13. Q1. What do the tokens represent?
The tokens represent the food that
was eaten
Q2. What do the spaces on the board
represent?
The spaces on the board game represent the
different organs or structures of the
digestive system
14. Q3. What do the spaces on the board game
represent?
The directions on some of the spaces describe the
different physical and chemical conditions that
affect proper functioning of the digestive system
Q4. What do the directions on some of the
spaces tell you about the digestive system
15. The digestive systems of different
representative species of animals are
similar to each other in that they are
all made up of a continuous tube
with two openings: the mouth and
the anus
16.
17. Digestion
Digestion is the breakdown of large
insoluble food molecules into small
water-soluble food molecules so
that they can be absorbed into the
watery blood plasma.
18. Parts
mouth
Esophagus
Stomach
Small Intestine
Large Intestine
Gall bladder
Liver
Pancreas
Anus
rectum
19. MOUTH
Ingestion takes place
It is where the teeth physically break down
food by chewing and with the saliva which
lubricates the food.
20. Esophagus
A long muscular tube that squeezes the food
and connects the mouth to the stomach
The muscular contractions of the esophagus is
called peristalsis
21. PHARYNX
Located at the back of the mouth cavity
its muscular walls function in the process of
swallowing, and it serves as a pathway for the
movement of food from the mouth to the
esophagus.
22. STOMACH
A storage tank for digesting food by mixing it with powerful
acids to kills bacteria and break down starchy foods
Protein digestion begins
Food remains in the stomach for 3 hours where it physically
broken down by churning muscular contractions of the
stomach wall muscles.
23. SMALL INTESTINE
Long tube that is about 7 m long and 2.5 cm in diameter
Digestion finishes up here and all the nutrients are absorbed
into the blood through the villi.
3 parts
Duodenum
Jejunum
ileum
24. LARGE INTESTINE
Takes up any left over water, vitamins and
electrolytes ( like sodium and chloride) in food
waste.
Thicker in diameter than the small intestine
Mucus lubricates the feces
25. RECTUM
Storage area for feces at the end of the large
intestine
There is a sphincter surrounding the anus, the
hole through which feces passes on defecation.
27. LIVER AND GALL BLADDER
Produces bile to break down fats, cleanses blood and
changes nutrients into forms the body can use and store
Converts simple sugar into glycogen
Gall Bladder- It is where bile is temporally stored
28. PANCREAS
Produces alkaline substance which is secreted
into the duodenum to neutralize the stomach to
make food nutrients less acid.
Breaks down food chemically
29. Salivary Gland
Produces saliva that moisten the food in the
mouth
contains enzymes that breaks down starchy
food like bread
30. APPENDIX
It is located in the right iliac region of the
abdomen (in the lower right-hand abdominal
area), measuring about four inches
31. FUNCTIONS OF THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
Digest the food we eat
Take the nutrients out of your food
so your body can use it
