3. Raster Graphics
ā¢ A Raster Graphic is made of Bitmaps
ā¢ Bitmaps are made of pixels
ā¢ These can be visible visible via
monitors & other different displays.
ā¢ Pixels are what the graphic is made
up of
ā¢ They record information and have a
fixed resolution, therefore, if
resized, can cause distortion e.g. if I
made a raster graphic larger than it
is intended to be, this would leave
to pixilation (visible blocks of
pixels).
ā¢ Raster Graphics are stored in files,
via different formats
4. Vector Graphics
ā¢ These are made up of
vectors/paths.
ā¢ They have a definitive start and
end points.
ā¢ These have curves, points and
angles between them.
ā¢ The scaling can be big and small
therefore no definition is lost
ā¢ Based on different mathematical
equation, which are used on
monitors & computers. (this allows
you to view the image)
ā¢ The image to the right shows the
main difference between the two
graphics: raster can loose quality &
become pixelated, whereas vector
does not lose any of its quality.
5. JPEG
Stands For
Used For
Advantage
Disadvantage
Joint photographic experts group
JPEGs have a general use as most
photographs use this format. Used on web
formats e.g. Facebook. Raster graphic. Also
the norm format setting on digital
cameras.
They can be compressed, therefore they
have a small file size.
They do not take up a lot of memory
Widely used: easy to find a program that
uses this format.
Digital cameras also use this file type, so
JPEG images are easily transferrable.
During the compression and
decompression they lose quality, therefore
the image is less defined.
The quality can quickly change from being
high quality to low quality.
Not recommended if a lot of editing & reediting will be done.
7. TIFF
Stands For
Tagged image file format
Used For
Desktop publishing, adobe design
documents. Raster graphic. Specific to
computers, as it is a computer file format.
Advantage
During compression it does not loose
quality, compared to JPEG.
Using TIFF on Photoshop, you can preserve
layers / files, which cannot be done on
some other file types e.g. JPEG.
High colour depth.
Disadvantage
Compared to a JPEG image, TIFF does not
compress nearly as much, therefore, it
uses a very large file.
The software you can use with TIFF, is
limited.
8. PSD
Stands For
Used For
Photoshop document
Image manipulation e.g. front cover for
magazines. Raster graphic. Specific to
Photoshop, as it is a Photoshop file
Advantage
You can save many different layers, which
allows you to alter the work later on if you
wish.
Supports transparency. This adds a
different technique that would not be
seen otherwise on other file types.
Very high quality images.
Disadvantage
Due to the fact the images are of such a
high quality, you end up getting very large
files. This can fill up the storage on your
computer & hard drives very easily. This
can be expensive to keep up with.
You have to purchase the software you can
use, which is expensive (Photoshop)
Limited to the software you can use
(Photoshop).
10. AI
Stands For
Adobe illustrator art
Used For
Logo creation. Vector graphic. Widely used
file type to share 2D shape drawings like
logos.
Advantage
As this file type is Vector, it can be scaled
big and small& no quality is lost.
No compression is used with this file type,
therefore no quality will be lost.
Can be easy to use & complex. This varies
what user can use it.
Disadvantage
Like PSD, you are limited to the software
you can use with. Adobe Illustrator being
one of them.
Cannot be viewed easily on some viewers
without having PDF compatibility on.
12. 3DS
Stands For
Used For
3D studio
3D modelling animation and rendering,
moving images. Used in the creation of
animated characters and environments.
Vector graphic.
Advantage
3DS is the industry standard therefore you
are flexible to the different software you
can use.
As it is the industry standard, the people in
the industry know how to use it easily.
Incredibly detailed & high quality file type.
Disadvantage
Huge file types, these are harder to store.
Complicated to use, you have to be a
professional to use this program.
Expensive software, again adding to only
professionals & the industry to use it.
16. Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
What I liked about my image is that you could actually tell it was a giraffe. The shape
of the body, the colour of the body & spots helped it to look like a giraffe. We used the
shape tool & the free transform tool to try & get the image as close to the original as
possible.
What would you improve if you did it again?
What I would improve on if I did it again is the lacking of features. I would include
features such as the eyes, nose mouth to make it look closer to the real thing. I would
also finish the spots on the image. I would fill in gaps to improve the quality of the
work.
18. Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
1) What I like about the first image is that the face looks like her actually face, thanks
to rotoscoping, I could follow the actual shape of her face. I couldnāt do this by just
using shapes. I also like the colours I used, as they contrast against one another,
allowing each feature to stand out.
2) With my second one, I liked how, by using different tools, I made some of the
features more defined. Such as the nose & the colour variations of her hair.
What would you improve if you did it again?
1) If I had to improve this image if I did it again, I would define the image. For example,
I could include the colour variations of her hair, shadow change on her face.
2) I improved upon my first go of rotoscoping on this image by using tools that would
define her features. If I had to improve upon it though, I would change the golden
highlights in her to look more graphic-like.
20. Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
1) What I like about this image is how the quote & the colour I used are linked
together (āOn Wednesdays, we wear pinkā & the colour pink)
2) What I like about this image is that it isn't just text, there is also a graphic
underneath it that I made. Also, I like how I colour-coordinated the colour of the
real food, with the graphic of the food & the the colour of the text. I think this is
really effective.
What would you improve if you did it again?
1) To improve, I could just like my second one, produce a graphic that the text could
be on top of & be linked to e.g. an item of clothing.
2) To improve upon this image, I would make the colours brighter. This would catch
the eye & also make it look better in general.
22. Evaluation
What did you like about your image?
I liked how the colours used were just different gradients of one another, it created a
classic house style. I also liked the font it used, its very simple. Overall, it created a well
put together and stylized logo.
What would you improve if you did it again?
If I was to do this again, I would change the background writing so it looked more like
a newspaper & also so you could see it said āprint base mediaā.

Content
I am going to make three YouTubers (Grace Helbig, Mamrie Hart, Hannah Hart) into
graphics for their film Camp Takota. I will use the outfits they usually wear onset. I am
going to rotoscope over the image to get a outline, then I will have to make the
clothing myself. As I want it to look like a graphic, I am going to use white & green only.
I also want the design to look very simplistic & to look like something that would be
made at camp.
28. Proposal
Audience
My niche audience is going to fans of three YouTubers & also fans of the film, broadening the
audience. Their fans are usually young females (16 -21). Theyāre alternative (donāt follow the
crowd), therefore they should appreciate my quirky design plan & would enjoy the fact they
are part of a niche audience. Not a lot of people will have this design.
Deadline
1st October
Schedule
Day 1
Prepare the text for t-shirt(s). This
consists of saving the font & adding it to
the 4 templates. On this day I will also
start my first t-shirt, which is the first
flat-plan on the next slide. This will
consist of rotoscoping around the
images to get the shape I like. I do not
have to find any images to rotoscope as
I have already saved them to make the
flat-plans.
Day 2
On this day I will complete my first tshirt& will start my 2nd t-shirt (2nd flatplan). This will, again, consist of using
rotoscoping the image (which can be
time consuming). The 3rd t-shirt may
start to be produced, but this depends
on how long the 2nd design takes.
Day 3
On this final day (depending if I started
the 3rd design) I will finish my third
design & start + finish my forth and final
design. Although there should have
already be up to the standard I want
them at, I should have time just to alter
a few things at the end (if something
has gone wrong or something could be
better.)
29. Whole image will
be the same colour:
consistency
These outfits will
be followed (the
faces on the 3
other flat-packs will
be used)
Green outlines, same
color as text & log.
Green connotes
nature, which then
connotes camp & being
outside. It is also the
same colour as the
official merchandise
(making my work look
professional).
Rotoscoped image
of the three women,
with a āhand-madeā
look to the design.
Digital Flat Plan
A log is used in the
official logo, so I
felt it would be
appropriate to use
one for my design. I
also felt it was
appropriate to use
the font they also
use.
30. Rotoscoped image
of Hannahās face &
hair, with a āhandmadeā look to the
design. I will also
make a bandana for
her.
Green outlines, same
color as text & log.

definition, without
ruining the colour
scheme

33. Peer Evaluation
ā¢What are the strengths of the final image?
It all has a consistent theme throughout, youāve
portrayed each person in the film very well and the
house style is consistent. I love the different features
on each character especially the bandana. I like how
you have done a t-shirt for each person, it gives people
a choice who they want on their t-shirt, or to have all
three.
ā¢ What could be developed if the image was repeated?
Used a different colour, or different shades.
34. Peer Evaluation
What are the strengths of the final image?
ā¢I really like how all of the images link in with each other
and all have the same colour design as it shows
consistency throughout their work. Just adding some of
the facial features has worked really well and gives them
more character. All the designs have been done really
well and show skill.
What could be developed if the image was repeated?
ā¢ Because all of the designs are green it doesnāt give
much choice for the buyer so maybe have different
colours.
35. Peer Evaluation
What are the strengths of the final image?
ā¢ I like how they have used 3 images to make one final
image and put them all together this makes a strong
link between the images. The use of only a few facial
images makes it more interesting as you want to see
what expression there pulling etc.
What could be developed if the image was repeated?
ā¢ Try to use different skills on a different image and a
wider range of colours to make it more brighter and a
wider variety of skills.
36. Peer Evaluation
ā¢ What are the strengths of the final image?
ā¢ He has done the majority of the creation
himself using rotoscoping. He has also added
some nice detail to the hair.
ā¢ What could be developed if the image was
repeated?
ā¢ He could add a little more detail else where
38. Does your final product reflect your
original intentions?
ā¢ I believe my final product does reflect my original intentions for my
product
ā¢ I worked on top of the same images as seen on my flat plan. I stuck to the
majority of the same image line, but changed a few things (adding extra
hair, changing outfits) to make the overall design look better
ā¢ I changed the original font to something more design orientated (logs =
camp fire = camp takota).
ā¢ I, instead of using the original faces on the photograph altogether, I used
the outlines of their individual photos. I believe this shows an overall &
coherent theme throughout the three designs.
ā¢ During the production of my final image, I also decided to make some
more changes e.g. where the log went. I actually decided to change it into
a log (again linking it to a camp). I thought it made the overall design look
better.
41. Is your product suitable for your
audience?
ā
ā
ā¢ My final designs came out the way I wanted to & that was based upon my
first audience proposal
ā¢ Although I did have females primarily targeted, but as I used the colour
green (which is deemed a gender neutral colour) males will not be put off
buying my t-shirts if they wanted to. This is also helped by redbubble as
they allow you to decide on the kind of t-shirt you want (girly-fit, regular
etc.)
ā¢ Linking to Uses & Gratifications theory, my audience can relate to the
people involved in the film on a personal level. This then makes them
more likely to buy the final product. They also have a choice to whom they
identify the most with (or all of them).
42. What do you like/dislike about the
techniques you have used?
ā¢
I have used to main tools whilst producing my
final product
1.
Rotoscoping: I used the polygonal lasso tool to
select certain parts of the image I was working
on top of so I could turn it into a graphic &
change the colour. Doing this is time
consuming & sometimes mistakes can be
made easily, but once done correctly, it can
look very effective.
2.
Colour Range: I used the colour range to select
certain parts of the image e.g. a certain shade
of hair. This would select this part of the
image. You would then copy it, create a new
layer & then paste it into said layer. This
technique is less time consuming than
rotoscoping & can be more effective. I say can
because it can grab certain parts of the image
you do now want & this is time consuming to
find & then rub out with the eraser tool.
ā¢
I used the two techniques the most as I felt
the most confident with them & also they
work well together.
43. What do you like/dislike about how
your final product looks?
ā¢
My final product looks exactly the way I want it
to, but specifically, there are something's I like &
dislike
Likes:
ā¢ I like the fact a chose specific features about
each actress to add a personal touch to each
individual design (eyes, bandana, mouth)
ā¢ A coherent scheme is found throughout each of
the designs. The font used, logs, colours etc. are
just a few things that run throughout all my
designs.
ā¢ I also like the fact it looks like it could have
possibly been made at an actual camp.
Dislikes:
ā¢ Mamrie (the woman on the left) does not look
as effective as the other two on the group tshirt. It was difficult to rotoscope her, compared
to the other two.
44. Why did you include the content you
used?
ā¢ I used these images as they allowed me
to show specific detail of each individual.
ā¢ I used the font as it linked to the title of
the film & it is the official font that was
used for the film.
ā¢ I used colour range to add definition to
some parts of the design e.g. hair.
ā¢ I used the colour green as it connotes
nature, which then again links to the
ideas of a camp being out in nature.
Green is also the official colour used by
the film. I also used black to highlight
specific features and their names to
show specific things about them.
45. What style have you employed in your
products?
ā¢ I was influenced by other graphic
design products (shown on right) as I
felt they would look good on a tshirt as they're usually not to fussy &
look effective on said product.
ā¢ I was also influenced on pre-existing
Camp Takota merchandise (shown
on left), which allowed me to make
my products look as professional as
the official products.
ā¢ I think the visual style of my product
is hand-made. I wanted my final
product to have a camp arts and
crafts feel to them as, again, it links
to the movie. I didnāt want my
products to look rough either
though. I believe I got the right
balance.
46. What were the strengths and weaknesses
of the pre-production and planning
Strengths of planning/research
ā¢ The research I did before starting to make my product was helpful as it
allowed me to see what kind of products were already out in the market.
This allowed me to see if my niche audience was being catered for.
Weaknessā of planning/research
ā¢ I actually felt a little intimidated by some of the products I found e.g. I
didnāt feel like I could create work up to that standard.
Strengths of pre-production
ā¢ Pre-production allowed me to see what my product could look like. This
stopped the weakness I felt during the planning & research part of the
task.
Weaknessā of pre-production
ā¢ I felt like I couldnāt move away from my initial flat back plan that came
from the pre-production (although I did in the end)
47. One block colour
Allows all features
to be on the same
level. The colour
green also links in
with the whole
theme of nature as
it connotes nature
Logs
Links to font as
they are also logs
& it connotes a
campfire which
links to title of film.
Analysis
The text is large
Easy to read
Grace & Hannah
(right & middle)
look good.
Mamrie
(left) not up to
the same
standard. I would
spend more time
on Mamrie if I
were to repeat
the project.
The image
(if you look at my other
designs) you can tell are linked
together. There is a coherent
theme. I didnāt add too much
detail because I didnāt want it
to look too fiddly
48. Detail

51. Peer Feedback
ā¢ My peer feedback was good &
I agreed with most of what
was said & was happy that
those that did give me
feedback liked my designs.
ā¢ Three of the four people
mentioned the colour I used &
how it doesnāt always look
right & different colours of tshirts. The colour is part of the
design & connotes well with
the film, that is why I chose it.
If I was given more time, I
could add more colour
designs.
ā¢ Iām also also happy my peers
have noticed the attention to
detail of the characters
personality.
