As we prove ourselves to be hard-working and competent people, we get more and more responsibilities and opportunities. The same thing happens with companies getting more and more demand for their services.
The problems arise when, at some point in time, we are forced by the limits of our time and resources to give up on something. Either we decide what that will be, or our circumstances will decide for us.
That is why companies have entire teams of people working to evaluate opportunities and demands coming their way, and politely but firmly saying “No” to those that don’t fit their big picture.
The goal of this presentation is to help you do the same!

Willingness to Listen
Relationships are based on reciprocity.
This is obvious to most business people,
but what is the ratio of your giving and taking?
Does it appear to the other person that you talk and never listen
In a good relationship, there's always a dialog
You should always strive to listen more than you talk.

For its baseline budget projections, CBO estimates the revenue effects of enacted legislation that changed the amount of funding for tax enforcement. Similarly, CBO’s annual analysis of the President’s budget includes its estimates of the revenue effects of the Administration’s proposals to change such funding. (But CBO does not estimate the changes in revenue from proposals to amend the tax code; those estimates are the responsibility of the staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation.)
However, for legislation being considered by the Congress, CBO does not include projections of additional receipts from proposed increases in funding for tax enforcement in its estimates of the budgetary effects that are used for budget enforcement purposes. That approach follows the budget scorekeeping guidelines specified in the conference report for the Balanced Budget Act of 1997.
These slides describe the circumstances under which CBO estimates the revenue effects of changes in funding for tax enforcement and the factors that affect those estimates. They were the basis for a presentation by Janet Holtzblatt, a unit chief in CBO's Tax Analysis Division, at the sixth annual Internal Revenue Service-Tax Policy Center Joint Research Conference on Tax Administration.

HELPER SELF-CHALLENGE
Inviting our clients to challenge themselves is a deeply personal and difficult process. Invitations should be framed within a caring, genuine, and empathetic therapeutic relationship. Further, inviting clients to self-challenge can be enhanced by fully understanding clients’ experiences, promoting responsibility, and focusing on outcomes. The following exercises are aimed at enhancing your ability to invite clients to self-challenge. You need to challenge yourself before inviting others to challenge themselves. Read “The Guidelines for Effective Invitations to Self-Challenge” before doing these exercises. EXERCISE 7.1: EARNING THE RIGHT TO INVITE CLIENTS TO CHALLENGE THEMSELVES One of the principal ways you put yourself in the position of inviting clients to challenge themselves is developing and maintaining a decent collaborative relationship with the client. Reread what is said about an effective therapeutic relationship in Chapters 1 and 2 and earning the right to invite clients to challenge themselves in Chapter 7. Then evaluate how effective you have been in developing your relationship skills. 1. What have you done both inside the training group and outside to become better at building relationships? ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ 2. What about you gives you the “right” to invite clients to challenge themselves? ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ 3. Share what you have written with a learning partner. Try to find one who knows you well. See if you get any new insights from this discussion. EXERCISE 7.2: INVITATIONS TO SELF-CHALLENGE THAT PROVIDE “CHOICE STRUCTURE” Reread the parts of Chapters 5 and 7 dealing with nudging, choice structure, and decision making. When clients face difficult decisions, your job is to help them face up to these decisions. How you provide
“choice structure” and “nudge” them toward life-enhancing decisions is critical. The following cases involve, directly or indirectly, invitations to self-challenge. Evaluate them by discussing your reactions with a learning partner. Case 1. This client is in dire financial straits. He has been discussing the possibility of filing for bankrup.

The term “startup” has been around for over a decade. It is usually used to describe a struggling young ventures or big tech companies - the so called unicorns and even the hip San Francisco apps and huge tech companies. But how do we actually define a startup?
According to Neil Blumenthal, co-founder and co-CEO of Warby Parker, “A startup is a company working to solve a problem where the solution is not obvious and success is not guaranteed”. So why do so many people decide to start or invest in one. Well, the answer is simple - tech industry. One of the rare industries that keeps moving forward at lightning speed. The most successful startups so far have actually been tech startups, unique website or app ideas that make our everyday life easier, and to think that just a few years ago they all started as a simple idea in some young entrepreneur's head.
The startup industry has evolved so much that it now has its own language - a set of terms and expressions that helps define different aspects of this quite complex market.
Terms like accelerators and incubators are used to define collaborative programs, specially designed to provide different types of help to the newly formed ventures. For example, 39% of startups reported that being in an incubator provided them access to investors that were previously unavailable to them.
Each startup needs a lead investor, the person or company that is willing to be the first to invest money in an emerging startup. However, that same investor will be very interested in the prospects of his ROI - a return of investment.
A young startup also mustn't forget how important market research is when deciding which new and unique product or service they want to provide to their customers. Using surveys, focus groups and field trials are all valid tactics for testing the market before launching a startup.
You will find that all these terms and many more are a part of everyday conversations among both well-established and up-and-coming entrepreneurs in the startup industry. And if you want to find out more, you can always go through our handy ABC of Startups slideshow below and brush up on the most important vocabulary needed for succeeding in the ever growing and changing world of startups.
「INFOGRAPHIC」 The Great 21st Century North American War: Unicorns vs Narwhalsdomain .ME
“Second star to the right and straight on till morning” was once the only route to a magical place where fairies, mermaids, and other mythical beings could be found. However, we no longer need pixie dust to help us fly high above the skies. There are fairy-tale creatures running among us. Are we in Neverland? No, we are in the Unicorn era.
How come? Well, every tech startup company spawned after the great tech wreck of 2000 and 2001 that managed to reach $1 billion was said to ‘grow a horn’. The very term Unicorn Club was coined in 2013 by Aileen Lee when he introduced us to the concept.
It takes approximately 6 years and at least $95 million in funding for a tech startup to become a unicorn. If we look back on the last 15 years, the period between 2007 and 2009 showed to be the most fertile for starting a unicorn. This is supported by the fact that some of the most successful companies of today, Uber, Pinterest, Slack, Nutanix and many others, were founded right after the great economic collapse of 2008.
The average age of the mighty unicorn rider is 29 and the majority of them already had a vast experience working in tech companies. Although young, more than 70% have already founded a company prior to the one that reached stellar, 1-billion-dollar success.
However, many Millennials choose to ride down this track with a reliable partner. Whether it is the fear of the unknown or higher venture capital, 85% of young businessmen with a mutual history decide to continue in the same manner.
If you think that we are talking about only a small herd, you are in for a surprise as we can count more than 200 unicorns worldwide. Around 65% are headquartered in the US, with California being the leading habitat, as 39% of all US unicorns run around the Silicon Valley.
When it comes to Canadian tech startups, although they account for no more than 2% of all world unicorns, they are certainly a force to be reckoned with. The success of the Canadian 1-billion-dollar companies was recognized worldwide and in time they became a separate species. They were named after an animal that actually swims in those frigid northern waters – Narwhals.
Renamed by Brent Holiday, the CEO of Garibaldi Capital Advisors, Narwhal club includes startups that were launched as far back as 1999. Although there are only three narwhals ready to parry the herds of US unicorns, a significant number of them are expected to break the ice, such as Desire2Learn, iQmetrix, Wattpad and many others.
Who is currently at the very top of the North American billion-dollar ladder? Which narwhals dare to swim faster than the galloping unicorns? Scroll down to our infographic and see for yourself.
Infographic: DC vs Marvel – The Battle of Brandsdomain .ME
Generations of comic book fans have argued over which superhero would come out on top in the ultimate superhero battle between DC and Marvel universe. That is one argument that we cannot resolve, but what we offer instead is a look at the battle of the brands, and seeing who is currently winning the everlasting war.
Looking back at the very beginning, DC has dominated the comic book world from the 1930s to 1960s. Slowly but surely Marvel has taken over the lead, currently holding around 47% of the total comic book market, while DC commands around 27%.
Both companies have branched out their brands into movies. With DC again paving the path with its 1966 Batman the Movie. Marvel followed 20 years later with 1986’s Howard the Duck. The new millennium saw a significant increase in interest for superhero movies and Marvel was yet again able to surpass DC, having the 3rd biggest box office hit of all-times with The Avengers franchise, while DC had the 7th biggest with The Dark Knight Rises.
The video gaming world was the next natural step for both franchisees. With yet again DC pioneering the genre with Supermen in 1979 and Marvel following shortly after with Spider-Man in 1982. DC has held the lead in this industry so far with Batman: Arkham Knight selling over 5 million copies in 2015, while Marvel’s last release The Amazing Spider-Man 2 scored only 52/100 on Metacritic.
With the arrival of the digital era, both brands moved their battlefield from newsstands to the digital marketing arena. So far Marvel has been a clear winner, generating 3.9 million in organic keyword search, in comparison to DC’s 1 million. In the social media ring, Marvel still keeps knocking DC out with a Twitter following of over 3 million, while DC was able to generate around 1.5 million followers so far. On Facebook there is no contest, Marvel’s 21 million likes pulverizes DC’s 3 million.
We will definitely keep an eye on this ongoing battle of the brands and its possible future developments. But for now, have a look at our Battle of the Brands infographic and choose for yourself which brand, Marvel or DC, is the safest bet.
Infographic: Millennials vs Boomers at Work – Generational Showdowndomain .ME
Owing to the fact that people nowadays live longer and retire at a more advanced age, we are slowly but surely entering the period of heterogeneous offices in terms of age differences among workers. According to the 2015 statistics, Millennials and Baby Boomers represent the majority of USA workforce and are bound to be working side by side for many years to come.
Nevertheless, problems can occur in the working environment because of their behavioral differences. They can have a negative influence on the quality of the employee collaboration and ultimately cause lowering overall productivity levels. On the other hand, many claim that working in such environment can be quite beneficial, as diverse working attitudes do not necessarily have to imply conflict. By working in heterogeneous offices, employees are provided with an opportunity to complete one another.
To get the clearer picture of just how diverse the attitudes of Boomers and Millennials are when it comes to their work life, take a sneak peek at our infographic below. :)

Do You Know Why Achieving Work/Life Balance is so Hard? We Do! [Survey Results]domain .ME
Being active, engaged and successful is not an easy task. From the moment we open our eyes, until we fall asleep exhausted at night, we seem to confront a never-ending list of urgent tasks: taking out the trash, preparing lunch for our family, rushing to business meetings, checking our email on the fly.
And even when we should be relaxing, we are not. As true representatives of multitasking society we are watching a movie and thinking about what we have left unfinished at work; getting our nails done and nervously tapping our feet, in a constant hurry by default. Ironically, it’s precisely this downtime – most often called ME time – that helps us recharge and face all our responsibilities.
As .ME crew is made of experienced professionals who know all about the challenges of achieving work/life balance, we came to an idea of starting a ME Day movement – a day when we will make time to celebrate our achievements, embrace our uniqueness and put ourselves first. With that in mind, we conducted an informal ME Day Survey that included 753 respondents from the USA. We wanted to see how much time people devote to themselves, to ensure their physical, mental and spiritual well-being!

The case study discusses the potential of drone delivery and the challenges that need to be addressed before it becomes widespread.
Key takeaways:
Drone delivery is in its early stages: Amazon's trial in the UK demonstrates the potential for faster deliveries, but it's still limited by regulations and technology.
Regulations are a major hurdle: Safety concerns around drone collisions with airplanes and people have led to restrictions on flight height and location.
Other challenges exist: Who will use drone delivery the most? Is it cost-effective compared to traditional delivery trucks?
Discussion questions:
Managerial challenges: Integrating drones requires planning for new infrastructure, training staff, and navigating regulations. There are also marketing and recruitment considerations specific to this technology.
External forces vary by country: Regulations, consumer acceptance, and infrastructure all differ between countries.
Demographics matter: Younger generations might be more receptive to drone delivery, while older populations might have concerns.
Stakeholders for Amazon: Customers, regulators, aviation authorities, and competitors are all stakeholders. Regulators likely hold the greatest influence as they determine the feasibility of drone delivery.
Artificial intelligence (AI) offers new opportunities to radically reinvent the way we do business. This study explores how CEOs and top decision makers around the world are responding to the transformative potential of AI.

strategy. In the end, a strategy is
nothing but good intentions unless
it's effectively implemented.”

9. Think of yourself as of a business you are managing. You have your goals
and your resources, and you are ultimately working towards your survival,
growth and development. On your path, you will have to make some difficult
choices of where to invest those resources.
10. Use the same evaluation method companies are using when making
decisions where to invest their resources – cost-benefit analysis - by
estimating expected benefits and expected costs of each and every
opportunity.
11. Expected costs include time
and energy we have invested,
as well as opportunity cost -
cost of not being able to invest
in another alternative.
Expected benefits are advantages
we are making toward achieving
our goals.
In order to decide for an alternative,
expected benefits must be greater
than expected costs.
12. Ignore sunk costs!
It can be very hard to decide to give up on
something we have invested so much time and
effort into; something that was our brain child;
something that we have grown to love.
But, if it is not working out, no matter how much
we have invested of ourselves in it, the right this
is to say is: “No (more)”.
14. Some of them can be solved by careful preparation of respectful and brief responses
we can use as a template for refusing an opportunity or request.
There are many difficulties when it comes to actually saying “No” to
someone.
15. Be appreciative
By thanking the person for thinking of us or
trusting our capabilities, we are letting them
know that we are refusing the request, not
them, and that we are open for future
collaboration.
Or even a coffee next week.
16. It is better to give a reason for refusal than to leave people wondering. It is
very important for that refusal to be straightforward and sincere.
By giving lightweight reasons we are actually weakening our “No” and
sometimes even disrespecting the other person.
Always provide a brief
explanation
17. Template Example
Dear _________,
Thank you for thinking of me and providing me with this opportunity! It sounds
really ____________ and I would love to know more about it.
Unfortunately, I am not able to become a part of your project due to
________________________________________________________.
If there is anything else I can help you with please let me know.
Yours sincerely,

20. “The lesson I learned from this is that it’s
easier to hold to your principles 100% of
the time than it is to hold to them 98% of
the time. If you give in to ‘Just This Once’,
based on a marginal cost analysis, as
some of my former classmates have done,
you’ll regret where you end up. You’ve
got to define for yourself what you stand
for and draw the line in a safe place.”
