The students determined the concentration of manganese in a pill called Arthu Z that claimed to contain 4mg of manganese. They calculated the average weight of the pills and crushed and diluted the pills to perform spectrometry analysis. The results found that the pills contained 2.7mg of manganese, less than the 4mg listed on the label. The students concluded that their hypothesis was confirmed and that federal agencies should regulate supplement production more strictly since manufacturers do not always accurately analyze product contents.
