Distance Education Policy

      Faculty Basics
Course Load
• Online courses will be scheduled with
  equivalent credit hours as their face-to-face
  counterparts.
Ownership
• All materials developed by faculty for use in
  distance education courses are jointly owned
  by ECAE and the authoring faculty member.

• ECAE retains the right to used and reused by
  ECAE without the consent of the instructor
  responsible for developing the course.
Technical Skills
• Any faculty wishing to teaching in the distance
  mode must first successfully complete the
  Office of Professional Development’s
  “Introduction to Teaching Online” and
  complete the International Computer Driver’s
  License (ICDL) before being assigned any
  online teaching loads.
IT Support
• The Educational Technology Department will
  be responsible for providing timely
  technology-related support for faculty
  teaching distance education courses.

IT Support
• The Office of Professional Development can
  also provide faculty teaching distance
  education courses with continuous support by
  assigning the faculty member a Technology
  Mentor, who can be contacted directly about
  resolving day-to-day technology-related
  issues.
Responsibilities
• Faculty members are responsible for the
  content, materials and educational activities
  present in their courses.
• Faculty members are responsible for ensuring
  that their online courses are not in violation of
  UAE or international copyright laws.
Responsibilities
• Faculty members teaching any distance
  education course must ensure that the course
  meets the high level of quality required by all
  ECAE course and to this end must ensure that
  their course contains:

• An approved syllabus clearly posted within the course.
• A sufficient range of appropriate media resources.
• A sufficient range of interactive/collaborative learning
  activities.
• Clearly posted grading rubrics for each assessed item.
• Clearly posted methods for contacting the instructor.
• Copyright permission for any reproduced work
  contained within the course.
• Clear timelines for the provision of feedback to
  students.
