Summary Of Celia A Slave

Melton McLaurin s, Celia, A Slave (1991) Report
The federal and state policies
In the 19th century, the south part of the US exercised high levels of slavery, and this made even the
southern state laws and policies to be amended. However, the northern part was not in support of
slavery, and this made the federal laws and policies to have a great contradiction with the southern
states laws, for example, Missouri state laws. According to the book Celia, A Slave authored by
Melton McLaurin s which is a 1991 series, there were a lot of changes that were made on the law in
1819 (McLaurin, 1991). These rules had an enormous impact both positive and negative in the case of
Celia, the slave girl. In the states of Missouri in 1855 which is the same year that Celia killed her
master and burned his body in her fireplace, the state has passed a policy that it was illegal and a crime
for any man to take any woman unlawfully against her wish and will.
The law allowed women being taken by force by men to satisfy their sexual urges to act in self
defense even if the action of self defense resulted in the death of the man. It was also passed that it
was a criminal offence for any person to attack a person intentionally hence causing harm or even
death of the person (McLaurin, 1991). On the federal level, the constitution has abolished the slave
trade and stated that all people had equal rights and protection. Also, the federal and state policies had
been passed that murder or attempted murder was illegal and punishable by the law. These policies
and laws had been created and implemented to demolish slave trade and promote human rights. All
these policies that had been passed could affect Celia s trial but mainly in a contrary manner due to the
intentions and the manner the crime was committed.
The state law that favored Celia was the one claiming that it was wrong and legally unacceptable for a
man to take any woman by force and that the woman had the right to retaliate acting in self defense.
This is a law that could have been used to prove that the action Celia took was in self defense and that
she did not have prior motives for killing her

Disadvantages Of Year-Round Schooling
YEAR ROUND SCHOOLING Many families are satisfied about year round schooling; 88% or more
are positive about year round schooling. Only 2% of the 88% disliked the idea of year round
schooling. Even though 48.1% of teachers, students, and families were unpleased first hearing of year
round schooling, they ended up having a positive reaction later (Varner, 1). Many people are having
positive reactions to year round schooling because student seem to be more interested in their classes,
there seems to be less discipline problems, higher testing scores, many of people are wanting year

Year round schooling seems to have students more absorbed in their classes. Year round schooling
also has many different impacts on students, teachers, and their families. However, year round
schooling does have its disadvantages. If teachers aren t prepared for the changes, the student s
education may have to suffer (Lyttle, 5). Some teachers also don t like year round schooling because
they feel summer school is the best option for behind students (Varner, 1). Although, year round
schooling has more advantages than disadvantages. Unlike traditional schools, year round schooling

Who Is Lily In The Giver
The character I chose to do for my Character Analysis was Lily. Lily is Jonas sister in the community.
She has dark hair and dark eyes and her hair ribbons are always untied. At the beginning of the book,
Lily is a seven, so she wears a front button coat. Then, later in the novel, when Lily turns eight, she
starts wearing a front button coat with smaller buttons and small pockets as a sign that they are old
enough to start keeping track of small belongings . She has very long dreams and always tells a
lengthy description at breakfast. Since she is only eight, she says she is looking forward to getting a
bicycle when she turns nine. She bickers occasionally with Jonas because they are siblings, but they
always make up, because they live in a perfect world. When the family starts taking care of Gabriel,
she becomes attached to him and it is clear she would be a good nurturer, just like her father. She also
has a stuffed comfort object that is an elephant. She usually gets in trouble with her family because of
her careless mannerisms. She talks quickly without thinking and is also very impatient. ... Show more

Other characters in the story think she is talkative and speaks without thinking. However, they also
think she is practical, caring, well informed, and nurturing. Every night, the family units discuss their
feelings throughout the book. Lily almost always has something to say. In the beginning of the book,
Lily is angry because a visiting child from another community kept getting in front of her in the line to
the slide. After she realizes that the other child probably didn t know the rules of the community, she
recalls that she felt stupid when she and her classmates went to another school in a different
community and Lily had not learned what the teacher there was talking about. Lily feels comforted
when she has her stuffed elephant and that s why she doesn t want to give it

Theory Of Evolution By Natural Selection Research Paper
Hello class,
Q: The theory of evolution by natural selection requires variability of a given trait. Why is variability
necessary and where does it come from?
Darwin s theory of evolution and natural selection came about when he visited the Galapagos Island
and discovered that there were animals of all different types living there. While he was on the island,
he seen a variety of Finches that contained a wide range of phenotypes which happened to be linked to
their survival. On a certain part of the island he found a finche specie that adapted to their
environment due to the absent of other species on the island. Therefore they learned to able to adapt to
new niches. The food that they found required their beaks to gradually conform to the

In my opinion, I believe iron smelting is an efficient way of extracting iron as it has many companies
working with/against each other in finding the best way to make this process cost efficient, fast, safe
and environmentally friendly (as much as possible).
4. Identify the product(s) of separation and their uses
The product of smelting iron ore is pig iron. Alone, pig iron has limited uses, these include: basic
metal utensils, pot metals, fencing or railing, decorative metal pieces and pig iron pellets or ingots that
can be loaded into a plane for a balanced flight. Pig iron can also be converted to wrought iron and
steel and the uses of these include:
Wrought Iron: railings, hooks, chains, rivets and railway couplings.
Steel: construction, transport, energy, packaging and appliances and industry
5. Discuss issues associated with wastes from the industrial separation processes used
The smelting of iron utilises vast amounts of energy and thus creates greenhouse gas emissions. Large
amounts of gangue (slag) are also a problem produced as a waste product that needs to be disposed

Can the Jewish, Christian and Islamic Communities Coexist...
I have been advised by the ruling council of Neutralia to conduct research regarding whether the three
communities, each following a different religion, (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) will be able to
coexist together harmoniously and peacefully in our nation. I have looked at all the three holy
scriptures as well as history and present day examples either supporting or opposing the idea of them
being able to live side by side without conflict.
The Bible
Looking at the holy scripture of Christianity, the Bible, I found that christians are supposed to spread
their religion as much as possible as they want to offer salvation for as many as possible, but are not to
act out as the non believers unwillingness will eventually punish them when they go to hell. (King
James Bible Online Revelation 21:8) Further, it talks about the Jews really following Satan and not
God/G d, as he has blinded them from seeing that the Messiah has come as they teach in Christianity,
since they are still waiting. It says that Jews say they are Jews but really aren t, referring to them as the
synagogue of Satan. (King James Bible Online Revelation 2: 9)
The Qur an
Qur an tells its followers that they should respect the other two Abrahamic religions and their
scriptures, as they are people of the scriptures/book . (The Noble Qur an 29:46, 3:64 65 and 12:111,
Noorhan Abbas, Dr. Eric Atwell, Root, David) Moreover, it claims that all believers can enter paradise

INTRODUCTION Not finance. Not strategy. Not technology. It is teamwork that remains the ultimate
competitive advantage, both because it is so powerful and so rare. A friend of mine, the founder of a
company that grew to a billion dollars in annual revenue, best expressed the power of teamwork when
he once told me, If you could get all the people in an organization rowing in the same direction, you
could dominate any industry, in any market, against any competition, at any time. Whenever I repeat
that adage to a group of leaders, they immediately nod their heads, but in a desperate sort of way. They
seem to grasp the truth of it while simultaneously surrendering to the impossibility of actually making
it happen. And that is where the rarity of teamwork comes into play. For all the attention that it has
received over the years from scholars, coaches, teachers, and the media, teamwork is as elusive as it
has ever been within

Competitive Analysis Essay
UThe competitive analysis is an essential research process to conduct. By examining and researching
it allows me to see what content and features draws new users. It also acts as inspiration research for
ideas to develop during wireframing. The main competitors that would rival the Snapchat app both
have a modern aesthetics and it s clear how to use. Instagram, the Facebook owned photo sharing app
with 600 million monthly users, targeted Snap head on last August when it launched Instagram
Stories, a feature that very closely resembles Snapchat s own My Story feature. Similar to My Story,
Instagram Stories lets people string together several photos and videos, but with fewer filters and
lenses, to appear a top Instagram users feeds. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, users may join common interest user groups organised by workplace, school, hobbies or
other topics, and categorise their friends into lists such as People From Work or Close Friends . A
modern app offers almost the same functionality. The key difference of this app is the navigation and
different colour functionality. However, overall it is well structured and easy to use. However, with
what I have discovered I believe it will out top these apps. Through using the applications of my
competitors and having a clearly look, it allowed me to ensure I satisfy my users and find out ways to
advance the application as stated earlier. On a weekly basis if there are meetings, this ensures the
deadlines are met and if there are any changes it will be fully discussed on how the overall process is
going. Also, through talking to user s who use the current apps, that I am competing with allows me to
have a broader understanding on how to ensure it is at the top. As well as, working with a properly
structured budget points out what aspects of the business produce money and which ones use it, which
forces management to consider whether it should drop some parts of the business, or expand in others.

What I Have Learned About Privacy And Security
I have learned there is extremely more to the HIM department than I realized. This HIM department
located at Sykes is the main location for all of the Northern regions HIM needs. I was able to learn
that the HIM department helps answer frequently asked questions and concerns regarding the HIM
processes in addition to indicating opportunities where they can facilitate effective outcomes dealing
with patient satisfaction. In the future AMG wants to be paperless, also for the health information
functions to be efficient, making more use of their EMR automation. The HIM department is also
divided into smaller sections: loose report transport, scanning, release of information, record
management, and duplicate accounts. Over the past several weeks I have had the opportunity to
observe and actually do several of the tasks of the ROI department. In the classroom, we discussed
HIPAA regulations when it comes to ROI functions, however; actually seeing it in practice reinforces
what I was taught in class about privacy and security. ROI is a very complex process; a person needs
to be mindful when releasing patient s personal health information and that all requests submitted are
HIPAA compliant. There are two authorization forms one that is for the release of standard health
information and a special authorization for some patients with some information dealing with mental
health, HIV test results, treatment for alcohol, or drug abuse. A good deal of time goes into reading

Thanks to this name, ATB can give more tangible aspect to its services and better promote loyalty and

Unit 4 Heat And Temperature
Unit 4: Heat and Temperature
Topic A: Illustrate and explain how human needs have led to technologies for obtaining and
controlling thermal energy and to increased use of energy resources.
Investigate and interpret examples of heat related technologies and energy used in the past (e.g.
domestic and industrial purposes)
Steam engines were the first engine type to see use in industrial purposes. A fire heats water which
turns to steam and the steam then has the ability to move things. They were first invented by Thomas
Newcomen in 1705, and James Watt (a Scottish inventor) made big improvements to steam engines in
1769. Steam engines powered all early cars, steamboats and factories.

Describe the effect of heat on the motion of particles, and explain changes of state using the particle
model of matter.
There are four basic components for thermal energy (heat): 1. All matter is made up of tiny particles
called atoms. These can only be seen with special microscopes. 2. The atoms are always moving they
all have kinetic energy. 3. The particles have space between them. Different states of matter have
different amounts of space. 4. Adding heat (energy) to matter makes the particles move more quickly.
Since faster moving things have more kinetic energy, adding heat increases the energy of the particle.
5. Cooling it down decreases the amount of kinetic energy and slows the movement down.
Distinguish between heat and temperature, and explain temperature using the concept of kinetic
energy and the particle model of matter.
Temperature: the average kinetic energy of individual atoms and molecules
Heat Energy: The collection of random molecules in action.

2. The European s lead and contents in mass media are causing and maintaining the European
domination in China. Based on what we discussed about the media topic in class, I believe media is
also a way to cause and maintain the European domination in societies. For instance, the content of
media usually reports the positive sides of the European things such as places, enviroment, and
behaves instead of the negative sides. More clearly, the mass media constantly extols the Europeans
among Asians. Therefore, this brainwashing praises from media improves the social status of
Europeans in different places, especially in Asian places. 3. The modern policies from goverments are
also causing and maintaining the European domination in societies. It just likes what we had
disccussed in class that the US government provides poor education s policies to the Asians. Since
Asians have a poor education in US, no one can obtain a better job in knowledge based society in US.

How Has Life Changed Since 1800 Essay
How has life changed since 1800?
Life as we know it today in the modern world, is significantly different to the lives that our
predecessors lived during the period 1500 1800. The changes across the centuries are the result of a
process of advancements over time. This essay will examine life in the period 1500 1800 as
highlighted in the work of George Blainey (2000) and will compare key differences of life in this early
period, against life in the modern world today. Throughout this essay, the main focus will be based on
three areas which have seen significant change over this period of time: the production of food, work
practices and the standard of living. The advancements in these three areas, has led to societies living

409). While these workers could be sure of not going hungry, this meant the take home wages were
low.
Living standards as described by Blainey (2000) were bleak. Most people lived in one roomed, small
stone houses, often with four or more sharing one bed. Homes often remained unheated due to scarcity
of wood (Blainey 2000, p. 423). People were largely uneducated and knew little about healthcare.
Sewerage was disposed of in the same rivers that were used to drink and wash from. These
contaminated rivers were used to supply water to the growing crops. This had a huge impact on health,
causing infection in around two out of every three people in rural areas (Blainey 2000, p. 415). Lack
of hygiene and knowledge of healthcare led to shorter lifespans.
Life today in 2014 is vastly different to the period 1500 1800 as described by Blainey (2000). Survival
no longer hinges on hunting and gathering food. In fact many people today give little or no thought to
food production. Instead, we drive to a supermarket and buy whatever we want to eat. We have access
to many restaurants and fast food outlets, so we not only have ample food at our fingertips, we don t
even have to prepare it if we choose not to. Advancements in production and using machines in place
of humans (Henslin, Possamai and Possamai Inesedy 2011, p. 139) mean food is now farmed and

This put the topic more towards forgiveness rather than anything else. The only topic discussed, as I

how they handled the situation. I will refrain from going into further detail about any of the members
of the group to keep their anonymity. The meeting concluded with the serenity prayer. I was not
familiar with this prayer so I just held the hands of those near me and bowed my head out of respect.
Specific attendees of the meetings appeared more active and attentive than others. Some of them
seemed as though they did not want to be there and looked miserable. About one or two of the
members even fell asleep a couple of times. Maybe some members went because they had to or
because they just wanted to help tell themselves that they are trying. This really interested me because
it is important to take notice that some people go and progress due to being active and others are just
forced. In the case of being forced it is very easy to go to the meeting and just not be attentive or
active. During the meeting I felt very enlightened. The topic of forgiveness is very broad and is even
relevant in my own life. The viewpoint on the topic was very different and interesting. They talked
more about being forgiving of ourselves because we are the ones that cause ourselves to react
negatively to life s daily hassles and stressors. They also spoke on the control

political views and the social doings of the Athenians and the organization of the Athenians economy.
With the Golden Age, many groups worked together that wouldn t normally interact. The biggest
example of that is the relationship between Athenians and their democracy.

age was the diversity of political views that the Athenians followed. Too start in document 3 written
by Isocrates an Athenian political statesman, orator, and writer and made in the year 346 BCE and the
point they are trying to get across is that back then they did not have a political system/government
which in turn made the people do whatever they wanted which was bad. Then in document 4 written
by Aeschines an Athenian political statesmen, orator, and writer, and made in the year 330 BCE. The
author s point of view from this document is that how the three forms of government, autocracy,
oligarchy, and democracy work and the principles of them are. Also in document 5 written by
Thucydides an Athenian warrior, statesmen, and historian wrote in the year 410 BCE, what the author
is trying to say it all the reason why democracies are good and the outcomes of it. Finally, in document

author s hatred towards tyranny.

Budget Definition
Not counting savings, I was able to come in under budget by $11.03. It was really difficult to create a
budget on such a low monthly income. The first thing I did was to locate an apartment. The upper
range I had in mind for my apartment was $400, and the cheapest one I could find was $399 per
month. It was also very difficult trying to determine whether I wanted to drive a car. Since the
expenses for car insurance and gas would be really high, I decided to not use a car. Fortunately, I got a
job as a cashier at a nearby Walmart. Thus, I could just walk to work. In addition, I found it difficult to
find a relatively inexpensive after school activity for the kids until I got off work. The budget for
groceries was also a tough amount to determine. Even if I use coupons, it would be difficult for my
family to stay within the budget every month for groceries. Overall, I budgeted the bare minimum to
my wants so that I could set aside money to my family s needs. In order to meet all the expenses and
live comfortably this family would need to be in the middle class.
I would completely disagree with them. Even if a poor person works 40 hours a week, it is still really
difficult to get by every month, especially with family members to support. Many people ... Show

Social Worker Errors
According to Reamer (2005) every social worker is capable of inadvertently inserting incorrect facts
into and omitting important facts from case documentation. To deal with such inconsistences, social
workers should always acknowledge their errors and make clear that the new entry occurred after the
error was discovered (Reamer, 2005). Most importantly, take steps to be honest and sincere with
injured parties, during which social workers accept responsibility for any mistakes they may have
made (Reamer, 2008). Moreover, social workers have a duty to respond to errors in a way that protects
and minimizes harm to the clients (Reamer, 2008). Thus, it is even more important to remain aware of
the potentially harmful consequences not only of our actions, but also of our failures to act (Pope,
2005). Reamer (2008) also believes that social workers must recognize that they have self interested
reasons to respond to error constructively.

Decibel Portfolio Essay
The intensity I of a sound wave is measured in watts per metre squared ( ). The lowest intensity that
the average human ear can detect, i.e. the threshold of hearing, is denoted by , where . The loudness of

Critical Factors On Human Dignity And Capital Punishment
Antiepa Munatsi S00150701
This discussion is going to investigate and evaluate the critical factors in relation to human dignity and
capital punishment utilising the case study of Andrew and Myuran. A discussion would be made on
the issues surrounding the unfair forms of punishments that are used to deal with those who
committed unimaginable crimes in the eyes of society. I believe this is an issue where human dignity
is a critical factor because there is no respect for individual autonomy and Andrew and Myuran were
not given the chance and hence their humanity and dignity violated. Perspectives 1 and 2 would be
outlined and an analysis would be made to each in relationship to the case study. Also, understanding

Question 1
Dwight Conquergood wrote about how the legal system in America tried to normalise capital
punishment to make it seem less cruel by introducing other ways of execution. This was done by using
the lethal injection as in McVeigh?s case (Conquergood, 2002). He advocates against the use of capital
punishment and in his discussion highlighted that he attended many demonstrations with those against
capital punishment. In addition, he highlights that there is bias from authorities when handling death
cases. In one of the cases, the police lost documents which would have been given to the defense
lawyers to fight against the sentence. However, the individual was put to death and he considered that
death penalty to be unfair and unjust and that there has been instances of innocent people being on
death row. He highlighted that minorities make up the largest number of prisoners on the death penalty
despite representing a small percentage of the small population and argued that there was bias against
certain minorities. The author indicated that African Americans are 19% more likely to be put on death
row as compared to other races even though they might have committed the same crime
(Conquergood, 2002). His view can be put into quadrant 1A which refers to dignity obtained by being
a human being (Kirchhoffer, 2013). However, when one is on death row, this dignity is taking away
and therefore he argues that offenders

unemployment rates, and encompass other issues that plague poor inner city neighborhoods like

Texas. Late August through September brings swarms of migrating hummingbirds to the feeders, each
hummingbird claiming a feeder of its own for few days before moving on down south. This time of
year, my yard becomes a war zone between hummingbirds as well as against yellow jackets and bees!
Hummingbirds are very territorial and will jealously guard their feeder from all other hummers who
want a sip of the sweet nectar. Although my many feeders are spread quite a bit apart so more
hummingbirds can feed in peace, there appears to be a Ruby throated female that is determined to
defend three feeders. As she squeaks and zips over to a feeder that another hummingbird dared to
approach, other hummingbirds converge on the feeder she just left, sneaking some nectar while she is
away. She will viciously fly straight for the intruder, sometimes even flying right into them, chasing
him away. She ll perch on top of pole from which the feeder hangs, looking around as if to say, See? I
got him and I ll get you if you try anything stupid like trying to get some of my nectar. From dawn to
dusk, she ll bully the other hummers. Clearly, this lil lady is a hummer with an attitude! ... Show more

Analysis Of John Gardner s Beowulf
John Gardner offers an alternate interpretation of the old english epic Beowulf by narrating the
experiences of the monster Grendel, after whom the book is named. Grendel conveys himself as a
homicidal, ravenous beast, only capable of destruction and chaos. Therefore, one can conclude that
Grendel is indeed evil, and that he well deserves the cessation of his existence. However, depending
on the philosophical ideologies and the relative perspective one finds self in, they may conclude
differently. Nevertheless, the reader may likely to find one s self both sympathizing with, and scorning
Grendel, because, as the 10th century old english monster says, balance is everything .
Evil, like many other things we humans take as absolutes, is ultimately a matter of perspective.
President Barack Obama once said ...evil is senseless. It s beyond reason . Senselessness immorality
often coincide in topics surrounding evil. However, as many philosophers and political thinkers alike
question, what defines morality ? A Nihilist may think that all values are baseless and that nothing can
be known or communicated , nor would one have [any] purpose, other than, perhaps, an impulse to
destroy (Pratt). Grendel has a nihilistic epiphany early in his life, when he narrates I understood that
the world was nothing: a mechanical chaos of casual, brute enmity on which we stupidly impose our
hopes and fears (Garder 21 22). Grendel also performs a plethora of destructive acts in the novel,

Hamlet and Rosencrantx and Guildenstern Are Dead
Compare and contrast the ways in which the two plays Hamlet and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are
Dead reflect the values of the contexts in which they were written.
The plays Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead by Tom Stoppard and Hamlet by William
Shakespeare were composed in vastly different contexts and the nature of the plays greatly reflect the
context in which they were composed. Hamlet is clearly a product of the times of the early 17th
century as Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead is a product of the Swinging Sixties as it has very
modern views on many issues that have been raised throughout time.

This unrest is expressed from early in the play with lines such as There s something rotten in the state
of Denmark .
Every character is clearly defined in Shakespeare s play and nobody is confused about who they are or
where they came from. The opposite of this, however, is Rosencrantz and Guildenstern in the sixties
interpretation of the text. They seem to be very confused about their own personal identity and this can
be seen frequently throughout the play when they and other characters mix their names up almost
every time. The effect of this is humorous, but also comments on the confusion of identity that was
being felt in the Sixties. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern as characters very much reflect the ideas of the
Sixties in this way, as they seem to be drifting throughout the play as observers, and are minor players.
They are not sure about themselves, question their own identity and cannot find much purpose in their
lives, which makes death difficult for them to comprehend. Because they are such minor players and
tend not to take themselves as seriously as the traditional characters such as Hamlet himself, they can
easily bring Hamlet down to a human level. They did this in the play when they quickly flattened
Hamlet s wit. In all these respects it is plain to see how the sixties version of the play reflected the
context in which it was composed.
What makes the contrast between the two plays so

The Definition Of Auteur
The debate about the definition of auteur has been going on since the 1940 s, the original writers of
the theory consist of a group of French cinema enthusiasts such as; Truffaut, Jean Luc Godard, Eric
Rohmer and Claude Chabrol. The theory first emerged in their magazine Cahier du cinema. It was in
this magazine that they wrote the basis of the theory. As John Caughie explains Traditionally, the
reference to the auteur in French film criticism had identified either the author who wrote the script,
or, in the more general sense of the term, the artist who created the film. In the work of Cahiers the
latter sense came to replace the former, and the auteur was the artist whose personality was written in
the film (Caughie, 1981). Also many of them believed in that the auteur should be the audio visual
voice who uses the cinema to show a personal statement and also depict their version of reality.

The Importance Of The Green Light In The Great Gatsby
The first moment the green light is displayed within the novel is at Nick s first acknowledgment of
Gatsby. At this point in the novel, no interaction has occurred between Nick and Gatsby but only the
understanding that Gatsby throws parties where no one is selectively invited until Nick had been
invited. When Nick had first noticed Jay Gatsby he states
He stretched out his arms toward the dark water in a curious way, and far as I was from him I could
have sworn he was trembling. Involuntarily I glanced seaward and distinguished nothing except a
single green light, minute and far away, that might have been the end of a dock. (Fitzgerald 24)
Nick has been able to notice how the green light had left Gatsby trembling and staring toward nothing
except the green light. The author had been able to use this moment to show how everyone s green
light often leaves them trembling due to the fear of what it takes to reach the goal and how we are
often left staring solely at our goal. Through the first few chapters of the novel Nick continues to have
interactions with Gatsby but no knowledge is shared until Jordan reveals peculiar facts about Gatsby
himself. They were so engrossed in each other that she didn t see me until I was five feet away

A Direct Link Between Carbon Dioxide And Global Warming
Damon Matthews, a professor in Concordia University s Department of Geography, found a direct
connection between carbon dioxide and global warming. Matthew s studies show that same global
temperature increase, regardless of when or over what period of time the emission occurs. The effect
of adding more carbon dioxide is predicted in the theory of greenhouse gases. Swedish scientist,
Syante Arrhenius, first proposed the theory in 1896, based on earlier work by Fourier and Tyndall. At
the same time, many scientists have reached the same conclusion. If we increase the amount of
greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, the Earth s temperature will increase. Energy is absorbed from
the sun in the form of visible light and ultraviolet radiation. The earth then releases some of this
energy as infrared radiation. Greenhouse gases in the atmosphere captures some of this heat, then re
emit it in all directions. During this process, carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases keep the Earth
s surface 33 degree Celsius warmer than it would be without them. According to an ongoing
temperature analysis conducted by a scientist at NASA s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS),
the average global temperature on Earth has increased by about 0.8 degree Celsius. Since 1975, two
thirds of the warming has occurred at a rate of roughly 0.15 0.20 degree Celsius per decade. Our lives
involve the emission of theses dangerous greenhouse gases (Bushnell 25). Carbon dioxide has

Walmart And Its Impact On The United States
Descriptive essay title Walmart is in virtually every community in the United States. It offers their

2016 Outlook For Automotive M A
The 2016 Outlook for Automotive M A
The easy money policy of the Federal Reserve and the cash swollen balance sheets of corporations
and private equity firms alike contributed to an explosion of deal making in 2015. Long term growth
in vehicle production and the positive outlook for vehicle sales over the next five years have made
automotive one of the leading sectors for M A. We expect deal activity in the automotive sector to
remain strong during 2016, but to taper off from 2015 levels. The biggest factor that will suppress deal
activity this year is the impending interest rate increase by the Federal Reserve. Other deal squelching
factors include geopolitical instability (e.g., in the Middle East and Russia) and the relative scarcity of
companies that can be purchased at bargain prices.
Favorable Conditions Exist for Automotive M A
Even though macroeconomic factors will have a chilling effect on deal activity, automotive is likely to
remain one of the hottest sectors for M A. During its resurgence over the past five years, the
automotive industry has been highly profitable. In addition, the growth prospects for the industry are
favorable, especially in light of the overall low growth economic environment. Despite the recovery,

Choice E is the best answer. Cushing syndrome is a clinical syndrome associated with an excess of
glucocorticoids(GCs), due either to elevated levels of endogenous cortisol or exogenous use of
glucocorticoid medications such as prednisone, prednisolone, hydrocortisone, and betamethasone.
Common signs and symptoms include altered fat deposition (including moon facies and buffalo hump
, referring to fat deposition in the face and the upper back), weight gain, hypertension, striae, acne,
hyperglycemia, and central muscle weakness. Treatment involves cessation of glucocorticoid therapy,
though a taper is crucial, as abrupt withdrawal can lead to acute adrenal insufficiency and shock. In
non endocrine disorders, GCs are commonly given in pharmacologic (therapeutic) doses to suppress
inflammation. In endocrine disorders, however, corticosteroid doses are often given at or close to
physiologic doses (rather than in therapeutic ranges). GC associated toxicity appears to be related to
both the average dose and cumulative duration of GC use. However, for most GC related adverse
events, threshold dose or treatment duration has not been established. Choice A is not the best answer.

The Movement Of The Jewish Culture
Furthermore, by using the feminist interpretation within this passage, Jesus didn t want to discard
tradition but wants to reform the freedom of woman from the restrictions and limitations of the rules
and regulations of the Jewish culture and the tradition by bringing more equality in society. Women s
lives in Jesus time were overruled and dominated by a male figure , who were to control every aspect
in their lives. This was due to the fact that women were seen to be unholy more inclined to being
sinful, and were submissive; hence one of Jesus missions became to reform the image of women.
Hence by using the feminist interpretation method, I can conclude that Jesus intentions of preaching to
Mary, was for him to reform the Jewish culture, by spreading hope and strength among women
standing up for a new culture and a generation which will create a new and equal society.
Therefore, by using the feminist interpretation within this passage, we can conclude that in Jesus time,
Jesus was a strong advocate to reforming society and allowing women to become equals to men, as
God has created us all in the image and likeness of himself, hence why all humans are precious and a
gift because God is precious and a gift. Jesus said Mary has chosen the better path , which implies the
message of salvation is significant to all people. Hence, everyone is eligible to listen to the words of
the Lord not just men but also women. Therefore, this passage, emphasises the message

Coal Is A Nonrenewable Fossil Fuel
It is clear that our country is approaching turmoil as the population continues to grow and our
dependence on electrical power increases. With limited economic resources at our disposal, we must
ensure that future power plants run on the same primary fuel. With that said, I hope you carefully
consider my recommendations, as they are essential in maintaining the current and future state of our
country. Although using coal as our primary energy resource has minor sociopolitical and scientific
complications, the strategies to address these problems and the social, political, scientific, and
economic advantages greatly outweigh the setbacks. While coal is a nonrenewable fossil fuel, it will
still provide our country enough energy to last over 20 years. Coal deposits in our country are
plentiful, making it a more readily available resource than natural gas or nuclear energy. Since we will
eventually extract the coal, it is logical to use it now to fuel our expanding economy. More
importantly, the method for extraction, mountaintop removal mining, is a generally safe approach that
presents nominal risks for workers. As a result, choosing coal as our country s primary fuel resource
will diminish sociopolitical backlash. In addition, coal proves to be extremely economically viable due
to its high yield factor, allowing it to produce high amounts of energy with minimal effort for
extraction. By using coal, we are saving the time and money needed to educate and teach citizens the

Suspense In The Tell-Tale Heart And The Monkey s Paw
Two feet from the door, the dog froze, stopping mid step. With these words the reader begins to get a
feeling in his gut that something ominous is happening. This is one of the many ways that an author
can cause suspense in a story. In the stories Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe and The Monkey s
Paw by William Wymark Jacobs, suspense is created through cause and effect relationships where
details such as repetition, unclear explanations, twisted dialogue, and dark undertones cause the reader
to feel suspense.
With The Monkey s Paw by William Wymark Jacobs, the cause and effect relationships are centered
on unclear explanations and dark undertones, more than twisted dialogue or repetition. In The Monkey
s Paw , a family in a small town in winter come across a magic paw, given to them by their friend ...

The Tell Tale Heart tells the story through the words of the madman, who killed a man to rid himself
of his eyes. After completing the deed, the madman confessed to the police who came to investigate a
report of a scream because he feared he could still hear the man s heartbeat. The suspense in The Tell
Tale Heart is created through repetition and twisted dialogue, where the narrator repeats phrases to
warn the reader of a decision or event before it happens, and poorly disguises intents in a way that lets
the reader distrust the sanity of the speaker. For example, Poe repeats this phrase from page 92 It was
a low, dull, quick sound much such a sound as a watch makes when enveloped in cotton. on page 94.
As shown before in the story, it was followed by uncontrollable rage that the reader cannot help but
predict and fear. This repetition of events causes suspense by linking the future event with a past one.
This distrust of proposed sanity and outcomes by the reader is another challenging but well scripted
way of creating suspense in a

Black, Black And Black
As one compares Marvel and DC characters, it can be seen that many of the characters are almost
identical. For example, Black Widow and Black Canary are two female superheroes from Marvel and
DC graphic novels respectively. These two female crime fighters play key roles on their teams, have
great skills, and are exceedingly agile. However, which character is the better superheroine? Marvel s
Black Widow is far superior to Black Canary in her more consistent background and history, more
widespread experience, and more numerous skills. Admittedly, it is true that Black Canary far exceeds
Widow in terms of her role as a part of a team. Black Widow played a key role as one of the Avengers,
but she then took up the mantle of leadership from Captain America because he left active Avengers
duty following internal ethical disputes regarding the Kree Shi ar War (Fichera). In contrast, Black
Canary has experience leading the Justice League, the Birds of Prey, and the Outsiders to name a few.
Black Canary has been an important figure in all of her teams, even when she was not a leader. Over
her crime fighting career, Black Canary has fought alongside Batman, Supergirl, Green Arrow, and
Aquaman, to name a few. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . In regards to their backgrounds, Black
Widow has a more stable history that becomes more elaborate with her every appearance. Black
Widow was born around 1928

Egoism And Egoism In Peter Parker s Spider Man
The stimulus that I have chosen for this internal assessment is a scene from the movie, Spider Man 2.
Peter Parker struggles to find a balance between his Spider man life and his life as a citizen; his grades
are steadily declining at university, he gets fired from his job and cannot find any time for his friends.
In the scene that I selected, Parker realizes that he has a choice, that there are no obligations for him to
climb walls and fight crime for a safer environment. He then decides to throw his Spider Man costume
in a bin and forget about his super hero life, in order to focus on his own life. As a result, his life as an
individual is thriving, his grades at university are getting better, and he doesn t have to fight crime
anymore, which offers him more time for his beloved ones and personal ambitions.
150 words Should an individual act for his own benefit? Or should he act for the sake of others? In
ethics it is assumed that right actions demand an individual to act for the sake of others, this concept is
known as altruism. However this view is challenged by the concept of egoism: the idea of putting our
own interests to benefit ourselves before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is clear that an unjust man who has possession of the ring would act egoistically. But what about the
righteous man? Since he would not have any consequences for what he does, he does not feel fear, in
that case why would he act altruistically? According to Glaucon, he would not act altruistically, as
there are no consequences to his actions. I personally think that it depends on a lot of factors and the
person himself. For example a priest that has acted altruistically throughout his life will probably act
altruistically even while he possesses the ring of Gyges. He probably does not want to act egoistically
and the way he was brought up and educated will influences the ethics of choices he will

Frame Narrative
The way in which a story is organized or complied adds to the ideas, themes, and character of the
story. A frame narrative is a way in which a story is told were a main story leads reader into other
stories within. Essentially a frame narrative is a story within another story. As in the story One
Thousand and One Night the frame narrative is used to tell many different stories within the main
story. Although the stories in One Thousand and One Nights are separate from the main story the
stories are still relative to the main idea. In One Thousand and One Night the separate stories within
are used to delay execution of one of the main characters. In the story of Canterbury tales the frame
narrative is used to pass the time of a long journey ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
King Shahrayar is persuaded by the frame narrative, or the stories with One Thousand and One
Nights, to revaluate his morals and unjust killing of dozens of innocent women. Just as in One
Thousand and One Nights the Canterbury tales also uses a frame narrative to add to the central ideas
and message of the story. The Canterbury tales examines a group of people who are making a
pilgrimage to Canterbury. The journey is quite a long one and it is suggested by the host that they each
tell stories to pass the time of their long journey. So each member of the group begins to tell a separate
story which is indicative of the frame narrative. Although, each stories differ from one another they all
add in some way to the overall story of Canterbury Tales. Some stories such as the Night s Tale are
about great valor and chivalry, while other are less serious and more satirical. Here this quote is
expressing what the travelers will do along their journey to pass the time as said by the host: Each one
of you, to make our journey short, Shall tell two stories, as we ride, I mean, Toward Canterbury; and
coming home again Shall tell two other tales he may have heard Of happenings that some time have
occurred (2066). Also, since they will be all together for such a long journey it is nice that they get to
know one another more personally. This also adds to the overall idea of the story. The frame narratives
or stories within each tell

The Power Of Napoleon Bonaparte
To die is nothing, but to live defeated and without glory, is to die every day (J.Christopher Herold) a
quote emperors, kings and leaders live by. The glory of power and victory is feeling conquering any
death. Napoleon Bonaparte, French Emperor is one who acknowledged in the power of glory. Even as
a young boy Bonaparte was fascinated in war and battle tactics, his father was a lawyer who taught
him the capacity of words. Napoleon Bonaparte was destined to be a leader, his determination and lust
to win, gave him the position of army general and from there he ascended to emperor. His drive for the
military force reshaped the world. Napoleon Bonaparte ruled through untelligence and reputation is an
effective leader because of his military control and strategic skills, as well as the use of his education
to manipulate and conquer much of Europe.
Through manipulation and making decisions to benefit to the majority of the population Napoleon
Bonaparte achieved power, Bonaparte was an intelligent man and knew how to persuade people to
believe and trust in him. He would do this through his speeches, where he would inspire many with
such loyalty and worship ( Dugdale 9). Bonaparte attains the trust of his citizens and much of Europe
by creating the deceptive idea of propaganda which was regular in his civilians life; such as his claim
of equality for all ( Obstifeld 125). Napoleon also tried to provide a life that was favorable to his
citizens which gained him many followers

  • 2. Summary Of Celia A Slave Melton McLaurin s, Celia, A Slave (1991) Report Name Institute Melton McLaurin s, Celia, A Slave (1991) Report The federal and state policies In the 19th century, the south part of the US exercised high levels of slavery, and this made even the southern state laws and policies to be amended. However, the northern part was not in support of slavery, and this made the federal laws and policies to have a great contradiction with the southern states laws, for example, Missouri state laws. According to the book Celia, A Slave authored by Melton McLaurin s which is a 1991 series, there were a lot of changes that were made on the law in 1819 (McLaurin, 1991). These rules had an enormous impact both positive and negative in the case of Celia, the slave girl. In the states of Missouri in 1855 which is the same year that Celia killed her master and burned his body in her fireplace, the state has passed a policy that it was illegal and a crime for any man to take any woman unlawfully against her wish and will. The law allowed women being taken by force by men to satisfy their sexual urges to act in self defense even if the action of self defense resulted in the death of the man. It was also passed that it was a criminal offence for any person to attack a person intentionally hence causing harm or even death of the person (McLaurin, 1991). On the federal level, the constitution has abolished the slave trade and stated that all people had equal rights and protection. Also, the federal and state policies had been passed that murder or attempted murder was illegal and punishable by the law. These policies and laws had been created and implemented to demolish slave trade and promote human rights. All these policies that had been passed could affect Celia s trial but mainly in a contrary manner due to the intentions and the manner the crime was committed. The state law that favored Celia was the one claiming that it was wrong and legally unacceptable for a man to take any woman by force and that the woman had the right to retaliate acting in self defense. This is a law that could have been used to prove that the action Celia took was in self defense and that she did not have prior motives for killing her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She has dark hair and dark eyes and her hair ribbons are always untied. At the beginning of the book, Lily is a seven, so she wears a front button coat. Then, later in the novel, when Lily turns eight, she starts wearing a front button coat with smaller buttons and small pockets as a sign that they are old enough to start keeping track of small belongings . She has very long dreams and always tells a lengthy description at breakfast. Since she is only eight, she says she is looking forward to getting a bicycle when she turns nine. She bickers occasionally with Jonas because they are siblings, but they always make up, because they live in a perfect world. When the family starts taking care of Gabriel, she becomes attached to him and it is clear she would be a good nurturer, just like her father. I have been advised by the ruling council of Neutralia to conduct research regarding whether the three communities, each following a different religion, (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) will be able to coexist together harmoniously and peacefully in our nation. I have looked at all the three holy scriptures as well as history and present day examples either supporting or opposing the idea of them being able to live side by side without conflict. The Bible Looking at the holy scripture of Christianity, the Bible, I found that christians are supposed to spread their religion as much as possible as they want to offer salvation for as many as possible, but are not to act out as the non believers unwillingness will eventually punish them when they go to hell. A friend of mine, the founder of a company that grew to a billion dollars in annual revenue, best expressed the power of teamwork when he once told me, If you could get all the people in an organization rowing in the same direction, you could dominate any industry, in any market, against any competition, at any time. Whenever I repeat that adage to a group of leaders, they immediately nod their heads, but in a desperate sort of way. They seem to grasp the truth of it while simultaneously surrendering to the impossibility of actually making it happen. And that is where the rarity of teamwork comes into play. This HIM department located at Sykes is the main location for all of the Northern regions HIM needs. I was able to learn that the HIM department helps answer frequently asked questions and concerns regarding the HIM processes in addition to indicating opportunities where they can facilitate effective outcomes dealing with patient satisfaction. In the future AMG wants to be paperless, also for the health information functions to be efficient, making more use of their EMR automation. The HIM department is also divided into smaller sections: loose report transport, scanning, release of information, record management, and duplicate accounts. Over the past several weeks I have had the opportunity to observe and actually do several of the tasks of the ROI department. In the classroom, we discussed HIPAA regulations when it comes to ROI functions, however; actually seeing it in practice reinforces what I was taught in class about privacy and security. ROI is a very complex process; a person needs to be mindful when releasing patient s personal health information and that all requests submitted are HIPAA compliant. The particles have space between them. Different states of matter have different amounts of space. 4. Adding heat (energy) to matter makes the particles move more quickly. These contaminated rivers were used to supply water to the growing crops. I was not familiar with this prayer so I just held the hands of those near me and bowed my head out of respect. Specific attendees of the meetings appeared more active and attentive than others. Some of them seemed as though they did not want to be there and looked miserable. About one or two of the members even fell asleep a couple of times. Maybe some members went because they had to or because they just wanted to help tell themselves that they are trying. This really interested me because it is important to take notice that some people go and progress due to being active and others are just forced. In the case of being forced it is very easy to go to the meeting and just not be attentive or active. During the meeting I felt very enlightened. The topic of forgiveness is very broad and is even relevant in my own life. The viewpoint on the topic was very different and interesting. Things that changed were the diversity of political views and the social doings of the Athenians and the organization of the Athenians economy. With the Golden Age, many groups worked together that wouldn t normally interact. The biggest example of that is the relationship between Athenians and their democracy. The first example of the relationship between the Athenians and their democracy during the golden age was the diversity of political views that the Athenians followed. The first thing I did was to locate an apartment. The upper range I had in mind for my apartment was $400, and the cheapest one I could find was $399 per month. It was also very difficult trying to determine whether I wanted to drive a car. Since the expenses for car insurance and gas would be really high, I decided to not use a car. Fortunately, I got a job as a cashier at a nearby Walmart. Thus, I could just walk to work. In addition, I found it difficult to find a relatively inexpensive after school activity for the kids until I got off work. The budget for groceries was also a tough amount to determine. Even if I use coupons, it would be difficult for my family to stay within the budget every month for groceries. Overall, I budgeted the bare minimum to my wants so that I could set aside money to my family s needs. This was done by using the lethal injection as in McVeigh?s case (Conquergood, 2002). He advocates against the use of capital punishment and in his discussion highlighted that he attended many demonstrations with those against capital punishment. In addition, he highlights that there is bias from authorities when handling death cases. In one of the cases, the police lost documents which would have been given to the defense lawyers to fight against the sentence. However, the individual was put to death and he considered that death penalty to be unfair and unjust and that there has been instances of innocent people being on death row. He highlighted that minorities make up the largest number of prisoners on the death penalty despite representing a small percentage of the small population and argued that there was bias against certain minorities. The author indicated that African Americans are 19% more likely to be put on death row as compared to other races even though they might have committed the same crime (Conquergood, 2002). His view can be put into quadrant 1A which refers to dignity obtained by being a human being (Kirchhoffer, 2013). Analysis Of John Gardner s Beowulf John Gardner offers an alternate interpretation of the old english epic Beowulf by narrating the experiences of the monster Grendel, after whom the book is named. Grendel conveys himself as a homicidal, ravenous beast, only capable of destruction and chaos. Therefore, one can conclude that Grendel is indeed evil, and that he well deserves the cessation of his existence. However, depending on the philosophical ideologies and the relative perspective one finds self in, they may conclude differently. Nevertheless, the reader may likely to find one s self both sympathizing with, and scorning Grendel, because, as the 10th century old english monster says, balance is everything . Evil, like many other things we humans take as absolutes, is ultimately a matter of perspective. President Barack Obama once said ...evil is senseless. It s beyond reason . Senselessness immorality often coincide in topics surrounding evil. However, as many philosophers and political thinkers alike question, what defines morality ? A Nihilist may think that all values are baseless and that nothing can be known or communicated , nor would one have [any] purpose, other than, perhaps, an impulse to destroy (Pratt). Grendel has a nihilistic epiphany early in his life, when he narrates I understood that the world was nothing: a mechanical chaos of casual, brute enmity on which we stupidly impose our hopes and fears (Garder 21 22). This unrest is expressed from early in the play with lines such as There s something rotten in the state of Denmark . Every character is clearly defined in Shakespeare s play and nobody is confused about who they are or where they came from. The opposite of this, however, is Rosencrantz and Guildenstern in the sixties interpretation of the text. They seem to be very confused about their own personal identity and this can be seen frequently throughout the play when they and other characters mix their names up almost every time. The effect of this is humorous, but also comments on the confusion of identity that was being felt in the Sixties. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern as characters very much reflect the ideas of the Sixties in this way, as they seem to be drifting throughout the play as observers, and are minor players. They are not sure about themselves, question their own identity and cannot find much purpose in their lives, which makes death difficult for them to comprehend. Because they are such minor players and tend not to take themselves as seriously as the traditional characters such as Hamlet himself, they can easily bring Hamlet down to a human level. The Definition Of Auteur The debate about the definition of auteur has been going on since the 1940 s, the original writers of the theory consist of a group of French cinema enthusiasts such as; Truffaut, Jean Luc Godard, Eric Rohmer and Claude Chabrol. The theory first emerged in their magazine Cahier du cinema. It was in this magazine that they wrote the basis of the theory. As John Caughie explains Traditionally, the reference to the auteur in French film criticism had identified either the author who wrote the script, or, in the more general sense of the term, the artist who created the film. In the work of Cahiers the latter sense came to replace the former, and the auteur was the artist whose personality was written in the film (Caughie, 1981). A Direct Link Between Carbon Dioxide And Global Warming Damon Matthews, a professor in Concordia University s Department of Geography, found a direct connection between carbon dioxide and global warming. Matthew s studies show that same global temperature increase, regardless of when or over what period of time the emission occurs. The effect of adding more carbon dioxide is predicted in the theory of greenhouse gases. Swedish scientist, Syante Arrhenius, first proposed the theory in 1896, based on earlier work by Fourier and Tyndall. At the same time, many scientists have reached the same conclusion. If we increase the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, the Earth s temperature will increase. Energy is absorbed from the sun in the form of visible light and ultraviolet radiation. The earth then releases some of this energy as infrared radiation. Greenhouse gases in the atmosphere captures some of this heat, then re emit it in all directions. During this process, carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases keep the Earth s surface 33 degree Celsius warmer than it would be without them. According to an ongoing temperature analysis conducted by a scientist at NASA s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), the average global temperature on Earth has increased by about 0.8 degree Celsius. Since 1975, two thirds of the warming has occurred at a rate of roughly 0.15 0.20 degree Celsius per decade. Our lives involve the emission of theses dangerous greenhouse gases (Bushnell 25). We expect deal activity in the automotive sector to remain strong during 2016, but to taper off from 2015 levels. The Movement Of The Jewish Culture Furthermore, by using the feminist interpretation within this passage, Jesus didn t want to discard tradition but wants to reform the freedom of woman from the restrictions and limitations of the rules and regulations of the Jewish culture and the tradition by bringing more equality in society. Women s lives in Jesus time were overruled and dominated by a male figure , who were to control every aspect in their lives. This was due to the fact that women were seen to be unholy more inclined to being sinful, and were submissive; hence one of Jesus missions became to reform the image of women. Hence by using the feminist interpretation method, I can conclude that Jesus intentions of preaching to Mary, was for him to reform the Jewish culture, by spreading hope and strength among women standing up for a new culture and a generation which will create a new and equal society. Therefore, by using the feminist interpretation within this passage, we can conclude that in Jesus time, Jesus was a strong advocate to reforming society and allowing women to become equals to men, as God has created us all in the image and likeness of himself, hence why all humans are precious and a gift because God is precious and a gift. Jesus said Mary has chosen the better path , which implies the message of salvation is significant to all people. Hence, everyone is eligible to listen to the words of the Lord not just men but also women. Therefore, this passage, emphasises the message ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Coal Is A Nonrenewable Fossil Fuel It is clear that our country is approaching turmoil as the population continues to grow and our dependence on electrical power increases. With limited economic resources at our disposal, we must ensure that future power plants run on the same primary fuel. With that said, I hope you carefully consider my recommendations, as they are essential in maintaining the current and future state of our country. Although using coal as our primary energy resource has minor sociopolitical and scientific complications, the strategies to address these problems and the social, political, scientific, and economic advantages greatly outweigh the setbacks. While coal is a nonrenewable fossil fuel, it will still provide our country enough energy to last over 20 years. Coal deposits in our country are plentiful, making it a more readily available resource than natural gas or nuclear energy. Since we will eventually extract the coal, it is logical to use it now to fuel our expanding economy. More importantly, the method for extraction, mountaintop removal mining, is a generally safe approach that presents nominal risks for workers. As a result, choosing coal as our country s primary fuel resource will diminish sociopolitical backlash. In addition, coal proves to be extremely economically viable due to its high yield factor, allowing it to produce high amounts of energy with minimal effort for extraction. By using coal, we are saving the time and money needed to educate and teach citizens the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Suspense In The Tell-Tale Heart And The Monkey s Paw Two feet from the door, the dog froze, stopping mid step. With these words the reader begins to get a feeling in his gut that something ominous is happening. This is one of the many ways that an author can cause suspense in a story. In the stories Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe and The Monkey s Paw by William Wymark Jacobs, suspense is created through cause and effect relationships where details such as repetition, unclear explanations, twisted dialogue, and dark undertones cause the reader to feel suspense. With The Monkey s Paw by William Wymark Jacobs, the cause and effect relationships are centered on unclear explanations and dark undertones, more than twisted dialogue or repetition. In The Monkey s Paw , a family in a small town in winter come across a magic paw, given to them by their friend ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Tell Tale Heart tells the story through the words of the madman, who killed a man to rid himself of his eyes. After completing the deed, the madman confessed to the police who came to investigate a report of a scream because he feared he could still hear the man s heartbeat. The suspense in The Tell Tale Heart is created through repetition and twisted dialogue, where the narrator repeats phrases to warn the reader of a decision or event before it happens, and poorly disguises intents in a way that lets the reader distrust the sanity of the speaker. For example, Poe repeats this phrase from page 92 It was a low, dull, quick sound much such a sound as a watch makes when enveloped in cotton. on page 94. As shown before in the story, it was followed by uncontrollable rage that the reader cannot help but predict and fear. This repetition of events causes suspense by linking the future event with a past one. This distrust of proposed sanity and outcomes by the reader is another challenging but well scripted way of creating suspense in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Black, Black And Black As one compares Marvel and DC characters, it can be seen that many of the characters are almost identical. For example, Black Widow and Black Canary are two female superheroes from Marvel and DC graphic novels respectively. These two female crime fighters play key roles on their teams, have great skills, and are exceedingly agile. However, which character is the better superheroine? Marvel s Black Widow is far superior to Black Canary in her more consistent background and history, more widespread experience, and more numerous skills. Admittedly, it is true that Black Canary far exceeds Widow in terms of her role as a part of a team. Black Widow played a key role as one of the Avengers, but she then took up the mantle of leadership from Captain America because he left active Avengers duty following internal ethical disputes regarding the Kree Shi ar War (Fichera). In contrast, Black Canary has experience leading the Justice League, the Birds of Prey, and the Outsiders to name a few. Black Canary has been an important figure in all of her teams, even when she was not a leader. Over her crime fighting career, Black Canary has fought alongside Batman, Supergirl, Green Arrow, and Aquaman, to name a few. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . • 45. Egoism And Egoism In Peter Parker s Spider Man The stimulus that I have chosen for this internal assessment is a scene from the movie, Spider Man 2. Peter Parker struggles to find a balance between his Spider man life and his life as a citizen; his grades are steadily declining at university, he gets fired from his job and cannot find any time for his friends. In the scene that I selected, Parker realizes that he has a choice, that there are no obligations for him to climb walls and fight crime for a safer environment. He then decides to throw his Spider Man costume in a bin and forget about his super hero life, in order to focus on his own life. As a result, his life as an individual is thriving, his grades at university are getting better, and he doesn t have to fight crime anymore, which offers him more time for his beloved ones and personal ambitions. 150 words Should an individual act for his own benefit? Or should he act for the sake of others? In ethics it is assumed that right actions demand an individual to act for the sake of others, this concept is known as altruism. However this view is challenged by the concept of egoism: the idea of putting our own interests to benefit ourselves before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is clear that an unjust man who has possession of the ring would act egoistically. But what about the righteous man? Since he would not have any consequences for what he does, he does not feel fear, in that case why would he act altruistically? According to Glaucon, he would not act altruistically, as there are no consequences to his actions. I personally think that it depends on a lot of factors and the person himself. For example a priest that has acted altruistically throughout his life will probably act altruistically even while he possesses the ring of Gyges. He probably does not want to act egoistically and the way he was brought up and educated will influences the ethics of choices he will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Frame Narrative The way in which a story is organized or complied adds to the ideas, themes, and character of the story. A frame narrative is a way in which a story is told were a main story leads reader into other stories within. Essentially a frame narrative is a story within another story. As in the story One Thousand and One Night the frame narrative is used to tell many different stories within the main story. Although the stories in One Thousand and One Nights are separate from the main story the stories are still relative to the main idea. In One Thousand and One Night the separate stories within are used to delay execution of one of the main characters. In the story of Canterbury tales the frame narrative is used to pass the time of a long journey ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... King Shahrayar is persuaded by the frame narrative, or the stories with One Thousand and One Nights, to revaluate his morals and unjust killing of dozens of innocent women. Just as in One Thousand and One Nights the Canterbury tales also uses a frame narrative to add to the central ideas and message of the story. The Canterbury tales examines a group of people who are making a pilgrimage to Canterbury. The journey is quite a long one and it is suggested by the host that they each tell stories to pass the time of their long journey. So each member of the group begins to tell a separate story which is indicative of the frame narrative. Although, each stories differ from one another they all add in some way to the overall story of Canterbury Tales. Some stories such as the Night s Tale are about great valor and chivalry, while other are less serious and more satirical. Here this quote is expressing what the travelers will do along their journey to pass the time as said by the host: Each one of you, to make our journey short, Shall tell two stories, as we ride, I mean, Toward Canterbury; and coming home again Shall tell two other tales he may have heard Of happenings that some time have occurred (2066). Also, since they will be all together for such a long journey it is nice that they get to know one another more personally. This also adds to the overall idea of the story.
