Australia may need a pipeline repair club to be prepared for underwater pipeline emergencies, like those that exist in other regions. Pipeline repair clubs in the Gulf of Mexico and Mediterranean Sea provide 24/7 emergency response capabilities to repair pipelines up to depths of 10,000 feet. The North Sea pipeline repair system allows fast repairs through a large pool of shared equipment. Without such a system, pipeline failures could result in environmental damage and economic losses from stopped production. Preparing repair capabilities in advance with the right equipment, personnel, and coordination between companies would help ensure Australia is ready to respond effectively to any unexpected pipeline issues.
