Lucretia
The Lucretia was painted between 1520 to 1525 by Joos Van Cleve. The painting is an oil
painting on a wooden canvas. It can attribute to the High Renaissance art in Italy because it has
similar qualities and expressions with other works of art from that time period. The subject of this
picture is Lucretia an ancient Roman woman who had a vital role in reshaping the Roman Kingdom
into the Roman Republic. In the paintingshe is standing while piercing herself with a knife. She is
wearing a red coat with brown fur trimming. It is very lose on her dropping off her shoulders
exposing her breasts. She is also wearing two necklaces, a golden ring, and a golden bracelet.
One necklace is a golden chain, and the other is a necklace with a pendent. Both of her clothes
and jewelry shows that either she was in a wealthy family or had a high social position. Lucretia
is also wearing a red bonnet with a white veil that almost looks like smoke. The knife that she is
holding between her two hands is cutting through her stomach and going up. Blood can be seen
coming out of her wound. Lucretia is clearly commenting suicide and her facial expression is
just utter pain. Lucretia s body is only about three quarters shown of her upper body. Her breasts
are exposed and how her jewelry is draped on her naked body shows an immediate impression of
beauty and luxury of the female figure. Her head is tilted slightly to one side and her hands
clenching the knife shows that she might be reflecting on

Texas State And Local Government
Cailen Hollins
Texas State and Local Government (04706) The two states of Texas and California have vastly
different methods of taxation and they also differ in how they spend these taxes collected. In the
past, many people packed up and moved out west to California because they saw it as the land of
opportunity, but recently, this trend has changed as many individuals and businesses have been
moving from California down to Texas. This is a relevant point to discuss because this movement
has much to do with how California and Texas both taxtheir citizens. Texas prefers a regressive tax
system, which taxes citizens by letting the taxes fall as the tax base increases, California
implements the opposite method through more progressive taxes. While citizens may prefer Texas
s system of limited taxation, this also severely effects what services the government is able to
provide to its citizens, which is why I would argue for slightly higher taxes so that Texas can
obtain more benefits in the long run. Many citizens have moved to states like Texas and
California because they see it as a place of opportunities to find careers or raise families. Despite
Texas being the second largest state in America, according to the 2010 Census, its population was
lower than that of California. California s total population amounted to 37, 253, 956, meanwhile
Texas was only at 25, 145, 561. Consequently, in 2014 the total taxes collected in California were
higher than Texas, with California

Rose Stein Analysis
Stein s poetics, especially her tender buttons works, is engrossed with many repetitions. Initially,
with prior knowledge, the power of repetition was understood. When imitating Steins, it
demonstrated the power of repetition. In tender buttons, however, Stein proses creative poems on
simple, domesticated objects such as food. With this repetition in her food pieces, it allows the
readers to hear the wordor phrase in different angles. By doing so, the reader then examines the
word or phrase in a way that was not originally thought of, shedding a new meaning to the word
or phrase. Not only, does the repetition allow for examining new meanings of the word, but also re
illuminating a word that has become a clichГ© which is evident in her poem rose . At first glance,
the poem seems to have no creativity and seems absurd. When reading the poem, however, it
allowed for the reader to hear the phonemic sounds, illuminating the word once again.... Show more

Throughout writing experiences, I explored different writing forms and employing different
literary devices. While I did use repetition, it was not as obvious or filled the whole prose of the
poem, rather it was chosen more carefully and placed strategically. By doing so, it did not allow
for room to truly appreciate the art of repetition. Imitating Stein, allowed me to explore different
simple subjects as the center of the poem and allowing thoughts and feelings about the subject to
flow, rather than exhausting the idea of the subject. Writing in the style of Stein made me explore
the beauty of simple objects and not exhausting it and damaging the art of

Ezra Pound

Ezra Pound Response: The Tree by Ezra Pound is about how Pound identifies with the tree like
state in which the nymph, Daphne, of Greek myth finds herself in order to escape Apollo. Pound
begins the poem explaining how he was a tree amid the wood meaning a changed being amid a
familiar yet under perceived environment. He likens this form to the myth of Apollo who chases
Daphne until she asks the god, Peneus, to change her into a tree. Even though she is transformed
into a laurel , which happens to be the Greek word for Daphne, Apollo is still able to recognize
her by the inner beauty of the tree before him. He then claims the tree as his own, just as he would

The first and last identical lines are, The eyes of this dead lady speak to me. This repetition
makes me believe that he did not know who the lady was, but he feels a haunting connection to
her somehow. Pound recognizes a passion in the woman that is so strong, it is conveyed even
from a two dimensional image of her. This must have meant that she moves Pound in a way he
has experienced before. His desire to feel this emotion again is no less just because she is dead.
By repeating the first line at the end of the poem, Pound drives home the strength of his feeling for
the woman considering that the entire poem is only four lines in total. The title does not give much
away about the poem except that it is about a picture. Nevertheless, it does tell that the picture
means something to Pound because he titled it The Picture , not A Picture which would probably
be about pictures in general. Ezra Pound reveals his emotional side in this poem and demonstrates
his passion and perception of unspoken language. Ezra Pound explains his view on marriage in
his poem, The Altar . He says in the first line Let us build here an exquisite friendship. The
exquisite friendship is a symbol for marriage and the altar is the place where that marriage begins.
He goes on to call it a place of wonder , because it is the place where the everlasting bond is
consecrated. The altar is holy ground where God makes two people s love for

The Intelligence Of The Cia Triad Network Security
Introduction
Over the last few years the amount of security breaches that have been reported have had one factor
that has been prevalent in majority of the attacks. That factor is the employee s and how they are
manipulated into giving the intruder/hacker exactly what they needed without realizing it. The use
of social engineering in data breaches and fraud has been steadily increasing over the years.
Confidentiality, integrity, and availability the three components of the CIA triad in network security
can all be compromised by the risk of social engineering.
Definition of Social Engineering
Social engineering also known as people hacking is the art of utilizing human behavior to breach
security without the victim even realizing that they have been manipulated. Social engineering can
be further broken down to three methodologies.
1.Phishing The sending of emails appearing to be from a reputable source with the goal of gaining
personal information from the victim(s)
2.Vishing This is the practice of getting information from the victim or attempting to Influence
actions by the use of a telephone.
3.Impersonation This is the practice of pretending to be another person with the goal of obtaining
information or access to a person, company, or computer system.
Categories of Social Engineering
Social engineering attacks fall under to main categories:

Lawson s Use Of Figurative Language
Lawson figuratively denotes that the Australian landscape is harsh and monotonous. This concept
is distinctively created through the descriptions of the setting established throughout In a Dry
Season, which recounts the persona s experiences of events, people, and the Australian landscape
during a train ride to Bourke in the summer of 1892. This is clearly evident as Lawson captures the
essences of the Australian bush culture and introduces his reader to the eccentric nature of its
inhabitants. A unique nature that Lawson illustrates in his story of the Australian bush culture is
the Australian outback. The use of figurative language in draw a wire fence, and a few ragged

Research Paper on Gregory Rasputin
Grigori Rasputin was not a very great person in history. A great person in history does good and
important things for his people, country and the world. Early Life and Family: Grigori
Efimovich Rasputin was born on January 10, between 1864 1872, along the Tura River in the
village of Pokrovskoye. Rasputin was married to Praskovia Fyodorovna in 1889. His mother was
Anna Egrovna and his father was Efim Rasputin. Grigori had three children with Praskovia,
named Varya, Maria and Dmitry. Because of his constant drunkenness and sexual appetite, the
people of Pokrovskoye resented Rasputin. He grew tired of peasant life and in 1901, left behind

The Tsarina, Alexandra, believed God spoke to her through Rasputin. This influence over the royal
family gave Rasputin power over the church of Russia. Later, a woman named Khioniya Guseva
attempted to murder Rasputin shouting she had ?killed the antichrist.? Rasputin would come to be
known as the most popular and published monk in Russian history. Relations With The Royal
Family and The Revolution: In St. Petersburg, Rasputin would meet Anna Vyrubova, one of
Alexandra?s closest friends. Through Anna, Rasputin was summoned to heal Alexandra?s son
Alexis, who was a hemophiliac, in 1905. Rasputin was able to cure Alexis? bleeding with his
?holy powers.? When Alexis fully recovered, Rasputin gained the trust of the Tsar and Tsarina.
Because Alexis? hemophilia was so easily agitated, Rasputin was called multiple times to heal
Alexis and through hypnosis, was able to heal him every time. Little did the Tsar and Tsarina know
that Rasputin would ultimately lead to the downfall of the royal family. The Tsar saw Rasputin as a
trustworthy friend to his family and himself. Unfortunately, WWI made its way to Russia in 1914,
and Rasputin urged the Tsar not to go to war because he knew that innocent Russian blood would be
spilt. Gossip spread throughout Russia like an epidemic, about Rasputin?s amount of power over
the country and his debatable relationship with Alexandra. In his drunken state, Rasputin was
recorded saying he had the tsar

Classification
Classification Essay
There are three types of drivers in this world: competent, overcautious, and reckless. After driving
for many years in frustrating rush hour traffic, one might find there are three types of drivers,
competent drivers who keep the flow going, over cautious drivers who cause slow and backed up
traffic, and reckless drivers who weave in and out of traffic causing one near death experience after
another. Trying to sort out what type of driver a person might be is an extremely challenging task.
In a person s own mind, they think they are the aggressive type of driver, or the cautious type, but
no one will ever admit that they are reckless kind. In most cases they re too oblivious to these
classifications and all other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A final classification of an overcautious driver would be one who was previously in bad accident.
Feeling the mental and financial sting of having to buy a whole new car really puts things into
perspective, but hinders them on the road.
Now we get into what is known as the reckless driver. A picture comes to mind of a frazzled man
or woman driving a beat up Oldsmobile; cigarette dangling from the lip of their mouth, swerving
in and out of traffic while others beep their horns in disapproval. This type of driver can occur
when a competent driver has had a bad day and is encountering the overly cautious driver.
Stereotypically this driver is younger in age and male, but I feel that the reckless driver has no set
age or sex. They get so angry for the smallest of reasons that they don t really care what they do as
a result, so long as they go out in a blaze of glory. They tend to disregard most driving signs and
have no qualms about risking their life or the lives of others. These are the drivers who barely
apply the brake when coming to a stop, more like tap tap and go . My uncle Jim is a prime
example of a reckless driver. At the age of 82, he drives a boat of a Cadillac, commanding the
streets with his led foot and somewhat latent reactions to those around him. Try telling him to ease
up or look out, and he s bound to increase the gas flow to his V8 engine.

Examples Of Racial Stereotyping
Racial Stereotyping
Racial stereotyping is a classification of beliefs about distinctive characteristics of members of the
same ethnic race. While some claim that it is apart of the past and does not exist today, many
factors prove otherwise. In today s society, racial stereotyping is evident in police brutality cases,
the mass media, and in the film industry.
Racial stereotyping is still evident today proven by police brutality being justified. Over 20
percent of black unarmed people killed by police are women (Martis 1). When questioned why the
officer had to shoot them, their responses imply that it was because she was an angry black woman.
These women that are killed, despite being unarmed, were not combative or argumentative with ...

In movies, many African Americans are portrayed as these characters that are stereotyped despite it
being untrue. In the movie Malibu s Most Wanted, the character Brad who is a new rapper
...dresses and talks like he s straight outta Compton... (Coloma 581). The stereotype that an African
American rapper must look and dress a certain way is still existing today. Almost everyone watches
movies and depicts African American rappers in a negative light as being from the ghetto and being
aggressive and dangerous. Another stereotype among African American are the ...negative
stereotypes that depict blacks as minstrels, cooks, servants, and as slow witted and inept persons (

successful because of the stereotype that all Asians are academically smart. Many Asian actors
have criticized Hollywood for not representing them in different lights and the lack of

Evolution Of A Large Mammal s Life Cycles
Fossils are considered to be evolutionary markers that records a lineages of creatures across time
providing a distinct way to compare different species. When Darwin set forth on a journey to the
Galapagos Islands, he discovered many aspects of evolution. During his expedition, he discovered
the fossils of creatures which closely resembled the modern armadillos. At that time, Darwin did
not possess any tools or resources to predict the phylogenetic lineages and the evolutionary history
of the armadillos. However, using modern day science and techniques like DNAand protein
sequencing, it is now possible to better understand the relationships between different organisms.
Furthermore, by observing the early developmental (embryonic) stages of a large mammals life
cycles it is possible to indicate the relationship of the mammals with other mammals6. The
combination of these methods may lead us to determine the phylogenetic position of armadillos
Dasypodidae and other related organisms, such as anteaters and sloths.
Armadillos evolutionary history has been a subject of many controversies and has been revised
multiple times. Nevertheless, new developments in sequencing have allowed us to better
understand the evolutionary relations using the DNA and proteins found in the fossils. By the use
of these techniques, we are able to see the points of similarities among different species of
armadillos. Furthermore, we can produce a phylogenetic tree to see the divergence of

The Fairie Queene Analysis
Skill of the Week: Reading for Women in Power
Throughout time, Chasity is a virtue of positive connotation but seems to have a fluctuating
denotation. In our modern world, the Urban Dictionary website defines chastity as more than just
abstinence. It s choosing not to have sex because you recognize the value of your own sexuality.
(UrbanDictionary.com). This definition allows for some leeway as it leaves room for possible
intercourse as long as it is valued. However, the reputable Oxford Dictionary narrows the meaning
to The state or practice of refraining from extramarital, or especially from all, sexual intercourse.
(OxfordDictionary.com) This Middle English definition leaves no room for hanky panky. In the
Fairie Queene, Edmund Spenser uses three predominate characters to create a Spenserian definition
of chastity.
In Canto 4, Spencer introduces the character Florimell. At that time, she is being pursued by
Arthur and Guyon (3.4.12). Furthermore, in Canto 5, more drama arises when Arthur learns that
Florimell is searching for her beloved Marinell (3.5.2). Florimell is noted as the most beautiful
female character in the epic and spends much of her time running away from almost all of the male
characters within the poem because they are in love with her. She relies on her ability to flee from
men with lustful intentions. This character shows how Spenser defines chastity as purity and
innocence as Florimell flees from temptation instead of taking it on like a modern day

Linkert Scale Survey
Likert survey scale was invented by Rensis Likert, who was first to apply this approach in
surveys to check attitudes. The main advantage of his method is that it requires less time to
develop and is easier to adopt than the previously used survey methods. Moreover, the Linkert s
approach does not require the use of negative wording points, which is why Linkert scalesurvey has
been used so much.
Likert Scaling is a undimensional scaling method. As in all scaling methods, the first step is to
define what it is you are trying to measure. (Trochim, 2006)
Questionnaire items are simple statements that the subject should be evaluated based on their
personal views. Commonly used five gradations, such as:
1.Strongly disagree
2.Disagree
3.Neither agree or disagree
4.Agree
5.Totally agree.
Statements wordings that are selected depend on the objectives of the researcher, the wording of
the response may also vary, for example from frequent to never go out or always buy never buy.
The number of grades can also be different (from three to nine). Selection of questions in the
survey scale compiled into a pilot study. To do this, create an initial list of questions, which are
offered to pilot survey takers from the chosen group of representatives (team members), they will
test each question for appropriateness. Approvals must be consistent from each pilot test survey
taker. Some questions will have to be taken off from the survey before the final survey is done.

Reflection On PARCC Test
The testing process was a general meeting with the staff who are qualified to administer the
PARCC exam. The principal ran through a state provided PowerPoint and provided the schedule
that works well for the school. The principal explained the security measures as well as who to
contact in case of emergencies or problems. There was also another meeting for the staff that could
not attend the original. All staff members who were involved with PARCC testing had to sign a
paper acknowledging that they attended the training. I was able to work with the secretary and
principal to coordinate testing times. I also served as a testadministrator and shadowed the
principal. In regards to the NJ ASK, there were multiple security components that had to be in
order. First off, the tests had to be checked in by two people; the principal and the counselor who
is also in charge of testing. The boxes of tests are then delivered to the testing closet where they
are counted and checked in their designated area. This closet is locked all the time and only the
principal has keys to it. The teachers were responsible to come to the testing closet to collect their
materials. The principal was responsible to make sure that staff members sign out their bins and
that all their materials are in the bin.
Reflection
As I reflect on state standardized test, I realize that budgeting extra time is always necessary.
While all PARCC tests have enough time, there was a day where one 8th grade class started late
and had technology issues. This caused a delay in lunches being served to the students. There
was also another issue with the technology in general. Many computers did not load the tests as
there was a JAVA update that needed to take place. There was also the issue with having the tests
spread out over 7 days and the whole school testing window over a month. The vision is to have
the students test on mine net books and I pads. While many schools do go that approach, I find
that we would have to teach our students how to use these tools first prior to the test. This would
take always instructional time. While we have ample computer labs to accommodate 6 classes at
one time, it would cause a hardship on the schedule. I would prefer to

Summary Of Attachment Theory
Article Summary
Anne Merrill and Tamara Afifi (2015) examine how attachment theory emotionally and cognitively
interacts with various secret keeping instances (Merrill, Afifi, 2015, p. 259). Research has shown
that secrecy has harmful affects such as, anxiety and stress (Merrill, Afifi, 2015, pp. 259 260).
However the level to which these individuals ponder, or ruminate, about the secret varies from
person to person (Merrill, Afifi, 2015, p. 259).
Theoretically, these researchers utilize the preoccupation models of secrecy to explain why secrecy
negatively affects a person s well being (Merrill, Afifi, 2015, p. 260). Research states, individuals in
a romantic relationship are likely to experience cognitive tension due to thought suppression and
intrusive thoughts (rumination), which continually repeat in efforts to maintain secrecy (Merrill,
Afifi, 2015, pp. 260 261). Attachment theory states, those individuals who are securely attached
(low anxiety and avoidance) are less likely to keep secrets from their partner because they are more
trusting (Merrill, Afifi, 2015, 2015, p. 261). As oppose to individuals with high attachment

the sample size (Merrill, Afifi, 2015, p. 265). Researcher s also found that the more avoidant
individuals are, the less likely they are to perceive their partner as having ownership over their

How Did The Persians Influence Other People Of Southwest Asia
World History Chapter 9 Essay Exam
Section 1 The Persians fought other people of Southwest Asia. In 550 BC, Cyrus ll won

Career Development Of A Manager Mentors
Summary: There are five areas in which a manager mentors their employees to assist in the long
term career development. These areas are performance, reputation and credibility, relationships,

career, they need to acquire and develop these five (5) areas. Performance is the necessarily that

Relationship within the workplace and the quality of those relationships is important to career
success. Relationships allow every employee to participate and combine their skills and talents
to help each other succeed. This will in turn, pulls all resources together for a successful team.
Mentoring employees on developing good relationships with each other helps the supervisor to
realize employee conflict when they are small and easier to solve. If a small problem is allowed
to continue it can lead to bigger problems. Visibility a key factor in mentoring an employee. An
employee s visibility is easier if that employee is seen as a good performer and has a good
reputation and credibility. There are key things mentors need to train an employee to do in
order to increase his or her visibility at work. Simple ways to increase visibility is to speak up at
meetings, ask to do projects, and participate in learning opportunities. This will allow an employee
more opportunities to become more visible to managers. Conflict resolution is an essential skill
that every employee must acquire. Employees are going to have disagreements and conflicts, but
with the correct skills they will know how to resolve them or at least set them aside during

The Leadership Practice Of A Nursing Student
As a nursing student, I have had great success forming therapeutic relationships with my clients and
have received positive feedback from clinical instructors about my patient communication.
However, I experience uncertainty when interacting with peers or colleagues. My lack of
confidence translates into difficulty forming effective professional relationships. This assessment is
reflected in my Clinical LeadershipSurvey as a deficit in the leadership practice of Encouraging the
Heart. This practice includes behaviors such as recognizing contributions, celebrating
accomplishments, and providing feedback (Patrick, Laschinger, Finegan, and Wong, 2011).
The results of my baseline survey support the theory that my weakness is in interprofessional
communication. Alternatively however, I recorded equal strength of fourteen out of fifteen in the
other four leadership practices. Each of these four practices incorporates an element of Emotional
Intelligence and reflective practice. Based on my clinical experiences and feedback from
instructors, I agree with these results and can identify that interprofessional communication is the
skill I must develop to become an effective leader.
Personal Strategies Over the Term

Community Policing Era Paper
Policing in the United States has evolved throughout history. The best way to understand it is by
becoming familiar with its history. There have been three policing eras in the United States and
they were the Political Era, the Reform Era, and the Community Policing Era. The Community
Policing Era is the form that is presently used in the United States. Approximately 350 years ago,
the first law enforcementsystem was started in Boston. These were the early days of American law
enforcement. When the colonist settled there in 1630 they appointed constables. Constables were
like a sheriff and in 1631 they appointed watchman an a few volunteers. They made sure that the
streets were safe, reported fires and apprehended and arrested anyone violating the law. The early
policing era was based off the English structure. The early policesystem was reactionary and they
only responded when a request was made by a victim or witness. In the last half of the nineteenth
century, the Sheriff used the concept of Posse... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Community Policing Era promotes the partnership of the community, government and fellow

crime within the community. In the Community Policing Era, the police officers are assigned to
a specific area and they get to know the people within that area. They went back to the use of foot
patrol and also established bicycle patrols. The use of the vehicle was still in place as well but
they are not just driving around in their vehicles like in the Reform Era. This brought back one of
Peele s principles which involves creating a more involved relationship with the community and this
in turn resulted in the community assisting the police in deterring crime. This era is focusing on
building relationships and showing that the police care about the

Dr. Sigmund Freud In Adlous Huxley s Brave New World
Adlous Huxley s novel, Brave New World, builds upon the ideas that were dominant and fresh in
the early part of the twentieth century. One such idea was Psychoanalysis, propagated by Dr.
Sigmund Freud. Though a psychoanalytical interpretation can be applied to any novel after the
fact, I believe Huxley used elements of the approach in the creation of his characters and plot. In
this novel Huxley presents a dystopic society in which various scientific and psychological
techniques are used to control people from their conception to their death.
Freud divided the personality into the id, ego and super ego. The id is home to animal urges, such
as hunger or sexual desire. In babies the first facet of personality to develop is the id, they demand

(102) In our society, Freud would say a person who behaves in this way has a fixation; their
psychological functioning has been stunted. However, in Bernard s society this would constitute as
normal functioning. The New World government conditions people to have extremely powerful
super egos that actually encourage, rather than inhibit, instant gratification of id impulses. As a
result the ego is diminished and people do not have to cope with conflicting emotions. This seems
to create stability in society, or at least passivity. The Director understands that this type of
psychological conditioning in the individual is essential to the functioning of society as a whole.
Alphas are so conditioned that they do not have to be infantile their emotional behaviour... It is their
duty to be infantile, even against their inclination. (106)
Since the general population of the Brave New world do not have families, they cannot reach
psychological maturity. Controller Mond subscribes to the view that families cause madness and
suicide (52) which was introduced by the Ford.
Our Ford our Freud, as, for some inscrutable reason, he chose to call himself whenever he spoke

Methods for Convex and General Quadratic Programmingв€
— Philip E. Gill†Elizabeth
Wong†UCSD Department of Mathematics Technical Report NA 10 01 September 2010 Abstract
Computational methods are considered for finding a point that satisfies the secondorder
necessary conditions for a general (possibly nonconvex) quadratic program (QP). The п¬Ѓrst part
of the paper defines a framework for the formulation and analysis of feasible point active set
methods for QP. This framework defines a class of methods in which a primal dual search pair is
the solution of an equality constrained subproblem involving a working set of linearly independent
constraints. This framework is discussed in the context of two broad classes of active set method for
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This reformulation gives the primal dual search pair as the solution of a KKT system formed from
the QP Hessian and the working set constraint gradients. It is shown that, under certain
circumstances, the solution of this KKT system may be updated using a simple recurrence relation,
thereby giving a significant reduction in the number of KKT systems that need to be solved.
The linear constraints of a QP may include an arbitrary mixture of equality and inequality
constraints, where the inequality constraints may be subject to lower and/or upper bounds. Many
mathematically equivalent formulations of the constraints are possible, and the choice of
formulation often depends on the context. We consider the generic quadratic program minimize n

constant, H is symmetric, A is m Г— n, and D is mD Г— n. (In order to simplify the notation, it is
assumed that the inequalities involve only lower bounds.) However, the methods to be described
can be generalized to treat all forms of linear constraints. No assumptions are made about H (other
than symmetry), which implies that the objective П•(x) need not be convex. In the nonconvex case,
however, convergence will be to local minimizers only. In Section 4, the nonbinding direction
method is extended to problems

Christine Arnie Sacrifice
In Stephen King s Christine, Arnie s obsessive love to Christine sets up a classical rivalry love
triangle between Christine, Arnie Cunningham and Leigh Cabot. While the theme of love triangles
are a relatively common and well understood among literature, plays, and movies, King s version of
a lovetriangle in the novelis somewhat unconventional. The protagonist of the novel, Christine, is
not a human character but a 1958 Plymouth Fury possessed by vengeful spirits of the LeBay family.
King characterized Christine as a female that Arnie loves very dearly. Nonetheless, the female
personification of Christine makes the story intriguing because the love triangle incorporates
elements of powerful human emotions such as obsession and jealousy,... Show more content on

King introduces the theme of love and love triangle before introducing Christine, effectively
avoiding confusion to the readers. The first sentence in the prologue states that the novel is ...a
story about a love triangle (King 1), clearly stating to the readers that this is one of the main
themes of the novel. Dennis, who is the narrator of the quote, also describes Christine as Arnie s
first and only true love (King 1). Further solidifying the importance of the theme love triangles
within the novel. This makes it easier for the reader to accept the fact that Christine is part of
the love triangle as a person rather than a car. To prove a love triangle existed since the
beginning of the novel, King begins with Arnie and Dennis s first encounter of Christine. With
the prologue s setting of the theme in the minds of the readers, King then introduces a female
character to the story. While Dennis was driving, Arnie said, go back, I want to look at her again
(King 7). By addressing the car as a female, Arnie acknowledges that the car is not seen as a car but
rather an actual person. His view of Christine as a woman instead of an inanimate object adds to
the love triangle because one character see s the car as a person, who can be added into the love
triangle. Within the prologue, love is shown between Arnie and Christine the car. King writes,
Arnie had fallen in love with a 1958 Plymouth Fury... (King 7). This quote shows Arnie has fallen
for Christine head over heels. This is yet another sign of an existing love triangle within the book.
These elements in the introduction that personify Christine are what make the love triangle so
effective for the reader. Circle of Friends by Maeve Binchy also employs this tactic of introducing
themes early within the novel through character introductions. The theme of friendship is
introduced when Benny Hogan and Eve Malone

The Culture Of The Mexican Culture
How many different types of cultures are there? Here s the answer there are many cultures. My
story starts like this; both of my parents are from Guadalajara well most of my family is from
that part of MГ©xico. Being part of the Mexican culture is very different from other cultures,
but every culture is unique of its own way. Many Mexican people have preserved and still do
many of their ancestors traditions. Tradition plays a big role in my family for example: the food
we eat, the music we listen to, what we dance to and what we celebrate to. I wanted a sweet
sixteen but of course being Mexican my parents said no. Being in the Mexican culture tradition
is that when you turn 15 you re supposed to have a Quinceanera it symbolizes that you are no
longer a kid but you are now a young women. Many people think a Quinceanera is just a party
but the real tradition is to have a church mass. Since I am catholic that consists of me going to
church and thanking God. Social behaviors impact your life in many ways. You have roles and
rules in your cultures. When you re with your friends you act a different way. When it has to do
with family or church groups you have a role and rules and your behavior is different. Women
and Males have different rules and roles. Mother is supposed to stay home and Father is
supposed to work to help his family. Women are not supposed to do yard work their job is inside.

themselves from everyone else by usually playing by themselves as if they were in their own

emotional connection they have is either their mother or someone who is extremely close to them. I

Communists, they had common basic outlook: they were philosophical materialists, committed to

Stalin was active in the revolutionary movement in Tiflis, Batum, and elsewhere, not as

Child Poverty And Home Visiting Programs
Background on Child Poverty and Home Visiting Programs
Children born into poverty are more likely to have social, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral
problems. In addition, children in poverty are more likely to have physical health problems, mental
health problems, and mothers receive less prenatal care. For instance, a child born in poverty is more
likely to have a lower birth weight than his or her counterparts. Low birth rate is a contributing
factor in infant mortality within the first year of the child s life. Additionally, children born in
poverty have lower IQ test scores and have less school achievements when compared to their
counterparts. Because poverty impacts cognitive development more than physical, it is likely, that
poverty will persist through subsequent generations. Further, nutrition, or the lack of, is one factor
that contributes to the development of a child. One study suggests that children in poverty are
twenty two times more likely to suffer from maltreatment than those children not in poverty. The
poverty rate in comparison state is twenty two percent, which is the second highest in the country
and equal to the national rate of children living in poverty. Children born into poverty, on average,
live in poverty until he or she is eight years old. Therefore, it is important to provide services to
people living in poverty to help them understand their situation and provide them with the resources
necessary to break the poverty cycle.

The Causes Of Witchcraft Hysteria In The Salem Witch Trials
In 1692, the British colony of Massachusetts endured abnormal accusations of witchcraft against
more than 150 people (Prentice Hall Literature, p. 1087). Many factors caused the witchcraft
hysteria to come alive during the 1600 s. Two important factors were: Daemonologie, written by
England s King James I, and the bewildering behavior of the accusing teenage girls. While Arthur
Miller explains that the accusations could have been made over the lust for land, there are also
reasons not explained: how the role of women and children during the 17th century may have
affected their behavior and the theory of Ergot fungus poisoning the girls minds.
While Daemonologie did solely focus on the existence of witches among people, it also had major

women and children during this time period.
In the 17th century, as well as centuries before and after, the role of women was to serve their

Science Vs Religion
Distinguishing science from non science or religion is generally an easy matter, as the two rarely
seem to make claims to be scientific. When they do make claims of being scientific, this becomes
known as pseudoscience. Even so, it is useful to recognize the distinctions, as science doesn t
always clearly do so. For the boundary between scienceand religion, a majority of the cases can be
separated well through the verificationistic view. While empirical matters are primarily dealt with
science, spiritual matters are primarily dealt with religion because they cannot be objectively and
empirically observed.
When distinguishing science from non science, it s easiest to start by defining the fundamentals
that make up what science is, and then define all of the fields that fall outside this definition as
non science. At it core, science is a system of acquiring knowledge about the physical world
through objective experimentation and observation. Therefore, fields that do not involve the
acquisition of knowledge, such as art and business, can be classified as being non science.
Moreover, mathematics is a field considered to be non science because doesn t acquire knowledge
about the physical world. The field of engineering proves to be an interesting case. While engineers
practically apply scientific knowledge, the field as a whole is non scientific.

Impact of OPEC s Oil Pricing on the Petroleum Market
Energy resources are essential for national security, technological development, overall
contemporary life style, etc. In this respect, oil is the main source for worldwide economy. Peak oil
would imbalance countries economical situations and may lead to a chain reaction with negative
effects on multiple layers. Evidently, there is mutual interest to prevent such a thing from
happening but the possibility is nevertheless considered. OPECs initial goal to ensure stable prices
on petroleummarkets in order to avoid any negative fluctuations did not always correspond. The
organization actually favored inflation more than in one occasion but its influence in
controlling oil prices dropped considerably since 1973. It was proven that, having quadrupled the
price of oil, OPEC had in its hands the power to inflict economic hurt on the rich countries.
(Beenstock 2007, p. 134) Although OPEC does not completely control the oil market today, it
nevertheless continues to be influent because its decisions to reduce production may lead to
either a decrease or increase of oil prices. OPEC s existence is dependent on the future of oil.
Whether or not oil will dominate as the main energetic source for worldwide economy will decide
its future. Considering that OPEC s oil has been a vital source of energy during the last half of
century, (Khusanjanova 2011, p. 19) and that oil is expected to play a similar role within the next
century, we can assume the organization will at least maintain its

Plate Tectonics And Its Impact On The Earth
Plate tectonics occur not only just on Earth, but on other planets in the galaxy as well, such as
Venus, Mars, and ancient Mercury. Since there are several planets in the Milky Way that have plate
tectonics, it is questionable about if size is a key factor in the likelihood of tectonics on foreign
planets. Vol canoes, mountains, ocean ridges, earthquakes, and tsunamis all would not be possible
without the movement of the Earths tectonic plates. Dependent upon heat for movement, tectonic
plates are one of the victims of Earth s active life. Since the Earth is not static in movement,
landforms are moved and shifted slowly but surely each day. It is questionable if hydration and
planetsize are significant factors in the likelihood of plate tectonicson super Earths.
Tectonism is the moving and deformity of the exterior layer of a planet caused by heat loss. The
constant movement of molten lava in the planet s interior causes plate tectonics, and some planets
in modernity still have active tectonics, such as Earth, Mars, and Venus. As for Mercury and the
Moon, the two have been tectonically active in the past, but still have features on their surfaces
which exemplify plate tectonics to have once existed (USRA, 2009). Scientists are starting to study
the hypothesis that the size of a planet and the amount of water it possesses affects the likelihood
of plate tectonics on a planet, including planets like super Earths. A super Earth is a foreign planet
that is ab normally larger

Analysis Of Riverine By Alice Hoffman
The story Riverine has a lot of great details and interesting quotes that may stick out to a read and
make you wanna continue reading until you finish the whole story. The key thing that stood out
to me early in this book was the quote from Alice Hoffman s Being an outsider is the one thing
we all have in common. The reason for it is because it is completely true not matter what you do
in your life now or in the future you will always be an outsider from time to time depending on
different situations. The narrator of the story feels like an outsider from different times in the story
because she feels perhaps she can not fit in into anything going on around her. She first begins to
feel as an outsider due to the fact that she lives way out

Essay on Worth in Everyday Use
A Question of Worth in Everyday Use
From the fashionable, expensive clothing that the character Dee in Alice Walker s Everyday Use
wears, the girl seems almost immediately to be a person of great value and importance. It may
seem, too, at first glance, that Dee s mother and sister, Maggie, in their tin roof house and shabby
clothing, are of little or no worth in Everyday Use. The story ironically shows, under more careful
thought, that the very outer characteristics which deem Dee the more valuable character are the ones
which prove that the mother and Maggie have the more powerful inner worth.
In the beginning of the story, Dee is portrayed to be more physically valuable than her mother and
Maggie. Dee s outfit reeks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Houston A. Baker, Jr. and Charlotte Pierce Baker suggest that Ultimately, the framed Polaroid
photograph represents the limits of Dee s vision (416). With close examination, the camera, which
represents Dee s material wealth, can also be used to prove her inability to see people, places and
things for what and who they really are.
By far the most striking piece of evidence supporting Dee s lack of inner value is her desire to
have the quilts. At first, Dee s anger over being denied the quilts seems justified. Dee claims that
she would preserve the quilts and Hang them (1154). Yet, the real purpose of possessing the
quilts, as seen on a larger scope, is to use the old quilts for the simple life the mother and Maggie
lead. To actually put the quilts to everyday use, as Maggie will do, is symbolically preserving the
family heritage. Dee s cry that Maggie would probably be backward enough to put them to
everyday use (1154) portrays Dee as the materialistic, backward character.
Just as the argument over the quilts shows Dee as intrinsically immature, it directly points out that
the mother and Dee have, in fact, great value within them. Dee s mother, for instance, is at first
silent to Dee s demands to have the butter churn and wooden benches. When Dee takes the quilts,
previously promised to Maggie, the mother then becomes defensive. The mother questions Dee s
intended use of the quilts in an effort to deter Dee from her insistence of owning

Xenophobia In Elie Wiesel s Night
Xenophobia marches across the planet
Despite the xenophobic and racist beliefs to be completely irrational primarily because God
created human as imago Dei, which means that we are all His children, at the certain periods of
the history of humanity and in some circumstances these beliefs may seem logical from people s
subjective point of view (Rydgren, 2004). It may happen because of the lack of information or due
to the cognitive limitations that make people massively follow a charismatic leader and adhere to
the suggested ideology. Unfortunately, xenophobia always causes a tragedy whether it is

Relationship Behind The Pythagorean Theorem
Pythagorean Theorem
Introduction
The Pythagorean Theorem is a relation in Euclidean geometry among the three sides of an right
angle. Pythagoras, a greek philosopher is credited for the discovery, but it is unsure who and
therefore theorem is named after him. The formula is a2 + b2 = c2.
History of the Mathematician behind the Pythagoras Theorem and the Pythagorean relationship.
People are unsure whether the relationship was made either by Pythagoras or the Pythagoreans
first proof, Pythagoras is Greek from the Samos island (570 495 B.C.). The Founder of the
Brotherhood of Pythagoreans is Pythagoras. Pythagoreans have their own religion where, Number

Conclusion
The Pythagorean Theorem is a2 + b2 = c2. We learnt the history of the pythagorean relationship, like
who made it and how it is made.We also found proofs of the relationship and learned to understand
why this relationship is true. We also learned that there are some rare relationships that exists
between Pythagorean numbers. We are very familiar with the pythagorean theorem and now we can
solve complex questions involving the pythagorean theorem now.
Reflection
Our group has had many fights but in the end we managed to complete our work very well. It
was difficult to cope with having a new member join our group and one of our members was put
into another group, but we still managed to do very well in the end and had a lot of fun doing the
project.

The Greed of Music Industry Executives and Declining...
The Greed of Music Industry Executives and Declining Record Sales
The music recording industry is in trouble. For several years now, sales of new and popular music
have steadily declined and show no sign of changing. The record companies are quick to blame the
growing popularity of the Internet; music is being traded in a digital form online, often
anonymously, with the use of file sharing programs such as Morpheus, KaZaA, and Imesh, to name
a few. The RIAA (Recording Industry Associationof America) succeeded in disbanding the pioneer
Internet file sharing program, Napster, but is facing confrontation with similar programs that are
escaping American copyright laws. While there is an obvious connection between declining popular

Even sales figures for singles are down. Sales are off by 63.9%...6.7 million units were sold in the
first six months of 2002 vs. 18.6 million unites in the same period in 2001 (Garrity).
Not only are the companies themselves facing hard times, but the retail stores that sell music are
also suffering their own losses. Musicland Stores, the largest music retailer in the U.S. continues
to report losses and declining sales...For the third quarter, the Minnetonka, Minn. based company
reports a new loss of $16.1 million, compared with a loss last year of $144.6 million (Jeffrey).
The company was even forced to close some of its stores. At quarter s end, Musicland operated
1476 stores...During the quarter, the company closed the following: Nine Sam Goody
/Musiclands, two Media plays, one On Cud, and on U.K. store (Jeffrey). This problem hits home
in Vermillion, South Dakota, where the local On Cue store, the only place to buy entertainment
products like CDs and audiocassettes, was forced to close because of insufficient revenues.
Inhabitants of Vermillion are now forced to travel anywhere from 30 to 60 miles away to purchase
music offline. While this town obviously reflects a very small percentage of consumers, the lack of
immediately available music products certainly will not help the declining record sales.

Nietzsche, A Critic Of Religion
Nietzsche is widely known as a critic of religion. In fact, he talks in depth about morality in
regards to religion in his essays about the genealogy of morals. But the problem is not within
religion itself or within morals. The problem is involved in the combination of the two to create
society s understanding of moralitythrough a very religious lens. In fact, Nietzsche has criticism
for almost any set of morals constructed by a group of individuals and meant to be applied to
society as a whole. True morality, according to Nietzsche, requires a separation from these group
dynamic views of morality or at least a sincere look into where they originated and why they
persist and a movement towards a more introverted, and intrinsically personalized understanding of
what morals mean in spite of the fact that the normative force to which every member of society is
exposed, in the form of obligations, codes of behavior, and other moral rules and guidelines, is
disproportionally high (Korfmacher 6). As Nietzsche points out, within society there is a tendency
to conflate religious standards with morality. In fact, it is difficult to discuss morality at all without
running into issues that appear to be religious by their nature, but which, upon reflection, do not
need to be put under that blanket. According to Nietzsche, we tend to mix religionand morality
together because that is how we developed morality from the beginning of humanity. In fact,
Nietzsche believes that all

One Trip To The Trashcan
Times are tough, and more people are cooking at home than dining out. However, some of them
are starting to get frustrated with how much time it takes to prepare a good meal. Here are three
great tips to make cooking faster, easier, and more enjoyable. Cooking Tip #1: Make One Trip to
the Trashcan Running back and forth to the trashcan is aggravating (as well as inefficient). You
can make only one trip by lining a colander, sink strainer, small trash can, or other wide mouthed
receptacle with a plastic shopping bag and keeping it next to your cutting board. If your cutting
board happens to be right next to the sink, place the lined receptacle in the basin. Otherwise place
the receptacle at your feet (but be careful not to trip over it). Toss... Show more content on

Limiting the use of our utilities is not only beneficial to our budget but also to the environment as
well. Here are several useful and lesser known tips in conserving energy while you are in the
kitchen. While being in the kitchen, the stove is one of the main items that will use up the most
energy, so it is important to be wise with your energy consumption when cookingon it. Adjust the
burners when using a gas based cooking top so that the flames just barely touch or are a tad
lower than the bottom of the pans you are cooking on. Flames that curl around a pan waste more
energy. However, if you are using an electric cook top, put the pan on a coil that is similar in
size. Place the pan so that its bottom lies absolutely flat on the burner. This will conserve a great
deal of energy. Also, when using an electric stove, set the burners on high first and then proceed to
lower it to finish the cooking. For dishes that aren t pans, turn off the burner completely at the end
as the element will hold the heat for several minutes. In addition to your stoves, the oven vent on an
electrical range can be very useful. If you are using an oven vent on an electrical range, you will
find that the vent is under one of the burners. While the oven is in use, you will be able to feel
the hot air flowing through the vent. For dishes that you would like to warm, set them on that
burner. This will minimize the use of a microwave and will also optimize the use of your
burners. Now, for dishes that need to cook for long periods of time, particularly over an hour,
there is no need to preheat your oven (unless you are cooking a turkey that needs a crisp skin). For
dishes that must be cooked just under an hour, extend the cooking time for a little bit. The only
preheating that is required is for dishes that have a short baking time. Although this seems like a
very obvious tip

Crisis Counselor Skills
Skills, Knowledge, and Training Required for Crisis Counselors
When counselors choose to be on a disaster response team they need to be aware of the skills and
knowledge that is required for the job. The first thing that counselors need to be aware of is the
burnout rate of being a disaster counselor. According to Sommer (2008), there is four components
that a clinician needs to be an effective disaster counselor. First the clinician needs to have a vast
knowledge and training in trauma based counseling, pay attention to all aspects of treatment the
conscious and the unconscious, have a reciprocated reverence for the interpersonal climate. Lastly,
possess the knowledge of the educational components dealing with secondhand trauma. The same

Counselors are very important during this time to help counsel the loved ones of the person that
lost their life in the disaster. Bender (2002) suggest that this leaves the family not able to have a
traditional funeral, especially if the body cannot be found.
When dealing with grief clinicians need to actively listen to their clients, provide empathy and
openness, and make sure the client is in a situation that is nonjudgemental. Clinicians needs to be
trained in these techniques when dealing with disasters that involve death. Clinicians also need to
reassure clients that it is okay to vent the uncomfortable feelings the person maybe feeling.
Another approach that clinicians needs to be trained in is utilizing the community and training
them to help foster comfort to people that are suffering from the disaster. According to Henley,
Marshall, Vetter, (2011) the people in the community (such as teachers, law enforcement etc,) can
help people with problem solving skills and coping skills if the correct training from a mental health
professional. The same authors suggest that clinicians need to utilize the proper assessment and
screening tools that can serve multiple

Concentration Camps Of The Holocaust
Holocaust
On the 30th of January 1933 a genocide called the Holocaust started, where people who weren t
considered the perfect male or female were sent to concentration camps where they were made to
work hard and very little fed. They were also tortured, experimented on and killed.
The Holocaust was started by a man called Adolf Hitler who took over Germany and was against
Jews, disabled people, homosexuals, black people, homeless people and the mentally ill.
Although people call the camps concentration camps there were different types of camps like
extermination camps, labour camps, prisoner of war camps and transit camps. The first ever
concentration camp was called Dachau and the first people to be sent there were politicians who
were against Hitler s ways and people who were considered asocial , this included the disabled,
the homeless and the mentally ill. After Kristallnacht in 1938 the Germans started killing more
Jewish people which meant more Jews were sent to concentration camps. Jews were forced out of
their homes and had to live in ghettos and in some of the larger ones over 1000 people were sent
to the camps a day.
Life in the camps was horrible and very harsh. Prisoners were forced to work very hard and were
given hardly any food, they shared a crowded bunk with 3 or more people and there was no
bedding. They were tortured and killed usually for not working hard enough, they were also
experimented on.
While concentration camps were meant to work the

The Copyright Law Of Canada Connected With An Ethical Line...
This paper discusses the copyright law in Canada connected with an ethical line in music sharing.
Before embarking on the discussion, it is imperative to understand what copyright entails under the
umbrella of intellectual property; the latter refers to intangible property, which is entirely a creation
of the mind (Alexander Penalver, 2012, p. 188). Copyrightis the exclusive right granted to the
original author of literary work. In this effect, it prevents other people from using an authorship
without authorization by the original author. The latter grants license for the reproduction of
copies of the work, its usage, as well as distribution in lieu of some fee, i.e. royalty. Merges (2011)

After the period elapses, any person can use, print, publish, and distribute the original work. The
music industry has been in dispute for many years in respect to music piracy. It went after
software and website developers, as well as consumers in the courts (Easley, 2005, p.163). As a
result, this may be why governing the expansion of the music industry towards later benefits for
the industry; however, not toward those who pirate from them (Easley, 2005, p.163). There is
clear evidence of a willingness to pay for online music in general through legal download services
such as iTunes (Easley, 2005, p.163). It is clear that some new markets are emerging; for example,
services such as 4G LTE combine music with other services. These markets may provide both better
margins and better copyright protection to the music industry. Nevertheless, some forms of music
piracy may ultimately come to be seen as an effective marketing channel for those services (Easley,
2005, p.163). Clearly the industry is adapting piracy issues. Based on the information mentioned
above, the objective of this paper is to emphasize the ethical dimensions of sharing music in the
Canadian context. There are different ways of such sharing like burning, lending, downloading, and
uploading among others. The argument is that burning and downloading are unethical while

Egg Chromatography Lab
Introduction
Chromatography is an experimental technique used to separate a substance into its components
based upon their polarities or non polarities. The purpose of this experiment was to use thin layer
chromatography to separate lipid molecules in an egg yolk sample. Silica thin layer chromatography
(TLC) plates were used along with the egg yolk sample and standard solutions of the three lipids
that were extracted from the egg yolk. Very small portions of the analytes were added to the plate
and placed into the chromatography chamber, which was filled with a solution of chloroform,
methanol, and water. The egg yolk separated into its components, and the standard solutions also
moved according to polarities. The hydroxyl groups on the plate due to the silica hydrogen bond
with polar molecules, preventing them from moving as far as nonpolar molecules. 1 ... Show more

The TLC plate was also used to confirm that these lipids are present in egg yolk by comparing the
dots to the dots from the egg yolk sample that separated on the TLC plate. Retention factors were
calculated to compare how far each dot traveled based on polarity. This lab is relevant to the
discussion of polar and nonpolar molecules, the brief overview of chromatography in the textbook,
and discussions on hydrogen bonding. In the field of biochemistry, chromatography is frequently
used for DNA fingerprinting, quality analysis in the food industry, diagnosis of diseases and
disorders, polymer synthesis, and even the Ebola immunization.

Dystopian Literature Analysis
1.Dystopia: Definition and Characteristics Dystopia is the anti utopia. It is defined as a futuristic,
imagined universe in which oppressive societal control and the illusion of a perfect society are

through an exaggerated worst case scenario, make a criticism about a current trend, societal norm,
or political system. Dystopiais shown as an alternative to the utopia, it represents a vision of a

In addition to that, Chad Walsh, in Utopia to Nightmare, says I submit that the shift from utopian to

psychological shifts that sometimes occur over a whole culture (117).Dystopian literature is
characterized, by Terry Chung, as fiction that presents a negative view of the future of society and
humankind (par. 3). The historical events that happened during the twentieth century contributed in
the raise of dystopian literature the Nazi era in Germany, the Stalin era in Russia. Industrial
revolution, World War I, the Russian Revolution, growing awareness of environmental damage,
rapid progress of technology, popularization of capitalistic trends as well as fear that machine
could take power on the men were the reasons for appearance of creation of dystopian literature.
Author of dystopian fiction are often inspired by political and cultural problems. This kind of
literature came as a response to various wars over the decades, and as a commentary upon various
totalitarian regimes. Common dystopian themes in literature are: mastery of nature, technological
advances that enslave humans or regiment their lives, mandatory division of people into castes or
groups with specialized functions, and a collective loss of memory and

How Did Reconstruction Improve The United States After The...
Reconstruction
Reconstruction was a time of great pain and endless questions for the United States of America.
What was going to happen to the newly freed slaves? How would they be treated? Would the
United States ever be one cohesive country? Many of these questions are still unanswered in today
s society, but reconstruction was in place to try to rebuild the US after the devastation of the Civil
war. The reconstruction era lasted from 1865 1877. During this time the United States military was
stationed in the South, so that everything would run smoothly and hopefully allow for readmission
of the once confederate states, back into the Union as one.
The Civil war caused a lot of destruction and devastation in the Southern United States. Many
efforts were going to be needed if the United States wanted to be a strong power. There was a huge
push to secure the rights of the newly freed, former slaves and incorporate them more into society.
One major factor that led to the reconstruction era was the need for the rebuilding of infrastructure
in the South. After the Civil war, much of the infrastructure was unuseable. Also, the US hoped to
reorganize and revitalize the Southern states as a whole and bring them back into the Union. ...

  • 2. Lucretia The Lucretia was painted between 1520 to 1525 by Joos Van Cleve. The painting is an oil painting on a wooden canvas. It can attribute to the High Renaissance art in Italy because it has similar qualities and expressions with other works of art from that time period. The subject of this picture is Lucretia an ancient Roman woman who had a vital role in reshaping the Roman Kingdom into the Roman Republic. In the paintingshe is standing while piercing herself with a knife. She is wearing a red coat with brown fur trimming. It is very lose on her dropping off her shoulders exposing her breasts. She is also wearing two necklaces, a golden ring, and a golden bracelet. One necklace is a golden chain, and the other is a necklace with a pendent. Both of her clothes and jewelry shows that either she was in a wealthy family or had a high social position. Lucretia is also wearing a red bonnet with a white veil that almost looks like smoke. The knife that she is holding between her two hands is cutting through her stomach and going up. Blood can be seen coming out of her wound. Lucretia is clearly commenting suicide and her facial expression is just utter pain. Lucretia s body is only about three quarters shown of her upper body. Her breasts are exposed and how her jewelry is draped on her naked body shows an immediate impression of beauty and luxury of the female figure. Her head is tilted slightly to one side and her hands clenching the knife shows that she might be reflecting on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Texas State And Local Government Cailen Hollins Texas State and Local Government (04706) The two states of Texas and California have vastly different methods of taxation and they also differ in how they spend these taxes collected. In the past, many people packed up and moved out west to California because they saw it as the land of opportunity, but recently, this trend has changed as many individuals and businesses have been moving from California down to Texas. This is a relevant point to discuss because this movement has much to do with how California and Texas both taxtheir citizens. Texas prefers a regressive tax system, which taxes citizens by letting the taxes fall as the tax base increases, California implements the opposite method through more progressive taxes. While citizens may prefer Texas s system of limited taxation, this also severely effects what services the government is able to provide to its citizens, which is why I would argue for slightly higher taxes so that Texas can obtain more benefits in the long run. Many citizens have moved to states like Texas and California because they see it as a place of opportunities to find careers or raise families. Despite Texas being the second largest state in America, according to the 2010 Census, its population was lower than that of California. California s total population amounted to 37, 253, 956, meanwhile Texas was only at 25, 145, 561. Consequently, in 2014 the total taxes collected in California were higher than Texas, with California ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Rose Stein Analysis Stein s poetics, especially her tender buttons works, is engrossed with many repetitions. Initially, with prior knowledge, the power of repetition was understood. When imitating Steins, it demonstrated the power of repetition. In tender buttons, however, Stein proses creative poems on simple, domesticated objects such as food. With this repetition in her food pieces, it allows the readers to hear the wordor phrase in different angles. By doing so, the reader then examines the word or phrase in a way that was not originally thought of, shedding a new meaning to the word or phrase. Not only, does the repetition allow for examining new meanings of the word, but also re illuminating a word that has become a clichГ© which is evident in her poem rose . At first glance, the poem seems to have no creativity and seems absurd. When reading the poem, however, it allowed for the reader to hear the phonemic sounds, illuminating the word once again.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout writing experiences, I explored different writing forms and employing different literary devices. While I did use repetition, it was not as obvious or filled the whole prose of the poem, rather it was chosen more carefully and placed strategically. By doing so, it did not allow for room to truly appreciate the art of repetition. Imitating Stein, allowed me to explore different simple subjects as the center of the poem and allowing thoughts and feelings about the subject to flow, rather than exhausting the idea of the subject. Writing in the style of Stein made me explore the beauty of simple objects and not exhausting it and damaging the art of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Ezra Pound Nathan Hubschman Nathan Hubschman Ezra Pound Response: The Tree by Ezra Pound is about how Pound identifies with the tree like state in which the nymph, Daphne, of Greek myth finds herself in order to escape Apollo. Pound begins the poem explaining how he was a tree amid the wood meaning a changed being amid a familiar yet under perceived environment. He likens this form to the myth of Apollo who chases Daphne until she asks the god, Peneus, to change her into a tree. Even though she is transformed into a laurel , which happens to be the Greek word for Daphne, Apollo is still able to recognize her by the inner beauty of the tree before him. He then claims the tree as his own, just as he would if Daphne was still in her nymph ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first and last identical lines are, The eyes of this dead lady speak to me. This repetition makes me believe that he did not know who the lady was, but he feels a haunting connection to her somehow. Pound recognizes a passion in the woman that is so strong, it is conveyed even from a two dimensional image of her. This must have meant that she moves Pound in a way he has experienced before. His desire to feel this emotion again is no less just because she is dead. By repeating the first line at the end of the poem, Pound drives home the strength of his feeling for the woman considering that the entire poem is only four lines in total. The title does not give much away about the poem except that it is about a picture. Nevertheless, it does tell that the picture means something to Pound because he titled it The Picture , not A Picture which would probably be about pictures in general. Ezra Pound reveals his emotional side in this poem and demonstrates his passion and perception of unspoken language. Ezra Pound explains his view on marriage in his poem, The Altar . He says in the first line Let us build here an exquisite friendship. The exquisite friendship is a symbol for marriage and the altar is the place where that marriage begins. He goes on to call it a place of wonder , because it is the place where the everlasting bond is consecrated. The altar is holy ground where God makes two people s love for ... • 9. Classification Classification Essay There are three types of drivers in this world: competent, overcautious, and reckless. After driving for many years in frustrating rush hour traffic, one might find there are three types of drivers, competent drivers who keep the flow going, over cautious drivers who cause slow and backed up traffic, and reckless drivers who weave in and out of traffic causing one near death experience after another. Trying to sort out what type of driver a person might be is an extremely challenging task. A final classification of an overcautious driver would be one who was previously in bad accident. Feeling the mental and financial sting of having to buy a whole new car really puts things into perspective, but hinders them on the road. Now we get into what is known as the reckless driver. A picture comes to mind of a frazzled man or woman driving a beat up Oldsmobile; cigarette dangling from the lip of their mouth, swerving in and out of traffic while others beep their horns in disapproval. This type of driver can occur when a competent driver has had a bad day and is encountering the overly cautious driver. Stereotypically this driver is younger in age and male, but I feel that the reckless driver has no set age or sex. They get so angry for the smallest of reasons that they don t really care what they do as a result, so long as they go out in a blaze of glory. They tend to disregard most driving signs and have no qualms about risking their life or the lives of others. These are the drivers who barely apply the brake when coming to a stop, more like tap tap and go . My uncle Jim is a prime example of a reckless driver. At the age of 82, he drives a boat of a Cadillac, commanding the streets with his led foot and somewhat latent reactions to those around him. Try telling him to ease up or look out, and he s bound to increase the gas flow to his V8 engine. After driving for many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In today s society, racial stereotyping is evident in police brutality cases, the mass media, and in the film industry. Racial stereotyping is still evident today proven by police brutality being justified. Over 20 percent of black unarmed people killed by police are women (Martis 1). • 13. Evolution Of A Large Mammal s Life Cycles Fossils are considered to be evolutionary markers that records a lineages of creatures across time providing a distinct way to compare different species. When Darwin set forth on a journey to the Galapagos Islands, he discovered many aspects of evolution. During his expedition, he discovered the fossils of creatures which closely resembled the modern armadillos. At that time, Darwin did not possess any tools or resources to predict the phylogenetic lineages and the evolutionary history of the armadillos. However, using modern day science and techniques like DNAand protein sequencing, it is now possible to better understand the relationships between different organisms. Furthermore, by observing the early developmental (embryonic) stages of a large mammals life cycles it is possible to indicate the relationship of the mammals with other mammals6. The combination of these methods may lead us to determine the phylogenetic position of armadillos Dasypodidae and other related organisms, such as anteaters and sloths. Armadillos evolutionary history has been a subject of many controversies and has been revised multiple times. Nevertheless, new developments in sequencing have allowed us to better understand the evolutionary relations using the DNA and proteins found in the fossils. By the use of these techniques, we are able to see the points of similarities among different species of armadillos. Furthermore, we can produce a phylogenetic tree to see the divergence of ... • 14. The Fairie Queene Analysis Skill of the Week: Reading for Women in Power Throughout time, Chasity is a virtue of positive connotation but seems to have a fluctuating denotation. In our modern world, the Urban Dictionary website defines chastity as more than just abstinence. It s choosing not to have sex because you recognize the value of your own sexuality. (UrbanDictionary.com). This definition allows for some leeway as it leaves room for possible intercourse as long as it is valued. However, the reputable Oxford Dictionary narrows the meaning to The state or practice of refraining from extramarital, or especially from all, sexual intercourse. (OxfordDictionary.com) This Middle English definition leaves no room for hanky panky. In the Fairie Queene, Edmund Spenser uses three predominate characters to create a Spenserian definition of chastity. In Canto 4, Spencer introduces the character Florimell. At that time, she is being pursued by Arthur and Guyon (3.4.12). Furthermore, in Canto 5, more drama arises when Arthur learns that Florimell is searching for her beloved Marinell (3.5.2). Florimell is noted as the most beautiful female character in the epic and spends much of her time running away from almost all of the male characters within the poem because they are in love with her. She relies on her ability to flee from men with lustful intentions. This character shows how Spenser defines chastity as purity and innocence as Florimell flees from temptation instead of taking it on like a modern day ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Linkert Scale Survey Likert survey scale was invented by Rensis Likert, who was first to apply this approach in surveys to check attitudes. The main advantage of his method is that it requires less time to develop and is easier to adopt than the previously used survey methods. Moreover, the Linkert s approach does not require the use of negative wording points, which is why Linkert scalesurvey has been used so much. Likert Scaling is a undimensional scaling method. As in all scaling methods, the first step is to define what it is you are trying to measure. (Trochim, 2006) Questionnaire items are simple statements that the subject should be evaluated based on their personal views. Commonly used five gradations, such as: 1.Strongly disagree 2.Disagree 3.Neither agree or disagree 4.Agree 5.Totally agree. Statements wordings that are selected depend on the objectives of the researcher, the wording of the response may also vary, for example from frequent to never go out or always buy never buy. The number of grades can also be different (from three to nine). Selection of questions in the survey scale compiled into a pilot study. To do this, create an initial list of questions, which are offered to pilot survey takers from the chosen group of representatives (team members), they will test each question for appropriateness. Approvals must be consistent from each pilot test survey taker. Some questions will have to be taken off from the survey before the final survey is done. When ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Reflection On PARCC Test The testing process was a general meeting with the staff who are qualified to administer the PARCC exam. The principal ran through a state provided PowerPoint and provided the schedule that works well for the school. The principal explained the security measures as well as who to contact in case of emergencies or problems. There was also another meeting for the staff that could not attend the original. All staff members who were involved with PARCC testing had to sign a paper acknowledging that they attended the training. I was able to work with the secretary and principal to coordinate testing times. I also served as a testadministrator and shadowed the principal. In regards to the NJ ASK, there were multiple security components that had to be in order. First off, the tests had to be checked in by two people; the principal and the counselor who is also in charge of testing. The boxes of tests are then delivered to the testing closet where they are counted and checked in their designated area. This closet is locked all the time and only the principal has keys to it. The teachers were responsible to come to the testing closet to collect their materials. The principal was responsible to make sure that staff members sign out their bins and that all their materials are in the bin. Reflection As I reflect on state standardized test, I realize that budgeting extra time is always necessary. While all PARCC tests have enough time, there was a day where one 8th grade class started late and had technology issues. This caused a delay in lunches being served to the students. There was also another issue with the technology in general. Many computers did not load the tests as there was a JAVA update that needed to take place. There was also the issue with having the tests spread out over 7 days and the whole school testing window over a month. The vision is to have the students test on mine net books and I pads. While many schools do go that approach, I find that we would have to teach our students how to use these tools first prior to the test. This would take always instructional time. While we have ample computer labs to accommodate 6 classes at one time, it would cause a hardship on the schedule. I would prefer to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Summary Of Attachment Theory Article Summary Anne Merrill and Tamara Afifi (2015) examine how attachment theory emotionally and cognitively interacts with various secret keeping instances (Merrill, Afifi, 2015, p. 259). Research has shown that secrecy has harmful affects such as, anxiety and stress (Merrill, Afifi, 2015, pp. 259 260). However the level to which these individuals ponder, or ruminate, about the secret varies from person to person (Merrill, Afifi, 2015, p. 259). Theoretically, these researchers utilize the preoccupation models of secrecy to explain why secrecy negatively affects a person s well being (Merrill, Afifi, 2015, p. 260). Research states, individuals in a romantic relationship are likely to experience cognitive tension due to thought suppression and intrusive thoughts (rumination), which continually repeat in efforts to maintain secrecy (Merrill, Afifi, 2015, pp. 260 261). Attachment theory states, those individuals who are securely attached (low anxiety and avoidance) are less likely to keep secrets from their partner because they are more trusting (Merrill, Afifi, 2015, 2015, p. 261). This assessment is reflected in my Clinical LeadershipSurvey as a deficit in the leadership practice of Encouraging the Heart. This practice includes behaviors such as recognizing contributions, celebrating accomplishments, and providing feedback (Patrick, Laschinger, Finegan, and Wong, 2011). The results of my baseline survey support the theory that my weakness is in interprofessional communication. There have been three policing eras in the United States and they were the Political Era, the Reform Era, and the Community Policing Era. The Community Policing Era is the form that is presently used in the United States. Approximately 350 years ago, the first law enforcementsystem was started in Boston. These were the early days of American law enforcement. When the colonist settled there in 1630 they appointed constables. Constables were like a sheriff and in 1631 they appointed watchman an a few volunteers. They made sure that the streets were safe, reported fires and apprehended and arrested anyone violating the law. The early policing era was based off the English structure. One such idea was Psychoanalysis, propagated by Dr. Sigmund Freud. Though a psychoanalytical interpretation can be applied to any novel after the fact, I believe Huxley used elements of the approach in the creation of his characters and plot. In this novel Huxley presents a dystopic society in which various scientific and psychological techniques are used to control people from their conception to their death. As a result the ego is diminished and people do not have to cope with conflicting emotions. This seems to create stability in society, or at least passivity. The п¬Ѓrst part of the paper deп¬Ѓnes a framework for the formulation and analysis of feasible point active set methods for QP. This reformulation gives the primal dual search pair as the solution of a KKT system formed from the QP Hessian and the working set constraint gradients. It is shown that, under certain circumstances, the solution of this KKT system may be updated using a simple recurrence relation, thereby giving a signiп¬Ѓcant reduction in the number of KKT systems that need to be solved. The linear constraints of a QP may include an arbitrary mixture of equality and inequality constraints, where the inequality constraints may be subject to lower and/or upper bounds. Many mathematically equivalent formulations of the constraints are possible, and the choice of formulation often depends on the context. We consider the generic quadratic program minimize n xв€€R 1 П•(x) = cTx + 2 xTHx subject to Ax = b, Dx в‰ Ґ f, (1.1) where A, b, c, D, f and H are constant, H is symmetric, A is m Г— n, and D is mD Г— n. (In order to simplify the notation, it is assumed that the inequalities involve only lower bounds.) However, the methods to be described can be generalized to treat all forms of linear constraints. No assumptions are made about H (other than symmetry), which implies that the objective П•(x) need not be convex. In the nonconvex case, however, convergence will be to local minimizers only. While the theme of love triangles are a relatively common and well understood among literature, plays, and movies, King s version of a lovetriangle in the novelis somewhat unconventional. The protagonist of the novel, Christine, is not a human character but a 1958 Plymouth Fury possessed by vengeful spirits of the LeBay family. King characterized Christine as a female that Arnie loves very dearly. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... King introduces the theme of love and love triangle before introducing Christine, effectively avoiding confusion to the readers. The first sentence in the prologue states that the novel is ...a story about a love triangle (King 1), clearly stating to the readers that this is one of the main themes of the novel. Dennis, who is the narrator of the quote, also describes Christine as Arnie s first and only true love (King 1). Further solidifying the importance of the theme love triangles within the novel. This makes it easier for the reader to accept the fact that Christine is part of the love triangle as a person rather than a car. To prove a love triangle existed since the beginning of the novel, King begins with Arnie and Dennis s first encounter of Christine. With the prologue s setting of the theme in the minds of the readers, King then introduces a female character to the story. While Dennis was driving, Arnie said, go back, I want to look at her again (King 7). By addressing the car as a female, Arnie acknowledges that the car is not seen as a car but rather an actual person. His view of Christine as a woman instead of an inanimate object adds to the love triangle because one character see s the car as a person, who can be added into the love triangle. Within the prologue, love is shown between Arnie and Christine the car. King writes, Arnie had fallen in love with a 1958 Plymouth Fury... (King 7). This quote shows Arnie has fallen for Christine head over heels. This is yet another sign of an existing love triangle within the book. These elements in the introduction that personify Christine are what make the love triangle so effective for the reader. For instance, a child born in poverty is more likely to have a lower birth weight than his or her counterparts. Low birth rate is a contributing factor in infant mortality within the first year of the child s life. Additionally, children born in poverty have lower IQ test scores and have less school achievements when compared to their counterparts. Because poverty impacts cognitive development more than physical, it is likely, that poverty will persist through subsequent generations. Further, nutrition, or the lack of, is one factor that contributes to the development of a child. One study suggests that children in poverty are twenty two times more likely to suffer from maltreatment than those children not in poverty. The poverty rate in comparison state is twenty two percent, which is the second highest in the country and equal to the national rate of children living in poverty. Children born into poverty, on average, live in poverty until he or she is eight years old. Therefore, it is important to provide services to people living in poverty to help them understand their situation and provide them with the resources necessary to break the poverty cycle. One ... The Causes Of Witchcraft Hysteria In The Salem Witch Trials In 1692, the British colony of Massachusetts endured abnormal accusations of witchcraft against more than 150 people (Prentice Hall Literature, p. 1087). Many factors caused the witchcraft hysteria to come alive during the 1600 s. Two important factors were: Daemonologie, written by England s King James I, and the bewildering behavior of the accusing teenage girls. While Arthur Miller explains that the accusations could have been made over the lust for land, there are also reasons not explained: how the role of women and children during the 17th century may have affected their behavior and the theory of Ergot fungus poisoning the girls minds. While Arthur Miller does touch on the subject of the witch trials bringing about opportunities for revenge against disliked neighbors or enemies, he does not mention the role of women and children during this time period. In the 17th century, as well as centuries before and after, the role of women was to serve their husband and fill his desires: bearing a child, meeting his sexual desires, keeping a clean household, and serving her family food. She was not to be seen as an equal to her husband or any other man, and rarely ever talked to her husband about matters involving business, religion, or important decisions ( Salem Witch Trials History Channel. When they do make claims of being scientific, this becomes known as pseudoscience. Even so, it is useful to recognize the distinctions, as science doesn t always clearly do so. For the boundary between scienceand religion, a majority of the cases can be separated well through the verificationistic view. While empirical matters are primarily dealt with science, spiritual matters are primarily dealt with religion because they cannot be objectively and empirically observed. When distinguishing science from non science, it s easiest to start by defining the fundamentals that make up what science is, and then define all of the fields that fall outside this definition as non science. At it core, science is a system of acquiring knowledge about the physical world through objective experimentation and observation. Therefore, fields that do not involve the acquisition of knowledge, such as art and business, can be classified as being non science. Moreover, mathematics is a field considered to be non science because doesn t acquire knowledge about the physical world. The field of engineering proves to be an interesting case. While engineers practically apply scientific knowledge, the field as a whole is non scientific. Now we come to the most complicated division between science and ... Impact of OPEC s Oil Pricing on the Petroleum Market Energy resources are essential for national security, technological development, overall contemporary life style, etc. In this respect, oil is the main source for worldwide economy. Peak oil would imbalance countries economical situations and may lead to a chain reaction with negative effects on multiple layers. Evidently, there is mutual interest to prevent such a thing from happening but the possibility is nevertheless considered. OPECs initial goal to ensure stable prices on petroleummarkets in order to avoid any negative fluctuations did not always correspond. The organization actually favored inflation more than in one occasion but its influence in controlling oil prices dropped considerably since 1973. It was proven that, having quadrupled the price of oil, OPEC had in its hands the power to inflict economic hurt on the rich countries. (Beenstock 2007, p. 134) Although OPEC does not completely control the oil market today, it nevertheless continues to be influent because its decisions to reduce production may lead to either a decrease or increase of oil prices. OPEC s existence is dependent on the future of oil. Whether or not oil will dominate as the main energetic source for worldwide economy will decide its future. Considering that OPEC s oil has been a vital source of energy during the last half of century, (Khusanjanova 2011, p. 19) and that oil is expected to play a similar role within the next century, we can assume the organization will at least maintain its ... Since there are several planets in the Milky Way that have plate tectonics, it is questionable about if size is a key factor in the likelihood of tectonics on foreign planets. Vol canoes, mountains, ocean ridges, earthquakes, and tsunamis all would not be possible without the movement of the Earths tectonic plates. Dependent upon heat for movement, tectonic plates are one of the victims of Earth s active life. Since the Earth is not static in movement, landforms are moved and shifted slowly but surely each day. It is questionable if hydration and planetsize are significant factors in the likelihood of plate tectonicson super Earths. Tectonism is the moving and deformity of the exterior layer of a planet caused by heat loss. The constant movement of molten lava in the planet s interior causes plate tectonics, and some planets in modernity still have active tectonics, such as Earth, Mars, and Venus. It may seem, too, at first glance, that Dee s mother and sister, Maggie, in their tin roof house and shabby clothing, are of little or no worth in Everyday Use. The story ironically shows, under more careful thought, that the very outer characteristics which deem Dee the more valuable character are the ones which prove that the mother and Maggie have the more powerful inner worth. With close examination, the camera, which represents Dee s material wealth, can also be used to prove her inability to see people, places and things for what and who they really are. By far the most striking piece of evidence supporting Dee s lack of inner value is her desire to have the quilts. At first, Dee s anger over being denied the quilts seems justified. Dee claims that she would preserve the quilts and Hang them (1154). Yet, the real purpose of possessing the quilts, as seen on a larger scope, is to use the old quilts for the simple life the mother and Maggie lead. To actually put the quilts to everyday use, as Maggie will do, is symbolically preserving the family heritage. Dee s cry that Maggie would probably be backward enough to put them to everyday use (1154) portrays Dee as the materialistic, backward character. Just as the argument over the quilts shows Dee as intrinsically immature, it directly points out that the mother and Dee have, in fact, great value within them. Dee s mother, for instance, is at first silent to Dee s demands to have the butter churn and wooden benches. When Dee takes the quilts, previously promised to Maggie, the mother then becomes defensive. The mother questions Dee s intended use of the quilts in an effort to deter Dee from her insistence of owning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Nietzsche, A Critic Of Religion Nietzsche is widely known as a critic of religion. In fact, he talks in depth about morality in regards to religion in his essays about the genealogy of morals. But the problem is not within religion itself or within morals. The problem is involved in the combination of the two to create society s understanding of moralitythrough a very religious lens. In fact, Nietzsche has criticism for almost any set of morals constructed by a group of individuals and meant to be applied to society as a whole. True morality, according to Nietzsche, requires a separation from these group dynamic views of morality or at least a sincere look into where they originated and why they persist and a movement towards a more introverted, and intrinsically personalized understanding of what morals mean in spite of the fact that the normative force to which every member of society is exposed, in the form of obligations, codes of behavior, and other moral rules and guidelines, is disproportionally high (Korfmacher 6). As Nietzsche points out, within society there is a tendency to conflate religious standards with morality. In fact, it is difficult to discuss morality at all without running into issues that appear to be religious by their nature, but which, upon reflection, do not need to be put under that blanket. According to Nietzsche, we tend to mix religionand morality together because that is how we developed morality from the beginning of humanity. In fact, Nietzsche believes that all ... Cooking Tip #1: Make One Trip to the Trashcan Running back and forth to the trashcan is aggravating (as well as inefficient). You can make only one trip by lining a colander, sink strainer, small trash can, or other wide mouthed receptacle with a plastic shopping bag and keeping it next to your cutting board. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Limiting the use of our utilities is not only beneficial to our budget but also to the environment as well. Here are several useful and lesser known tips in conserving energy while you are in the kitchen. While being in the kitchen, the stove is one of the main items that will use up the most energy, so it is important to be wise with your energy consumption when cookingon it. Adjust the burners when using a gas based cooking top so that the flames just barely touch or are a tad lower than the bottom of the pans you are cooking on. Flames that curl around a pan waste more energy. However, if you are using an electric cook top, put the pan on a coil that is similar in size. Place the pan so that its bottom lies absolutely flat on the burner. This will conserve a great deal of energy. Also, when using an electric stove, set the burners on high first and then proceed to lower it to finish the cooking. For dishes that aren t pans, turn off the burner completely at the end as the element will hold the heat for several minutes. In addition to your stoves, the oven vent on an electrical range can be very useful. If you are using an oven vent on an electrical range, you will find that the vent is under one of the burners. While the oven is in use, you will be able to feel the hot air flowing through the vent. For dishes that you would like to warm, set them on that burner. This will minimize the use of a microwave and will also optimize the use of your burners. Now, for dishes that need to cook for long periods of time, particularly over an hour, there is no need to preheat your oven (unless you are cooking a turkey that needs a crisp skin). For dishes that must be cooked just under an hour, extend the cooking time for a little bit. The only preheating that is required is for dishes that have a short baking time.
