Sucrose, also known as cane sugar, is a sugar commonly used at home that is stored in plants like sugar cane. When hydrolyzed, sucrose forms a mixture of glucose and fructose. Maltose is commonly called malt sugar and is present in germinating grain, formed from two molecules of glucose. Lactose is commercially known as milk sugar and is the main carbohydrate found in milk, formed when glucose and galactose join together.
