Conducting a Comprehensive Digital State Review:
§ Evaluate the organization’s current standing and external
environment within the digital landscape, establishing its competitive
position.

1.1 Review Current State
§ Review the organization’s current vision and mission in the digital
context. The primary questions to answer are:
• Why does the organization exist in the digital landscape?
• What function does the organization perform digitally? (What digital
products or services does it offer?)
• For whom does the organization perform this function digitally?
• How does the organization go about fulfilling this function in the digital
realm?
§ Identify the major digital forces driving the organization. Examples of
driving forces are digital products and services being offered
(including online), methods of digital distribution, the digital market
being served, digital growth, etc.

1.2 Identify Areas of Digital Competitive Advantage
§ Identify the organization’s areas of digital competitive advantage by
conducting a competitive assessment of the target digital market:
• Who is the competition within this target digital market?
• Who are the direct digital competitors (i.e., those providing the same
digital product or service)?
• Who are the indirect digital competitors within the industry (i.e., those
providing similar alternative digital products or services which provide the
same or similar digital benefits)?
