Eharmony Case Study Essay
Central Issue In the new world of making a name for yourself, one of the most important
characteristics of human culture has begun to be lost. Love, relationships, marriage, etc. have all
begun to be swallowed by the notion that in order to be successful in this world, your full attention,
time, and money must be put into your career. Before the 20th century, life was simple and
universal. Men brought home the bacon while women stayed at home washing dishes, cleaning the
house, raising children, and cooking meals. Most married a stayed married. Divorce was highly
frowned upon and therefore never happened.
However in the turn of the century, the age of technology and equal rights activists have brought a

Now the central problem for eHarmony has begun. eHarmony established itself as the leading
matchmaking company but with competitors threatening to take market share, the company needed
to find a way to preserve its reputation and remain the top matchmaking website for long term
relationships.
Industry Environment
Beginning with Internal Rivalry, eHarmony faced a lot of competition within the industry. The
most notable competition rested in pricing. There were hundreds of dating sites on the web
pertaining to many different types of people. Some were broad and inviting for everyone, others
specific to only a certain demographic whether it be race, religion, and/or even marital status. Along
with these dating sites, were social networking sites but these proved to not generate much
competition.
Some sites had membership fees while others were free. The free sites were generally not as well
run and were not successful in creating long standing relationships. However the fact that they were
free forced membership sites such as Match and eHarmony to bring down the price of their
subscription fees.
With hundreds of matchmaking sites on the web, one would think that it would be an easy industry
to enter. However, each year approximately 850 different sites attempted to join the industry and
quickly failed

Changes in Rita in Act Two Scene One of Educating Rita Essay
Changes in Rita in Act Two Scene One of Educating Rita
Willy Russell was born in Whiston, near Liverpool, England, in 1947.
Russell has written a string of popular, award winning plays and musicals, but perhaps one of
the most well known is Educating Rita. In this play Willy Russell is very much producing a mirror
image of parts of his life. As a child and growing up he didn t care much for school, he considered
himself a kid from the D stream and a piece of factory fodder. Eventually he realised he did not
want to end up working in a factory, yet it was to late as there were only six months of school left
he did not make an effort, he felt his fate lay in factory work so he spent his days in underground
clubs and sagging of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Frank on the other hand is a highly educated and experienced tutor and poet with an alcohol
problem who seems to dislike his students and holds a strong grudge against himself, he describes
Rita as the first breath of fresh air to walk into the room and believes he is not good enough to
teach her what she wants to know: everything.
She is eager to learn and is willing to change.
In Act 2 Scene 1 Rita has just come back from summer school, we quickly realise at the start of
this new act that significant changes have taken place in Rita s life since we last saw her, in the
play we do not see these happen of course but we do see and hear the results.
Apart from being at summer school she now lives in a flat with a friend after being thrown out of
her home by her husband who disagreed with her education, yet it is the changes in her character
and attitude that are the most startling and which need to be emphasised by the actress playing Rita
s part in this play.
As Rita enters Franks room the actress playing her should burst in with an incredible air of
confidence, throwing the audience back immediately noticing the change in her. She is wearing
new second hand stylish clothes and shows them off to Frank the clothes most probably
symbolising the new person that she has become, the transition is complete. She then surprisingly
takes of her shawl and gives it to
Frank whereas before she simply took her jacket off and hung it

+
INTRODUCTION
Authoritarian system of government in political science, can be defined as a system of
government that power is concentrated in the hands of a leader or elite which has strong central
government and limitations in political freedom as its features. The system strongly opposes the
thoughts of individuals. It operates under a single party rule and military force may be needed for
maintenance. It is best operated to serve as a fix for economic stagnation. It fosters long term
economic progress. According to Juan Linz (1975), who portrayed Authoritarian system of
Government to have the following features;
1.Limited plurality system: The system restricted institutions and groups like political parties,
legislatures.

The printing presses in Europe were privately owned until the 1850s, when the aristocracy sourced
for power and/or control to puppeteer what was printed about them. They had what it would take
them to decide what is to be printed. The Authoritarian system of government came up with
government restrictions due to Gutenberg s invention which was the printing press in the mid
fifteenth century which they felt would stand against their power. According to Hachten, the press
is subject to the direct of implied control of the state or sovereign. It has a restriction against news
that can criticize the authority in anyway. The media in the old Soviet Union, present day China

Loyalty And Appearance In The Outsiders By SE Hinton
Society will judge your appearances based on the outside just because society doesn t know
what is on the inside. The novel, The Outsiders written by SE Hinton is based on two big
characteristics, loyalty and appearance. Loyalty and appearance are shown in many examples
throughout the book, and how they affect the two different gangs. The story retains many
examples on the characters looks and how they are stereotyped just because of the way their
appearances, also just by the way they decide to dress. In, The Outsiders appearances plays a
very big role between the two rival gangs known as the Greasers and the Socs. The novel focuses
on the greasers hair on how it is slicked back and greased up, also the greasers clothing makes
them who they are. Although the greasers may not have a lot of money, the Greasers still
manage to develop a distinctive style which classifies them as Greasers. According to Ponyboy,
he may be no Paul Newman but his own looks aren t so bad (1). In addition Ponyboy is saying he

Loyalty keeps the Greasers as a family in, The Outsiders . To add, Johnny is loyal to Ponyboy
for protecting and standing up to the rival gang. Johnny and Ponyboy are family to each other
and would never leave each other behind. The author says, since mom and dad were both killed
in an auto wreck, the three of us stay together only as long as we behave (1). Loyalty is a big
deal for Ponyboy and his family, if it wasn t for loyalty Ponyboy may not even have a family.
Also the story mentions loyalty within the gang and how each member should look after each
other like brothers. Which really means the Greasers have each others back just like family. To
finalize loyalty within the Greasers is all over, the Greasers wouldn t be family if they weren t loyal

Analysis Of Homer s The King Of The Great Land
A murderer. A liar. A philander. A Narcissist. Is this the kind of man children should model after
as their hero? The Ancient Greek poem The Odyssey by Greek poet Homer, tells the story of
great Odysseus, the king of Ithaca who was sent off to fight in war for ten years, and his long
journey home. After the war, Odysseusshowed that he was not the leader and king that his crew
had thought. For instance, Odysseus showed many more remarkable character flaws, such as
continual disrespect to the Gods and men, his very self centered way of life, and his many
crimes committed during the entirety of the story. This protagonist of our epic story and the king
of the great land of Ithaca, is by no means a hero in the modern definition of the word. To
elaborate, Homer describes the life of Telemachus before he focuses in on Odysseus. Before
introducing Odysseus, Homer shows the life of a prince who was brought up to be a leader and to
rule a kingdom. In fact, the story starts out with young Telemachus restraining himself from doing
the very things in which his father finds no shame. Daydreaming so as he sat among the suitors, he
glimpsed Athena now and straight to the porch he went, mortified that a guest might still be
standing at the doors (Homer 1.138). To clarify, Telemachus represents the positive and virtuous
family he was brought up under by demonstrating his respect for the Ancient Greeklaws of
hospitality. In addition, Telemachus does not openly disrespect the suitors or

The Battle Of The Qing Dynasty
I Got Up and Struggled On
The Nineteenth and early twentieth centuries were ripe with wars and rebellions in China. Such
instances included the Opium wars, the Taiping Rebellion, the Japanese invasions, and the Boxer
Rebellion. China has a long history with opium. The Chinese were alarmed at the fact that there
were astoundingly high rates of opium addiction among its population that it decided to cease trade
with the British. The British were unhappy that China had ceased imports of opium that they
launched a naval offensive. The Qing dynasty was embarrassingly defeated. The Taiping Rebellion

If you were a peasant in China, life was difficult. It was especially difficult if you were a woman.
Women living in China had very few rights, and were expected to be subservient to men. Chinese
women were expected to stay close to home so that they could execute their duties. A physical
sign of this expectation is through the practice known as foot binding. Women would bind their
feet so that they would not wander far from the home. Women were expected to have an escort
when they left their house. If women did not have an escort, they were subject to public ridicule,
or sometimes they would be taken. In the book A Daughter of Han: The Autobiography of a
Chinese Working Woman, written by Ning Lao T ai T ai we see the consequences of what
happens when Ning s granddaughter goes out alone to shop: When my granddaughter was in
middle school and came home one summer, she went to P englai. She and her companions
wanted to do some shopping, they wanted some shoes. Not a shoe shop would let them in. The
clerks stood across the front of the shops and held out their arms. In each place they said, We have
no shoes here. (Lao T ai T ai, Ning, 177)
It was an embarrassment for a woman to be seen out alone. Women were married off early through
the practice of arranged marriage. Opportunities were extremely limited for women in China. Many

Introduction
With the rising evolution of businesses, the evolution of business and institution data security has
also evolved exceptionally. Various data security methods have been devised to ensure that
vulnerability is mitigated but at the same time cyber criminals such as hackers have also evolved
their data hacking methods as they look for the least weaknesses in a company and exploit it. The
essay looks into various trends that have emerged in ensuring that data is safe by institution, the
most vulnerable spots for various companies have been looked into too. When it comes to security
of mobile devices and wireless networks, their security perspectives have been looked into in
addition to the way the existing companies are protecting themselves from computer attacks.
Trends in Security Network
There has been developed even more severe and dynamic viruses that are used to hack various

Iranian institutions by an adversary (unsubstantially claimed to be Israel or U.S.A) that is able to
penetrate various Iranian systems and control their nuclear reactors, destroy oil pipelines and so
on. The Iranian government has not been able to counter this virus as it is extensively dynamic and

Epictetus Handbook Analysis
Epictetus is a greek philosopher who wrote the famous Handbook. The Handbook was a series
of comparisons between an individuals choice of power. Growing up a slave in Phrygia
(Modern day Turkey) and eastern Rome, Epictetus always contemplated the value of power.
Power, as defined by Epictetus himself is the capacity in which an individual can control his or
her behavior and actions. Within his handbook, the author develops the idea of power in certain
stages. Like many philosophers during his time period, Epictetus spends a significant amount of
time in his writing relating to the idea of happiness and flourishing life. In his handbook, the
author exemplifies how some things are choice worthy. However, in our power other
circumstances within it must be avoided. The writer also gives us, the intuition of how stoic and
impassive the authority of power can be. Epictetus relates to this theory by explaining that some
of us as individuals have powers that are advantages and disadvantages. He goes on to clarify that
it is up to us as specific individuals to stoic(ize) these advantages and disadvantages and make them
flourish and thrive in everyday life.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just like any other story, the author reunites the belief that death is still, and always will be apart
of a man s intention to survive. The author does this by adding events that would promote the
predisposition of death and survival. Baker represents power in a different way than Epictetus
does by relating power with death. Power, as Baker would describe it to be is the means of doing
whatever is necessary to survive in any given

Between 1870 and 1920, the European nations took the use of imperialism due to economic,

Imitation Of Life Is A Film Directly Focusing On The...
Imitation of Life is a film directly focusing on the relationships between mother and daughter.
Although the main characters, Annie and Sara Jane, and Lora and Susie, seem similar in their
relationships, the film juxtaposes them in terms of race. On the surface, the relationships presented
are, at best, considered to be normal struggles between motherand daughter. Analyzing the specific
trials and problems will reveal a difference in Black motherhood and White motherhood. Annie and
Sara Jane face racial and identity issues, that cause the relationship to shatter. Lora and Susie
encounter a sense of abandonment and loss of love, which in turn creates a divide between them.

her mother has created for herself. Sara Jane chooses to get revenge after Annie askes her to take
something out to the guests, as that request could associate Sara Jane with her mother s race and
domestic servitude. Sara Jane wants so desperately to pass as a white girl, but is constantly
reminded of her race just by her mother s appearance. Their relationship is completely shattered by
the end of the film, with Sara Jane refusing to have anything to do with her mother. The dynamic
between Lora and Susie as mother and daughter is slightly different, with their relationship focusing
on Susie s feelings of abandonment and missing love. One of the only confrontational scenes
pertaining to these issues between Susie and Lora occurs near the end of the film, with Lora
becoming upset that her daughter did not tell her about her budding love of Steve. Annie spills
Susie s secret infatuation, and this causes Lora to confront her daughter about her romantic
feelings. Amidst this quarrel, Susie exclaims, You ve given me everything but yourself! and

Cultural Appropriation, By The Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge
Anyone who knows me, knows me knows that I love to watch reruns of What not to wear on

in my Spanish class known that I not only care about my culture but others as well. This school
year has been interesting both fashion wise and politically, from the Kylie Jenner Lip challenge,
to Donald Trump running for president. It has been such a weird school year however, that it has
pointed out a sad fact about the current fashion world, that is prevalent through the politics we
discuss in our everyday lives, and that is cultural appropriation. As cultural appropriation
according to the Oxford Dictionary is A term used to describe the taking over of creative or artistic
forms, themes, or practices by one cultural group from another. It is in general used to describe
Western appropriations of non‐Western or non‐white forms, and carries connotations of
exploitation and dominance. And despite how much we would like to believe that this issue doesn

Persuasive Essay On The Effect Of Volunteering
Everyone has their own unique struggles and deals with those struggles in their own unique ways.
Personally, the limitations in my ability to communicate comfortably inhibited my day to day life.
In my mind, talking to strangers, and even those closest to me, felt like an enormous obstacle that
I would never get past. Every conversation led me to believe that the people I was speaking with
were judging me. The situation became even worse when I started to believe that anyone that even
glanced in my direction thought of me negatively, and my suspicion that if I glanced at someone,
they were most certainly going to stare at me, did not help matters any. To rid myself of the
outrages anxiety, I chose to volunteer. While choosing an organization to offer my services, I made
sure that the activity was as beneficial to the community as it was to me, so shortly after deciding to
volunteer, I contacted my local Feeding America soup kitchen. After struggling to maintain calm
during social interactions all my life, I found that volunteering at a soup kitchen through Feeding
America has strengthened my ability to make personal connections with strangers.
When I was diagnosed with general anxiety disorder roughly a year ago, the reason behind my lack
of interpersonal skills became more clear, and I was able to use volunteering at the local soup
kitchen to my advantage. Author Brooke Foster claims, Right now, one in five Americans suffers

Coercive Interrogations And The Elicitation Of False...
COERCIVE INTERROGATIONS AND THE ELICITATION OF FALSE CONFESSIONS
The effectiveness of the coercive methods used in modern interrogation lack rigorous scientific
consideration and have been accepted without satisfactory scrutiny. Previous studies on alternative
methods of interrogation are underdeveloped and sparse, as scope exists to reform current practices
to ensure that interrogation processes (are) ecologically valid and focused on the correct processes.
This essay posits that the accusatorial Reid Model of interrogation is ineffective insofar as it
employs coercive practices that have been empirically proven to elicit false confessions. The
problematic Reid Model is juxtaposed against an alternative non coercive information gathering
approach to highlight the superiority of this method in its ability to elicit true confessions. This
essay emphasises the challenge for future research to continue to deconstruct the validity of
coercive techniques to encourage reform that promotes more effective non coercive methods.
In examining the foremost interrogation methods used, this essay will utilise the distinction drawn
by Meissner et al between information gathering and accusatorial approaches as a means to
highlight coercive practices within interrogations. The accusatorial method uses psychological
manipulation in order to establish control of a suspect and achieve confession. This method is
typified by the approach of the United States through their use of the

How Pete Seeger Became A Successful Musician
During the 1940 s I will be taking about how Pete Seeger became a successful musician, and how
he made a difference in the music industry. Pete Seeger was a smart man when it came to politics
and being a musician, he got accepted to Harvard University, although he wasn t your average
college student; he couldn t study which lead him into feeling his classes and dropping out.
After Seeger dropped out of school he went into politics, Seeger always had a thing for music
and politics; he had a lot of hobbies such as music, painting, hiking, and he loved being outdoors
(Winkler 2011, 2). Pete s father loved academics and enjoyed playing music, he was a great
pianist and played harmony, his colleagues liked hearing him play, they thought he was a great
musician. Seeger learned a lot from his dad. Seeger and Guthrie came from singing in the
saloons, radio shows, political rallies, Guthrie wrote thousands of songs. Seeger and Guthrie both
had a lot in common; they both were musicians; and both enjoyed playing music, rather it was
playing with a banjo or writing music. Guthrie and Seeger appeared at a few gatherings at an
American piece mobilization March in Washington DC to protest the nations drift toward war
(Winkler 2011, 24 25). They were the only band who rehearsed on stage before performing.
Guthrie and Seeger were known as the Almanac singers; the Almanac singers wrote their first
antiwar songs, they were looking for someone to record them. Even though in a couple of their

How Is Performance Management Linked to Organizational...

How is performance management linked to organizational strategy execution and performance? A
case study of two organizations of different scale in Asia
By Raveenderen Ramamoothie Strategy execution is a topic of practical importance and its success
depends on how an organization integrates and aligns the business units and the employee
performance to the strategic goals of the organization. However, many organizations find that their
strategic goals realization is not optimized. One of the key issues is that the strategy and the
performance goals of an organization are often disconnected with the performance management
platform, a function of the strategic HR in managing employee performance. Essentially in this

I Am Waiting For The Concert
Sunday, May 29th 2016, 2:55PM: I am waiting for the concert to begin as I watch the musicians
walk onto the stage one by one, rehearsing a few notes on their instrument to warm up a bit and
probably test the pitch of the instrument. As more and more get up on the stage, the sound of them
rehearsing feel more and more chaotic, confusing and hard to follow, reminding me of Stravinski s
work. All of the sudden, they stop and start playing harmoniously a few notes thus inviting the
conductor on the stage the concert was about to start.
Before the main performance, there were two shorter pieces, Ibert s Bacchanale and Dusapin s
Outscape. In retrospec,t both were wonderful choices as a prelude to Holst s The Planets as I felt the
three pieces fit well together when put back to back and they even inspired to me an overarching
message.
Jacques Ibert s Bacchanale was composed in 1956, only 6 years before it s author s death.
Unlike his previous compositions which were marked by the tension and turmoil of the interwar
period and World War 2, Bacchanale is the culmination of his rather wild and hard to pigeonhole
style. The title evokes the Roman festival bearing the same name, a tribute to the wine god
Bacchus. Bacchanalia were notorious for the excessive drinking, dancing and performing for as
long as the participants could remain standing and they were living proof of the carefree lifestyle
Romans could afford to have.
The composition itself mirrors this style, having as a

Gestational Diagnostic Essay
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a type of diabetes which usually occurs around 24th to 28th
weeks of pregnancy. [1] A pregnant woman is diagnosed with GDM when her blood glucose level
is higher than normal. Therefore, there are several treatment options available to treat GDM patient.
The main aim of treatment of GDM patient is to ensure the blood glucose level of a GDM pregnant
woman is equal to those normal pregnant women that do not have GDM. The first line therapy in
the management of GDM involves lifestyle modification and medical nutrition therapy. Based on
the trigger, the patient is overweight. Thus, she needs nutritional counseling from a registered
dietitian in order to help her to manage her weight. She should follow a healthy eating plan to keep
her blood glucose level within the target value, provide enough nutrition and achieve appropriate
weight changes during her pregnancy. Furthermore, she should keep physically active by doing
some light exercise such as brisk walking which can help to prevent further gaining of weight.
Plus, exercise can also help to reduce blood sugar level by stimulating body to move glucose into
the cells, where it is used for energy [2].

adverse events and the use of metformin alone or as adjunct to insulin is not related with the

that it is more acceptable to use metformin than insulin as metformin helps to increase the insulin

Compare And Contrast Olney And Paris
While Olney and Paris both showed a strong defense and offense in the first half however, Paris
could not hold off Olney in the second half. The first quarter of the game was a very back and
forth game with neither team successfully scoring on each other. The second quarter in the first
two minutes we would see Paris score on Olney resulting in Paris leading the game7 to 0.
After the first score against Olney a storm rolled through during the game resulting in a 30 minute
delay. After the delay Olney managed to come back by the end of the second quarter and score
tying up the game 7 to 7 ending the first half. The rain for the remainder of the game was very
much present.
Due to the weather conditions during the second half we saw many negative effects of the wet
terrain. Of the two teams it seemed like Paris was the most effected by these weather conditions
in the second half. Because of these condition and also because of Olney successfully running a
few key plays to gain extra yardage By the end of the third quarter Olney led 26 to 7 against Paris.

On another note, Elton John came out bisexual during 1976 with an interview by the Rolling
Stones, and in 2014 married a man in England to where same sex marriage is legal. Elton being a
gay activist and being a high profile artist, Elton helped the push to allowed same marriage to be

I have learnt that Pop/Pop Rock style of music is very simple. That it goes by a set of rules from
the Major scale that every chord played is in the key signature of the chord, and that many songs
could only have three or four chords that are used. This applies to my personal development by
reasoning that to find a song with a good catchy tune, I can stick with major scales and play around
with those notes. That even the greats like Elton John became famous with sticking to major

Double Strand Breaks (DSB)
Among the many types of DNA damage, one of the most severe is DNA double strand breaks
(DSB). DNA DSBs occur when two complementary strands break simultaneously generating two
strands which are not being held together by base pairing and chromatin structure. Few known
causes for DSB are ionizing radiation, chemical mutagens, reactive oxygen species and drugs
which are used for chemotherapy (Goodsell, 2005). This breakage can cause chromosomal
rearrangement such as translocation and inversion, consequentially resulting in detrimental
phenotypic affects. How are these breaks repaired? DSBs can be repaired through distinct
mechanistically set pathways, as shown in figure 1, such as Homologous recombination repairs
(HRR), Non end joining homologous repair (NHEJ) and more recently discovered
Microhomology mediated end joining (MMEJ). HRR uses a homologous template to accurately
repair the broken strand, whereas NHEJ relies on Ku proteins (Fnu et al., 2011) and DNAligase to
repair DNA double strands, often times causing small insertions or deletions at the joining site.
MMEJ, a more recent finding, uses a 5 25 bp micorohomologous sequence to align the broken ends
simultaneously always causing deletions in the previously broken strand (McVey and Lee, 2008).
Genomic instability is a trademark of increased risk of cancers with age. This instability arises
from several problems, with one of the main ones being double strand breakage (DSB). HRR, one
of the DSB repair, is a tightly

Irish Diaspora and its Musical Consequences In 1845 Ireland was troubled with the devastating
famine known as the Great Potato Famine, which ended up destroying 75 percent of all their

The most traditional and common instruments used in Irish music include the flute, tin whistle,
Uillean pipes, bodhran, fiddle, bouzouki, accordion, and Irish harp (Madding). In the 1920s
recordings of Irish musicians were being made in the United States. These recordings then made
their way to Ireland and had a dramatic effect on the tradition, musicians in Ireland began to
speed up the tempo of the tunes (Mulraney). Piano was also incorporated with the use of the
fiddle and uillean pipes, which was before an unheard of blend. In traditional music of Ireland
there is a large theme of the immigrant experience (McKeever). The songs often express fond
memories of their homeland, stories behind the choice to emigrate, and a hope for the future. The
music of Ireland showcases the impact of the diaspora. The melodies in Irish music often have the
ability to evoke joy, sadness, hope, and loss all in a single tune (McKeever). In The Green Fields of
Americay, a famous Irish song in which the narrator illustrates the sadness of leaving and the hope
for what the new country will bring. At the end he offers a promise to future Irish immigrants, that

Analysis Of Culpepper And Koester s Writing I ve Learned...
Reflection Paper
In Culpepper and Koester s writing I ve learned a great deal about the Gospel of John from all
perspectives. I ve learned everything from what makes John unique, the Gospel of John as
literature, and some theological insight on the Gospel of John. In this particular paper though I
want to focus on three key questions asked and deliver well thought out ideas and answers. Also
in this paper the reader will learn what the similarities and differences John has from the Synoptic
Gospels, what difference would it make to Christian belief today if the Gospel of John was never
written, and what my favorite gospel is and why?
First the question is asked, How is John similar to and different from the synoptic gospels? Is there
evidence that John is aware of the existence of the synoptic gospels ? First we have to understand
that although John s Gospel has much in common with the other New Testament gospels, it is
largely independent from the others as well (Koester 4). Some similarities that John and the
synoptic Gospels have is they all link Jesus to the town of Nazareth. They all say that Jesus had a
group of disciples, he taught others, he healed those in need of healing, and they all recorded the
scene of feeding the five thousand. Now John is different from the other gospels in a few different
ways. The first way John is different from the others is the journeys talked about throughout the
gospels, for instance only Matthew and Luke contains accounts of Jesus

When a foster youth speaks about his or her experience, they open the eyes of many people who

These results are meant to spark an interest in their audience and give way to even more in depth
study of the experiences of LGBTQ youth. The information is not just for those in education but
it very important for them. There must be methods of intervention and procedures to prevent
negative outcomes when a child does decide to confine in his parents about his/her sexuality.
There have been studies done in order to identify the adolscents who idenfiy as LGBTQ. One
example of a specific study conducted was by Casey Field Office Mental Health (CFOMH).
This organization set out with a few questions for a group of foster youth. The study interviewed
188 adolescents ages 14 to 17 who were receiving foster care services from Casey Family
Programs in 2006. About 10 children of the group of 188 youths identified as LGBQ. This study
includes both the experiences of the LGBTQ youth groups as well as their non LGBTQ
counterparts. The results of this study concluded that out of the 10 students who identify as
LGBTQ all felt as though they were not being given the help they needed. They felt marginalized.

The Importance Of Learning In Supporting Teaching And...
A key factor through all the stages of PE is allowing pupils to progress through the steps whilst
developing their skills in order to widen their knowledge. This is why the role of the teacher is to
consider activities in terms of difficulty and quality and to give children opportunities to plan and
evaluate their own performance (Hopper et al, 2000, pg. 117). This illuminates the idea that
throughout the key stages, the difficulties of the tasks should be increased whilst allowing students
to focus on the key points of the skillbeing learnt.
Throughout their education, but in particular in the foundation stage, children will progress at
different rates (Chedzoy,1996, pg. 47) due to them being exposed to new skills and activities which

game like activity. By bringing the added element of competition to the lesson, allows for the
children to strive to be better than the other team, therefore enabling them to progress.
Another key factor is the self esteem of the pupils as Mawer (1995, pg. 121) promotes the idea that
as a teacher we can maintain a positive learning environment through the development of pupils self

The Concept of Intelligence Essay
The Concept of Intelligence
ABSTRACT: Gilbert Ryle s dispositional analysis of the concept of intelligence makes the error of
assimilating intelligence to the category of dispositional or semi dispositional concepts. Far from
being a dispositional concept, intelligence is an episodic concept that refers neither to dispositions
nor to knowing how, but to a fashion or style of proceeding whose significance is adverbial. Being
derivative from the function of the adverb intelligently, the concept of intelligence does not have
essential reference to specific verbs but rather to the manner or style of proceeding of nearly any
verb that is descriptive of the proceedings of an agent. Intelligence words are expressive of a
manner of doing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The dualist s reaction was to withdraw from the dispositional analysis and to claim that intelligence
can only make sense when it is ultimately linked to an alternative concept which presumably has
reference to a process (the existence of which may be ascertained by a subjective avowal: intent,
deliberation, reflective choice, etc.).
Whether this maneuver avoids the Rylean critique is subject to serious doubt. Each new term may
itself have a problem concerning the metaphysical status of its referent: whether it is a physical or a
spiritual process.
Another problem with this approach is that it often makes the concept of intelligence dependent on
factors that may have no more than a casual relation to its meaning: a contextual connection, for
example.
While a dispositional analysis of intelligence would effectively rescue it from entrapment inside the
ghost in the machine it would fail to do the concept the justice that the dualist seeks for it, and that
is to make the observation that it appears to be more an episodic than a dispositional concept.
It is in this connection that some philosophers take a critical view of Ryle s analysis. Peter Thomas
Geach, for instance, claims that reports of mental acts are categorical and are not hypothetical or
semi hypothetical statements about overt behavior. He believes the dispositional account of
psychological concepts to be on a level with the statement that opium puts people to sleep

animator at Pixar, go to Full Sail University, and do well in school. This will make a difference in
society because it would bring joy to many children watching. I plan on being an animator at
Pixar because I take joy in drawing and one day would like my art work to be seen. Most
animators concentrate on a specific medium such as movies, television shows, commercials,
video games, or animated movies ( Computer Animator Careers, 2015). If I plan on getting my art
work out there this would be very beneficial for me because Pixar has many viewers. The most
important benefit of being a graphic artist is the ability to express your creativity ( You the Designer,

Full Sail University s computer animation bachelor degree focuses on the creation of 3D computer
graphics (Full Sail University, 2015). It is appealing to me because I would love the opportunity
to work with 3D modeling and gain experience. Computer animation will not only benefit me but
it will as well bring joy to many children out there. I can start by maintaining a 4.0 GPA and
practicing on my artistic skills. Computer Animation applicants should possess artistic skill,
traditional art classes are recommended prior to entering the program (Full Sail University,
2015). I am preparing for it by taking multiple art classes as I possibly can. I must have a
Documentation of high school graduation, or general educational development and take many art
classes (Full Sail University, 2015). I find this interesting because I myself am already interested
in art, so taking various classes will be easy for me. Although a job at Pixar might sound easy, it is
actually a difficult job to acquire, with this training I will surely get an opportunity at the

conclusion can remain, at bast unwarranted. To begin with, although they will have a new fabtic

Russell has written a string of popular, award winning plays and musicals, but perhaps one of the most well known is Educating Rita. In this play Willy Russell is very much producing a mirror image of parts of his life. As a child and growing up he didn t care much for school, he considered himself a kid from the D stream and a piece of factory fodder. Eventually he realised he did not want to end up working in a factory, yet it was to late as there were only six months of school left he did not make an effort, he felt his fate lay in factory work so he spent his days in underground clubs and sagging of ... She is eager to learn and is willing to change. In Act 2 Scene 1 Rita has just come back from summer school, we quickly realise at the start of this new act that significant changes have taken place in Rita s life since we last saw her, in the play we do not see these happen of course but we do see and hear the results. Apart from being at summer school she now lives in a flat with a friend after being thrown out of her home by her husband who disagreed with her education, yet it is the changes in her character and attitude that are the most startling and which need to be emphasised by the actress playing Rita s part in this play. As Rita enters Franks room the actress playing her should burst in with an incredible air of confidence, throwing the audience back immediately noticing the change in her. She is wearing new second hand stylish clothes and shows them off to Frank the clothes most probably symbolising the new person that she has become, the transition is complete. • 10. Analysis Of Homer s The King Of The Great Land A murderer. A liar. A philander. A Narcissist. Is this the kind of man children should model after as their hero? The Ancient Greek poem The Odyssey by Greek poet Homer, tells the story of great Odysseus, the king of Ithaca who was sent off to fight in war for ten years, and his long journey home. After the war, Odysseusshowed that he was not the leader and king that his crew had thought. For instance, Odysseus showed many more remarkable character flaws, such as continual disrespect to the Gods and men, his very self centered way of life, and his many crimes committed during the entirety of the story. This protagonist of our epic story and the king of the great land of Ithaca, is by no means a hero in the modern definition of the word. To elaborate, Homer describes the life of Telemachus before he focuses in on Odysseus. Before introducing Odysseus, Homer shows the life of a prince who was brought up to be a leader and to rule a kingdom. In fact, the story starts out with young Telemachus restraining himself from doing the very things in which his father finds no shame. Daydreaming so as he sat among the suitors, he glimpsed Athena now and straight to the porch he went, mortified that a guest might still be standing at the doors (Homer 1.138). To clarify, Telemachus represents the positive and virtuous family he was brought up under by demonstrating his respect for the Ancient Greeklaws of hospitality. If you were a peasant in China, life was difficult. It was especially difficult if you were a woman. Women living in China had very few rights, and were expected to be subservient to men. Chinese women were expected to stay close to home so that they could execute their duties. A physical sign of this expectation is through the practice known as foot binding. Women would bind their feet so that they would not wander far from the home. Women were expected to have an escort when they left their house. If women did not have an escort, they were subject to public ridicule, or sometimes they would be taken. Growing up a slave in Phrygia (Modern day Turkey) and eastern Rome, Epictetus always contemplated the value of power. Power, as defined by Epictetus himself is the capacity in which an individual can control his or her behavior and actions. Within his handbook, the author develops the idea of power in certain stages. Like many philosophers during his time period, Epictetus spends a significant amount of time in his writing relating to the idea of happiness and flourishing life. In his handbook, the author exemplifies how some things are choice worthy. However, in our power other circumstances within it must be avoided. The writer also gives us, the intuition of how stoic and impassive the authority of power can be. Epictetus relates to this theory by explaining that some of us as individuals have powers that are advantages and disadvantages. Previous studies on alternative methods of interrogation are underdeveloped and sparse, as scope exists to reform current practices to ensure that interrogation processes (are) ecologically valid and focused on the correct processes. This essay posits that the accusatorial Reid Model of interrogation is ineffective insofar as it employs coercive practices that have been empirically proven to elicit false confessions. As more and more get up on the stage, the sound of them rehearsing feel more and more chaotic, confusing and hard to follow, reminding me of Stravinski s work. Jacques Ibert s Bacchanale was composed in 1956, only 6 years before it s author s death. Unlike his previous compositions which were marked by the tension and turmoil of the interwar period and World War 2, Bacchanale is the culmination of his rather wild and hard to pigeonhole style. The title evokes the Roman festival bearing the same name, a tribute to the wine god Bacchus. • 29. Double Strand Breaks (DSB) Among the many types of DNA damage, one of the most severe is DNA double strand breaks (DSB). DNA DSBs occur when two complementary strands break simultaneously generating two strands which are not being held together by base pairing and chromatin structure. Few known causes for DSB are ionizing radiation, chemical mutagens, reactive oxygen species and drugs which are used for chemotherapy (Goodsell, 2005). This breakage can cause chromosomal rearrangement such as translocation and inversion, consequentially resulting in detrimental phenotypic affects. How are these breaks repaired? DSBs can be repaired through distinct mechanistically set pathways, as shown in figure 1, such as Homologous recombination repairs (HRR), Non end joining homologous repair (NHEJ) and more recently discovered Microhomology mediated end joining (MMEJ). HRR uses a homologous template to accurately repair the broken strand, whereas NHEJ relies on Ku proteins (Fnu et al., 2011) and DNAligase to repair DNA double strands, often times causing small insertions or deletions at the joining site. MMEJ, a more recent finding, uses a 5 25 bp micorohomologous sequence to align the broken ends simultaneously always causing deletions in the previously broken strand (McVey and Lee, 2008). Genomic instability is a trademark of increased risk of cancers with age. This instability arises from several problems, with one of the main ones being double strand breakage (DSB). • 32. Analysis Of Culpepper And Koester s Writing I ve Learned... Reflection Paper In Culpepper and Koester s writing I ve learned a great deal about the Gospel of John from all perspectives. I ve learned everything from what makes John unique, the Gospel of John as literature, and some theological insight on the Gospel of John. In this particular paper though I want to focus on three key questions asked and deliver well thought out ideas and answers. Also in this paper the reader will learn what the similarities and differences John has from the Synoptic Gospels, what difference would it make to Christian belief today if the Gospel of John was never written, and what my favorite gospel is and why? First the question is asked, How is John similar to and different from the synoptic gospels? Is there evidence that John is aware of the existence of the synoptic gospels ? First we have to understand that although John s Gospel has much in common with the other New Testament gospels, it is largely independent from the others as well (Koester 4). Some similarities that John and the synoptic Gospels have is they all link Jesus to the town of Nazareth. They all say that Jesus had a group of disciples, he taught others, he healed those in need of healing, and they all recorded the scene of feeding the five thousand. Now John is different from the other gospels in a few different ways. The first way John is different from the others is the journeys talked about throughout the gospels, for instance only Matthew and Luke contains accounts of Jesus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. The Importance Of Learning In Supporting Teaching And... A key factor through all the stages of PE is allowing pupils to progress through the steps whilst developing their skills in order to widen their knowledge. This is why the role of the teacher is to consider activities in terms of difficulty and quality and to give children opportunities to plan and evaluate their own performance (Hopper et al, 2000, pg. 117). This illuminates the idea that throughout the key stages, the difficulties of the tasks should be increased whilst allowing students to focus on the key points of the skillbeing learnt. Throughout their education, but in particular in the foundation stage, children will progress at different rates (Chedzoy,1996, pg. 47) due to them being exposed to new skills and activities which ... By bringing the added element of competition to the lesson, allows for the children to strive to be better than the other team, therefore enabling them to progress. Another key factor is the self esteem of the pupils as Mawer (1995, pg. 121) promotes the idea that as a teacher we can maintain a positive learning environment through the development of pupils self esteem . • 40. The Concept of Intelligence Essay The Concept of Intelligence ABSTRACT: Gilbert Ryle s dispositional analysis of the concept of intelligence makes the error of assimilating intelligence to the category of dispositional or semi dispositional concepts. Far from being a dispositional concept, intelligence is an episodic concept that refers neither to dispositions nor to knowing how, but to a fashion or style of proceeding whose significance is adverbial. Being derivative from the function of the adverb intelligently, the concept of intelligence does not have essential reference to specific verbs but rather to the manner or style of proceeding of nearly any verb that is descriptive of the proceedings of an agent. Intelligence words are expressive of a manner of doing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The dualist s reaction was to withdraw from the dispositional analysis and to claim that intelligence can only make sense when it is ultimately linked to an alternative concept which presumably has reference to a process (the existence of which may be ascertained by a subjective avowal: intent, deliberation, reflective choice, etc.). Whether this maneuver avoids the Rylean critique is subject to serious doubt. Each new term may itself have a problem concerning the metaphysical status of its referent: whether it is a physical or a spiritual process. Another problem with this approach is that it often makes the concept of intelligence dependent on factors that may have no more than a casual relation to its meaning: a contextual connection, for example. While a dispositional analysis of intelligence would effectively rescue it from entrapment inside the ghost in the machine it would fail to do the concept the justice that the dualist seeks for it, and that is to make the observation that it appears to be more an episodic than a dispositional concept. It is in this connection that some philosophers take a critical view of Ryle s analysis. Peter Thomas Geach, for instance, claims that reports of mental acts are categorical and are not hypothetical or semi hypothetical statements about overt behavior. He believes the dispositional account of psychological concepts to be on a level with the statement that opium puts people to sleep ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
