Natasa Djukanovic, Sales & Markering Manager at .ME, presented at NMX 2013 in Las Vegas!
Over the last decade or so, the focus in marketing has shifted from the product to the consumer – almost everything, from sports shoes to M&M’S, is getting a personalized look, feel and flavor. This evolution in marketing will be presented using the best examples from the industry, along with carefully selected tips and trips to help connect with your target audience in a powerful and personal way. Did we mention there will be pictures of cute animals and food?
Curious about how premiums and deductibles work? Are you considering changing your deductible to save money in the short term? This infographic will answer your questions.

The term “startup” has been around for over a decade. It is usually used to describe a struggling young ventures or big tech companies - the so called unicorns and even the hip San Francisco apps and huge tech companies. But how do we actually define a startup?
According to Neil Blumenthal, co-founder and co-CEO of Warby Parker, “A startup is a company working to solve a problem where the solution is not obvious and success is not guaranteed”. So why do so many people decide to start or invest in one. Well, the answer is simple - tech industry. One of the rare industries that keeps moving forward at lightning speed. The most successful startups so far have actually been tech startups, unique website or app ideas that make our everyday life easier, and to think that just a few years ago they all started as a simple idea in some young entrepreneur's head.
The startup industry has evolved so much that it now has its own language - a set of terms and expressions that helps define different aspects of this quite complex market.
Terms like accelerators and incubators are used to define collaborative programs, specially designed to provide different types of help to the newly formed ventures. For example, 39% of startups reported that being in an incubator provided them access to investors that were previously unavailable to them.
Each startup needs a lead investor, the person or company that is willing to be the first to invest money in an emerging startup. However, that same investor will be very interested in the prospects of his ROI - a return of investment.
A young startup also mustn't forget how important market research is when deciding which new and unique product or service they want to provide to their customers. Using surveys, focus groups and field trials are all valid tactics for testing the market before launching a startup.
You will find that all these terms and many more are a part of everyday conversations among both well-established and up-and-coming entrepreneurs in the startup industry. And if you want to find out more, you can always go through our handy ABC of Startups slideshow below and brush up on the most important vocabulary needed for succeeding in the ever growing and changing world of startups.
「INFOGRAPHIC」 The Great 21st Century North American War: Unicorns vs Narwhalsdomain .ME
“Second star to the right and straight on till morning” was once the only route to a magical place where fairies, mermaids, and other mythical beings could be found. However, we no longer need pixie dust to help us fly high above the skies. There are fairy-tale creatures running among us. Are we in Neverland? No, we are in the Unicorn era.
How come? Well, every tech startup company spawned after the great tech wreck of 2000 and 2001 that managed to reach $1 billion was said to ‘grow a horn’. The very term Unicorn Club was coined in 2013 by Aileen Lee when he introduced us to the concept.
It takes approximately 6 years and at least $95 million in funding for a tech startup to become a unicorn. If we look back on the last 15 years, the period between 2007 and 2009 showed to be the most fertile for starting a unicorn. This is supported by the fact that some of the most successful companies of today, Uber, Pinterest, Slack, Nutanix and many others, were founded right after the great economic collapse of 2008.
The average age of the mighty unicorn rider is 29 and the majority of them already had a vast experience working in tech companies. Although young, more than 70% have already founded a company prior to the one that reached stellar, 1-billion-dollar success.
However, many Millennials choose to ride down this track with a reliable partner. Whether it is the fear of the unknown or higher venture capital, 85% of young businessmen with a mutual history decide to continue in the same manner.
If you think that we are talking about only a small herd, you are in for a surprise as we can count more than 200 unicorns worldwide. Around 65% are headquartered in the US, with California being the leading habitat, as 39% of all US unicorns run around the Silicon Valley.
When it comes to Canadian tech startups, although they account for no more than 2% of all world unicorns, they are certainly a force to be reckoned with. The success of the Canadian 1-billion-dollar companies was recognized worldwide and in time they became a separate species. They were named after an animal that actually swims in those frigid northern waters – Narwhals.
Renamed by Brent Holiday, the CEO of Garibaldi Capital Advisors, Narwhal club includes startups that were launched as far back as 1999. Although there are only three narwhals ready to parry the herds of US unicorns, a significant number of them are expected to break the ice, such as Desire2Learn, iQmetrix, Wattpad and many others.
Who is currently at the very top of the North American billion-dollar ladder? Which narwhals dare to swim faster than the galloping unicorns? Scroll down to our infographic and see for yourself.
Infographic: DC vs Marvel – The Battle of Brandsdomain .ME
Generations of comic book fans have argued over which superhero would come out on top in the ultimate superhero battle between DC and Marvel universe. That is one argument that we cannot resolve, but what we offer instead is a look at the battle of the brands, and seeing who is currently winning the everlasting war.
Looking back at the very beginning, DC has dominated the comic book world from the 1930s to 1960s. Slowly but surely Marvel has taken over the lead, currently holding around 47% of the total comic book market, while DC commands around 27%.
Both companies have branched out their brands into movies. With DC again paving the path with its 1966 Batman the Movie. Marvel followed 20 years later with 1986’s Howard the Duck. The new millennium saw a significant increase in interest for superhero movies and Marvel was yet again able to surpass DC, having the 3rd biggest box office hit of all-times with The Avengers franchise, while DC had the 7th biggest with The Dark Knight Rises.
The video gaming world was the next natural step for both franchisees. With yet again DC pioneering the genre with Supermen in 1979 and Marvel following shortly after with Spider-Man in 1982. DC has held the lead in this industry so far with Batman: Arkham Knight selling over 5 million copies in 2015, while Marvel’s last release The Amazing Spider-Man 2 scored only 52/100 on Metacritic.
With the arrival of the digital era, both brands moved their battlefield from newsstands to the digital marketing arena. So far Marvel has been a clear winner, generating 3.9 million in organic keyword search, in comparison to DC’s 1 million. In the social media ring, Marvel still keeps knocking DC out with a Twitter following of over 3 million, while DC was able to generate around 1.5 million followers so far. On Facebook there is no contest, Marvel’s 21 million likes pulverizes DC’s 3 million.
We will definitely keep an eye on this ongoing battle of the brands and its possible future developments. But for now, have a look at our Battle of the Brands infographic and choose for yourself which brand, Marvel or DC, is the safest bet.
Infographic: Millennials vs Boomers at Work – Generational Showdowndomain .ME
Owing to the fact that people nowadays live longer and retire at a more advanced age, we are slowly but surely entering the period of heterogeneous offices in terms of age differences among workers. According to the 2015 statistics, Millennials and Baby Boomers represent the majority of USA workforce and are bound to be working side by side for many years to come.
Nevertheless, problems can occur in the working environment because of their behavioral differences. They can have a negative influence on the quality of the employee collaboration and ultimately cause lowering overall productivity levels. On the other hand, many claim that working in such environment can be quite beneficial, as diverse working attitudes do not necessarily have to imply conflict. By working in heterogeneous offices, employees are provided with an opportunity to complete one another.
To get the clearer picture of just how diverse the attitudes of Boomers and Millennials are when it comes to their work life, take a sneak peek at our infographic below. :)

Do You Know Why Achieving Work/Life Balance is so Hard? We Do! [Survey Results]domain .ME
Being active, engaged and successful is not an easy task. From the moment we open our eyes, until we fall asleep exhausted at night, we seem to confront a never-ending list of urgent tasks: taking out the trash, preparing lunch for our family, rushing to business meetings, checking our email on the fly.
And even when we should be relaxing, we are not. As true representatives of multitasking society we are watching a movie and thinking about what we have left unfinished at work; getting our nails done and nervously tapping our feet, in a constant hurry by default. Ironically, it’s precisely this downtime – most often called ME time – that helps us recharge and face all our responsibilities.
As .ME crew is made of experienced professionals who know all about the challenges of achieving work/life balance, we came to an idea of starting a ME Day movement – a day when we will make time to celebrate our achievements, embrace our uniqueness and put ourselves first. With that in mind, we conducted an informal ME Day Survey that included 753 respondents from the USA. We wanted to see how much time people devote to themselves, to ensure their physical, mental and spiritual well-being!
As we prove ourselves to be hard-working and competent people, we get more and more responsibilities and opportunities. The same thing happens with companies getting more and more demand for their services.
The problems arise when, at some point in time, we are forced by the limits of our time and resources to give up on something. Either we decide what that will be, or our circumstances will decide for us.
That is why companies have entire teams of people working to evaluate opportunities and demands coming their way, and politely but firmly saying “No” to those that don’t fit their big picture.
The goal of this presentation is to help you do the same!
