What has been God's desire from the moment He created us? Did you know that desire has not changed? The coming of Christ to this earth has been a matter of much study yet many fail to grasp the reason for Christ's coming. Christ did not come that we could merely be forgiven; Christ came so we could be restored. God created us for His glory and through the plan of redemption He intends to carry out the original plan.

Dr. John Oakes gave a sermon on Deuteronomy 8 in San Diego 9/15/2013. The focus of the lesson is on Moses’ instructions to the “second generation” of those who wandered in the wilderness as an analogy for the life of a disciple.
What is the eternal destiny of the unborn, the very young, and even the mentally handicapped, and the question of whether the Bible speaks about an age of accountability. Are all human beings centers by nature? Is God truly fair, loving, and just?
Have you ever traced your family history or ever wondered why the scriptures record genealogy? In this lesson we discuss the value of it and how the Jewish person of old would view it. Both slides and audio can be viewed together at www.cmcoc.org

Let’s study from the Bible, how God’s role is in the world today. We can know that if there is no God’s word, we cannot be born or live in this world. God’s word is the criterion of our life, and how we should use God’s word Lead into our lives, from individuals to groups, and finally to the world, let us lift up the word of God and illuminate this dark world

26 Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. 27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

Malachi 3:6-12New International VersionBreaking Covenant by Withholding Tithes
6 “I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed. 7 Ever since the time of your ancestors you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you,” says the Lord Almighty.
“But you ask, ‘How are we to return?’
8 “Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me.
“But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’
“In tithes and offerings. 9 You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me. 10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. 11 I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,” says the Lord Almighty. 12 “Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land,” says the Lord Almighty.
Matthew 6New International VersionGiving to the Needy
6 “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
2 “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.Prayer

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

God bless you as you examine His Word,

These Microsoft PowerPoint presentations are provided "for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ"
(Ephesians 4:12-15). To help Christians to "to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ." So that "we are no longer...tossed here and
there...by every wind of doctrine." They may be downloaded and modified free of charge.
Matthew 10:8 …Freely you received, freely give.
5. Deuteronomy 8:1, “today”
• NAS Deuteronomy 8:1 "All the commandments that I am commanding
you today you shall be careful to do… (Deuteronomy 8:1, 11, 19, 9:1,
3)
• Most commentaries say that Deuteronomy consists of three or more
sermons that Moses gave. Only a few say that it was three points of
one sermon delivered at one time.
• Deuteronomy uses the word “today” more than any other book of the
Bible. Four times more than any other book of the Bible (58 NAU).
More than 1/4 of all the uses of the word are in Deuteronomy. It sure
seems to me that Moses would have us understand that he delivered
the entire sermon in one day. The day they would “cross over.”
• Deuteronomy uses the phrase “this day” another 15 times.
• NAU Deuteronomy 2:18 'Today you shall cross over Ar, the border of
Moab. Samsung most first of the month and got paid.
5
6. Deuteronomy 8:2, The Purpose Of
The 40 Years Wandering
• NAU Deuteronomy 8:2 …the LORD your God
has led you in the wilderness these forty years,
that He might humble you, testing you, to
know what was in your heart, whether you
would keep His commandments or not.
6
7. Deuteronomy 8:3, Every Word Of
God Is Food For Us
• NAU Deuteronomy 8:3…that He might make
you understand that man does not live by
bread alone, but man lives by everything that
proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD.
• NAU Matthew 4:4 But He answered and said,
"It is written, 'MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD
ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS
OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.’" [Luke 4:4]
7
8. Deuteronomy 8:3, manna= God’s
Word
• John MacArthur Study Bible, on page 260,
Deuteronomy 8:3, says God sustained the people in
the wilderness with the food previously unknown to
them. See Exodus 16:15 for the beginning of the giving
of the manna and Joshua 5:12 for it cessation. Man
does not live by bread alone. Israel's food in the
wilderness was decreed by the word of God. They had
manna because it came by God's command; therefore,
ultimately it was not bread that kept them alive, but
God's word (cf. Matthew 4:4; Luke 4:4)."
8
9. Deuteronomy 8:5,
Loving Fathers Discipline
• NAU Deuteronomy 8:5 "Thus you are to know in your
heart that the LORD your God was disciplining you
just as a man disciplines his son.
• NAU Proverbs 3:12 For whom the LORD loves He
reproves, Even as a father corrects the son in whom
he delights.
• NAU Revelation 3:19 'Those whom I love, I reprove
and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent.
• NAU Hebrews 12:6 FOR THOSE WHOM THE LORD
LOVES HE DISCIPLINES, AND HE SCOURGES EVERY
SON WHOM HE RECEIVES.” [2 Samuel 7:14, Job 5:17, Psalm 94:12]
9
10. Deuteronomy 8:9,
Will Not Lack Anything
• NAU Deuteronomy 8:9 a land where you will eat food without
scarcity, in which you will not lack anything; a land whose
stones are iron, and out of whose hills you can dig copper.
• How would you like to have God give you that promise?
• NAU John 14:14 "If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do
it. [Matthew 18:19, John 16:23 (the Father will do it)]
• When Jesus says He will do what the Father does, that’s a deity
claim
• John MacArthur Study Bible, on 8:9, iron…copper. The
mountains of southern Lebanon in the region east of the sea of
Galilee and south of the Dead Sea contain iron. Both copper and
iron were found in the Rift Valley S of the Dead Sea."
10
12. Deuteronomy 8:11,
Do Not Forget The LORD
• NAU Deuteronomy 8:11 "Beware that you do not
forget the LORD your God by not keeping His
commandments and His ordinances and His
statutes which I am commanding you today;
• Wealth and prosperity are a great temptation to
forget about God and not depend on His daily
provision. The consequence of forgetting God is
described in verse 19, as going after idols.
• Human beings are religious by nature, if we don't
worship God we gravitate to idolatry.
12
13. Deuteronomy 8:11-14
• NAU Deuteronomy 8:11… do not forget the
LORD your God by not keeping His
commandments…12…eaten and are
satisfied…good houses and lived in them,
13…silver and gold multiply, and all that you
have multiplies, 14…your heart becomes
proud…
• Many in America celebrate Gay Pride Day, as a
fulfillment of this prophecy.
13
14. Deuteronomy 8:16,
Why The Wanderings?
• NAU Deuteronomy 8:16 "In the wilderness He
fed you manna which your fathers did not
know, that He might humble you and that He
might test you, to do good for you in the end.
• From our human perspective we see the 40
years of wilderness wanderings as God's
punishment, but that's not how God sees it
completely.
14

• Jerusalem Not the Capital of the Jews?
• Jerusalem, according to scientific research, has existed for about 4,000 years. During the first 1,000 years it had no
connection to the Jewish people. Even in the Bible, the Book of Genesis tells about Melchizedek, the king of Salem, who
came out to bless Abraham, who had no connection to Jerusalem. During the time of the patriarchs, Jerusalem did not
figure in their activity at all. Even when the Israelites were in Egypt, Jerusalem was never mentioned, and when they
wandered in the desert they spoke about the Land of Canaan—but not about Jerusalem.
• The conquest of “the land” by Joshua, son of Nun, did not include taking over Jerusalem. It was actually the king of
Jerusalem who organized the coalition of five monarchs against Joshua, and at the time the city was apparently the
capital of another nation, not the Israelites.
• The conquest of Jerusalem by the tribe of Judah, following the death of Joshua, led to the burning of the city rather
than to settlement of the tribe there. Later on it was inhabited by the Jebusites, and only 1,000 years after its
establishment did King David capture the city and turn it into his capital.

• The article Gideon Biger wrote was in opposition to Prime Minister Netanyahu’s declaration, “Jerusalem was and is the
capital city of the Jewish people only.” What does the Bible say? “And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall
be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the
Gentiles be fulfilled” (Luke 21:24).
• Today, Jerusalem is still “trodden down of the Gentiles.” Only after the times of the Gentiles is fulfilled will Jerusalem
be the capital of all Jewish people. But not “Jewish people only.” Leviticus 19:34 reads, “But the stranger that dwelleth
with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land
of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.”
