This means within one generation, there will be more people added on the planet than there were at the beginning of the 20th century. Feeding the growing world population poses an unprecedented challenge to human ingenuity. By 2050, food production must increase by 70% to keep pace.
Achieving the level of agricultural productivity necessary to meet the immensely risen world demand for food, fiber and fuel by 2050 will be a challenge. Meeting this challenge is made even more daunting by a number of stringent constraints including environmental challenges, limitation of resources and need to make benefits of development reach all especially the smallholder farmers.
While Advance Technologies for Precision Agriculture and Business Models around Platforms/Ecosystems have been in circulation for more than few decades but have been confined to the developed and the rich due to prohibitive cost and marginal value it brought to the table. Further complexity of the concept made it difficult or repulsive to smallholder farmers the core of agriculture ecosystem in developing world.

Jeff Bradshaw is the founder of Adaptris and Group CTO of Adaptris/F4F/DBT within Reed Business Information. He has spent his career integrating data wherever it resides and in-flight across a number of industries including Agriculture, Airlines, Telecommunications, Healthcare, Government and Finance.
Jeff has worked with and contributed to a number of international standards bodies and continues to work with large enterprises to help them extract value from their data silos and share data seamlessly with their trading partners to achieve business benefit. For the last few years Jeff has been focusing on Big Data and how to gather that across a wide range of sources to help gain insight into the agri-food supply chain.

As part of overall strategic alignment, successfully delivered the divestment of a number of divisions whilst ensuring that these units were well set for the future. Diverse agro-ecological and Socioeconomic situations create opportunities as well as vulnerabilities for Nepalese farmers. Ann Tutwiler, Director General, Bioversity International presentation on NOT finding the world's next superfood. This presentation was delivered at Kew Gardens on May 12th 2016 at the State of the World's Plants Symposium.
Abstract: In the last few years, superfoods such as quinoa, amaranth and goji berries have been celebrated in the international media in recognition of their rich nutrient content.
But it is not just Western consumers that can benefit from rediscovering these forgotten foods.
M. Ann Tutwiler, Director General, Bioversity International, will explain how many nutritious traditional foods, which have largely fallen off menus and research-for-development agendas in favour of a handful of staple grains, are starting to make a comeback on the plates of the world’s poorest and most malnourished populations.
Bioversity International carries out research on a diverse range of underutilized crops, and advocates for their wider use in healthy diets from sustainable food systems. This overview will include examples of how research-for-development efforts on quinoa in the High Andes and minor millets in India have helped bring diverse varieties back to the farm, the market and the plate. She will highlight how these crops are often not just nutrient-rich but also have a high potential to contribute to livelihoods. They are often also highly resilient to today’s production challenges, such as climate change.
In conclusion, M. Ann Tutwiler will outline the urgent need to identify, promote and protect these useful plants which all have the potential to be placed into a diverse basket of Super Foods when it comes to delivering food and nutrition security.

Within the programme on Climate Change for Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS), researchers have already applied Big Data analytics to agricultural and weather records in Colombia, revealing how climate variation impacts rice yields. After defining its Open Data-Open Access strategy, CGIAR has launched an internal call for proposals for big data analytics platforms that will provide services to the Agri-Food system programmes and parners, and will interconnect the CGIAR data to other multi-disciplinary big data. The seminar will present the pespectives of the envisioned platforms.

Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
