Everyone has a story to tell: Incorporating Digital Storytelling - Karen Tharrington, North Carolina State University
5. Digital storytelling is simply applying one’s creative idea in a manner that allows him or
her to add multimedia (video, images, and audio) to their voice.
What is Digital Storytelling?
6. • Focus on a specific topic or
point of view.
• Expure time vary in lenght
(most often 2 – 10 minutes).
• Can be used for any topic
(history, personal narrative,
math, retelling a story, etc.)
10. 2. A Dramatic Question
You want to capture your audience’s
attention.
You want to ask the daramatic question as you
open your story…
And answer by the time you end your tale.
12. 3. Emotional Content
Serious issues that come alive in a personal
and powerful way and connects the story to
the audience.
Emotion can help hold attention.
14. 4. The gift of your voice
This give to a chance to literally speak to the
audience, and convey your message in a clear and
easy to understand tone.
You may not like it, but others will.
16. 5. The power of soundtrack
The right music can set the story, and can
convey emotion.
Think about, if you:
“Change the music… change the emotion.”
18. 6. Economy
Using just enough content to tell the story
without overloading the viewer.
Too much information can detract from the
story, and lose the audiences attention.
20. 7. Pacing
The rhythm of the story and gow slowly or
quickly it progresses.
A compact, brief, fast moving story will be much
more engaging than a story that dragson.
