Do love walk?
Text: Mic 6:8
Intro: Mic 6:3-4
Mic 6:3
O my people, what have I done unto thee? and
wherein have I wearied thee? testify against me.
This is not an invitation to disrespect. This is a
legal proceeding.
Mic 6:4
For I brought thee up out of the land of Egypt,
and redeemed thee out of the house of servants;
and I sent before thee Moses, Aaron, and
Miriam.
God made himself known to Israel in ways the
patriarchs had never seen.
The cloud by day and fire by night gave
evidence of God’s power and determination to
guide his people to the promised land.
In our passage these miracles in the celestials
are not part of God’s petition.
The number 3 is unmistakable in this eternal
court of appeal.
God did 3 things for his people: vs4
1) I brought thee up out of… Egypt
2) redeemed thee
3) I sent [a leadership team] before thee
The Infinite Triune God gave Israel 3 finite
leaders, Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.
Mic 6:8
8) He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good;
Moses, Aaron, and Miriam
and what doth the LORD require of thee,
-God here simplifies the entire Pentateuch
by 3 Requirements-
but
1. to do justly, and
2.to love mercy, and
3. to walk humbly with thy God?
Man is a 3 part being, thus the leadership
examples given in our text will reflect the same.
“Do” – Body, Miriam, Ex 15:20-21
“Love” – Soul, Aaron, Num 12:11-12
“Walk” – Spirit, Moses, Num 12:3-4
I. “Do” – Body, Miriam- Ex 15:20-21
…what doth the LORD require of thee, but
to do justly…
God’s justice is not social justice, it is eternal
holy justice.
Exod 15:20-21
And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron,
took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women
went out after her with timbrels and with
dances.
21 And Miriam answered them, Sing ye to the
LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously; the
horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.
Gen18:19
For I know him, that he will command his
children and his household after him, and
they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do
justice and judgment; that the LORD may
bring upon Abraham that which he hath
spoken of him.
Prov 21:3
To do justice and judgment is more
acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.
Hos 6:6
For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and
the knowledge of God more than burnt
offerings.
Luke 11:42
But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe
mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and
pass over judgment and the love of God:
these ought ye to have done, and not to
leave the other undone.
Titus 2:11-12
11 For the grace of God that bringeth
salvation hath appeared to all men,
12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness
and worldly lusts, we should live soberly,
righteously, and godly, in this present
world;
II. “Love” – Soul, Aaron- Num 12:11-12
…what doth the LORD require of thee, but
to do justly, and to love mercy,
Num 12:11-12
And Aaron said unto Moses, Alas, my lord, I
beseech thee, lay not the sin upon us, wherein
we have done foolishly, and wherein we have
sinned.
12 Let her not be as one dead, of whom the
flesh is half consumed when he cometh out of
his mother's womb.
Isa 57:1
The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth
it to heart: and merciful men are taken
away, none considering that the righteous is
taken away from the evil to come.
Matt5:7
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall
obtain mercy.
Col 3:12
Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy
and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness,
humbleness of mind, meekness,
longsuffering;
III. “Walk” – Spirit, Moses- Num 12:3-4
…what doth the LORD require of thee, but
to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk
humbly with thy God?
Num 12:3-4
3 (Now the man Moses was very meek, above
all the men which were upon the face of the
earth.)
4 And the LORD spake suddenly unto Moses,
and unto Aaron, and unto Miriam, Come out ye
three unto the tabernacle of the congregation.
And they three came out.
Isa 57:15
For thus saith the high and lofty One that
inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I
dwell in the high and holy place, with him
also that is of a contrite and humble spirit,
to revive the spirit of the humble, and to
revive the heart of the contrite ones.
Isa 66:2
For all those things hath mine hand made,
and all those things have been, saith the
LORD: but to this man will I look, even to
him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and
trembleth at my word.
Matt11:29
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me;
for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye
shall find rest unto your souls.
2Thess2:5-7
Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with
you, I told you these things?
6 And now ye know what withholdeth that
he might be revealed in his time.
7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already
work: only he who now letteth will let, until
he be taken out of the way.
1Pet 5:5-6
Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves
unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one
to another, and be clothed with humility: for
God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace
to the humble.
6 Humble yourselves therefore under the
mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you
in due time:
