We have learnt that our body is like a machine and our
body
needs energy to do work.
Food gives us energy to work and play. It helps us to
grow and makes us strong and healthy.
The food contains various components called
Nutrients like:-
• CARBOHYDRATES
• FATS
• VITAMINS
• PROTEINS
•MINERALS etc.
Food that contains proper amount
of all nutrients,
Roughage and water is called a
BALANCED DIET.
It is required for good health and
proper growth.
What is digestion?
Digestion is a process in
which the food we eat is
broken into simple, soluble
substances which our body is
able to use.
The journey of food on its way of digestion goes
through various stages that is:-
MOUTH
STOMACH
INTESTINE
SMALL
INTESTINE
LARGE
INSTESTINE
MOUTH
We eat food through our mouth. Our
mouth has two major parts which enable
us to break the food into smaller particles.
TEETH TONGUE MOUTH
When we take food our sharp
biting teeth in the front cut it,
while our flat grinding teeth
At the back, grind the food.
And the tongue helps to move
the food around in the mouth.

Tongue
The tongue contains the taste buds
on its surface. A digestive juice
SALIVA mixes with the food. It
changes the starch into sugar. Hence
the food tastes sweet.
From the mouth, the food goes into
the stomach through the food pipe.

STOMACH
Our stomach is like a bag made of
muscles. Several digestive juices
produced by the walls of the
stomach, mix the food and digest
it. The stomach takes about the
two-three hours to digest the food.
NOW I SHOW A DIAGRAM OF STOMACH
The stomach
take two- three
hours to digest
the food.
More digestive juices from
the LIVER and PANCREAS
are added here.
The juices mix with the food
and the process of digestion
is complete.

SMALL INTERSTINE
From the stomach the food goes to
the long coiled tube called SMALL
INTERSTINE.
LARGE INTESTINE
Large intestine is much wider than
the small intestine. It absorbs water
from the food wastes and carries it
to the KIDNEYS. The solid waste
materials are excreted out as faces
through the ANUS.
