Edge-controlled, cloud-connected: Design patterns for the IIoTJohn Breitenbach
RTI presents a RIoT lunch and learn on the IIC's layered databus design pattern for the IIoT. Industrial systems requiring millisecond response times like autonomous vehicles, patient monitoring, and the power grid can’t push data up to the cloud for live decision making. Latencies across the wide-area network mean those decisions arrive too late. For real-time response, data must be shared and acted on locally. Some data, however, may need to be pooled via the cloud to work with back-end systems for billing, analytics, diagnostics, and other enterprise level applications. What are the recommended design patterns to satisfy both needs? Join this lunch and learn for an overview of the “big 3” architectural patterns recommended by the Industrial Internet of Things Reference Architecture. A live walkthrough of the Layered Databus pattern will demonstrate real-time, millisecond control at the edge coupled with enterprise connectivity all the way back to the Web.
The document discusses the four industrial revolutions throughout history and the current fourth industrial revolution. It summarizes:
The 1st industrial revolution used water and steam power for mechanical production. The 2nd revolution introduced electricity and mass production. The 3rd revolution automated production further with IT systems. Now, the 4th industrial revolution is underway, using technologies like the internet of things, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and more to automate complex tasks.
It then discusses key technologies of the 4th industrial revolution across physical, biological, and digital domains. Finally, it outlines Microsoft's vision and offerings around digital transformation to engage customers, empower employees, optimize operations, and transform products using their cloud platform and services.

It describes Bentley Systems' software tools that allow users to create 3D models from photos, view them in virtual reality, and leverage digital twin technologies. This helps asset owners better manage assets across their lifecycle, increase safety and efficiency, and make more informed decisions. The presentation then outlines specific use cases for augmented reality in training, collaboration, and accessing work instructions and concludes with a call for questions.

Digital twins are virtual representations of physical objects or systems which are expected to proliferate greatly by 2020. They allow real-time data from sensors to be integrated into virtual models to enable optimization and self-monitoring. For manufacturing, digital twins of products, factories and performance can be created using data from design, building and operations to enable benefits like smart scheduling, preventative maintenance and maximized output. Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
