Essay On Night
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Night" can be both challenging and thought-provoking. The
complexity arises from the depth and breadth of interpretations associated with the concept of
night. Whether approached from a literary, philosophical, or personal perspective, conveying a
comprehensive understanding requires a delicate balance of creativity, analysis, and introspection.
The challenge lies in navigating the vast expanse of themes associated with night. On one hand,
night is often symbolic of darkness, mystery, and the unknown. It can be a canvas for exploring
the complexities of the human psyche or delving into the existential questions that arise when
surrounded by the quietude of the nocturnal world. On the other hand, night can also be a
metaphor for solace, tranquility, and introspection, offering a canvas for self-discovery and
reflection.
The essay might require a nuanced exploration of literary works, incorporating references from
classic literature to contemporary pieces. Analyzing how different authors use the night as a
literary device to convey their messages can add depth to the discussion. Additionally, weaving
in philosophical perspectives on the duality of night—its potential for both fear and
serenity—can further enrich the essay.
Moreover, personal experiences and reflections can be intertwined with broader analyses to
provide a unique perspective. This involves translating one's own encounters with the night into
a broader narrative that resonates with readers, fostering a connection through shared emotions
and contemplations.
In the end, while the challenge is formidable, it is also an opportunity for personal and
intellectual growth. Writing an essay on "Night" requires a careful dance between creative
expression and analytical depth, demanding a writer's ability to navigate the vast landscape of
ideas associated with this universal and multi-faceted concept.

The Benefits Of A College Education
Imagine bouncing from interview to interview with no success, constantly being told
that you were lacking because you had not received a college education. Would you
regret not going to college? As students prepare to graduate high school and
approach the time for college, some may consider skipping collegebecause they are
in such a hurry to chase their dreams, or earn money as soon as possible. However,
they are not realizing the great experiences that they would be missing out on. My
knowledge about college is obtained from two of my siblings who are still
attending a university and my remaining family members who have already
graduated college. Lora Georgieva, a certified college planner, wrote that, more
than 2.3 million people per year graduate college. Despite college feeling like a
waste of time and money, a college education should be valued because it raises
more benefits from jobs, enforces a healthier lifestyle, and supplies students with
golden opportunities. To begin, taking college courses and obtaining a degree will be
a huge factor in earning a favorable job. For instance, with a higher education,
students are more qualified for a job, so it reduces the stress and likelihood of
being unemployed. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, In Jan. 2017, the
unemployment rate for college graduates aged 25 and over with a bachelor s degree
was 2.5%, compared to 3.8% for those with some college or associate s degrees, 5.3%
for high schoolgraduates, and
Investigative Techniques Of A Bomb Investigation
Investigative Techniques
In life every individual develops his or her way in which they do things. For
example, you may put your shoes on and then your coat to go outside while others
may do that action in reverse. The key though is that both people put their shoes and
coat on before going outside. Just as in that example there are certain steps to a bomb
investigation, in which some investigators may do in a different order but in the end
all of the steps will be complete. There are certain questions an investigator must ask
while proceeding through those steps as well. The biggest thing that one needs to
know about investigating an explosion is that it is a rare occurrence and in the case
of recent events ends up affecting not only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For example, TNT is roughly inexpensive and has roughly 15 different blends and can
be detected through nitro aromatics (Toal, Sanchez, Dugan, Trogler, 2007). As stated
above there are several different ways in which that compound can be detected is
utilizing Photoluminescent Metallole containing Polymers.
However, before one can look for any trace or components of an explosive we must
first understand what questions need to be answered. There are five questions that
through an investigation must be answered. If those questions are answered you will
most likely arrive at a perpetrator. These five questions are as follows:
1.Was the explosion accidental or intentional?
2.If it was intentional, what was the target?
3.What was used to make the explosive device?
4.What level of skill was needed to make the device?
5.Where were the materials to make the device obtained from?
If an investigator answers those five questions they more than likely will be able to
answer the more important question of who detonated the device. The question then
becomes how one goes about answering those questions. In a book written by
Charles and Gregory O Hara (2003) there was a comprehensive guide to these type of
investigations that encompass six useful factors:
1.Target
2.Opportunity

Butler County Community College s Parking Case
Butler County Community College s parking situation is appalling. Every day I
have had class so far this semester I have been either late or right on time depending
on how fast I power walk through campus. The reason I am late is not that I am
sleeping in too late or slowly making my way across town to get to the school. It is
that I show up on timeand spend at least fifteen minutes slowly driving through the
parking lot looking for a relatively close parking spot. My own solution to this
problem has been that now instead of looking for a spot close to the building my
class is in, I just go straight to the very back parking lot and walk through the campus
to the building my class is in. What I needs to happen is Butler County Community

Butler has a small campus which is nice because there is not a long walk to get to
anywhere. The downfall of this is that everyone is trying to park their cars in the
same general area, which still would be great if there were enough parking spaces
to suffice, but there is not. What needs to happen is Butler has to make more
parking spaces. A great place for these new spaces could be to just lengthen the
already made lots to down and around the welcome center. Another option could be
that the college tear what is already built now and expand the campus. Making the
campus much broader would space out the students parking tendencies and break
up the clusters of jam packed areas in the parking lots. Without a doubt this would
be extremely costly and would probably force Butler to raise the price of tuition to
get this money. Raised tuition could possibly turn students off from going to Butler,
but that is a price I am willing to pay for better parking

principal poets of Imagist movement. He went to college and received his MD
from the University of Pennsylvania. To begin, in the poem, someone stopped by
the side of a road which in the same direction to a hospital, and they are looking at
the landscape. This person starts describing the scene; he states that he witnessed
dead plants that cover everything in the final stages of winter. You should know it
is understood that Williams acquired his living as a doctor. We are not sure if this
poem is primarily about an experience he had, but more than likely he would have
been accustom to hospitals. Second, the poem is based on a very remote and dull
setting; he explains how he was in a location where there was a handful waste of

extremely understandable. The way he described his surroundings were as if he

Grumpy Duramy Short Story
Long, long ago, in the mystical kingdom of Muampa, there lived a rather crotchety
egg who wasn t typically sunny side up. Back then, this ill tempered egg went by
the name of Grumpy Dumpty. For twelve days and twelve nights, the joyous people
of Muampa were miserable. The villagers had asked Grumpy dumpty to stop, but all
he did was egg nore them.
Oh Grumpy, don t be such a dull egg and turn that frown upside down, little Hope
pleaded.
Quit your begging little girl. Nothing you say or do will ever change the way I am.
This disturbing kingdom is too jubilant. You ll see, one day I will have my chance to
get off this wall and rue the day! Grumpy Dumpty heartlessly said to the innocent
child.
Hope sadly stomped off to the king s court to report this horrifying incident.
Oh please, oh please!! There has to be something you can do. That unegg ceptional
egg is trying to turn this kingdom into an incredibly gloomy place. We can t let this
happen. We just can t!! Hope said with a deep sob.
The king s men stared at each other in confusion.
Well, I have never heard of this so called Grumpy Dumpty character. I have heard of
Humpty Dumpty, but we are not living in a fairytale world. It would make no sense
for him to egg ist, said old Joe.

The Social Responsibility of Positive Communication
Within...
The purpose of this report is to explore the social responsibility Graphic Designers
have regarding communication with the mass media. Berman remarks how
designers have a disproportionately large influence in these three areas: 1.How
messages intended to influence the behavior of large audiences are selected,
crafted, and delivered 2.How people are portrayed and represented visually 3.How
raw materials for designed objects are consumed (99). It will consider the influence
and power designer possess, the negative outcomes of bad communication, and how
designers can do good. This research is significant because the world today needs to
be accountable for the issues it has caused, one designer at a time, one person at a

Although it s true that logos incorporate an influence and a branded personality,
there is a trouble in finding a multicultural common ground. According to Conroy,
people still value [their] cultural roots so it would be unwise to suppose that all
interpretations are going to be correct. Claiming that graphic designers can create a
global language through graphic imagery and typography is a bold statement. Since
it takes a sender and a receiver to communicate, we must acknowledge that although
the designer potentially has [influential] power, it depends on the viewer/audience
to give up some kind of control (Mazutinec). Therefore, Berman refers to Adbusters
magazine founder Kalle Lasn who implies we are only in part responsible by
claiming, that most North Americans can only identify 10 plants, but can recognize
1,000 corporate brands (53). It is also important to recognize that designers are a
small part of a large industry that only deserves either part of the credit, or part of the
blame. Either way, is it sad that throughout the world, the second most understood
word is Coke (Berman 31) and not love or hope? Responsibility to the environment
Issues regarding the planets global warming, the acceleration of cultural changes, and
overconsumption should be part of our society s main focus. Instead of promoting Go

Harriet Beecher Stowe Biography

world has ever witnessed, was born in Litchfield, Connecticut, United States, on
June 14, 1896. Grievously, this American author died in Hartford on July 1, 2018.
All didn t become lost though; with his religious family, Stowe left his mark. All
her life, from childhood to the day of her death, consisted of a single goal; to thwart
slavery. What triggered her dedication to this heinous act? There was a myriad of
flame lighters. Her family had a fundamental role; they built and fueled the fire.

slavery is one of the biggest mistakes of humanity; every individual should obtain

across the Ohio River in Kentucky. Henceforth, her determination to right the wrongs
of mankind became more and more firm and she began the long journey to reach her
goal. Stowe s personality and identity unfolded while she was studying at Hartford

The Evil Of Society In Lord Of The Flies By William
Golding
Society is built upon fascinating cultures along with many religious beliefs.
Although it s not perfect, we conceive it as being civilized. Nevertheless, our
communities are all dependent on people. This proposes that the defects we can see
in our society are caused by defects that are present in human nature. In the novel
Lord of the Flies, William Goldingdemonstrates how civilization is devastated when
humans wonder to the dark sides of their instinct. In his works, several characters,
such as Simon and Piggy, represent the more formal side of Man. However,
protagonists, like Ralph, transition from their diplomatic selves to savagery. This
supports the claim Golding and I share that at his core, all Man is still barbaric even
with his attempts at tamed behavior.
In the story, a plane is struck down, crashing it on an isolated island. A number of
boys, now distanced from civilization, survived. Throughout their times on the isle,
many among the group tried to establish order and structure. These include Ralph,
Piggy, and Simon, who resemble the accommodating side of society. During their
time, Ralph was elected to be the leader, which established a form of jurisdiction and
control. He comments, if it rains like when we dropped in we ll need shelters...
(Golding 52) Ralph attempts to accumulate the boys in order to build a sanctuary.
While Ralph illustrates leadership qualities, Simon stands on the more natural side of
the spectrum. As he s walking through the clearing, he

Catcher In The Rye Literary Conflict
English essay (literary conflicts) Essay question: What is the main literary
conflict found in The Catcher in the Rye ? Introduction: J.D Salinger s bestselling
novel The Catcher in the Rye depicts a troubled teenage boy who conflicts with the
society of the 1950s. Holden Caufield s cynical way of narrating the story with his
constant criticism about other people and the ugliness of the world, introduces the
readers to a judgemental and critical protagonist. The Catcher in the Rye was based
on Salinger s life experience after WWII. While Holden disliked the society in the
story, Salinger personally disliked the society of how the life after the war was like.

Holden defies society by not applying himself at school and getting kicked out of
different schools numerous times. Apart from getting expelled from Pencey,
while he is there Holden does not establish any close relationships with his
classmates, or any of the other boys at Pencey. He always finds something bad to
say about the people he has connections with, even his roommate Stradlater: He
was at least a pretty friendly guy, Stradlater. It was partly a phony kind of friendly.
(ch.3 pg.25) Holden does not have any close friendships with any of his peers,
even though he occasionally has fun with Stradlater and is nice to Ackley because
he feels obliged to, in the end he always has bad things to say about the phony
people there. Holden struggles to find a place in society, and struggles to make
friends with the critical attitude he has against society in general, and the current
world. Holden struggles to fit into society through his relationships with people,
similar to his relationships at Pencey, Holden does not get along easily with people
because of his opinions conflicting with society s. Holden s unreasonable
suggestion to Sally, of going to live in the woods together, shows his struggle with
society s plan for people: ...get a job somewhere and we could live somewhere with a

Holden has an illogical vision of his future life with Sally. He
Analysis Of Rebecca Solnit s The Thoreau Problem
The concept of social justice, and the environment have always been under great
threat. However is it possible to mend the two, combine them together, in order to
create an equal atmosphere and a sustainable society? The majority of the population
have always wanted to prevent the minority in gaining their rights in fear of losing
their power, and the natureconquerors have disregarded the wildernessneeds in fear
of losing their profit. Environmental activists and advocates have sought to bridge
the gap between the complicated and divisive relationship between the natural world
and the advancing technological world. Rebecca Solnit, Wendell Berry, and John
Muir all recognize the explicit relationship between social justice and the respect for
the natural world. In Rebecca Solnit s essay entitled The Thoreau Problem, the
American writer analyzes the problematic response and formation of Thoreau s
reputation. She claims that the scholars and critics refuse to acknowledge the
multidimensional aspect of Thoreau s actions, not being able to see that he could be
both a revolutionary figure who is able to inspire activists, as well as a man who was
passionate about natural histories. In isolating these two parts of Thoreau, a
reflection of the American thought is shown that there s no belief in multifaceted
ideas in regards to the environmentand social justice. However, Solnit has stated that
this notion is false and detrimental to society as well as nature, stating
The Function Of The Acid Base Equilibrium
PBL Write up: Acid Base
This document aims to explain the function of the acid base equilibrium in place
in the human body and to identify potential problems that may occur. Theses
processes are tightly linked with the control of fluid levels in the body, this
relationship and the function of the water homeostasis system will also be
explored. The aim of this write up is to display a full understanding of the learning
objectives developed in the PBL session. However by adhering to the original
learning objectives it would be difficult to develop a clear structure for this write up
as they do not seem clearly defined. They cover areas multiple times and are
structurally unsound. Therefore in this write up the following structure will be used:
1.Acid Base Balance
What is the body s acid base equilibrium?
The Body s buffer systems and how they function?
What can go wrong and how does it affect the body?
2.Dehydration
What can cause dehydration and what are symptoms?
How does this link to the acid base problem?
How does it affect electrolyte balance?
How is fluid balance regulated?

Midbrain Research Paper
The arrangement of the human brain comes from the physical arrangement set as an
embryo. The forebrain is the part of the brain farthest forward, followed by the
midbrain, then the hindbrain toward the back of the neck.
The hindbrain, located directly above the spinal cord, contains the medulla, pons, and
cerebellum. The medulla controls breathing, heart rate, swallowing, digestion, and
maintaining an up right posture. As well, the medulla is where nerves from the left
brain transfer to the right and nerves from the right brain transfer to the left. Below
the medulla are the pons. The pons control sleep and arousal. Behind both the
medulla and the pons is the cerebellum. The cerebellum is involved in regulation and
coordination of body movements and learning.
Above the hindbrain is a small, neural area called the midbrain. The midbrain, in its
retical formation, is responsible for regulating and maintaining consciouness.
Finally, the forebrain, located at the front of the brain, allows for complex emotional
reactions, cognitive processes, and movement patterns. Withing the forebrain is the
thalamus, hypothalamus, and the limbic system. The thalamus is the part of the brain

Banana Bowl Vs Melting Pot
Soup or Salad?
Does America have a personality? There are many factors that can affect someone s
personality, but America s personality is categorized by the conflicting attitudes of
nationalism and individualism. These attitudes affected America s view towards
issues of immigration. Depending on which American personality is being used
determines whether or not America is been recognized as a Salad Bowl or a Melting
Pot as a country. When America is being described as Nationalistic, then the
country is a Melting Pot due to the focus on the assimilation of immigrants.
Conversely, when America is being described as Individualistic, the nation is a
Salad Bowl because of the focus of cultural retention. The debate of whether or not
America s personality is best represented by a Melting Pot or a Salad Bowl began
after the turn of the century; this debate is clearly depicted in the beliefs and
works of Diego Rivera and George Bellows. Firstly, Diego Rivera s Detroit
Industry is a quintessential and accurate representation of America s Melting Pot
personality. Painted in 1933, this magnificent masterpiece takes up twenty seven
panels and can be found at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Additionally, this Mexican
artist s work can be seen as frescoes, which he describes as, paintings done rapidly in
watercolour on wet plaster on a wall or ceiling, so that the colours penetrate the
plaster and become fixed as it dries (Rivera Court 1). His artwork depicts laborers

Spanish and English Exploration Essay
*********** HS 201 005 Paper #1 Sept. 8, 2010 Spanish and English had similar
motivations for exploration of the New World, such as gaining land, goods from
the natives, and gold. However, their motivations also differ greatly. The Spanish
conquistadors also gained slaves from the native people, as well as spreading the
word of Christianity. The English settlers came to the New World to get away from
the religious oppression in England and to practice religion freely, and to grow
tobacco to send back to England. The Spanish gained much more land quickly
because, upon landing in places like the Caribbean and Brazil, because of their
conquering and enslaving of the natives. The English came to the New World much

Eventually one of Cortes men led a massacre of the Mexican nobles, and murdered
Montezuma. These conquests led to other conquests with the motivation of more
gold and more land. Another conqueror, Francisco Pizarro, also led his men to
capture an emperor, Atahualpa of the Incans, and held him for a ransom of silver
and gold. With this gold and silver, as well as land, they executed Atahualpa. These
violent raids proved beneficial to the Spanish, helping them spread their conquered
land further south in the Americas. This quest made the Spanish not only rich in
silver and gold, but in land and with slaves, by use of violent force. The English
had similar motivations to that of the Spanish, and were even inspired by the
success of the Spanish conquistadors to come to the New World and settle on new
land. However, the motivations differed greatly as well. The English hoped to
provide jobs for people in the New World that could not find them in England, also
in hopes of helping England s economy. The colonists set up a colony at Jamestown
to defend themselves against the Indians, and eventually Powhatan s people came
forward to open the trade of corn with the colonists. This corn eventually kept the
colonist alive until another ship of more people and supplies came in. This
however, did not prepare the colonists for the winter of 1609 1610, or the starving

The Digital Era And Emergence Of Mobile Apps
Digital magazines have increasingly captured the attention of the media industry due
to their ability to attract readers through interactive content, without involving high
costs in production and distribution as traditional magazines. In todays world, a
consumer wants everything to be readily available and user friendly. In order to keep
up with technology, most magazine publishers have adapted the digitalization of
magazines into creating applications for arguably, devices that no reader can live
without, the mobile phone or tablet. Changes in tradition from paperback to digital
affect important factors such as customer loyalty, efficiency of readers, and changes
in revenues for magazines. Although there have been a large number of... Show more

During the past decade, a typical publishing model would ve included a print
edition along with a website supported by social media, however due to the ever
growing mobile phones and tablet business, publishers needed to adapt to the
change in demand by adding more apps and digital editions with its print versions.
Hogarth (2014) suggests that due to the rise of digital magazines, it is likely that by
2016, a high percentage of publications will be in digital or online formats only.
Business users are particularly intrigued with the prospect of having mobile serve as
another revenue generating channel. A survey undertaken by Opinion Matters,
sponsored by OutSystems, shows that more than 200 UK and US respondents were
asked about the primary goal of their new mobile app initiatives, and 64% said their
main aim was to generate revenue. (digitalmarketingmagazine.co.uk)

Kidney Injury And Hormonal Failure
The kidneys play host to a variety of different important functions in our bodies. The
kidney s primary function is the removal of toxins, which is excreted in the form of
urine. The second extremely important role of the kidneys is maintaining the body s
acid base balance. This is balance is maintained by the excretion of fixed acids and
the reabsorption of bicarbonate. The hormonal functions of the kidneys include the
regulation of bloodpressure and the manufacturing of red blood cells.
As critical care nurses, why should we be concerned about acute kidney injury (AKI)?
How about a few statistics to help you answer this question. Approximately 5 % of
all hospitalized patients will develop AKI during their hospital stay (Yaklin, 2011).

There are a variety of options for anticoagulation in CRRT patients. Heparin is the
least expensive and drug with the shortest half life, which is why it is the preferred
method of anticoagulation. Heparin does require frequent PTT monitoring and dose
adjustments. The disadvantages to heparin use are increased bleeding risk and
thrombocytopenia. For those patients who develop heparin induced
thrombocytopenia (HIT), the use of a direct thrombin inhibitor is recommended.
Argatroban and Lepirudin are the two direct thrombin inhibitors of choice. Deciding
between the two is based on patient history, current medical condition and method of
CRRT used. Argatroban is eliminated by the liver, whereas Lepirudin is eliminated
by the kidneys and may not be used in patients with AKI. For those patients with an
allergy to Heparin, the use of citrate is an option. Citrate binds to calcium in the
patients blood within the CRRT circuit and will help prolong circuit life. Citrate
requires monitoring of labs, specifically ionized calcium, sodium and acid base
status. Citrate is contraindicated in patients with hepatic failure or with lactic
acidosis. When the use of anticoagulates are contraindicated, sodium chloride is used.
Small boluses, approximately 100 200 milliliters, are used to flush the CRRT circuit.
These fluid boluses are used to reduce the stagnation of blood in the
The Effect Of Glass On Everyday Life
3.Discussion
3.1.Effect of Glass on Everyday Life
Mirrors and their applications were pivotal in the development of the sciences of
optics, chemistry and astronomy (Rasmussen, 2012). It has even been said that the
Renaissance and the Scientific Revolution might not have happened if not for the
invention of mirrors (MacFarlane, 2002). Eyeglasses have been said to be one of the
greatest inventions ever because without them, people born with poor vision not only
find performing daily tasks much more difficult, but would also be severely
constrained in terms of the amount of education they can receive and thus in their life
opportunities.
This is further underlined when one takes into account the fact that approximately 6
out of 10 people in the world today either wear glasses, contact lenses, or have
previously undergone corrective eye surgery. Even for those born with good vision,
they typically lose their ability to focus by their mid 40s, which means that
eyeglasses have considerably lengthened the intellectual lifespan of a person. The
impact of eyeglasses on society thus cannot be understated.

Listening Skills Self Assessment
Overall after completing the Listening Skills Self Assessment, I think that I am a
pretty active listener. One of the strategies that I found out after taking the self
assessment, was that I stay open minded when a speaker is speaking despite what
he or she may say that to offend me or about a matter I do not agree upon. Also, I
do not isolate the content of the message that is being presented, but I listen to
every aspect and detail of what is being said. Two of my weaknesses, were that
when the speaker is speaking in a way that is very complex I tend to loose focus.
Along with that, when I lose focus and I will not to respond until I can make an
assumption of what the information or context they are trying to present is about. In

In the dog chase scene they used lots of film technique such as medium shot low

shots are used for dialogue sequences, and they allow the viewer to pick up on the
character s movements and gestures. Body language is important to conveying
emotion, and the medium shot remains close enough to capture that emotion. The
dog chase scene is about when the four boys stop at the junkyard to get some water

Alexander The Great And Aristotle s Relationship
Alexander III of Macedon, also known as Alexander the Great, is known for being
one of the most successful military commanders in history. In the novel, The Golden
Mean, by Annabel Lyon, we are given an inside look on the relationship between
student and teacher shown through the famous philosopher Aristotle and young
Alexander the Great. Aristotle tells this story in first person, and the reader is able
to see the discussions between both Aristotle and Alexander. We are also able to see
the flashbacks and memories of Aristotle, as well as get an inside look on the early
life of who we know today as Alexander the Great. In the beginning of the story,
Aristotle is traveling to Athens, alongside his nephew Callisthenes and his wife

I thought that Lyon did a good job of keeping the reader engaged in the story
through the many dialogues, and in my opinion that made it easier to read. I also
thought that she did a good job of keeping the historical information relevant to the
story, because I think you can get a good understanding of how life was in ancient
Greece by reading this book. I do think that this helped me think differently about
this era in history because before reading this I did not have a really good
understanding of ancient Greece and I wasn t really interested in learning about it
at all, but this book made it very easy to get me to want to learn more about this
era. If someone I knew wanted to learn about ancient Greece I think that I would
recommend this book to them because it is an easy read, although it is a little long.
But, I do think that someone can get a very good understanding about the history
of this time period as well as being entertained by the narrative. I think the way
Lyon wrote the story into a narrative made it more interesting, rather than just
having to read facts. Dialogue and interactions between characters make stories a
lot easier to read and they also keep the audience way more engaged. The only thing
that I did not like about this book was how there were many flashbacks from
Aristotle s past. I do think that it is necessary to include them so that the reader can
get an idea about his early life, but it would sometimes
The Dual Nature Of The French And English Faultline In
Canada
When the French settled into Canada 400 years ago independently of the British, the
first stages of French/Francophone identity was formed. Over time this unique
identity began to emerge and become something different from the rest of Canada.
Language, history, and the geography of their land continues to evolve and separate
the Francophones from Canadaas their land and way of life is special to our nation.
The dual nature of the French/English faultline in Canada manifested early on in
history when New France was threatened by British occupation, ultimately leading to
Confederation; we can continue to see this in modern times through referendums
which deal with French culture and separation. Quebecis also unique geographically,
containing mild to arctic climate zones and 4 geophysical regions; this is very
diverse for a single province in Canada. These regions in Quebec allows for a diverse
economic industry, including: hydroelectric production, agriculture, forest and
mining industries. The economic production through Quebec s varying geography
and their individual French culture and history is what makes Quebec a unique
region in Canada.
Settlers came from France when Samuel Du Champlain travelled the St. Lawrence
Valley to set up the first permanent French settlement in 1608. The settlement of
Quebec was made to establish fur trading posts, explore more land using the St.
Lawrence River, maintain relationships with the Indigenous people, and travel further

Since a young age Harvey Mason never had a problem picking up beats. He
remembers lying in bed at night, locking into the rolling groove of his mother s
washing machine, fluffing his pillow into a ball and playing along to it with his
fingers. Harvey started taking formal drum lessons at age 7, playing in school
groups eventually purchasing his first drum set at 16 years old. He played so
amazingly well that Atlantic City s Wonder Gardens Club proprietor, Sonny McCall,

Importance Of Opportunity Cost Of Higher Education
Education is important and a vital role in the development of an economy. It is

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind Essay
Throughout our class this semester we learned about all different views of free
will and happiness by several different philosophers. In this paper I will be
speaking of the relations between a film and two sections we read. The film is the

both do not know it at the time but Joel and Clementine actually used to date. They

My Reflection On Womens And Gender Studies
Before taking this class, I did not know a lot about women s and gender studies.
Reading the different books and looking at the different pieces of art helped me
the most in this class. There were many pieces in this class that influenced me to
learn more about these women s and gender issues and reflect on my learning. I
spent a lot of time taking notes while reading the stories and relating them to what I
have experienced in my life. For example, the graphic memoir we did as a project
showed how I related to women s and genderissues. It showed my struggle as I
played T ball as the only girl on the team. This experience allowed me to compare it
to the stories we read as part of the class. One of my favorite books we read in class
was Fun Home written by Alison Bechdel. This was one of my favorites because
of her writing style and the way she showed her women s and gender issues. She
uses a lot of detail as she writes which is one thing I like about her writing style.
Another thing I like about her writing style is the way she describes the issues that
she has encountered. For example, she uses the pictures to help the reader better
understand how she has struggled. I find that this helps me better understand the
plot of the story. This story has greatly changed how I feel about women s and
gender issues. Before reading this story, I did not realize how many issues women
suffer from regarding who they are. Bechdel shows her struggle with her father and
being a lesbian.

The Fall of the Moors In 1492, Christopher Columbus discovered the new world.
That year also marked the fall of the Moors (Medieval Muslims). They ruled over
the Moor Kingdom of Granada in the Iberian Peninsula from 711 to 1492, where the
three Abrahamic religions lived in peace. In that year, the battle of Granada caused
their great empire to fall. After this battle, Muslims were forced to convert to
Christianity or be expelled from the land. This oppression went to the extent of
forbidding any Islamic acts, behaviors, and scriptures, with violators being
prosecuted, which resulted in unfair and unjust treatment for the Moors in Spain. The
Moors arrived at the Iberian Peninsula in 711 by crossing the Mediterranean Sea near
North Africa (Florian 20). Within seven years, the Iberian Peninsula (which they
called Al Andalus) was almost completely occupied by these people (De Luca et. al.
5). Moors had control of the majority of Iberian Peninsula, but, in late 718, King
Visigoths Pelayo of Alcama, fought against the Moors and defeated them at the
battle of Covadonga. Later on, they were defeated at another battle: the battle of
Granada. The unity of Spain played heavily in this battle. It was between Aragon s
King Ferdinand and Isabella I, the Queen of Castile. They were married in 1469,
soon after which the united forces of both states rose against the Moors (Florian 183).
Their combined forces participated in the Reconquista, which led to the fall of

before they ever have the ability to become long term memories. This is caused by
the brain being affected by some sort of trauma or accident that affects the
hippocampusof the brain making it very hard from that point on to remember
anything other than the long term memories that were set in your brain before any
trauma. During a break in into his home Leonard was struck by a gun to the side of
his head by two masked criminals which caused his short term memory loss. Also
during the incident, his wife was raped and killed by them. Leonard kills one of the
criminals, but the other gets away with minimal damage. This is the last event that
Leonard can fully remember thus fueling his need for revenge on whoever killed his
wife. This fuel is what leads him
Australia The Land Of Opportunity Essay
Before the 11th of September, 2001, Australia had been a home to the Al Jamil
family. Granted, it was never the same as their home country of Iraq, but it was a
place to live and they were content. Australia, the Land of Opportunity, would bring
her family success and happiness. The day that news services across the globe began
to broadcast the events of 9/11 was the day that this began to change.
***
It happened slowly at first, with strange looks in the street and the word terrorist
constantly on the lips of strangers. But soon it became obvious to the Fatimah, as
whispers turned into harsh words, and harsh words became fists. The day that her
younger brother, Farhad, came home from school with a black eye, and tears rolling
down his face, was the day that the change became physical. Mama and Papa called
the school, asking for answers, but were given none, being told that if no teacher had

Islam is not terrorism. My Islam is a religion of peace. A belief cannot have any
feelings, yet you are all so convinced that mine hates yours! Allah instructs us to
treat all with kindness and neighbourly care. The people who did this, they do not
represent Islam, she stated, looking at her classmates. They are not Islam. You think
that because we live in your country we should be grateful to you, but you don t
know that we are realising it was the biggest, most irreversible mistake we have
made. We, Australian Muslims, are just as Australian as you. We deserve the same
freedoms, and the same respect. There must be 23 million ways to be Australia. Stop
judging mine and focus on yours.
Fatimah sat down, to shocked stares and disagreeing words. Satisfied that she had
gotten her point across, she took in a deep breath. There would always be those who
didn t understand, who would hate and judge. Her family was here for life and
opportunity. But maybe Australia isn t the Land of Opportunity for All. Maybe it s
just the Land of Opportunity for
Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting Essay
Psych: Drug Addiction
The meeting I attended was held in Millersville University at Lehr Hall at 9:30 Am. I
attended the meeting alone and was initially very hesitant and uncomfortable with the
idea. At the beginning not unexpected occurred really happened. It appeared to be a
very informal meeting that everyone seemed to already be acquainted. All the
members directed each other by name and I was welcomed by, what seemed to be,
a regular attendee as well as a new member. I sat down and initiated conversation
with the member next to me. She informed me that she goes to multiple meetings and
this was her first time at the specific location. She asked me of my major and other
information. A member of the group, who seemed to be the... Show more content on

This put the topic more towards forgiveness rather than anything else. The only
topic discussed, as I recall, was forgiveness. Many members gave their accounts of
moments in which they felt sorry and how they handled the situation. I will refrain
from going into further detail about any of the members of the group to keep their
anonymity. The meeting concluded with the serenity prayer. I was not familiar
with this prayer so I just held the hands of those near me and bowed my head out of
respect. Specific attendees of the meetings appeared more active and attentive
than others. Some of them seemed as though they did not want to be there and
looked miserable. About one or two of the members even fell asleep a couple of
times. Maybe some members went because they had to or because they just
wanted to help tell themselves that they are trying. This really interested me
because it is important to take notice that some people go and progress due to
being active and others are just forced. In the case of being forced it is very easy to
go to the meeting and just not be attentive or active. During the meeting I felt very
enlightened. The topic of forgiveness is very broad and is even relevant in my own
life. The viewpoint on the topic was very different and interesting. They talked
more about being forgiving of ourselves because we are the ones that cause
ourselves to react negatively to life s daily hassles and stressors. They also spoke on
the control
Causes Of Target s Growth
Over the years Target has established itself as the second largest discount store in
America. Falling behind Walmart, Target has experienced periods of strong growth
but has recently encountered problems that have caused concern with those within
the organization as well as external analysts. One of the biggest problems Target is
facing currently is generating consistent customer traffic into its stores as many of
their major departments are continuously loosing money and causing customers seek
out other product alternatives. A major contributor to this problem is that it is
spreading itself thin by offering too much without establishing a competitive
advantage and not firmly establishing itself in denser city locations. Just recently

But if it is going to improve on its recent losses, Target needs to start moving into
more developed areas with stores that are suited to providing its customers with
the products they want and need, but not be overwhelming for customers. Some of
the major problems target will face with this alternative will be costs of
development. Land that is closer to larger populations is going to cost more as
well as the increase in permits and the cost of contractors to create the right store
for the given environment. Another issue Target could face would be choosing
which products they should sell in these new stores, because of the limited
developmental space available, the products chosen will have to be limited as well.
But by moving to more populated areas Target will be able to reach more people and
begin competing with the local stores that are taking away its business. Additionally,
closer locations will provide additional convenience for its
Ideal Reading Program For Fifth Grade
Ideal Reading Program for Fifth Grade
Devon Alder
Liberty University
How should a flourishing reading program for fifth grade appear? There s no one
best way to teach reading; instead, [educators must] create a balanced literacy
program to meet every student s needs (Tompkins, 2014, p.327). It is essential that all
literacy programs feature instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency,
vocabulary, and comprehension so that students can become capable readers and
writers.
Phonemic Awareness Phonemic awareness is the ability to hear, identify, and
manipulate individual sounds phonemes in spoken words, which can be a complex
process for some (Armbruster, 2009 p.10). To exemplify, in the word mat an

By learning alliteration, the students could create poems and tongue twisters that
begin with the same initial sound. Identification and the manipulation of phonemes
must be done successfully so that their poems and tongue twister are accurate. I
could model an example of alliteration by saying: Ms. Alder ate Aunt Annie s
apples. In rhyming, the students could hear that certain words have the same
ending sound. I could model this too by saying: Ba baa black sheep, have you any
wool? Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full. A clear understanding of alliteration and
rhyming can also be taught through the use of read aloud texts. If I taught younger
students, I could create activities that required them to substitute and or blend
sounds. For example, I could say the word mat and ask the students to substitute /m
/ for /b/. They would then form the new word bat . As for blends, I could have the
students sound out specific phonemes such as /s/ /a/ /t/ to create words such as sat .
Phonics
Phonics is the set of relationships between phonology (the sounds in speech) and
orthography (the spelling pattern of written language (Tompkins, 2014, p.152). This
is the ability to know that each alphabet letter has a sound that correlates with it.
Although phonics and phonemics awareness differ, phonics puts the intervention at
the level of sounds, not letters, making sound concrete and
On Bruce Springsteen s Song Born In The USA
Born in the U.S.A. The song Born in the U.S.A. was written by Bruce springsteen.
Bruce grew up in New Jersey, and shows it in this song. Bruce is widely known for
his americana, working class poetic lyrics. The song is about the mistreatment of
Vietnamese War veterans, but people believe Born in the U.S.A. is a real patriotic
song, when in reality they just misunderstand the deeper connotation .Bruce himself
did not serve in the Vietnam War. He was called upon to serve, but did not meet
requirements. This song was meant to defend the veterans, his use of diction
,repetition , and comparisons throughout the song to meets that purpose rather than
just patriotism. Bruce Springsteen was born in Long Beach, New Jersey in 1949. He

The song is from the point of view of a soldier just returning home that tries to get
a job at the refinery. The man doing the interviews for the refinery will not hire
him, for fear of backlash from the public, and other workers not cooperating with
him. Veterans were not appreciated because America s public thought they killed
innocent women, and children in the war. So when he went to see the v.a. man ,
v.a. means veteran affairs, he was trying to seek help, but he man could not do
anything for him because the veterans were looked down so poorly, and that what is
not understood by the man in the story (Behind The Song: Bruce Springsteen, Born
In The U.S.A. American Songwriter). That concept of not being liked is understood
by Bruce Springsteen and he is ashamed. That the men that went to defend our
freedom, and put their lives at risk were wrong by the people from the same place,
the U.S.A., which he repeats a lot in the

Essay On Night.pdf

  • 1. Essay On Night Crafting an essay on the topic of "Night" can be both challenging and thought-provoking. The complexity arises from the depth and breadth of interpretations associated with the concept of night. Whether approached from a literary, philosophical, or personal perspective, conveying a comprehensive understanding requires a delicate balance of creativity, analysis, and introspection. The challenge lies in navigating the vast expanse of themes associated with night. On one hand, night is often symbolic of darkness, mystery, and the unknown. It can be a canvas for exploring the complexities of the human psyche or delving into the existential questions that arise when surrounded by the quietude of the nocturnal world. On the other hand, night can also be a metaphor for solace, tranquility, and introspection, offering a canvas for self-discovery and reflection. The essay might require a nuanced exploration of literary works, incorporating references from classic literature to contemporary pieces. Analyzing how different authors use the night as a literary device to convey their messages can add depth to the discussion. Additionally, weaving in philosophical perspectives on the duality of night—its potential for both fear and serenity—can further enrich the essay. Moreover, personal experiences and reflections can be intertwined with broader analyses to provide a unique perspective. This involves translating one's own encounters with the night into a broader narrative that resonates with readers, fostering a connection through shared emotions and contemplations. In the end, while the challenge is formidable, it is also an opportunity for personal and intellectual growth. Writing an essay on "Night" requires a careful dance between creative expression and analytical depth, demanding a writer's ability to navigate the vast landscape of ideas associated with this universal and multi-faceted concept. For those seeking assistance with essays or similar academic tasks, there are platforms like HelpWriting.net where one can find support and resources. These services can provide guidance and even professionally crafted essays tailored to specific topics, alleviating some of the challenges associated with academic writing. • 2. The Benefits Of A College Education Imagine bouncing from interview to interview with no success, constantly being told that you were lacking because you had not received a college education. Would you regret not going to college? As students prepare to graduate high school and approach the time for college, some may consider skipping collegebecause they are in such a hurry to chase their dreams, or earn money as soon as possible. However, they are not realizing the great experiences that they would be missing out on. My knowledge about college is obtained from two of my siblings who are still attending a university and my remaining family members who have already graduated college. Lora Georgieva, a certified college planner, wrote that, more than 2.3 million people per year graduate college. Despite college feeling like a waste of time and money, a college education should be valued because it raises more benefits from jobs, enforces a healthier lifestyle, and supplies students with golden opportunities. To begin, taking college courses and obtaining a degree will be a huge factor in earning a favorable job. For instance, with a higher education, students are more qualified for a job, so it reduces the stress and likelihood of being unemployed. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, In Jan. 2017, the unemployment rate for college graduates aged 25 and over with a bachelor s degree was 2.5%, compared to 3.8% for those with some college or associate s degrees, 5.3% for high schoolgraduates, and
  • 3. Investigative Techniques Of A Bomb Investigation Investigative Techniques In life every individual develops his or her way in which they do things. For example, you may put your shoes on and then your coat to go outside while others may do that action in reverse. The key though is that both people put their shoes and coat on before going outside. Just as in that example there are certain steps to a bomb investigation, in which some investigators may do in a different order but in the end all of the steps will be complete. There are certain questions an investigator must ask while proceeding through those steps as well. The biggest thing that one needs to know about investigating an explosion is that it is a rare occurrence and in the case of recent events ends up affecting not only ... As stated above there are several different ways in which that compound can be detected is utilizing Photoluminescent Metallole containing Polymers. However, before one can look for any trace or components of an explosive we must first understand what questions need to be answered. There are five questions that through an investigation must be answered. If those questions are answered you will most likely arrive at a perpetrator. These five questions are as follows: 1.Was the explosion accidental or intentional? 2.If it was intentional, what was the target? 3.What was used to make the explosive device? 4.What level of skill was needed to make the device? 5.Where were the materials to make the device obtained from? If an investigator answers those five questions they more than likely will be able to answer the more important question of who detonated the device. The question then becomes how one goes about answering those questions. In a book written by Charles and Gregory O Hara (2003) there was a comprehensive guide to these type of investigations that encompass six useful factors: 1.Target 2.Opportunity 3.

Every day I have had class so far this semester I have been either late or right on time depending on how fast I power walk through campus. The reason I am late is not that I am sleeping in too late or slowly making my way across town to get to the school. It is that I show up on timeand spend at least fifteen minutes slowly driving through the parking lot looking for a relatively close parking spot. My own solution to this problem has been that now instead of looking for a spot close to the building my class is in, I just go straight to the very back parking lot and walk through the campus to the building my class is in. What I needs to happen is Butler County Community Collegehas to add more parking, expand the campus, or invent teleportation.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Butler has a small campus which is nice because there is not a long walk to get to anywhere. The downfall of this is that everyone is trying to park their cars in the same general area, which still would be great if there were enough parking spaces to suffice, but there is not. What needs to happen is Butler has to make more parking spaces. A great place for these new spaces could be to just lengthen the already made lots to down and around the welcome center. Another option could be that the college tear what is already built now and expand the campus. Making the campus much broader would space out the students parking tendencies and break up the clusters of jam packed areas in the parking lots. Without a doubt this would be extremely costly and would probably force Butler to raise the price of tuition to get this money. Raised tuition could possibly turn students off from going to Butler, but that is a price I am willing to pay for better parking

For nearly a century, allocation of spectrum throughout the world has been based on a model of static allocation. More recently, it has been realized that this model leads to gross inefficiencies. • 9. The Social Responsibility of Positive Communication Within... The purpose of this report is to explore the social responsibility Graphic Designers have regarding communication with the mass media. Berman remarks how designers have a disproportionately large influence in these three areas: 1.How messages intended to influence the behavior of large audiences are selected, crafted, and delivered 2.How people are portrayed and represented visually 3.How raw materials for designed objects are consumed (99). It will consider the influence and power designer possess, the negative outcomes of bad communication, and how designers can do good. This research is significant because the world today needs to be accountable for the issues it has caused, one designer at a time, one person at a time.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although it s true that logos incorporate an influence and a branded personality, there is a trouble in finding a multicultural common ground. According to Conroy, people still value [their] cultural roots so it would be unwise to suppose that all interpretations are going to be correct. Claiming that graphic designers can create a global language through graphic imagery and typography is a bold statement. Since it takes a sender and a receiver to communicate, we must acknowledge that although the designer potentially has [influential] power, it depends on the viewer/audience to give up some kind of control (Mazutinec). Therefore, Berman refers to Adbusters magazine founder Kalle Lasn who implies we are only in part responsible by claiming, that most North Americans can only identify 10 plants, but can recognize 1,000 corporate brands (53). It is also important to recognize that designers are a small part of a large industry that only deserves either part of the credit, or part of the blame. Either way, is it sad that throughout the world, the second most understood word is Coke (Berman 31) and not love or hope? Responsibility to the environment Issues regarding the planets global warming, the acceleration of cultural changes, and overconsumption should be part of our society s main focus. Instead of promoting Go Green through graphic communications, McDonough and Braungart suggest designers need to instill why being less bad

  • 11. The Evil Of Society In Lord Of The Flies By William Golding Society is built upon fascinating cultures along with many religious beliefs. Although it s not perfect, we conceive it as being civilized. Nevertheless, our communities are all dependent on people. This proposes that the defects we can see in our society are caused by defects that are present in human nature. In the novel Lord of the Flies, William Goldingdemonstrates how civilization is devastated when humans wonder to the dark sides of their instinct. In his works, several characters, such as Simon and Piggy, represent the more formal side of Man. However, protagonists, like Ralph, transition from their diplomatic selves to savagery. This supports the claim Golding and I share that at his core, all Man is still barbaric even with his attempts at tamed behavior. In the story, a plane is struck down, crashing it on an isolated island. A number of boys, now distanced from civilization, survived. Throughout their times on the isle, many among the group tried to establish order and structure. These include Ralph, Piggy, and Simon, who resemble the accommodating side of society. During their time, Ralph was elected to be the leader, which established a form of jurisdiction and control. He comments, if it rains like when we dropped in we ll need shelters... The majority of the population have always wanted to prevent the minority in gaining their rights in fear of losing their power, and the natureconquerors have disregarded the wildernessneeds in fear of losing their profit. Environmental activists and advocates have sought to bridge the gap between the complicated and divisive relationship between the natural world and the advancing technological world. Rebecca Solnit, Wendell Berry, and John Muir all recognize the explicit relationship between social justice and the respect for the natural world. In Rebecca Solnit s essay entitled The Thoreau Problem, the American writer analyzes the problematic response and formation of Thoreau s reputation. She claims that the scholars and critics refuse to acknowledge the multidimensional aspect of Thoreau s actions, not being able to see that he could be both a revolutionary figure who is able to inspire activists, as well as a man who was passionate about natural histories. In isolating these two parts of Thoreau, a reflection of the American thought is shown that there s no belief in multifaceted ideas in regards to the environmentand social justice. However, Solnit has stated that this notion is false and detrimental to society as well as nature, stating

There are many factors that can affect someone s personality, but America s personality is categorized by the conflicting attitudes of nationalism and individualism. These attitudes affected America s view towards issues of immigration. Depending on which American personality is being used determines whether or not America is been recognized as a Salad Bowl or a Melting Pot as a country. When America is being described as Nationalistic, then the country is a Melting Pot due to the focus on the assimilation of immigrants. Conversely, when America is being described as Individualistic, the nation is a Salad Bowl because of the focus of cultural retention. The debate of whether or not America s personality is best represented by a Melting Pot or a Salad Bowl began after the turn of the century; this debate is clearly depicted in the beliefs and works of Diego Rivera and George Bellows. I also thought that she did a good job of keeping the historical information relevant to the story, because I think you can get a good understanding of how life was in ancient Greece by reading this book. I do think that this helped me think differently about this era in history because before reading this I did not have a really good understanding of ancient Greece and I wasn t really interested in learning about it at all, but this book made it very easy to get me to want to learn more about this era. If someone I knew wanted to learn about ancient Greece I think that I would recommend this book to them because it is an easy read, although it is a little long. But, I do think that someone can get a very good understanding about the history of this time period as well as being entertained by the narrative. I think the way Lyon wrote the story into a narrative made it more interesting, rather than just having to read facts. Dialogue and interactions between characters make stories a lot easier to read and they also keep the audience way more engaged. The only thing that I did not like about this book was how there were many flashbacks from Aristotle s past. I do think that it is necessary to include them so that the reader can get an idea about his early life, but it would sometimes

The Dual Nature Of The French And English Faultline In Canada When the French settled into Canada 400 years ago independently of the British, the first stages of French/Francophone identity was formed. Over time this unique identity began to emerge and become something different from the rest of Canada. Language, history, and the geography of their land continues to evolve and separate the Francophones from Canadaas their land and way of life is special to our nation. The dual nature of the French/English faultline in Canada manifested early on in history when New France was threatened by British occupation, ultimately leading to Confederation; we can continue to see this in modern times through referendums which deal with French culture and separation. Quebecis also unique geographically, containing mild to arctic climate zones and 4 geophysical regions; this is very diverse for a single province in Canada. These regions in Quebec allows for a diverse economic industry, including: hydroelectric production, agriculture, forest and mining industries. The economic production through Quebec s varying geography and their individual French culture and history is what makes Quebec a unique region in Canada. Settlers came from France when Samuel Du Champlain travelled the St. Lawrence Valley to set up the first permanent French settlement in 1608. The settlement of Quebec was made to establish fur trading posts, explore more land using the St. Lawrence River, maintain relationships with the Indigenous people, and travel further and faster

I do not know what those are but Harvey Mason had to be a great musician to master all those instruments. Since a young age Harvey Mason never had a problem picking up beats. He remembers lying in bed at night, locking into the rolling groove of his mother s washing machine, fluffing his pillow into a ball and playing along to it with his fingers. Harvey started taking formal drum lessons at age 7, playing in school groups eventually purchasing his first drum set at 16 years old. In this paper I will be speaking of the relations between a film and two sections we read. The film is the Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and excerpts are from The Good Life by Charles Guignon including Rousseau s theories on happiness, and Sarte s theories of free will that all inter relate. In The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind a very meek Joel and the crazy Clementine start a relationship on a train across New York. They seem to be drawn to each other despite that they have basically opposite personalities. They both do not know it at the time but Joel and Clementine actually used to date. They are now broken up but had spent two years together. After their last argument, Clementine hires a service to erase all of her memories of their relationship. When Joel figures this out he is devastated and in turn decides to do the same. However, for Joel to complete this process he is forced to go through all of their memories and he changes his mind about the procedure. He tries to cease the process by hiding Clementine in hidden parts of his unconscious. In Joel s last memory they agree to meet in Montauk and they meet again and start to fall in love ... • 35. My Reflection On Womens And Gender Studies Before taking this class, I did not know a lot about women s and gender studies. Reading the different books and looking at the different pieces of art helped me the most in this class. There were many pieces in this class that influenced me to learn more about these women s and gender issues and reflect on my learning. I spent a lot of time taking notes while reading the stories and relating them to what I have experienced in my life. For example, the graphic memoir we did as a project showed how I related to women s and genderissues. It showed my struggle as I played T ball as the only girl on the team. This experience allowed me to compare it to the stories we read as part of the class. One of my favorite books we read in class was Fun Home written by Alison Bechdel. This was one of my favorites because of her writing style and the way she showed her women s and gender issues. She uses a lot of detail as she writes which is one thing I like about her writing style. Another thing I like about her writing style is the way she describes the issues that she has encountered. For example, she uses the pictures to help the reader better understand how she has struggled. I find that this helps me better understand the plot of the story. This story has greatly changed how I feel about women s and gender issues. Before reading this story, I did not realize how many issues women suffer from regarding who they are. Bechdel shows her struggle with her father and being a lesbian.

They ruled over the Moor Kingdom of Granada in the Iberian Peninsula from 711 to 1492, where the three Abrahamic religions lived in peace. In that year, the battle of Granada caused their great empire to fall. After this battle, Muslims were forced to convert to Christianity or be expelled from the land. This oppression went to the extent of forbidding any Islamic acts, behaviors, and scriptures, with violators being prosecuted, which resulted in unfair and unjust treatment for the Moors in Spain. The Moors arrived at the Iberian Peninsula in 711 by crossing the Mediterranean Sea near North Africa (Florian 20). Within seven years, the Iberian Peninsula (which they called Al Andalus) was almost completely occupied by these people (De Luca et. al. 5). Moors had control of the majority of Iberian Peninsula, but, in late 718, King Visigoths Pelayo of Alcama, fought against the Moors and defeated them at the battle of Covadonga. Later on, they were defeated at another battle: the battle of Granada. The unity of Spain played heavily in this battle. It was between Aragon s King Ferdinand and Isabella I, the Queen of Castile. They were married in 1469, soon after which the united forces of both states rose against the Moors (Florian 183). Their combined forces participated in the Reconquista, which led to the fall of

By learning alliteration, the students could create poems and tongue twisters that begin with the same initial sound. Identification and the manipulation of phonemes must be done successfully so that their poems and tongue twister are accurate. I could model an example of alliteration by saying: Ms. Alder ate Aunt Annie s apples. In rhyming, the students could hear that certain words have the same ending sound. I could model this too by saying: Ba baa black sheep, have you any wool? Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full. A clear understanding of alliteration and rhyming can also be taught through the use of read aloud texts. If I taught younger students, I could create activities that required them to substitute and or blend sounds. For example, I could say the word mat and ask the students to substitute /m / for /b/. They would then form the new word bat . As for blends, I could have the students sound out specific phonemes such as /s/ /a/ /t/ to create words such as sat .
