Biography: Brandon Moore is a solutions architect for Nationstar Mortgage LLC. He has 20 years experience as a software engineer and is currently the lead architect for a new reverse mortgage platform. He is also an Information Science PhD student at the University of North Texas. His research interests are text analytics and data mining.

Biography: Jungwon Yoon is a research fellow at Soongsil University in South Korea. She received her Ph.D. in Sociology of Technology and Science from Georgia Institute of Technology, USA. Her areas of expertise are in science and technology studies (STS), including science & technology policy, sociology of sciences, innovation studies, and technology management. Her current research focuses on dynamics of innovation systems in both South and North Korea. Her latest publications include "Triple helix dynamics of South Koreaโs innovation system: a network analysis of inter-regional technological collaborations" and "Quintuple helix structure of Sino-Korean research collaboration in science."

ABSTRACT
This paper presents a webometric analysis of the academic search
engine result pages (SERPs) of the Chinese-language term of
โWikipediaโ across major Chinese-speaking regions of mainland
China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Because of the academic
outcome, the findings can also be interpreted for further metaanalysis,
or โresearch about researchโ, of the Wikipedia research
in Chinese-language literatures. The findings cover the results
from four major search platforms: CNKI Scholar, Google Scholar
China, Google Scholar Hong Kong and Google Scholar Taiwan.
Cross tabulation of the results shows the major institutions
(journals and academic departments) and scholarly archives for
Chinese-language Wikipedia research. The findings suggest that
there exists a divide between mainland Chinese academic
sources/search results on one hand, and Hong Kong/Taiwanese
ones on the other. Meta-analysis based on academic SERPs have
implications for identifying the gaps and potentials in
internationalization of Wikipedia research.

ABSTRACT
This paper presents a case study of information engagement based on microblog posts gathered from Sina Weibo and Twitter that mentioned the two major Chinese-language user-generated encyclopaedias. The content analysis shows that microblog users not only engaged in public discussions by using and citing both encyclopaedias, but also shared their perceptions and experiences more generally with various online platforms and Chinaโs filtering/censorship regime to which user-generated content and activities are subjected. This exploratory study thus raises several research and practice questions on the links between public discussions and information engagement on user-generated platforms.

Prior empirical and theoretical work has discussed the role of dominant search engine plays in the function of information gatekeeping on the Web, and there are reports on the high ranking of Wikipedia website among the search engine result pages (SERP). However, little research has been conducted on non-Google search engines and non-English versions of user-generated encyclopedias. This paper proposes a method to quantify the โdisplayโ gatekeeping differences of the SERP ranking and presents findings based on the Chinese SERP data. Based on 2,500 mainly-Chinese-language search queries, the data set includes the SERP outcome of four Chinese-speaking regions (mainland China, Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan) provided by three major search engines (Baidu, and Google and Yahoo), covering over 97% of the search engine market in each region. The findings, analysed and visualized using network analysis techniques, demonstrate the followings: major user-generated encyclopedias are among the most visible; localization factors matter (certain search engine variants produce the most divergent outcomes, especially mainland Chinese ones). The indicated strong effects of โnetwork gatekeepingโ by search engines also suggest similar dynamics inside user-generated encyclopedias.
9th triplehelix: Web visibility on political innovation system
This study examines whether the network characteristics represented on the Internet drive or reflect other events and occurrences in the offline environment. More specifically, the purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between the web visibility network of Koreaโs National Assembly members and the amount of financial donations they receive from the public. The results of the linear correlation analysis indicate a positive direction, suggesting that politicians who occupy a central position in the web visibility network are more likely receive financial donations than those occupying a peripheral position. The QAP correlation results reveal a significant correlation between politiciansโ web visibility network and their political finance network. This study identifies the structural power relationship between Korean politiciansโ online and offline networks.

Abstract:
In a technological society such as Canada, it is suggested that a specialized kind of expert citizenship is needed (Andrew Feenberg). In theย era ofย big data, others suggest that there is a need to learn how to read algorithms and to study its high priests and alchemists (Genevieve Bell). While,ย doing citizenshipย requires a political ethics of technology to thwart technological and quantitative fundamentalism (Darin Barney). Finally, in the midst of a data revolution we need to critically re-conceptualize data (Rob Kitchin). Quite simply, in today's Canada doing citizenship requires data literacy, technical, philosophical and political. Access to print media - books, government documents, academic journals - in libraries and archives enabled a literate society, the prerequisite of a democratic system. I argue that good governance in knowledge producing institutions, is to have technological experts, both data creators and preservers, working to store, manage, disseminate and preserve data so that we have the requisite artifacts to increase our literacy and build upon collected knowledge.ย Data literacy I suggest, is indispensable in the current democratic system, and that requires having access to data, data infrastructures - knowledge and technology - and dedicated skilled people and resources to sustainably care for them. I consider research data management to be our duty.

Prior empirical and theoretical work has discussed the role of dominant search engine plays in the function of information gatekeeping on the Web, and there are reports on the high ranking of Wikipedia website among the search engine result pages (SERP). However, little research has been conducted on non-Google search engines and non-English versions of user-generated encyclopedias. This paper proposes a method to quantify the โdisplayโ gatekeeping differences of the SERP ranking and presents findings based on the Chinese SERP data. Based on 2,500 mainly-Chinese-language search queries, the data set includes the SERP outcome of four Chinese-speaking regions (mainland China, Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan) provided by three major search engines (Baidu, and Google and Yahoo), covering over 97% of the search engine market in each region. The findings, analysed and visualized using network analysis techniques, demonstrate the followings: major user-generated encyclopedias are among the most visible; localization factors matter (certain search engine variants produce the most divergent outcomes, especially mainland Chinese ones). The indicated strong effects of โnetwork gatekeepingโ by search engines also suggest similar dynamics inside user-generated encyclopedias.
9th triplehelix: Web visibility on political innovation system
This study examines whether the network characteristics represented on the Internet drive or reflect other events and occurrences in the offline environment. More specifically, the purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between the web visibility network of Koreaโs National Assembly members and the amount of financial donations they receive from the public. The results of the linear correlation analysis indicate a positive direction, suggesting that politicians who occupy a central position in the web visibility network are more likely receive financial donations than those occupying a peripheral position. The QAP correlation results reveal a significant correlation between politiciansโ web visibility network and their political finance network. This study identifies the structural power relationship between Korean politiciansโ online and offline networks.

Abstract:
In a technological society such as Canada, it is suggested that a specialized kind of expert citizenship is needed (Andrew Feenberg). In theย era ofย big data, others suggest that there is a need to learn how to read algorithms and to study its high priests and alchemists (Genevieve Bell). While,ย doing citizenshipย requires a political ethics of technology to thwart technological and quantitative fundamentalism (Darin Barney). Finally, in the midst of a data revolution we need to critically re-conceptualize data (Rob Kitchin). Quite simply, in today's Canada doing citizenship requires data literacy, technical, philosophical and political. Access to print media - books, government documents, academic journals - in libraries and archives enabled a literate society, the prerequisite of a democratic system. I argue that good governance in knowledge producing institutions, is to have technological experts, both data creators and preservers, working to store, manage, disseminate and preserve data so that we have the requisite artifacts to increase our literacy and build upon collected knowledge.ย Data literacy I suggest, is indispensable in the current democratic system, and that requires having access to data, data infrastructures - knowledge and technology - and dedicated skilled people and resources to sustainably care for them. I consider research data management to be our duty.

The study analysed the awareness and usage of the internet among 124 Students and
research scholars of Alagappa University. A well-structured questionnaire was used for data
collection and MS Excel software was used for analysing the data. The study revealed that
majority of the respondents are female 93(75%) and 65(52.4 %) of respondents are PG
students. research scholars and fewer respondents from Staff. Most of respondents
120(96.8%) using the Internet, Further the study found that 53(42.7%) of using Department
in the University. 43(34.7%) of respondents use the University library. Most of the
respondents 35(28.2%) of used the library monthly, 24(19.3%) of respondents use the library
once in a fortnight. Most of the respondents 86(69.3%) of the respondents use the Google
chrome; 20(16.1%) of the respondents use the Mozilla Firefox. 107(86.3%) of the
respondents using database, The study found that 36(29%) of respondents using internet to
Update knowledge and 27(21.7%) of respondents use it study purpose; 44(40%) of
respondents used to store and share information in online resource using Google drive,
93(75%) of respondents used UGC-info net database/journal. 42(33.8%) of the respondents
facing the problem not finding relevant information, followed by 36(29%) of respondents
Software/ hardware problem, Efficiency of visiting internet 47(37.9%) of respondent use
Enhanced proficiency in writing; 35(28.2%) of respondent used Increasing the number of
publication, 66(53.2%) of the respondent of using satisfied; 44(35.5%) of the respondent of

Another Interdisciplinary Transformation: Beyond an Area-studies Journal
Journal of Contemporary Eastern Asia (ISSN 2383-9449) is a refereed biannual journal that takes a lead on a new scholarship in Asia. In the past, the JCEA was dedicated to the study of current political, social and economic trends in East and Southeast Asia. But now, the JCEA finds unique aspects of Asian scholarship by expanding its scope to (socio-technical) convergence and future (network) studies. The JCEA editors are working very hard to boost the scholarly presence of new Asian scholarship around the world and secure its reputation as an emerging world-class publishing outlet. The editors welcome manuscripts based on original research or significant reexamination of existing literature.
