Document capture software refers to applications that automate the scanning of paper documents. It captures documents via MFDs, desktop scanning, watch folders, email/FTP, and converts them to searchable digital formats through image enhancement and data extraction. It then stores and indexes the documents in document management systems, file servers or cloud storage according to configured workflows. These workflows use metadata, barcodes and OCR to dynamically route, process, file and distribute documents for different purposes such as invoice processing or records archiving.
