Alexander III Research Paper
Following his father s assassination, Alexander III was advised that it would be difficult for him to be
kept safe at the Winter Palace. As a result, Alexander relocated his family to the Gatchina Palace,
located twenty miles south of St. Petersburg, making it his primary residence. Under heavy guard he
would make occasional visits into St. Petersburg, but even then he would stay in the Anichkov Palace,
as opposed to the Winter Palace. In the 1860s Alexander fell madly in love with his mother s lady in
waiting, Princess Maria Elimovna Meshcherskaya. Dismayed to learn that Prince Wittgenstein had
proposed to her in spring 1866, he told his parents that he was prepared to give up his rights of
succession in order to marry his beloved Dusenka . On 19 May 1866, Alexander II informed his son
that Russia had come to an agreement with the parents of Princess Dagmar of Denmark, his fourth
cousin. Before then, she had been the fiancée of his late elder brother Nicholas. At first Alexander
refused to travel to Copenhagen, declaring that he did not love Dagmar and his desire to marry Maria.
In response the enraged emperor ordered Alexander to go straight to Denmark and propose to Princess
Dagmar. The Tsesarevich then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This tension was reflected in the rivalry between Maria Feodorovna and Vladimir s wife, Grand
Duchess Marie Pavlovna.[9] Alexander had better relationships with his other brothers: Alexei (whom
he made rear admiral and then a grand admiral of the Russian Navy), Sergei (whom he made governor
of Moscow) and Paul. Despite the antipathy that Alexander had towards his stepmother, Princess
Catherine Dolgorukov, he nevertheless allowed her to remain in the Winter Palace for some time after
his father s assassination and to retain various keepsakes of him. These included Alexander II s blood
soaked uniform that he died wearing, and his reading

The Theory Of The Mathematics Teacher
While the rule taught youth is at sea when beyond his rules, the youth instructed in principles solves a
new case as readily as an old one . (Spencer, 1878, p.57)
What you see and what you hear depends a great deal on where you are standing. It also depends on
what sort of person you are . (Lewis, 1994, p.108)
The mathematics teacher builds examples into their arsenal of resources to help demonstrate the
mathematical principles they are trying to teach (Dreyfus, 1994). However, not all examples are
equally constructed and provide the same learning experience to the learner. Spencer (1978) believes
that learners who know principles are more prepared than rule focussed learners to tackle problems.
This is the same within mathematics, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The methodology will describe how the study will be conducted and why. Observations will be
recorded on the process of constructing examples and how they are employed in the classroom.
Percentage examples will be constructed and these will be used in the teaching of percentages to a
Year 7 class. Further observations will be made on how the learners approach and conduct the
examples. Analysis of the response to these examples will be made where recommendations will be
offered to improve my application as a mathematics teacher. It is intended that this investigation and
use of Variation Theory will improve my understanding of the construction of examples and thus
improve the learners experience.
BACKGROUND
The study was conducted in a Leicestershire high school that accepts learners from year 7 to 9. Year 7s
enter directly from several feeder primary schools and generally leave to join a single upper school
where they sit GCSEs. Although it does not take the learners through formal exams, the school s
primary focus is on the preparation to attain qualifications. This means its Scheme of Work (SOW) is
fixed to meeting the National Curriculum (NC).
The class studied is a year 7 mixed ability mathematics class. This consisted of 32 learners with a boy
to girl ratio of 2:1. There are several behavioural issues regards some learners disrupting the class and,

Social Bond Theory
Through the evolution of social bonds, individuals have always been under scrutiny to abide by a list
of rules in order to be successful in their community. This ideology is made evident in the book, The
Code of the Street, by Elijah Anderson. Anderson dissects and exposes the various issues dealing with
families in urban minority communities. These families are labeled as street and decent . The
connotation of the term code of the street is a set of accepted and understood set of rules in which
street and decent families abide by in order to function in modern day street society. These regulatory
rules are known as a code because this term is not blatantly stated, but mutually understood by those
living in these disadvantaged communities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aker s social learning theory is evident in Anderson s research in Code of the Street. Aker explains
that the social learning theory attributes learning criminal behavior through the engagement of peers.
This theory can be practical in understanding the code of the streets of minorities in urban
communities. Modern society has put a label on crime in that it is inappropriate and that people should
not participate in it. However, those in disadvantaged communities who abide by the code of the street
allow the denotation of crime to change in their attempts to survive in such conditions. Anderson
states, Children growing up in these circumstances learn early in life that this [criminal activities] is
the way things are (Anderson 134). This mindset is common to those in minority urban communities
that portray the code of the street in terms of crime in the eyes of the

Human Genome Project Research Paper
The Human Genome Project
The Human Genome Project basically was a research program that worked on a goal to get an image
of human genome and get a better understanding of all a human beings genes. DNA is founded on 4
chemical bases, they turn into twisted ladder shaped DNA molecules. And all the the four bases are
what create the genes just placed in different ways and different lengths. One revelation of the human
genome project was when they learned that there are about 20,500 genes. The Human Genome Project
brought many scientist together around the world and each one was an important factor for the project.
It was a publicly funded organization and got funds and support from the Department of Energy and

The information that scientists have gathered can be viewed as a set of inheritable instructions for the
function of a person s development. People still use the tools scientists made during the Human
Genome Project to extend their efforts for characterizing all of the genomes of many different
organisms. Its used a lot in biological research for mice, fruit flies and flatworms. Not only did they
increase the materials scientists can use, they also provided new advanced methods for understanding
and organizing information that came from the Human Genome Project for scientists and other people.
The DNA the scientist used for the project came from volunteers whose identity was kept a secret.
They provided the scientist with samples of DNA for sequencing. This gave them more than enough

Technology Is Eroding All Of Humanity
Over Use of Technology? How technology is eroding all of humanity.
Many people believe technology to be advancing humanity s capabilities, in reality, although there are
some advantages, it has many negative effects on society, and therefore the amount of technology used
should be reduced to ensure the continuing existence of mankind. People of all ages from young
children to adults use technology on a daily basis to learn and do things which were once done
manually. People are slowly losing the ability to do simple actions such as writing a letter or spelling
simple words. There is also an increasing number of health issues found to be the result of excessive
technology usage. To decrease the amount of social and medical conditions in today s society the
technology usage should be decreased and used more safely.
Although the amount of technology used should be reduced it is still a very useful utility and should
not be completely stopped. The development of new technologies, such as mobile phones, Facebook,
email, Skype and FaceTime, have made it easier for people to communicate with other people at any
time anywhere in the world. By developing new technology, society is able to quickly send/receive
messages. For example if you want to give a message to a friend or relative you can just ring, text or
email them, whereas before you would have to hand write a message which would then be hand
delivered.
Technology can also be useful when wanting to find out

Art And Its Effect On Society
There are about a million different colors in the world. There are light colors and dark colors and
colors in between. We can use colors to express ourselves and use them to express our moods. People
are famous because of art and people have been arrested for art too. People can dedicate art to other
people and people can draw themselves too. Million and millions of colors are in the world but only
few are known. More colors are discovered ever day by people who experiment with colors. Making
different shades of every color. For example, if you mix blue and yellow you get green. If you mix
different colors you will get new better colors. Colors are everywhere even if we don t want them to
be.
Colors have lots of meanings. We use many of the same colors but we mix them with other colors and
we get the different shades of these colors. For example, while red is the color most associated with
love, it also the color most frequently associated with hatred, anger, aggression, and war. People who
are angry are said to see red. Red is the color most commonly associated with passion and heat. Blue
is the color between violet and green on the optical spectrum of visible light. Human eyes perceive
blue when observing light with a wavelength between 450 and 495 nanometers, which is between 45
and 49.5 Angstroms. Green is the color between blue and yellow on the spectrum of visible light. It is
evoked by light with a predominant wavelength of roughly 495 570 nm. Pink is a pale Red

Anti obesity effects of polyunsaturated fatty acids
Introduction
In recent years, obesity has become a significant health problem in industrialized countries such as the
United States. Obesity is strongly associated with increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes
mellitus, hypertension, dyslipidemia, coronary heart disease, and congestive heart failure. The World
Health Organization has defined obesity as one of the top ten global health problems. High fat diets
containing large amounts of saturated fat and low amounts of unsaturated fat, may directly increase
the prevalence of obesity (Li, 2008). Research studies have suggested that polyunsaturated fatty acids
have an influence on body adiposity, and may exert anti obesity effects ... Show more content on

These fish oils are not produced in humans, but are not considered essential; although they take part in
important functions such as in cell membranes, gene interactions, and others (Williams, 2009). For
example, omega 3 fatty acid supplementation containing DHA has been observed to lessen the
inflammatory component of several chronic diseases (Browning 2003; Calder 2006). The
cardioprotective effects of supplementing DHA and EPA are well documented; they have been shown
to reduce total serum triacylglycerol concentrations, blood pressure, platelet aggregation, and
inflammation (Breslow 2006; Richter 2003).
Far fewer studies have focused on the anti obesity effects of DHA and EPA. However, these studies
have reported enhanced lipid oxidation, increased thermogenesis, prevention of free fatty acids from
entering adipocytes for lipogenesis, as well as other potential anti obesity effects (Li, 2008).
Underlying Mechanisms of Anti Obesity Effects of PUFA
PUFA decrease energy intake and/or increase energy expenditure
The body s ability to maintain a balance between energy intake and output is controlled by multiple
complex systems and imbalance of this system leads to metabolic symptoms such as obesity. Obesity
normally occurs when energy intake exceeds energy output (Hanbauer et al 2009). It has been shown
that overtime appetite is stimulated when there is a decrease in the circulating level of fat metabolizing
products. An individual s

How the Family Roles Changed in Canadian Culture during...
The 1920s was a changing time in Canadian culture and this affected everyone. The most effect could
be felt on the family, and how responsibilities, duties and roles had changed. Men were coming home
from the war, they had now seen things never thought possible and experienced things that will
forever change them; they came home different. Women were at home waiting, excited, ready to move
on and build to their families and continue their lives. Young girls were excited to have their father s
home, to tuck them in at night and to sit next to their fathers at church on Sunday mornings. And then
there were the boys. Boys lives changed dramatically around the time of the war. This became a
crucial issue for both families and societies. A lot of time, money, and education was spent on the
crisis of boys and their development. The development of boys was altered by the war and can be seen
in their relationships with their mothers, the toys and activities that were available to boy s, and the
advertisements that surround boys clothing during this era.
Mother Blaming:
While the men were away at war mothers took on the responsibility of raising the children. In the
beginning nobody found this to be wrong as it was seen as motherly duty, but later the crisis began to
evolve and mothers were being blamed. Mothers were being blamed for smothering and babying boys
which caused feminization in these boys from a young age. Mothers were seen as the reason boys
were to become sissies.

James Baldwin Notes Of A Native Son Summary
Journal 1
James Baldwin s Notes of a Native Son
As I began reading James Baldwins passage, Notes of a Native son , I was immediately filled with
emotion. He began his very first sentence by stating that his father had died. I started to imagine to
myself, what it would be like if I was Baldwin. I could not imagine what I would do if I lost my father
today. He is my hero. I have some previous knowledge of the Harlem riots because I did a project on
them when I was a junior, but reading Baldwin s first hand experience opened my eyes even further. I
sympathized most with Baldwin when he said that he hardly ever talked to his father before he died.
His father was a mean and scary man. I am so thankful for my dad. He is always there for me and
supports me in all that I do. I talk to him every single day and could not imagine it any other way. In
2009, my uncle committed suicide. It wasn t until after he died that I realized how rarely we actually
talked. I regret that almost every day. Death is a painful eye opener. I really liked the way Baldwin
went into detail describing his father and who he truly was. He explained the way his father treated
others and why he was the way he was. It was because of that detail, that I was able to empathize and
understand why Baldwin resented his father. I would have felt the same way if I would have grown up
with a father like his. It was truly disheartening to read about his father s illness. It completely took
over his body, mentally and

Narrowing and hardening of the artery walls causing buildup of fatty tissues (plaque), cholesterol and
other substances, which may restrict blood flow is referred to as atherosclerosis. Having restriction of
blood flow develops damage to a patients organs and also increases the risk of heart attacks, blood
clots, and strokes overtime (WebMD, 2015). It is said to be the most common form of arteriosclerosis
that forms small patches and arterial spasms. The plaque also known as atheroma, builds up and may
cause the blood clots to burst. Atherosclerosis is considered to be a heart condition, but may also affect
arteries in any part of the body and could be prevented and treated (Mayo Clinic, 2015). The arteries
in the body are blood vessels that transport blood from the heart and through the body. Endothelium,
which is a thin layer of cells that lines the arteries to help keep the inside of the arteries smooth and
toned allowing normal blood flow. The disruption that leads to atherosclerosis begins when an
individual smokes, and has either high blood pressure or high cholesterol; in which begins to form
atheroma. When the endothelium is damaged it causes it to become invasive allowing bad cholesterol
or LDL to enter the artery walls. In return, causing the white blood

Assessing Customer Experiences with Customer Service at My...
Introduction
A recent visit to the service department of the local auto dealership I purchased a car from two years
ago forms the foundation of this analysis. As auto dealerships rely on service departments for the
majority of their revenue I thought the experience would be a mix of pure efficiency and relationship
building. Previous experiences with this dealership have shown them to be not as trustworthy as I had
hoped they would be as well. One of the most critical aspects of transitioning customers from being
treated as members of a transaction to actually being fans is trust (Gronroos, 1994). Trust is such a
critical catalyst to make a customer experience successful that technologies need to better measure and

He nodded and didn t say another word. I asked him for the cost to look at it and he said there would
be no charge. I got the sense that even though the car was under warranty the dealership wanted to still
make money on this repair. That troubled me. I gave the technician the keys and he took the car into
the repair bays, as I went inside to talk to the service manager and ask them what the policy was on
warranty repairs. He told me they were all covered and would take care of it. I asked him if
technicians were on commission for how many repairs they sold and he just laughed and walked away.
To this point in the interaction it was clear the dealership looked at me as more of just another
transaction to be completed during their day. There was no specific focus on how to take the
transaction and transform it into more of a conversation or relationship (Gronroos, 1994). The entire
culture of the dealership seemed to resonate with a transaction mindset, as sales people in the coffee
room asked if I wanted to see the new models in the showroom on sale this weekend (Harris Ogbonna,
1999). One of the sales people had sold me the car that was in for repairs and he started the

My Views On Religion In Euripide s Bakkhai
I was born into a Hindu family in India. Religion has always been a big part of my life growing up,
following various religious traditions and celebrating festivals. However, I do not believe that my
partially religious upbringing has had an affect on me in the sense that I am a religious person today. I
was never forced to abide by any rituals or practices and was always encouraged to explore and learn
about different religions all over the world. Therefore, my views on religion as a whole are extremely
open ended and are always open to deviate. Euripide s Bakkhai, described as arguably the darkest and
most ferocious tragedy ever written does not change my sense of religion, however opens a new

Characteristics Of Beowulf
Beowulf: A True Christian Hero
A hero is someone who demonstrates acts of courage which is accompanied by a high moral character.
A Christian hero not only demonstrates these qualities, but they also stay true to the will of God and
demonstrate a sense of faith. This requires being selfless, obedient in faith, and most importantly
having tremendous courage. The character Beowulf, in the epic poem by the same name, presents all
these characteristics. Throughout the poem his character matures and ultimately becomes a better
leader, which makes these traits all the more present. Beowulf s quality of leadership and passion for
the well being of others truly defines a Christian hero. Exhibiting selflessness is a characteristics that
plays a great deal in how others perceive you. Beowulf was a type of leader that did not think twice
before helping those in need. In many cases he was willing to sacrifice himself for the better good of
his people, which is the ultimate act of selflessness. But in the very beginning, even before he was
king of his own land he exhibited his selfless nature. He did this by coming to the aid of Hrothgar, the
king of the Danes. The following excerpt, Beowulf kindness is revealed, When he heard about
Grendel, Hygelac thane was on home ground, over i Gretland. There was no one else like him alive. In
his day, he was the mightiest man on earth, highborn and powerful. He ordered a boat that would ply
the waves. He announced his plan: to sail the swan s road and seek out that king, the famous prince
who needed defenders. Nobody tried to keep him from going, no elder denied him,der as he was to
them. (Beowulf; lines 194 203). Beowulf went on to defeat of grendel and his mother, two monsters
ploughing Hrothgar and his people. This act gained him respect his selfless act blossomed into the
blessing of him one day becoming a king himself. Beowulf did not have to come to the aid of the king
but did so anyway. He, from the beginning, wanted to help anyone in need, no one could or would
stop him from accomplishing this goal. He sacrifice his life for the wellbeing of people who were in a
neighboring country, it goes to say that he would obviously seek to go beyond that for his own.

Statement of Purpose to Attend a University
I have lived in San Antonio, Texas my entire life. Most of my family, from my mother s side, still lives
here, too. Only two of my cousins have ventured outside of Texas. Everyone else either lives in San
Antonio or surrounding cities. One of my cousins, who still lives in Texas, is attending Texas State
University in San Marcos. He and I are the only two males from my mother s family who have been to
college, so we are each proud of the other, and we know that our family is proud of us. Attending
college is a serious pursuit. For years I struggled with attending college. Happily, having experienced
a few rough semesters, I now see the overall college picture. I had a successful and satisfying six
months of college in 2013. My ambition is to continue working diligently to earn a college degree
within the next two years. I was a talented musician during my first twelve years of school. My
musical skills enabled me to learn violin, piano, and my all time favorite, percussion. I was a leader in
the high school band from being in charge of the drum line, earning first division ratings in every UIL

Ragtime
History From a Point of Fiction History could be taught and understand in various ways. History is an
important aspect of human society. We live within history and encounter it as part of our daily lives. It
could be through television, school, textbook, and even a work of fiction. One famous book published
in 1975 greatly portrays the early 1900s. The name of this historical novel, written by E.L. Doctorow,
is called Ragtime. This novel addresses the lifestyle, changes, and conflicts between 1900 to 1917. It s
tells a series of story, rather than from just one point of view. A novel like Ragtime , provides us a

American man. Events shift from a Jewish family to inventor, like Henry ford. We are shown how
society is portray from their point of view. It s a book that gives insight to explore other figures. A
voice is given to individual of each social groups, which is important to comprehend history. A more
lively force is added to the facts in a way we can relate. Unlike a historical work of fiction, historical
textbooks doesn t provide this human element. Rather than just knowing what happened, novel
explains how the actions impacts each individual in society. We given an insight to why some
characters did what they did and what they experience. With perspective comes opinions from
characters. Emotion is a key value to take in as a portion of history. For example Houdini develops

and how white feels toward African American were all express in Ragtime. It displays both side of the
spectrum. These are important factors to better understand

Women In Sports Research Paper
One of my earliest memories as a child was watching my friends playing soccer in our barrio right in
front of Grandma s house. Although many still believe soccer is a sport exclusively deserved for boys,
girls have shown passion and tremendous sportsmanship for the game. The fever of futbol increases
during the world cup. For me, it s almost impossible to follow all the important leagues out there, but I
don t miss any games during the cup. I know, typically of women right? Well, no. Let s talk about the
magnificent performance of the women s national team. You can blame Hope Solo if you want, but
this team has given a brilliant performance. Yes my friends, women we can play soccer too! But back
then as a kid going to the market safe and unharmed seemed like an impossible task without getting
hurt with one of the balls. I had the same issue at school, all the boys loved to terrorize anyone who
dared come across the soccer field. I don t blame them, Futbol is our passion. We ... Show more

During that time, Honduras wanted to stablish an agrarian reform which was against the Salvadorians
working in Honduran territory. Because of the tension amounted during the games, approximately 300
thousand Salvadorians were mistreated, hurt, and deported back to their country, losing houses and
properties. A few days later, Honduras declared war to El Salvador, this war known as La Guerra del
Futbol or Guerra de las 100 horas it lasted for about 5 days with international organizations such as
ONU intervening during the conflict, but the bloody aftermath left 4,000 dead people and another
15,000 fighting for their lives. During 11 years, a state of war was active between both countries until
1980 relationships were reestablished once again. Nonetheless to say, the sport was used as an excuse
for both governments to plan an attack on each other. In 2009 Honduras once again would mix politics

Qualitative Analysis Of Chemistry Cations
RESULTS DISCUSSION
The experiment used qualitative analysis to determine two cations in an unknown solution. In Part A,
identified either silver or lead that was interfused into the metal nitrate salts solution. In Part B,
calcium or barium would appear. In Part C, another method of qualitative analysis was performed by
cation flame tests. The various metal chloride solutions would be used to observed and recorded the
colored flame of each species. The goal was to practice qualitative strategies to be able to precipitate,
separate and identify the unknown cations in the solution by used lab equipment such as the
centrifuge, disposable pipette, and Bunsen burner.
If the experiment were repeated, some parts of procedure should be modified or improved to shorten
the time of experiment and make the experiment more organized. Such as the Part A, Step 5; after
heated up the test tube in the boiling water, used cold water to cool down the temperature of the test
tube instead of cool it down spontaneously. By modified that it would save more time. Since there
were so many groups doing the same step together, the lab equipment was limit such as the centrifuge.
Students lined up in front of the centrifuge to wait for the others. Students could spread out to the
different part of the experiment, some groups could start with Part A and the other can start with Part
C.
The unknown solution #4 was assigned and analyzed. Followed the steps in Part A to identify the

George Orwell 1984 Essay
1984 Final Paper
It was terribly dangerous to let your thoughts wander when you were in any public place or within
range of a telescreen. The smallest thing could give you away, (Orwell, 79). The quotation above is
from George Orwell s 1984. The meaning behind this is that totalitarian governments cause others to
always feel like their actions are being watched. Because of this, those people feel very paranoid since
they aren t doing whatever the norm is. George Orwell wrote 1984 to show readers that dictatorships
are only harmful and cause many people to be fearful of their every move, and they still exist today.
Orwell provides pieces of absolute power in the book to show readers that many people are afraid of

The character Big Brother is the leader of the Party and everyone follows his rule, just like how today
people have a leader or form of government. In 1984, Big Brother is a dictator, which an example of is
what North Korea is like with Kim Jong un as a singular ruler over the citizens. This example means
that George Orwell was trying to make a novel that would continue for years to explain the dangers of
only having one person making the decisions for the people of their country. Another reason for
including dictatorships and the issues with them was to make sure that all readers for generations to
come would notice that their life was not very different from the life that the people in 1984 were
living in. There were telescreens that watched the members of the Party s every move and making sure
that they were not going against their country in any way. The novel, 1984, includes the telescreens as
an example of what life is like for all citizens today because the leaders of the country can always
have access to anything people do on their technology. The example above shows Orwell wanting to
make the book something that everyone for generations could relate with technology constantly
advancing. George Orwell is also trying to show the reader that the government can constantly see
whatever is being done, and the leaders say it is in order to keep the countries safe. The author is

Essay on Immigration and Birthright Citizenship
Immigration and Birthright Citizenship
Many people feel the issue on immigration and birthright citizenship may have become a touchy
subject. Some people argue that the undocumented citizens or illegal immigrants steal jobs away from
rightful US citizens. Also people say that the undocumented citizens want to have a baby in the United
States of America with the assumption they will grant US citizenship to them as a family. In certain
states the police were allowed to stop anyone that they felt to not hold US citizenship just by looking
at them. With this thinking different ethnic groups have been looked down on and even discriminated
against. Some people just see the color of the person and form an opinion against a certain group ...

If the situation were turned around the feeling of confusion and alienation would hurt so much to think
about how a person thinks what we look like, and possibly become scared of what someone could do
if they found out that the person is undocumented.
Arizona made it tougher for undocumented citizen by making a federal law called the Arizona Senate
Bill 1070. The controversial bill gives Arizona law enforcement the authority to stop people whom
officers have reasonable suspicion of being in the country illegally, detain these individuals while
verifying immigration status, and arrest undocumented immigrants for transfer to ICE custody.
(McFadyen) The article also states The bill, also known as the Support Our Law Enforcement and
Safe Neighborhoods Act also makes it a crime to be in the state illegally and to provide transportation
to someone you know is undocumented. (McFadyen) With that said, it seems to me, it gives the police
in Arizona authority to stop anyone they feel like. It also touches on the subject of racial profiling and
discrimination just by the way a person looks making it ok to stop them. Furthermore, by making this
bill it says that it is ok to look at someone and judge them for what they look like.
Another argument that some people argue is that undocumented immigrants steal jobs away from
rightful American citizens, making it harder for people to find a job. But at the same time the

Thoreau s Message in Walden Essay
Thoreau s Message in Walden
In Walden, Henry D. Thoreau presented a radical and controversial perspective on society that was far
beyond its time. In a period where growth both economically and territorially was seen as necessary
for the development of a premature country, Thoreau felt the opposite. Thoreau was a man in search of
growth within himself and was not concerned with outward improvements in him or society. In the
chapter entitled economy, he argued that people were too occupied with work to truly appreciate what
life has to offer. He felt the root of this obsession with work was created through the misconstrued
perception that material needs were a necessity, rather than a hindrance to true happiness and the ...

Since less work was required; people had more time to appreciate nature and thus enjoyed a happier
life.
Thoreau was very doubtful of the ideas that outward improvements could bring improvements to one s
inner peace. One clear illustration of Thoreau s resistance to progress can be found in the chapter,
Sounds, where he voiced his criticism on technological advancements. At first he was annoyed with
the sound created by the passing trains which hindered his ability to hear the chirping of the birds. As
he stated, The whistle of the locomotive penetrates my woods summer and winter, sounding like the
scream of a hawk sailing over some farmer s yard, informing me that many restless city merchants are
arriving within the circle of the town... (78). Trains also reminded him of the businessman and
tradesman involved in manipulation and profits. Thoreau believed that a technological advancement
such as the train would give people a false impression of heightened freedom, for trains were able to
travel to areas never before imagined and in a time that was thought impossible. He was worried that
people would prefer to take the train than the road less traveled. By taking trains, people missed out on
the beauty of nature. Then he realized that the trains had transported people to many different areas
and that it had enabled the people to experience new things.
Thoreau showed his disapproval

Nucleophilic Substitution Lab Report
Nucleophilic aliphatic substitution is the substitution of one functional group for another functional
group. The substitution is made at a saturated carbon atom. A saturated carbon is a carbon atom that is
sp3 hybridized. For a compound to be considered a nucleophile they must possess certain properties.
Nucleophiles must contain at least one pair of non bonding electrons and be neutral or have a negative
charge. Through nucleophilic substitution the non bonding electrons are donated to the electrophile.
The leaving group can also be either neutral or have a negative charge. Said leaving group must also
accept a pair of bonding electrons from the carbon atom that the leaving group was attached to (1).
The electrons are pulled as the bond between the carbon atom and the leaving group breaks. Some
leaving groups are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Safety is a priority. Always add acid to water, this reduces some of the heat created and does not create
any acid spitting in the hood. If sulfuric acid is spilled and comes in contact with skin, the area should

once the 1 butanol, hydrobromic acid, and sulfuric acid were added was yellow orange in color. After

approximately 5.41%. The calculated yield was low due to a fluctuating temperature during the
reaction and possible impurities formed. The presence of tertiary alcohols creates an increase in the
competitive elimination reaction when treated with phosphorus trihalides. To produce a decent yield of
tertiary alkyl halides the tertiary alcohols should be treated with concentrated hydrogen halides (1).

Star Wars is a science fiction universe, created by the minds of George Lucas and Steven Spielberg,
which has been taking the world by loved since the 70 s. With its only main competitor being Star
Trek, Star Wars has becoming ever more popular ever since its first red carpet premiere in 1977. There
are six known movies, 2 different cartoon television series, countless merchandise sold, and much
more. Recently Disney spent $4 billion for the ownership rights of the franchise. Was this a good idea
to hand over such a great product that has tons of action and adventure that may be deemed too much

All but a hand full were executed on sight. In the next three episodes, also known as the original
trilogy, it centers on a young man, finding his role in the fight against the Galactic Empire. The man
known as Luke Skywalker discovers he is to become a Jedi knight and joins the Rebels to defeat the
Empire. This is what George Lucas created and what Disney plans to build off of. However, the
television series that just finished its seventh season does not follow this timeline. Such example
include the introduction to a padawan, apprentice to a key character, under the teachings of Anakin
Skywalker, who was believed to be the chosen one to defeat all evil. ( StarWars.com ) Nowhere was
there any mention of a padawan to Anakin in any of the movies George Lucas created. Stunts like this
lead people astray with inaccurate information. This is not what George Lucas had in mind. This is
one of some of the reasons how Disney may be ruining a much loved universe. While Star Wars: The
Old Republic, and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, video games created by a company LucasArts,
their goal was to inform on things not related to the timeline shown in the movies and to entertain to
their millions of fans. Disney has released some information on the new episode seven to be released
in 2015, that it will be accurate and correct to the timeline and it will include all the main characters

Character Analysis Of Rose Maxon In Fences By August Wilson
Rose Maxon is the female character in the play Fences by August Wilson. She is married to Troy
Maxon and together they have a son named Cory. The play takes place in the 1950s and it focuses on
racism, oppression, family problems, unity, and infidelity. Particularly Rose, who is a Black woman in
the 50s, without an education, a housewife, and is expected to behave as the caretaker for everyone.
Rose Maxon: duties include being a mother/caretaker, house taker, wife. Puts herself aside for
everyone else s needs. She experiences the struggle and constant wariness of her family s safety. Troy,
is a garbageman who witnesses much of the racism and segregation that occurs during the 1950s. He

According to Sandra G. Shannon, Rose Maxon s focuses are on being a wife, mother and homemaker.
(154) Shannon states that Wilson places Rose as a conformed woman by being the nurturer but also
demands herself some self respect. She is loving, supportive, outspoken but inferior to her husband in
some ways. Rose is not treated like a second class citizen but is expected to be understanding and
forgiving no matter how small or huge the wrong doing is. Rose is a mixture of strong because she
stayed with Troy even though he had an illegitimate child with another woman. She showed such
strength when she took Troy s daughter as her own to raise and told Troy he was a womanless man.
She took Troy s daughter as her own because she told Troy that her daughter is not to blame for her
father s actions. Women s roles are defined by men still in the 1950s, (155) and she loves Troy enough
to accept his flaws up until he confesses having a baby out of wedlock. Women may be forgiving
because they know separation/divorce is looked highly down upon and women rely on their husbands
financially. Also, women who are alone are less likely to succeed, and will run the risk of constantly
meeting worse men. (155) When Troy gives Rose the unexpected news about him becoming a father
through another woman, Rose first is in shock; asks why did he wait eighteen years to do that and
Rose gets angry. She is in

Peaceful Resistance In America
Peaceful resistance positively impacts a free society, particularly in a Democracy such as the United
States. Abraham Lincoln famously described our national foundation as a government of the people,
by the people, for the people , and for such a statement to be true, it is necessary that voices of US
citizens be heard.
The right to peaceful resistance in America can be tied back to our nation s true beginning: The
Declaration of Independence. The document proclaims that it is the Right of the people to alter or
abolish a government in order to create a safer and more secure system (Mirkin 64). With this
ideology in mind, our forefathers crafted the Constitution, and created the Bill of Rights to establish
clarity on the liberties granted

Rhetorical Analysis Of Thomas Paine s The Crisis No. 1
Salema: The Crisis No. 1 is a 16 pamphlet series written by Thomas Paine in December of 1776
(Paine 86). It was a rather successful piece that argued for independence from England and described
the difficulties faced by the colonists because of Britain s tyranny. Paine was mostly targeting the
American patriots and trying to influence them to come together and fight for their independence. He
also included his idea of the colonies being free from British rule. Through his strong use of tone and
figurative language, he got the colonists to picture a tyranny free country.
There are many uses of rhetoric in The Crisis No. 1 . Paine uses a plentiful amount of logos in this
essay. He uses it to explain logically that the colonies would thrive if they were free from British rule.
He pairs his use of logos with lots of pathos. He tries to get the American patriots upset with the
British in order for them to be more willing to fight against them. For example, he uses pathos when
telling the story of the Tory tavern keeper who made a so called ignorant statement in front of his
child. The tone he used when speaking about the tavern keeper seemed almost furious! The impact of
his use of tone leaves the reader appalled. Similarly, he also uses pathos when he equates offensive
war to murder; ...I believe, could have induced me to support an offensive war, for I think it murder...
(Paine 90).
In conclusion, The Crisis No. 1 influenced many ideas in the American Revolution,

  • 2. Alexander III Research Paper Following his father s assassination, Alexander III was advised that it would be difficult for him to be kept safe at the Winter Palace. As a result, Alexander relocated his family to the Gatchina Palace, located twenty miles south of St. Petersburg, making it his primary residence. Under heavy guard he would make occasional visits into St. Petersburg, but even then he would stay in the Anichkov Palace, as opposed to the Winter Palace. In the 1860s Alexander fell madly in love with his mother s lady in waiting, Princess Maria Elimovna Meshcherskaya. Dismayed to learn that Prince Wittgenstein had proposed to her in spring 1866, he told his parents that he was prepared to give up his rights of succession in order to marry his beloved Dusenka . On 19 May 1866, Alexander II informed his son that Russia had come to an agreement with the parents of Princess Dagmar of Denmark, his fourth cousin. Before then, she had been the fiancée of his late elder brother Nicholas. At first Alexander refused to travel to Copenhagen, declaring that he did not love Dagmar and his desire to marry Maria. In response the enraged emperor ordered Alexander to go straight to Denmark and propose to Princess Dagmar. The Tsesarevich then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite the antipathy that Alexander had towards his stepmother, Princess Catherine Dolgorukov, he nevertheless allowed her to remain in the Winter Palace for some time after his father s assassination and to retain various keepsakes of him. (Spencer, 1878, p.57) What you see and what you hear depends a great deal on where you are standing. It also depends on what sort of person you are . (Lewis, 1994, p.108) The mathematics teacher builds examples into their arsenal of resources to help demonstrate the mathematical principles they are trying to teach (Dreyfus, 1994). However, not all examples are equally constructed and provide the same learning experience to the learner. Spencer (1978) believes that learners who know principles are more prepared than rule focussed learners to tackle problems. This is the same within mathematics, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The methodology will describe how the study will be conducted and why. Observations will be recorded on the process of constructing examples and how they are employed in the classroom. Percentage examples will be constructed and these will be used in the teaching of percentages to a Year 7 class. Further observations will be made on how the learners approach and conduct the examples. Analysis of the response to these examples will be made where recommendations will be offered to improve my application as a mathematics teacher. It is intended that this investigation and use of Variation Theory will improve my understanding of the construction of examples and thus improve the learners experience. BACKGROUND The study was conducted in a Leicestershire high school that accepts learners from year 7 to 9. Year 7s enter directly from several feeder primary schools and generally leave to join a single upper school where they sit GCSEs. Although it does not take the learners through formal exams, the school s primary focus is on the preparation to attain qualifications. This means its Scheme of Work (SOW) is fixed to meeting the National Curriculum (NC). The class studied is a year 7 mixed ability mathematics class. This consisted of 32 learners with a boy to girl ratio of 2:1. There are several behavioural issues regards some learners disrupting the class and, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Social Bond Theory Through the evolution of social bonds, individuals have always been under scrutiny to abide by a list of rules in order to be successful in their community. This ideology is made evident in the book, The Code of the Street, by Elijah Anderson. Anderson dissects and exposes the various issues dealing with families in urban minority communities. These families are labeled as street and decent . The connotation of the term code of the street is a set of accepted and understood set of rules in which street and decent families abide by in order to function in modern day street society. These regulatory rules are known as a code because this term is not blatantly stated, but mutually understood by those living in these disadvantaged communities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Aker s social learning theory is evident in Anderson s research in Code of the Street. Aker explains that the social learning theory attributes learning criminal behavior through the engagement of peers. This theory can be practical in understanding the code of the streets of minorities in urban communities. Modern society has put a label on crime in that it is inappropriate and that people should not participate in it. However, those in disadvantaged communities who abide by the code of the street allow the denotation of crime to change in their attempts to survive in such conditions. Anderson states, Children growing up in these circumstances learn early in life that this [criminal activities] is the way things are (Anderson 134). This mindset is common to those in minority urban communities that portray the code of the street in terms of crime in the eyes of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Technology Is Eroding All Of Humanity Over Use of Technology? How technology is eroding all of humanity. Many people believe technology to be advancing humanity s capabilities, in reality, although there are some advantages, it has many negative effects on society, and therefore the amount of technology used should be reduced to ensure the continuing existence of mankind. People of all ages from young children to adults use technology on a daily basis to learn and do things which were once done manually. People are slowly losing the ability to do simple actions such as writing a letter or spelling simple words. There is also an increasing number of health issues found to be the result of excessive technology usage. To decrease the amount of social and medical conditions in today s society the technology usage should be decreased and used more safely. Although the amount of technology used should be reduced it is still a very useful utility and should not be completely stopped. The development of new technologies, such as mobile phones, Facebook, email, Skype and FaceTime, have made it easier for people to communicate with other people at any time anywhere in the world. By developing new technology, society is able to quickly send/receive messages. For example if you want to give a message to a friend or relative you can just ring, text or email them, whereas before you would have to hand write a message which would then be hand delivered. Technology can also be useful when wanting to find out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We can use colors to express ourselves and use them to express our moods. People are famous because of art and people have been arrested for art too. People can dedicate art to other people and people can draw themselves too. Million and millions of colors are in the world but only few are known. More colors are discovered ever day by people who experiment with colors. Making different shades of every color. For example, if you mix blue and yellow you get green. If you mix different colors you will get new better colors. Colors are everywhere even if we don t want them to be. Colors have lots of meanings. We use many of the same colors but we mix them with other colors and we get the different shades of these colors. For example, while red is the color most associated with love, it also the color most frequently associated with hatred, anger, aggression, and war. People who are angry are said to see red. Red is the color most commonly associated with passion and heat. Blue is the color between violet and green on the optical spectrum of visible light. Human eyes perceive blue when observing light with a wavelength between 450 and 495 nanometers, which is between 45 and 49.5 Angstroms. Anti obesity effects of polyunsaturated fatty acids Introduction In recent years, obesity has become a significant health problem in industrialized countries such as the United States. Obesity is strongly associated with increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, dyslipidemia, coronary heart disease, and congestive heart failure. The World Health Organization has defined obesity as one of the top ten global health problems. High fat diets containing large amounts of saturated fat and low amounts of unsaturated fat, may directly increase the prevalence of obesity (Li, 2008). These fish oils are not produced in humans, but are not considered essential; although they take part in important functions such as in cell membranes, gene interactions, and others (Williams, 2009). For example, omega 3 fatty acid supplementation containing DHA has been observed to lessen the inflammatory component of several chronic diseases (Browning 2003; Calder 2006). The cardioprotective effects of supplementing DHA and EPA are well documented; they have been shown to reduce total serum triacylglycerol concentrations, blood pressure, platelet aggregation, and inflammation (Breslow 2006; Richter 2003). Far fewer studies have focused on the anti obesity effects of DHA and EPA. However, these studies have reported enhanced lipid oxidation, increased thermogenesis, prevention of free fatty acids from entering adipocytes for lipogenesis, as well as other potential anti obesity effects (Li, 2008). Underlying Mechanisms of Anti Obesity Effects of PUFA PUFA decrease energy intake and/or increase energy expenditure The body s ability to maintain a balance between energy intake and output is controlled by multiple complex systems and imbalance of this system leads to metabolic symptoms such as obesity. Obesity normally occurs when energy intake exceeds energy output (Hanbauer et al 2009). • 9. How the Family Roles Changed in Canadian Culture during... The 1920s was a changing time in Canadian culture and this affected everyone. The most effect could be felt on the family, and how responsibilities, duties and roles had changed. Men were coming home from the war, they had now seen things never thought possible and experienced things that will forever change them; they came home different. Women were at home waiting, excited, ready to move on and build to their families and continue their lives. Young girls were excited to have their father s home, to tuck them in at night and to sit next to their fathers at church on Sunday mornings. And then there were the boys. Boys lives changed dramatically around the time of the war. This became a crucial issue for both families and societies. A lot of time, money, and education was spent on the crisis of boys and their development. The development of boys was altered by the war and can be seen in their relationships with their mothers, the toys and activities that were available to boy s, and the advertisements that surround boys clothing during this era. Mother Blaming: While the men were away at war mothers took on the responsibility of raising the children. In the beginning nobody found this to be wrong as it was seen as motherly duty, but later the crisis began to evolve and mothers were being blamed. Mothers were being blamed for smothering and babying boys which caused feminization in these boys from a young age. Mothers were seen as the reason boys were to become sissies. ... • 10. James Baldwin Notes Of A Native Son Summary Journal 1 James Baldwin s Notes of a Native Son As I began reading James Baldwins passage, Notes of a Native son , I was immediately filled with emotion. He began his very first sentence by stating that his father had died. I started to imagine to myself, what it would be like if I was Baldwin. I could not imagine what I would do if I lost my father today. He is my hero. I have some previous knowledge of the Harlem riots because I did a project on them when I was a junior, but reading Baldwin s first hand experience opened my eyes even further. I sympathized most with Baldwin when he said that he hardly ever talked to his father before he died. His father was a mean and scary man. I am so thankful for my dad. He is always there for me and supports me in all that I do. I talk to him every single day and could not imagine it any other way. In 2009, my uncle committed suicide. It wasn t until after he died that I realized how rarely we actually talked. I regret that almost every day. Death is a painful eye opener. I really liked the way Baldwin went into detail describing his father and who he truly was. He explained the way his father treated others and why he was the way he was. It was because of that detail, that I was able to empathize and understand why Baldwin resented his father. I would have felt the same way if I would have grown up with a father like his. It was truly disheartening to read about his father s illness. It completely took over his body, mentally and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hannaman, MS, ND, CPC, CMRS, CCMA November 18, 2015 Narrowing and hardening of the artery walls causing buildup of fatty tissues (plaque), cholesterol and other substances, which may restrict blood flow is referred to as atherosclerosis. Having restriction of blood flow develops damage to a patients organs and also increases the risk of heart attacks, blood clots, and strokes overtime (WebMD, 2015). It is said to be the most common form of arteriosclerosis that forms small patches and arterial spasms. The plaque also known as atheroma, builds up and may cause the blood clots to burst. Atherosclerosis is considered to be a heart condition, but may also affect arteries in any part of the body and could be prevented and treated (Mayo Clinic, 2015). The arteries in the body are blood vessels that transport blood from the heart and through the body. Endothelium, which is a thin layer of cells that lines the arteries to help keep the inside of the arteries smooth and toned allowing normal blood flow. The disruption that leads to atherosclerosis begins when an individual smokes, and has either high blood pressure or high cholesterol; in which begins to form atheroma. Introduction A recent visit to the service department of the local auto dealership I purchased a car from two years ago forms the foundation of this analysis. As auto dealerships rely on service departments for the majority of their revenue I thought the experience would be a mix of pure efficiency and relationship building. Previous experiences with this dealership have shown them to be not as trustworthy as I had hoped they would be as well. One of the most critical aspects of transitioning customers from being treated as members of a transaction to actually being fans is trust (Gronroos, 1994). I gave the technician the keys and he took the car into the repair bays, as I went inside to talk to the service manager and ask them what the policy was on warranty repairs. He told me they were all covered and would take care of it. I asked him if technicians were on commission for how many repairs they sold and he just laughed and walked away. To this point in the interaction it was clear the dealership looked at me as more of just another transaction to be completed during their day. There was no specific focus on how to take the transaction and transform it into more of a conversation or relationship (Gronroos, 1994). The entire culture of the dealership seemed to resonate with a transaction mindset, as sales people in the coffee room asked if I wanted to see the new models in the showroom on sale this weekend (Harris Ogbonna, 1999). Religion has always been a big part of my life growing up, following various religious traditions and celebrating festivals. I was never forced to abide by any rituals or practices and was always encouraged to explore and learn about different religions all over the world. Therefore, my views on religion as a whole are extremely open ended and are always open to deviate. • 18. Characteristics Of Beowulf Beowulf: A True Christian Hero A hero is someone who demonstrates acts of courage which is accompanied by a high moral character. A Christian hero not only demonstrates these qualities, but they also stay true to the will of God and demonstrate a sense of faith. This requires being selfless, obedient in faith, and most importantly having tremendous courage. The character Beowulf, in the epic poem by the same name, presents all these characteristics. Throughout the poem his character matures and ultimately becomes a better leader, which makes these traits all the more present. Beowulf s quality of leadership and passion for the well being of others truly defines a Christian hero. Exhibiting selflessness is a characteristics that plays a great deal in how others perceive you. Beowulf was a type of leader that did not think twice before helping those in need. In many cases he was willing to sacrifice himself for the better good of his people, which is the ultimate act of selflessness. But in the very beginning, even before he was king of his own land he exhibited his selfless nature. He did this by coming to the aid of Hrothgar, the king of the Danes. The following excerpt, Beowulf kindness is revealed, When he heard about Grendel, Hygelac thane was on home ground, over i Gretland. There was no one else like him alive. In his day, he was the mightiest man on earth, highborn and powerful. He ordered a boat that would ply the waves. He announced his plan: to sail the swan s road and seek out that king, the famous prince who needed defenders. Nobody tried to keep him from going, no elder denied him,der as he was to them. The smallest thing could give you away, (Orwell, 79). The quotation above is from George Orwell s 1984. The meaning behind this is that totalitarian governments cause others to always feel like their actions are being watched. Because of this, those people feel very paranoid since they aren t doing whatever the norm is. In 1984, Big Brother is a dictator, which an example of is what North Korea is like with Kim Jong un as a singular ruler over the citizens. This example means that George Orwell was trying to make a novel that would continue for years to explain the dangers of only having one person making the decisions for the people of their country. Another reason for including dictatorships and the issues with them was to make sure that all readers for generations to come would notice that their life was not very different from the life that the people in 1984 were living in. There were telescreens that watched the members of the Party s every move and making sure that they were not going against their country in any way. The novel, 1984, includes the telescreens as an example of what life is like for all citizens today because the leaders of the country can always have access to anything people do on their technology. The example above shows Orwell wanting to make the book something that everyone for generations could relate with technology constantly advancing. If the situation were turned around the feeling of confusion and alienation would hurt so much to think about how a person thinks what we look like, and possibly become scared of what someone could do if they found out that the person is undocumented. Arizona made it tougher for undocumented citizen by making a federal law called the Arizona Senate Bill 1070. The controversial bill gives Arizona law enforcement the authority to stop people whom officers have reasonable suspicion of being in the country illegally, detain these individuals while verifying immigration status, and arrest undocumented immigrants for transfer to ICE custody. (McFadyen) The article also states The bill, also known as the Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act also makes it a crime to be in the state illegally and to provide transportation to someone you know is undocumented. In a period where growth both economically and territorially was seen as necessary for the development of a premature country, Thoreau felt the opposite. Thoreau was a man in search of growth within himself and was not concerned with outward improvements in him or society. Thoreau was very doubtful of the ideas that outward improvements could bring improvements to one s inner peace. One clear illustration of Thoreau s resistance to progress can be found in the chapter, Sounds, where he voiced his criticism on technological advancements. At first he was annoyed with the sound created by the passing trains which hindered his ability to hear the chirping of the birds. As he stated, The whistle of the locomotive penetrates my woods summer and winter, sounding like the scream of a hawk sailing over some farmer s yard, informing me that many restless city merchants are arriving within the circle of the town... (78). Trains also reminded him of the businessman and tradesman involved in manipulation and profits. Thoreau believed that a technological advancement such as the train would give people a false impression of heightened freedom, for trains were able to travel to areas never before imagined and in a time that was thought impossible. He was worried that people would prefer to take the train than the road less traveled. By taking trains, people missed out on the beauty of nature. Then he realized that the trains had transported people to many different areas and that it had enabled the people to experience new things. Thoreau showed his disapproval ... It was a rather successful piece that argued for independence from England and described the difficulties faced by the colonists because of Britain s tyranny. Paine was mostly targeting the American patriots and trying to influence them to come together and fight for their independence. He also included his idea of the colonies being free from British rule. Through his strong use of tone and figurative language, he got the colonists to picture a tyranny free country. There are many uses of rhetoric in The Crisis No. 1 . Paine uses a plentiful amount of logos in this essay. He uses it to explain logically that the colonies would thrive if they were free from British rule. He pairs his use of logos with lots of pathos. He tries to get the American patriots upset with the British in order for them to be more willing to fight against them. For example, he uses pathos when telling the story of the Tory tavern keeper who made a so called ignorant statement in front of his child. The tone he used when speaking about the tavern keeper seemed almost furious! The impact of his use of tone leaves the reader appalled. Similarly, he also uses pathos when he equates offensive war to murder; ...I believe, could have induced me to support an offensive war, for I think it murder... (Paine 90).
