he
finally believes them to be his reality and sets forth as Don Quixote, a
knight errant on his old horse seeking many misadventures. And while this
insanity may be an object of distress for others, Quixote s madness is
comforting to himself.
And all he reads oppresses him . . . fills him with indignation at man s
murderous ways toward man. He broods . . . and broods . . . and broods and
finally from so much brooding his brains dry up! He lays down the melancholy
burden of sanity and conceives the strangest project ever imagined . . . to

After defeating the muleteers, he insists
upon helping them recover, saying, quot;I must raise them up and minister to
their wounds . . . Nobility demands. quot; In the world Quixote has left, his
enemies would be left to rot, but in his own reality, he is doing the only
right thing by tending to the injuries. This way comforting himself by
correcting the wrongs of quot;mans murderous ways toward man. quot;
Despite his noble deeds, Quixote is still looked upon as a crazy old man
by those around him. As Senor Carrasco tries to convince Quixote of who he
really is, Don continues to deny the real world and live in his dream, saying
quot;so learned, yet so misinformed . . . facts are the enemy of truth. quot;
Confronted with reality, the lunacy prevails because in his imaginary world,
all is right and the pain he knew before was gone.
Behind all the events of Quixote s misadventures and insanity, is a basic
premise that is best expressed by the words of Cervantes:
I have lived nearly fifty years and I have seen life as it is. Pain, misery,
hunger. . . cruelty beyond belief. I have heard the singing from taverns and
the moans of bundles of filth on the streets. I have been a soldier and seen
my comrades fall in battle . . . or die more slowly under the lash in Africa.
I have held them in my arms at the final moment. These were men who saw
life as it is, yet they

  • 2. Literary Devices Used In Richard Connell s The Most... 1. Richard Connell uses multiple language devices to help make The Most Dangerous Game a better story. Out of all the literary devices used in Connell s story, simile and foreshadowing are used most. He uses simile to describe the setting to his story and the situation so the reader fully understands what is happening in the story, especially if the part written before the simile could be confusing for a reader not familiar with the setting. Connell uses foreshadowing throughout the story as a way of keeping the reader interested and fully invested in the story. He also uses foreshadowing to an the element of suspense to the story. One example of when Cornell uses simile in the story is when he says There was no breeze. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Odette Symbolism In Black Swan Achieving perfection is not easy, and some may even say it is impossible. In 2010, Darren Aronofsky s thought provoking film Black Swan was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture. The movie focuses on ballet dancer Nina as she lands the lead role in the New York Ballet Company s Swan Lake. She has an obsession with becoming perfect and because of this, she slowly slips into a state of madness and jealously of her understudy. The ballet of Swan Lake has many interpretations, but the main story revolves around Odette the Swan Queen who has a cursed placed on her by the evil Rothbart. In order to break the curse placed upon her, someone must fall in love with her, but instead the Prince is tricked into falling in love with her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The story of Swan Lake and Black Swan parallel, but when the movie does an actual performance of the ballet, the aesthetic of ballet reflects the movie s themes overall. While the choreography remains the same, the colors are much darker than a normal stage production would be. Since the film is a thriller with a dark tone, the colors fit the mood better than the bright, cool colors of a normal stage production. Even in the scenes with the White Swan, the color palette is somewhat more somber than normal. The lighting has a red tent to it when Nina is dancing the White Swan. This could be a symbol of even when she is most innocent, there is still darkness surrounding her. She also messes up during that time as well so the red could also be adding to the fact that she is so far gone by the Black Swan that she can no longer dance the White Swan. Also, the costuming of the antagonist, Rothbart, is much more monster like and bulky than the original slim leotard that is easy to dance and move with. This is to show how small Nina is compared to him, and that the darkness that is inside of her can overcome her. He is not shown much throughout the film, but when he does he seems to blend in as compared to Nina s overall psychological turmoil. Finally, the Black Swan appearance is much more sinister that the ballet version, with its dark wings and red eyes. The audience only sees ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Rate Of Diffusion Process As an organism increases in its size the surface region to volume ratio decreases over a pobtainable eriod of time. This implies that the living being has a moderately less surface area which allows substances to diffuse through the organism, so the rate of diffusion might not be as fast to meet the prerequisites of a living being. Large multicellular organisms for that reason cannot definitely depend on the diffusion process alone in order for it to source their cells with such substances for example, sustenance and oxygen and to remove waste products. Large multicellular organisms require particualr transport systems as they are certain in its function. The smaller the organism the larger the surface area volume ratio, this provides ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, unicellular organism is single celled organisms that can only be dependent on diffusion to move substances in and out of the cells. Whereas its surface area is fairly large compared to the volume of the organism, this means that the nutrients and other substances can easily go through the cell membrane and around its body . Smaller cells have a substantial surface area compared to cell volume, while larger cells have a diminished proportionof surface area to volume. This is the reason why bacterial cells are so small is that they need a large surface area to cell volume to take in nutrients. Microbes collect nutrients from the environment by diffusion. Single celled organisms such as Euglena, does not need a specialised area to carry out gaseous exchange because they have large surface area to volume ratio (SA:Vol), so the demand for the gases such as O2 and CO2 is low and the body surface area SA enough to meet needs by diffusion. In a large organism diffusion is a net movement of particles from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration. It is a passive process and it doesn t require energy, whereas Osmosis is the movement of water molecules across a partially permeable membrane from an area of higher water potential to an area of lower water potential. It is a passive process and it doesn t require energy. Large, active organisms have higher demand for oxygen and removal of waste products such as CO2. They also have small surface area ... Elisa Allen In John Steinbeck s The Chrysanthemums Elisa Allen, of The Chrysanthemums, had an emptiness within herself that she could never expose to the world; instead she kept it in until she no longer could. She ends up revealing her shadow to a stranger who gave her the desire she wanted. Elisa had a dream that she does not realize at first, but begins to realize it when the opportunity was in front of her. Her husband, who does not share the same interest as her with her garden, would only verbally support her interest when it came that he can see and receive profit from it. Being interested in the stranger, Her breast swelled passionately [...] Kneeling there, her hand went out toward his legs in the greasy black trousers. Her hesitant fingers almost touched the cloth (Steinbeck 18). The man then realized what she was doing, but did not react; instead he acted as professional as well as he could. After his departure, she then felt a depression knowing that she might have lost her one chance of happiness. As her husband is taking her out to dinner later on in the night, she asks Henry questions about his hobbies of watching fights and realized that she never had anyone as interested of her gardening skills as much as the departed man did. She felt that at this moment, her dream was then put on hold once more, so her shadow of loneliness and emptiness took over. • 6. The Issue Towards Education And Education Reforms Needs... The issue towards education and education reforms needs peoples awareness needs to increase because of how important this issue is. The educational system is corrupt because people are required to pay thousands of dollars or take out loans that are putting them in debts for years which is absurd. Students from all over the nation forced to take out loans that put them in debt for most of their life. Low income students also do not have many options for education and cannot afford one. The cost of education will keep on getting higher and higher as time progresses and the next president and congress of the democratic party needs to focus on this problem for students that are in college and for the ones who will be in the future. The education issue is one of the biggest challenges that the United States are facing today and needs to be fixed by lowering tuition, more options for low income students, and create more teaching jobs. Both political parties have different views on education and only one has the right mind to fixing the educational issue. On the website feelthebern.org, republicanviews.org, and college.usatoday.com states different ways on how the democratic party will fix the educational system by reforming college tuitions, financial aid, student loans, and for students who come from a low income family. • 7. The Rhetorical Analysis Of Martin Luther King Jr. On April 3rd, 1968 in Memphis,Tennessee at the Mason Temple many protesters came together to hear Martin Luther King Jr s speech. His purpose was to get his point across, blacks should have their freedom like any other white man or woman. Martin Luther King Jr. went on to say how happy he is to be living in this time period, able to see the period of life unfold. His purpose was to raise awareness that, something is happening in the world, things are going to start changing. Martin Luther King Jr s use of ethos and pathos is successful in showing that the world is changing in many ways. Most of all he uses logos or logic very well, giving us the info on how, people are starting to rise up in masses and make small cities bigger like New York City, Atlanta, Georgia and many other cities. Early in the speech Martin Luther King Jr demonstrates logos. He clearly states, many logical examples,he starts by imaging himself in different centuries going back to different areas like Mount Olympus, where he would see Plato, Aristotle, Socrates, Euripides and Aristophanes where he would watch them gather around to discuss real issues. First he went on to say that he would go to the Roman Empire to see the development of leaders and emperors. Second he d go on to the Renaissance to see the what this time period did for the cultural and aesthetic life of man. Then would go on to see the men tack on the ninety five theses onto the church of Wittenberg. But then he wouldn t stop there, he would go on to 1863 to see President Abraham Lincoln to sign the Emancipation Proclamation. He said lastly he would go on to see the early thirties to see a man grappling on bankruptcy. As he goes on he uses the quote we have nothing to fear but fear itself . He uses logos really well on a showing that the nation is sick and trouble is in the land and confusion all around. He quotes But I know, somehow, that only when it is dark enough can you see the stars. And I see God working in this period of the twentieth century in a way that men, in some . strange way, are responding. which takes him back to saying that the world is changing in every which way. • 8. My Education I am grateful to my parents because they made me understand that my education is the most valuable thing I could ever have. My parents sacrificed many things for us to have a better life, and I won t let them down. I was born in Zinapecuaro Michoacan, when I was seven years old I came to Salinas California with all my family. I remembered when I was a child my dad used to come every year to work on the fields. Then, he would go back each year for a short period of time, and I was waiting for him with happiness. As I grew up I realized that my parents wanted me to have a better life which they never had. Because my parents worked all day to bring food to our table, my brothers and I didn t spent too much time with them like we would like. My childhood was not easy at all, but I had the most amazing parents. Also, having their love made the happiest girl in world because that was enough for me. When I was a little girl I dreamed to be a doctor, but I changed my mind. Since high school I wanted to join the military, but I could not because of my weight. So, in my second semester during college; I decided to join the army to have a professional career and at the same time took a break for college. For all my experiences that have happened to me; I can only say that joining the Army was the best decision I have taken. In addition, I learned to live by the army values which are loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage. These values helped me ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Wood Thrush Populations The paper explicitly outlined the four key questions, asking (1) Is there evidence that asymmetrical dispersal and therefore source sink dynamics occur consistently over time between pairs of Wood Thrush populations? And if so (2), over what distance(s) does this occur? (3) Do identified sources occur in areas with more habitat than their dependent sinks? And (4), are source sink dynamics clustered in any particular part of the species range? (Tittler, Fahrig Villard 2006, p. 2) Identifying key words, in this case posit , helps identify the hypothesis quickly. We posit that, when dispersal occurs from a source to a sink year after year, there will be a one year time lagged correlation in abundance between the two populations (Tittler, Fahrig Villard 2006, p. 1). The authors often restate their hypothesis multiple times to clarify to readers the intent of their research. In other words, a decline in abundance in the source population in one year will result in a decline in the sink population in the following year, as a smaller source population produces fewer young to ... Ledan Research Paper Ledan (currently going by the alias of Ledan Leda Hale) is an archangel/human hybrid, sometimes known as an Archnephilim (a phrase coined by Dean) and a witch, known or at least believed to be one of the only ones of his kind, maybe even the olnly one. He uses his witchcraft to perform spells on demand, occasionally for money but usually he ll do it for an nondescript favour (which you ll be bound to) that can be called in at any time. He was born in 339BC, in early Iron Age Sweden, and grew up believing, in his early years, he was an average human. However, he is the son of the archangel Jophiel (who died when he was two) and a powerful witch called ThyrvĂŻ; making him very much not. He believed this because his powers took time to manifest, and even when they did, in the beginning they were relatively harmless. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to his mix of Archangel and Human he is probably at least near omnipotent (at least as near to it as an Archangel is), but is still (even after 2,353 years) in the stage of developing his powers. However, due to the hex that was recently placed on him, he s currently able to use a limited amount of power at a time; causing him to become weak after prologued use of the powers he has through his father s (his archangel) side. In my essay i m also going to talk about political, social, economic and the population. Advantages that the North had were they had more train tracks and they had more people in the North than the South did. • 12. Effect Of Natural Forces On Sister Carrie The Effect of Natural Forces on the Characters in Sister Carrie In the novel, Sister Carrie, many characters believe that they have the ability to pave the pathway toward their future. However, they don t realize that few of these actions are determined by them. They are clueless as to how little a choice they have in making their decision, because of the natural forces that impact them. Forces such as societal pressure, luck, and their level of sophistication impact their state of mind, causing them to pursue a different pathway. These forces cause Hurstwood and Carrie to purse an option that they would not normally pursue. Hurstwood and Carrie believe that they have more control over their lives then they actually do. However, it appears that their varying degrees of self determination is less than they assume because of forces, such as level of sophistication, luck, and societal pressure that play a profound role in dictating their decisions. What appears to be human choice is influenced by the character s subjectivity and recklessness towards their situation, depending on their age. Dreiser only reveals to the reader that Carrie is from Wisconsin; however, he fails to inform the reader anymore about her past or experiences that she has had. This leads one to believe that Carrie is experiencing these events for the first time, making her vulnerable to the deception others display, until she learns to use deception and trickery for personal gain (Prizer 577). The Houston Equal Rights Ordinance Introduction HERO, the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance, according to the City of Houston Equal Rights Ordinance (2014), covers nondiscrimination against sex, race, color, ethnicity, national origin, age, familial status, marital status, military status, religion, disability, sexual orientation, genetic information, gender identity, and pregnancy. The ordinance lists sections of protection within city services and employment, contracting with the city, public accommodations, private employment, and housing (Exh A, 2014). (Ord. No. 2014 530, § 2(Exh A), 5 28 2014) Although the ordinance protects several classes of people within five separate categories, the ordinance became the policy in favor of men in women s bathrooms. With a lot of attention on transgender people within the last year alone, the media was able to manipulate public perception by focusing on one aspect of the ordinance. Many Houstonians, still weary of the LGBTQ community and ill informed, were fully against the ordinance, claiming to defend their women and children against predators. Voters believed the ordinance created an open door for sex crime to increase in the city. Consequently, the ordinance failed to pass with a 60% opposing vote. The Holocaust did in fact happen, and it happened not long ago. Some people can not see this as fathomable, but it is possible that if we do not tell posterity of these horrors, they could very well happen again. The book Night written by Elie Wiesel paints a dark and very real depiction of the Holocaust. It recounts the time the author spent in Auschwitz and how the experience affected him. Another major method that Stalin used to maintain his power was the use of propaganda to portray himself as a benevolent father figure. While at the same time he was committing mass murder. In Ukraine alone he killed ten million people in only two years! Many historians agree that Stalin killed over sixty million people. Why did he kill so much people? This can be traced back to Machiavelli s The Prince. As discussed before, The Prince teaches that a ruler should have the fear of the people. Stalin slaughtered so many people to prevent any opposition to his reign. He eliminated all the strong people, both the intellectual and physical; therefore the few left would be too afraid and too weak, physically and mentally, to resist. Stalin did exactly what Machiavelli stated in the Prince, which was also stated above, And here it has to be noted that men must be either pampered or crushed, because they can get revenge fore small injuries but not fore grievous ones. Stalin stated Death is the solution to all problems. No man no problem. , Gratitude is a sickness suffered by dogs. , and I trust no one, not even myself. Many construe cultures as being categorized by their basic views of religion, disposal of the dead, hygiene, medical treatment, social interactions, and gender roles, while others believe cultures are defined antagonistically. Though ideas of what embody a culture differ, the creed that culture is diverse and varies internationally through location is comprehensive. The Importance Of Effective Communication Skills I have developed my effective communication skills over the past few years whilst working both my current jobs; Vue Cinema and Sainsbury s, whilst studying Law at Leeds Beckett University. In order to effectively communicate with others I believe it is essential to listen to, not just hear people s views. This includes what words have been spoken, but also how they have been spoken, taking note both the person s body language and tone of voice. An example of when I have utilised this skill is when I notice customers struggling with their packing at Sainsbury s and I volunteer to help them, even if I am currently not serving them. Customers often do not ask for help, but I assess the situation through a customer s body language and facial expressions to determine whether to help. Packing, even though a seemingly small task, involves constant effective communication, this allows myself to understand the customer s requirements and needs as to how and what should be packed. Effective communication builds a colleague customer relationship, in result creating a trust between them and the company. Effective communication also involves being aware of others emotions i.e. being sympathetic to other people s misfortune and using empathy to put yourself in the other persons shoes .
