PV cell is getting importance in low and medium power generation due to easy installation, low maintenance and subsidies in price from respective nation. Most of the loads in distribution system are unbalanced and distorted, due to which there will be unbalanced voltage and current occur at load and may disturb its overall performance. Due to these loads voltage unbalance, distorted voltage and current and variable power factors in each phase can be observed. An efficient algorithm to mitigate unbalanced and distorted load and source voltage and current in solar photo voltaic (PV) inverter for isolated load system was considered. This solar PV system can be applicable to remote located industrial loads like heating, welding and small arc furnace type distorted loads and also for unbalanced loads. The PV inverter is designed such that it will maintain nearly constant voltage magnitude and can mitigate harmonics in voltage and current near the load terminals. A MATLAB/ SIMULINK based solar PV inverter was simulated and results are compared with standard AC three phase grid connected system. The proposed shows that the inverter is having very less voltage and current harmonic content and can maintain nearly constant voltage profile for highly unbalanced system.
A Comparative Study of Various AC-DC Converters for Low Voltage Energy Harves...paperpublications3
Abstract: Electromagnetic microscale and mesoscale power generators with low voltage outputs are now widely used as kinetic energy harvesters. The extrinsic vibrations on the generator can excite the internal oscillations between the proof mass magnet and the electrical damper coils. These oscillations produce a periodically varying magnetic flux in coil, inducing a corresponding AC output voltage. This output can be converted to dc and can be used to supply power to electronic loads. The conventional AC-DC converters for energy harvesting system with diode rectifiers suffer considerable voltage drop resulting increase in power loss of circuitry and complexity. As a remedy various bridgeless boost converters were designed and implemented. Standard H bridge converter with 4 switch or 2 switch, dual polarity boost converters, parallel combination of boost and buck-boost converter, integrated boost and buck-boost combination bridgeless rectifier are some of these. These circuits are studied, simulated and compared. The simulation models are drawn and simulated using MATLAB R2010a.
IjEVOLUTION OF POWER SUPPLY AND ITS APPLICATION TO ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC ...IAEME Publication
Electricity can be produced using chemical effect where the movement of ions constitutes a flow of current through the electrolyte. Electrochemical cells are used as storage cells where chemical energy can be converted into electrical energy. The most efficient and widely used method for the generation of electricity is based on the laws of Electromagnetic Induction. According to this law electromotive force is induced in a conductor whenever the conductor cuts across magnetic lines of flux. The invention of the Diode Valve in 1904 and the invention of the triode valve in 1906 and their largescale production from 1920 onwards helped to manufacture electronic products and instruments. The invention of the galena-based Cat’s whisker detector in 1906 was the milestone of manufacturing crystal radio receivers. Cuprous oxide rectifier was invented in 1926 and was used for the rectification of power supply frequencies. Selenium rectifier was invented in 1933 and it was also used for the rectification of power frequencies but selenium rectifier was more efficient and was best in low-voltage, heavy current applications. Commercial manufacturing of germanium crystal diode was started in 1946. Then invention of the bipolar junction transistor in 1948 had replaced the valves because of low power, low cost, small size and long-lasting. Electrical products are generally operated from the mains power supply. But electronic products are operated by D.C supply and nowadays most of the communication devices are designed to be operated by the low-watt power supply. Scientists and researchers are developing low power, low heat dissipation, low dropout, miniature and energy harvesting efficient power supply.
NON-ISOLATED SOFT SWITCHING DC-DC CONVERTER AND LOAD AT FULL RANGE OF ZVS IAEME Publication
A non isolated soft switching DC–DC converter and load at full range of zero-voltage
switching (ZVS) characteristic is proposed. The proposed converter consists of an auxiliary circuit,
an inductor, two switches, and 2 diodes to achieving high efficiency at full range of load. At low

energy stored varies with load and hence results in minimizes conduction loss. This leads to
switching of device for full range of load. The proposed DC - DC converter achieves high
efficiency as switching loss is reduced due to soft switching and ZVS operation which severe to
reduce conduction loss. The efficiency is improved about 4% in boost mode (2.5% in buck mode) at
full range of load. To verify the performance of the proposed converter, experimental results
prototype are presented.

Nowadays, more and more distributed generations and renewable energy
sources, such as wind, solar and tidal power, are connected to the public grid
by the means of power inverters. They often form microgrids before being
connected to the public grid. Due to the availability of high current power
electronic devices, it is inevitable to use several inverters in parallel for highpower

parallel to provide system redundancy and high reliability, which are
important for critical customers. In this paper, the modeling, designing and
stability analysis of parallel-connected three-phaseinverters are derived for
application in renewable energy systems. To enlarge voltage adjustability,
the proposed inverter employs an improved switched inductor Z-source

Application of Distribution Power Electronic Transformer for Medium VoltageIAES-IJPEDS
In this paper a distribution power electronic transformer (DPET) for feeding critical loads is presented. The PE based transformer is a multi-port converter that can connect to medium voltage levels on the primary side. Bidirectional power flow is provided to the each module. The presented structure consists of three stages: an input stage, an isolation stage, and an output stage. The input current is sinusoidal, and it converts the high AC input voltage to low DC voltages. The isolated DC/DC converters are then connected to the DC links and provide galvanic isolation between the HV and LV sides. Finally, a three-phase inverter generates the AC output with the desired amplitude and frequency. The proposed DPET is extremely modular and can be extended for different voltage and power levels. It performs typical functions and has advantages such as power factor correction, elimination of voltage sag and swell, and reduction of voltage flicker in load side. Also in comparison to conventional transformers, it has lower weight, lower volume and eliminates necessity for toxic dielectric coolants the DPET performance is verified in MATLAB simulation.
Fuzzy based control of Transformer less Coupled inductor based DC-DC converterIJERA Editor
Most of the industrial applications use any one of the basic DC-DC converter configurations namely buck,
boost, buck–boost, and Cuk converters. These converters are non-isolating converters. Buck-boost converters
use inductors for storing energy from the source and release the same to load or output. This results in high
stress across magnetic components. This drawback restricts usage of buck-boost converters to low power
applications. Flyback converters popularly have known as buck-boost converters uses transformers for
achieving wide range of step down and step up voltages. Coupled inductor based converters or tapped inductor
based converters are used for achieving wide input – wide output conversion ratios. Coherent transition between
step-down and step-up modes is achieved by a proper control scheme. This paper proposes fuzzy logic based
closed loop control scheme for control of converter switches. Theoretical derivations of control parameters with

The output fluctuations of the wind turbine varying with wind speed and the solar cell varying with both environmental temperature and sun radiation are reduced using a fuel cell. Therefore, this system can tolerate the rapid changes in load and environmental conditions, and suppress the effects of these fluctuations on the equipment side voltage. The proposed system can be used for off-grid power generation in non interconnected areas or remote isolated communities. Modeling and simulations are conducted using MATLAB/Simulink software packages to verify the effectiveness of the proposed system. The results show that the proposed hybrid power system can tolerate the rapid changes in natural conditions and suppress the effects of these fluctuations on the voltage within the acceptable range.

Due to its advantages such as it can defeat problems such as leakage current
and insertion of DC in the grid and provides low stress on power devices,
Diode-clamped three-level inverter (DCTLI) is habitually used in
transformerless photovoltaic (PV) connected to grid network. But it still has
a problem of shoot-through which dwells in its legs, so its operation not
reliable. Z source network is employed to permit operation without shoot
through risk and improve its reliability. Coupled inductors are replaced the
line transformers in to attain lower cost, reduced size, and improved its
reliability and efficiency. Coupled inductor which avoids leakage current
problem and losses. It employs coupled inductor z source diode clamped
three level inverter (CI-Z-DC-TLI) to boost the voltage and further progress
the consistency of the proposed system by avoiding the shoot through the
problem. The proposed system assures that common-mode voltage
and shoot-through risk is avoided. Moreover, controlling DC-TLI with
Hysteresis SVM algorithm which improves output voltage and current
control. Simulation and experimental results of this proposed system were

Application ofBoost Inverter to Multi Input PV systemIJERA Editor
With the shortage of the energy and ever increasing of the oil price, research on the renewable and green energy
sources, especially the solar arrays and the fuel cells, becomes more and more important. How to achieve high
step- up and high efficiency DC/DC converters is the major consideration in the renewable power applications
due to the low voltage of PV arrays and fuel cells. The conventional boost converters increase the harmonics
rate and add an extra stage of power conversion. This paper proposes a boost dc-ac inverter that can invert and
boost the output voltage in a single stage. In this paper the proposed boost dc-ac inverter is applied to the solar
power panels and is simulated using Simulink. The output results of the boost inverter are worthy promising.
Reactive Power Compensation in 132kv & 33kv Grid of Narsinghpur Areaijceronline
Power Sector is considered to be very important and priority sector as it leads to overall development of country. The cost of installation of new generating units is rising; hence generated electrical energy has to be utilized carefully and efficiently, which changes through each AC cycle. It is proposed to study the effect of group shunt compensation provided for the mix of rural and urban loads, catered from grid sub-stations in the district of Narsinghpur, to assess its adequacy and saving in transmission losses. An optimum combination of compensators which yields maximum benefits in the system shall be worked out. Load Flow Study for the effect of group shunt compensation provided on 132KV bus of 220KV sub-station Narsinghpur and on 33KV buses of 132KV sub stations Srinagar, Narsinghpur, Gadarwara and Burman sub-stations for the mix of rural and urban loads, catered from partial grid network in Narsinghpur district. If reactive power is supplied near the load, the line current can be reduced or minimized, reducing power losses and improving voltage regulation at the load terminals. The leading current drawn by the shunt capacitors compensates the lagging current drawn by the load. The selection of shunt capacitors depends on many factors, the most important of which is the amount of lagging reactive power taken by the load. Objective was to study the effect of group shunt compensation provided for the mix of rural and urban loads, catered from grid sub-stations in the district of Narsinghpur and to assess the adequacy and saving in transmission losses & to work out an optimum combination of compensators which yields maximum benefits in the system. Depending on the stages of 'ON' and 'OFF', operations to be carried out in various permutations and combinations of shunt compensators i.e. switchable capacitor banks provided on 132 KV bus of 220KV substation Narsinghpur and on 33KV buses of 132 KV substations

This paper deals with performance of photovoltaic powered Embedded
Z-Source Inverter (EZSI) fed Induction motor drive. The DC output from the
PV-Panel is boosted and converted into AC using Embedded Z-Source
Inverter. EZSI system based on the concept of Z-Source Inverter (ZSI),
which provides single stage power conversion. The EZSI also produce same
voltage gain as that of the ZSI based system. In EZSI the DC source is
embedded within the X-shaped LC impedance network, due to this EZSI has
the added advantage of inherent source filtering capability, this can be
achieved without any extra passive filter. EZSI can produce the AC output
voltage which is greater than the DC link voltage. EZSI system also provides
ride-through capability under voltage sags. In this paper the performance of
space vector modulated EZSI fed Induction Motor Drive is compared with
sinusoidal PWM controlled EZSI fed Drive system. The PV powered EZSI
fed three phase Induction Motor System is designed, modeled and simulated
using MAT LAB-SIMULINK and the corresponding results are presented.
This drive system has advantages like voltage boosting ability and reduced
harmonic content.
Reactive Power Compensation and Control via Shunt Reactors and Under Ground P...IJERA Editor
In this paper we will cover the techniques used locally to accomplish the reactive power compensation. First, the importance of reactive power compensation is explained through defining the different types of electrical power and showing the effect of power compensation on the electric power network quality. The power under ground cable is the first technique used to compensate for the inductance of overhead transmission lines and power transformers during heavy loading of the network. Then, we explore the application of the two types of shunt reactors in different locations of the network to compensate for the capacitance of the network during light loading. Finally, a conclusion is presented.

Operational performance of a PV generator feeding DC shunt and induction moto...IJECEIAES
This paper presented the transient and operational behavior of a parallel Combination of DC Shunt Motor and IM fed by a photovoltaic generator at different solar irradiance levels. The maximum power point of current/voltage (I/V) characteristic of the PV generator was achieved for different solar intensities, by utilizing an open circuit voltage method. The nonlinear operational behavior of (I/V) characteristics of the PV generator at various solar intensities and the magnetization curve of the ferromagnetic material of the DC shunt motor were both modeled by high order polynomial mathematical expressions. The study investigated the response of the system at different solar irradiance levels and changing the torque loads for both motors and then following step change in solar intensity levels with fixed loading torques for both motors. All numerical simulations were executed using MATLAB software.

Power Quality Improvement Using Cascaded H-Bridge Multilevel Inverter Based D...IJERA Editor
Cascaded multilevel configuration of the inverter has the advantage of its simplicity and modularity over the
configurations of the diode-clamped and flying capacitor multilevel inverters. This paper presents a threephase,
five-level and seven level cascaded multilevel voltage source inverter based active filter for power line
conditioning to improve power quality in the distribution network. The DSTATCOM helps to improve the
power factor and eliminate the Total Harmonics Distortion (THD) drawn from a Non-Liner Diode Rectifier

shunt compensation of a 11 kV distribution system. Finally a level shifted PWM (LSPWM) and phase shifted
PWM (PSPWM) techniques are adopted to investigate the performance of CHB Inverter. The results are
obtained through Matlab/Simulink software package.
An Heterogeneous Population-Based Genetic Algorithm for Data Clusteringijeei-iaes
As a primary data mining method for knowledge discovery, clustering is a technique of classifying a dataset into groups of similar objects. The most popular method for data clustering K-means suffers from the drawbacks of requiring the number of clusters and their initial centers, which should be provided by the user. In the literature, several methods have proposed in a form of k-means variants, genetic algorithms, or combinations between them for calculating the number of clusters and finding proper clusters centers. However, none of these solutions has provided satisfactory results and determining the number of clusters and the initial centers are still the main challenge in clustering processes. In this paper we present an approach to automatically generate such parameters to achieve optimal clusters using a modified genetic algorithm operating on varied individual structures and using a new crossover operator. Experimental results show that our modified genetic algorithm is a better efficient alternative to the existing approaches.

Optimal Power Flow with Reactive Power Compensation for Cost And Loss Minimiz...ijeei-iaes
One of the concerns of power system planners is the problem of optimum cost of generation as well as loss minimization on the grid system. This issue can be addressed in a number of ways; one of such ways is the use of reactive power support (shunt capacitor compensation). This paper used the method of shunt capacitor placement for cost and transmission loss minimization on Nigerian power grid system which is a 24-bus, 330kV network interconnecting four thermal generating stations (Sapele, Delta, Afam and Egbin) and three hydro stations to various load points. Simulation in MATLAB was performed on the Nigerian 330kV transmission grid system. The technique employed was based on the optimal power flow formulations using Newton-Raphson iterative method for the load flow analysis of the grid system. The results show that when shunt capacitor was employed as the inequality constraints on the power system, there is a reduction in the total cost of generation accompanied with reduction in the total system losses with a significant improvement in the system voltage profile

Comparison of Dynamic Stability Response of A SMIB with PI and Fuzzy Controll...ijeei-iaes
Consumer utilities are non –linear in nature. This injects increased flow of current and reduced voltage with distortions which cause adverse effect on the stability of consumer utilities. To overcome this problem we are using a modern Flexible Alternating Current Transmission System controller i.e. distributed power flow controller (DPFC). This controller is similar to UPFC, which can be installed in a transmission line between the two electrical areas. In DPFC, instead of the common Dc link capacitor three single phase converters are used. In this paper we are concentrating on system stability (oscillation damping). For analyzing the stability of a single machine infinite bus system (SMIB) we have used PI controlled Distributed Power Flow Controller (DPFC) and Fuzzy controlled DPFC. All these models are simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK. Simulation results shows Fuzzy controlled DPFC are better than PI controlled DPFC. The significance of the results are better stability and constant power supply.

This paper proposes Embellished Particle Swarm Optimization (EPSO) algorithm for solving reactive power problem .The main concept of Embellished Particle Swarm Optimization is to extend the single population PSO to the interacting multi-swarm model. Through this multi-swarm cooperative approach, diversity in the whole swarm community can be upheld. Concurrently, the swarm-to-swarm mechanism drastically speeds up the swarm community to converge to the global near optimum. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, it has been tested in standard IEEE 57,118 bus systems and results show that Embellished Particle Swarm Optimization (EPSO) is more efficient in reducing the Real power losses when compared to other standard reported algorithms.
Intelligent Management on the Home Consumers with Zero Energy Consumptionijeei-iaes
The energy and environment crisis has forced modern humans to think about new and clean energy sources and in particular, renewable energy sources. With the development of home network, the residents have the opportunity to plan the home electricity usage with the goal of reducing the cost of electricity. In this regard, to improve the energy consumption efficiency in residential buildings, smart buildings with zero energy consumption were considered as a proper option. Zero-energy building is a building that has smart equipment whose integral of generated and consumed power within a year is zero. In this article, smart devices submit their power consumption with regard to the requested activity associated with the user’s time setting for run times and end times of the work to the energy management unit and ultimately the time to start work will be determined. The problem’s target function is reducing the energy cost for the consumer with taking into account the applicable limitations.

A Pattern Classification Based approach for Blur Classificationijeei-iaes
Blur type identification is one of the most crucial step of image restoration. In case of blind restoration of such images, it is generally assumed that the blur type is known prior to restoration of such images. However, it is not practical in real applications. So, blur type identification is extremely desirable before application of blind restoration technique to restore a blurred image. An approach to categorize blur in three classes namely motion, defocus, and combined blur is presented in this paper. Curvelet transform based energy features are utilized as features of blur patterns and a neural network is designed for classification. The simulation results show preciseness of proposed approach.

Fuzzy Control of a Large Crane Structureijeei-iaes
The usage of tower cranes, one type of rotary cranes, is common in many industrial structures, e.g., shipyards, factories, etc. With the size of these cranes becoming larger and the motion expected to be faster and has no prescribed path, their manual operation becomes difficult and hence, automatic closed-loop control schemes are very important in the operation of rotary crane. In this paper, the plant of concern is a tower crane consists of a rotatable jib that carries a trolley which is capable of traveling over the length of the jib. There is a pendulum-like end line attached to the trolley through a cable of variable length. A fuzzy logic controller with various types of membership functions is implemented for controlling the position of the trolley and damping the load oscillations. It consists of two main types of controllers radial and rotational each of two fuzzy inference engines (FIEs). The radial controller is used to control the trolley position and the rotational is used for damping the load oscillations. Computer simulations are used to verify the performance of the controller. The results from the simulations show the effectiveness of the method in the control of tower crane keeping load swings small at the end of motion.
Site Diversity Technique Application on Rain Attenuation for Lagosijeei-iaes
This paper studied the impact of site diversity (SD) as a fade mitigation technique on rain attenuation at 12 GHz for Lagos. SD is one of the most effective methods to overcome such large fades due to rain attenuation that takes advantage of the usually localized nature of intense rainfall by receiving the satellite downlink signal at two or more earth stations to minimize the prospect of potential diversity stations being simultaneously subjected to significant rain attenuation. One year (January to December 2011) hourly rain gauge data was sourced from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) for three sites (Ikeja, Ikorodu and Marina) in Lagos, Nigeria. Significant improvement in both performance and availability was observed with the application of SD technique; again, separation distance was seen to be responsible for this observed performance improvements.
Impact of Next Generation Cognitive Radio Network on the Wireless Green Eco s...ijeei-iaes
Land mobile communication is burdened with typical propagation constraints due to the channel characteristics in radio systems. Also, the propagation characteristics vary form place to place and also as the mobile unit moves, from time to time.Hence, the tramsmission path between transmitter and receiver varies from simple direct LOS to the one which is severely obstructed by buildings, foliage and terrain. Multipath propagation and shadow fading effects affect the signal strength of an arbitrary Transmitter-Receiver due to the rapid fluctuations in the phase and amplitude of signal which also determines the average power over an area of tens or hundreds of meters. Shadowing introduces additional fluctuations, so the received local mean power varies around the area –mean. The present paper deals with the performance analysis of impact of next generation wireless cognitive radio network on wireless green eco system through signal and interference level based k coverage probability under the shadow fading effects.

Abstract
PV cell is getting importance in low and medium power generation due to easy installation, low
maintenance and subsidies in price from respective nation. Most of the loads in distribution system are
unbalanced and distorted, due to which there will be unbalanced voltage and current occur at load and
may disturb its overall performance. Due to these loads voltage unbalance, distorted voltage and current
and variable power factors in each phase can be observed. An efficient algorithm to mitigate unbalanced
and distorted load and source voltage and current in solar photo voltaic (PV) inverter for isolated load
system was considered. This solar PV system can be applicable to remote located industrial loads like
heating, welding and small arc furnace type distorted loads and also for unbalanced loads. The PV inverter
is designed such that it will maintain nearly constant voltage magnitude and can mitigate harmonics in
voltage and current near the load terminals. A MATLAB/ SIMULINK based solar PV inverter was simulated
and results are compared with standard AC three phase grid connected system. The proposed shows that
the inverter is having very less voltage and current harmonic content and can maintain nearly constant
voltage profile for highly unbalanced system.

1. Introduction
Photovoltaic power generation is getting more significance over past decade. This
increase can be expected due to the major factor like greenhouse effect, rapidly increasing fossil
fuel price and diminishing resources. In tropical countries like India, sunlight is available for more
than half of the time of the day; installation of solar cells is highly recommendable. It was
observed that roof top solar panels are installed for water heating, reliable and economic power
supply was increased in last five years [1-5]. The main advantages of solar PV cells are, it can be
placed in the corner of the building where much sunlight is available; it requires very less
maintenance and have more running life, excess energy can be stored in battery or can be
pumped to grid.
The solar PV with battery energy storage system is helpful for maintaining continuous
and reliable power supply to isolated agriculture type loads [6]. The solar panels can be
applicable to residential loads by embedding on the roof top [7-9]. The solar panels are used for
applications like road transport lighting and in electric power distribution network [10, 11]. There
has been very less work been proposed for application for industrial loads like arc furnace etc.
Application of PV cell for non-linear loads and its harmonics analysis was analyzed in [12, 13]. A
three-phase DC to AC inverters with high efficiency, low cost, enhanced reliability are designed
in [14- 17].
The present paper extended the application of photovoltaic cell to non-linear and
unbalanced industrial AC loads by using DC to AC inverter. The PWM based inverter is designed
to maintain nearly constant voltage profile for unbalanced load and harmonic mitigation for
distorted non-linear diode rectifier RL load. In this, voltage and current unbalance and distortion
values to be within limits and with optimum power factor value with inductance or capacitance
loads. Equations for unbalanced load and source voltage and current with average power to be
delivered by grid source or PV inverter are derived.
The paper describes modeling of the PV inverter system for distorted and unbalanced
loads, mitigation of voltage and current harmonics with analytical explanation and control circuit

2. Solar PV Based Inverter for Distorted and Unbalanced Loads
In general, small scale industrial loads in developing countries like India are welding,
induction heating and small rating arc furnace loads. Most of the loads in the same industry or
industrial locality are highly unbalanced. If these industries are located in remote places or rural
areas, they may not get quality power supply and also power lasts for few hours during summer
due to many reasons. In order to have reliable power, if industry generates their power by
installing a captive power plant with solar photovoltaic (PV) system is a better alternative.
The solar photovoltaic based inverter for distorted and unbalanced isolated industrial
loads is shown in Figure 1. The PV cell is a current source device with Dc supply as output. In
order to extract maximum power from solar cell, maximum power point tracking (MPPT)
algorithm is used. The 19 unique techniques for MPPT algorithm can be available [20]. The DC
output voltage from PV cell is to be converted to AC as most of the loads are of AC supply.
Capacitor near the bidirectional inverter is used to maintain nearly constant voltage and also acts
as a reactive power supplier for maintain nearly constant voltage profile.

The angle Φ is power factor angle which will exist if the load contains resistive with

Substituting equations 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 in equation 7 we get average power to be

Where n is the order of harmonics, with n=1 as fundamental. In this 3n and 2n order harmonics
are cancelled due to symmetrical three phase supply. 2n±1 harmonics are present and based on
control circuit and passive filters combination, higher order harmonics can be eliminated. The
sum of all harmonics divided by fundamental harmonic gives total harmonic distortion (THD).

Ƥ Ɋ (17)
Ƥ = Ɋ (18)
In the above equations, L represent equivalent inductance of the transformer and
smoothing reactor and C is the capacitance of shunt passive filter. Vpv is the PV cell output
voltage and Vc is shunt filter capacitor voltage. im is main current flowing to filter and to the linear
and non-linear loads, iload is the current flowing through the two loads. Ƥ and Ɋ are weights of
capacitor current and load currents.
From Equation (1), (3), it can be observed that if load current in all phases are different
then capacitance current flowing to filter in respective phases will be different and finally PV cell
output voltage and capacitor voltage will be different. The weights (Ƥ and Ɋ) are so chosen to
follow Equation (2) and (3), so that (5) is satisfied.
The voltage source inverter is designed such that based on im and iload current in each
phase, voltage in each leg of the inverter is switched ON or OFF to maintain constant load
voltage. Current harmonics are also controlled by using above equations. The voltage harmonics
are controlled by using reactive power compensation provided by the inverter side DC capacitor
link and proper control strategy to eliminate higher order harmonics and 9th order harmonics are
eliminated by passive shunt capacitance filter. Hence among lower order harmonics 5th and 11th
are left to be eliminated by using above control strategy.
4. Control Circuit of Inverter
The control circuit for solar PV based inverter for distorted and unbalanced loads is
shown in Figure 2.
Figure 2. Control circuit for solar PV based inverter for distorted and unbalanced loads
The three phase load current is taken as input and is filtered by using notch filter in order
to pass few harmonic order waveforms. The phase currents are converted into magnitude to get
actual magnitude of load current. The load real power is divided with PV cell or inverter capacitor
voltage to get reference load current. The difference between reference and actual load currents
is error in current waveform. This error can be minimized by using optimal tuned proportional and
integral controller (PI), which helps also in maintaining stability during rapid switching of pulses
and due to other small disturbances and its output is fed to the reference sine wave generator to
produce three phase voltage waveform. The circuit for reference sine wave generator is shown in
Figure 3.

The three phase reference sine wave is converted into magnitude and angle and is
further given to PWM based inverter to generate pulses for voltage source inverter (VSI) which is
a bidirectional IGBT switch.

The load voltage and current waveforms for grid connected distorted and unbalanced
loads are shown in Figure 5. It can be observed that all the three phases’ voltages are not same,
the red color waveform is having 650V, blue is having 300 volts and green is having 550 volts.
Similarly red color current waveform is 50A, blue color current wave is 165A and green color

The total harmonic distortion (THD) of voltage and current waveform for blue color phase
for grid connected non-linear and linear loads are shown in Figure 6 and 7.
It can be observed that voltage THD is 7.25% and current THD is 1.17% for blue phase.
For red color phase voltage and current THDs are 4.80 and 6.77%, green color phase is having
6.34 and 3.43%. However it can be observed that power factor is almost unity as resistive load is
more dominating than inductive load.

6. Conclusion
For normal grid connected supply, the three phase voltages are different due to
unbalanced loads and their voltages are 650, 550 and 300 volts respectively and their voltage
THDs are 4.8, 6.34 and 7.16% and current THDs are 6.77, 4.43 and 1.17%. The source or load
voltages are unbalanced and have THD in two phases more than 5%, which may not be

acceptable. So an additional passive filter is required to mitigate harmonics and active filter to
compensate decreased voltage due to load. With the proposed control strategy, the voltage in
the three phases is 650, 625 and 550 volts and current is 82, 290 and 52Amps respectively. The
same phase’s voltage THDs are 2.06, 3.36 and 4.8% while current THDs are 1.8, 2.8 and 1.25%.
Hence in all the three phases, maintained nearly constant voltage profile and is also having THD
less than 3%. But compared to grid source, current THD is high and in two phases it is more than
3% and however is acceptable to keep a passive filter to decrease this content. The proposed
scheme will have 5, 7 and 11 order harmonics in voltage and current waveforms and has to be
minimized by using a band pass filter. Therefore our proposed scheme can suppress voltage
harmonics due to load and also do not produce much destructive harmonics and is highly
capable to maintain load voltage almost constant. DC voltage ripples are minimum and control
scheme is easy to implement compared to Park’s transformation or phase sequential
methodologies.
