Pricing: High-Impact Business Strategy or Departmental Tactic?TRG Arts
Is your organization’s pricing strategy focused only on the cost of admission? Developed in just one department? This 90-minute workshop, presented at the Arts Reach Canada Conference in May 2013, was designed to show leadership teams how much more there is to consider and to gain. High-impact pricing generates positive perception, improved patron loyalty, and greater revenue for every admission or seat sold. Jill Robinson, President of TRG Arts, the consulting firm that pioneered dynamic pricing and demand management in the arts, will open the session with a short quiz. You’ll evaluate your organization’s pricing approach. Then, hear how best pricing practices can earn double-digit revenue increases when your management and staff play the right roles. Take home new ideas for effective pricing leadership, decision-making, and staff team participation.

FutureSkills: Refreshing IT Skills in State and Local GovernmentPaul W. Taylor
State and local government faces the challenge and opportunity of keeping a strong bench of IT professionals with the skills needed to serve citizens how and when they expect to be served. It means a careful balance between keeping legacy systems operating, pushing forward into cloud, mobile, big data, analytics and the disruptive technologies emerging from the civic tech sector. To those ends, it requires organizations to pivot with seasoned employees pivoting toward the future and young people pivoting toward public service.

How do you take a gigantic organization like PayPal that was entrenched in a culture of a “”long shelf life”” and transform it to a culture of rapid experimentation? Bill will give 3 principles applied to PayPal engineering to make it a full partner with Lean UX. This will be illustrated by showing how they re-factored the tech stack and changed the way engineers work in Lean streams with design & product partners and how it plays with agile.
As a backdrop Bill will discuss several historical factors in the field of software engineering that are antithetical to the Lean Startup mindset but still find their way into most large enterprises. By understanding this historical context and applying lean principles he will demonstrate how a lean transformation can take place in any enterprise.
Presented at UXPA 2015 in San Diego
From the conference program:
Let's go zero to wireframe with wearables!
Wearables can be tough to understand and design for, especially if you don’t have experience with the hardware. In one evening we’ll get you up to speed on wearable technology. We’ll talk about two trends, context and continuity, and focus on how those trends will impact the user experience of screen-based wearables. Then we’ll spend the rest of our time getting hands-on by wire framing a smart watch app.
In this workshop we will:
+ Explore the world of wearables, and hone in on smart watches.
+ Explore the challenges that come along with screen-based wearables - specifically context and continuity.
+ Get hands-on with smart watches - wireframing a smart watch app with feedback and discussion.
You’ll leave this workshop with the skill and knowledge you need to get started designing the UX for smart watches.
During the past three months I have been in contact with several organizations and vendors that have either already implemented SCORM or have been working on implementing SCORM as part of their mobile learning strategy. This helped me to identify the use cases for this presentation.
My objectives for this presentation and also for my ongoing research interests are the following:
1) Generate a list of mobile learning technologies that use SCORM.
2) Publish general best practices for designing SCORM content for mobile devices.
3) Identify which technologies are available when implementing SCORM for mobile devices.
4) Identify potential updates to SCORM that will enhance future mobile learning.
Today I will talk about some specific mLearning examples and provide you with the 5 W’s (who, what, when, where, and why) of each use case and how SCORM is being addressed as part of their mLearning strategy. Finally, I will conclude the session with the outcomes I recorded from analyzing these use cases. The outcomes will include:
• Notable Findings
• Common Technical Challenges and Considerations
• General Best Practices
