2. ANATOMY –:
The eyelid are mobile tissue curtains placed in front of the eyeball. These act
as a shutter protecting the eye from injuries and excessive light.
Layer of eyelid-
Skin
Layer of subcutaneous areolar tissue
Layer of striated muscles
Submuscular areolar Tissues
Fibrous layer
Layer of Non-striated muscle fibre

3. GLAND OF EYELID -:
Meibomian gland, Gland of zeis and Gland of moll
Accessory Lacrimal Gland, Gland of Krause and wolfing
Goblet cell, crypt of Henle and Gland of manz
4. DISEASES OF EYELID -:
Chalazion- A Chalazion occurs when the opening of oil producting gland in
the eyelid become clogged.
Sign and SyMpToms-
Painless swelling in the eyelid
Swelling of the membrane that covers the surface of the eye and inner surface
of the eyelid
Blurred vision
Red or Grey area on the inside of eyelid
5. TREATMENT OF CHALAZION-:
1- Conservatively Treatment- More than 50% of chalazion resolve with this treatment. Warm compression with a wet face
cloth 5-6 time in a day (5-5 min)
2- Medical Treatment- I/v Injection (Avoid)
>Trimcinolone steroid
3- Surgical Treatment -
6. HORDEOLUM -:
There is 2 types of Hordeolum :-
1- Internal Hordeolum
2- External Hordeolum
It is an information of glands of eyelid. The Infection is most often caused by
bacteria call "Staphylococcus Aureus“
7. 1- Internal Hordeolum :- It is a suppurative inflammation of
the Meibomian gland
2- External Hordeolum :- It is an acute suppurative
inflammation of gland of Zeis and moll.
8. SIGN AND SYMPTOMS :-
Eyelid Redness
Puffy Eyes
Eyelid pain
Lump on the eyelid
Mild watering
Photophobia
9. TREATMENT -:
Hot compression 2-3 times in a day are very useful
Antibiotic eyedrops ( 3-4 times in a day)
Systemic Antibiotics
Eye Ointment (at bed time)
10. BLEPHRITIS :-
Blephritis is inflammation of the eyelid. It is chronic
inflammation of the lid margin.
These are two types :-
1 - Anterior Blephritis
Ulcerative Blephritis
squamous blephritis
2 - Posterior Blepharitis
11. ULCERATIVE BLEPHRITIS -:
Inflammation in gland of Zeis and moll. Appears hard yellow crust
around the eyelashes that when removed, leave small sores that
bleed.
Clinical features - :
Itching
Irritation
Mild discomfort
Gluing of cilia
Yellow colour crest at the lid margin
13. SIGN AND SYMPTOMS :-
Symptoms :-
Disposition of whitish material at lid margin
Mild discomfort
Irritation
Watering
Falling of Eyelashes
Sign - :
White Dandruff like scales are seen on lid margin.
There is no ulcer removing these scales
15. POSTERIOR BLEPHARITIS :-
Inflammation in meibomian
gland.Posterior blepharitis can occur when
the gland of the eyelid irregularly produce
oil.Meibomian Blephritis (Hyper secretion
of Lipid)
16. SIGN AND SYMPTOMS :-
Symptoms -:
Watering
Redness
Excessive burning in the eye
Red swelled eye
Sign :-
Fat Globules on the lid margin
Oedema around the eye.
