Descriptive Essay Examples College
Writing an essay on the topic "Descriptive Essay Examples College" can be both challenging and
rewarding. The difficulty lies in the need to strike a balance between providing vivid
descriptions and maintaining a coherent structure. It requires a keen eye for detail, a strong
command of language, and the ability to engage the reader's senses through words.
One challenge is finding the right examples that not only showcase descriptive writing skills but
also align with the expectations of a college-level essay. The selection process involves careful
consideration of various factors, such as relevance, complexity, and the ability to convey a clear
message. Moreover, the writer must ensure that the examples chosen resonate with the target
audience – college-level readers.
Crafting a descriptive essay for a college audience demands a higher level of sophistication in
terms of vocabulary and sentence structure. The essay should demonstrate the author's ability to
paint a vivid picture while adhering to the conventions of academic writing. Striking this balance
requires a deep understanding of the subject matter, an awareness of the audience, and a
commitment to delivering a compelling narrative.
Furthermore, the challenge extends to organizing the essay coherently. A descriptive essay
should have a logical flow, with each paragraph seamlessly transitioning to the next. Achieving
this cohesion requires careful planning and an understanding of how to structure descriptive
elements within the larger framework of the essay.
In conclusion, writing a descriptive essay on the topic "Descriptive Essay Examples College"
poses a significant challenge, demanding a combination of creative expression and academic
rigor. However, with the right approach and attention to detail, one can create a captivating piece
that not only meets the academic standards of college-level writing but also engages and
resonates with the intended audience.

Mouse Model And Sample Size
Mouse model and Sample Size
This study will be using 8 week old Smn1tm1Hung Tg(SMN2)2Hung mice
obtained from the Jackson Laboratory. This specific strain of mice will be selected
as they are double mutants; they will have undergone an exon 7 deletion in their
SMN1 gene resulting in the development of SMA, and they will have a human
SMN2 transgene, since mice do not normally have SMN2 genes. The mice will be
homozygous for the SMN1 with the knockout, this is important because over 95%
of SMA cases are due to the homozygous deletion of SMN1 genes. They will also
be homozygous for the SMN2 transgene as SMN2 hemizygous mice do not survive
past 16 days postnatal [The Jackson Laboratory, 2017].
Using these mice, we will carry out in vitro ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The power required for this experiment will be 80% to minimise the number of
experimental mice used, since the difference we hope to measure is significantly
large. A significance value of 0.05 will be used to limit the number of times type 1
errors may occur. With an effect size of 0.8, a power value of 0.8, and a
significance of 0.05, a sample size of 52 is calculated, with 26 mice embryos in the
control group and 26 in the treated group [AICBT Ltd, 2017]. Designing sgRNAs
Single guided RNAs (sgRNAs) are required to guide the Cas9 endonucleases
[Long, et al., 2014]. We need to design suitable sgRNAs to use in our experiment
and test the feasibility of CRISPR Cas9 mediated genetic repair at the cellular level
before we can inject the system into mice zygotes. Around five different sgRNAs can
be designed, targeting different regions of the mutant SMN1 gene three targeting
regions of the base pair deletion, one targeting the region immediately downstream
of the base pair deletion and one targeting the normal sequence upstream of the
deletion [Wu, et al., 2013]. The specificity of each of these sgRNAs can be tested
through transfecting plasmids with the Cas9 and each of the different sgRNAs and
place into wild type embryonic stem cells. PCR can be carried out for each sgRNA
and their products, that we can assume to be the target region, can be amplified from
the subsequent embryonic stem
Why Should Teachers Get Paid More
Why Teachers Should Be Paid More Many people wonder if teachers should or
should not get paid more than they do. A lot of people believe that teachers should
get paid more, but there are some that do not. Parents that want their kids to have a
good education want teachers to get paid more. For example, P.V Derkachev said,
... teacher pay influences the quality of education. (Derkachev 574). Teachers that
get payed more would be more likely to perform better at their job and not mind the
extra time that they have to do stuff outside of work to get everything done. Matt
Barnum said, Higher salaries even small bonuses can and do keep some teachers
in the classroom, and likely improve outcomes for their students. (Barnum). The
student is going to get taught better if teachers get paid more because the teacher
will want to teach at the best of her ability which will help the student. Teachers
should be paid more because They work outside of the classroom (Snyder). They
have to work on lesson plans, grade their assignment, tests, and quizzes (Snyder).
In 5 Reasons Why Teachers Need To Get Paid More, it says, If you take into
account the average teacher s salary and the hours they spend at work, they could
probably make more money being an hourly wage employee. (Snyder). They
should be getting paid more because they do not get paid enough with how much
they do outside of work to be able to do what they do in the classroom. Teachers
work very hard for what they do and to get everything done. Another reason why
teachers should be paid more is that We will have no teachers (Snyder). Kasey
Snyder said, No one wants to have a job that underpays and undervalues them. A
lot of people choice another path of career when they go to college instead of
being a teacher because teachers do not get paid enough. In Teachers Need a
Raise, it says that young teachers are ... more likely to cite low pay as one of the
main drawbacks of teaching than older teachers and are also more likely to leave
the profession because of low starting salaries. (Partelow). People that want to be a
teacher end up not doing it for long in college and change their major or graduate
and not teach for long and go to school for

The Effects of Two or More Environmental Stressors on Aggressive Behaviour
An environmental stressor is a situation, which causes a negative emotional
experience, accompanied by predictable physiological, biochemical and behavioural
changes that are designed to help us adapt to the stressor. The three main
environmental stressors are heat, noise and crowding, all of which may result in
heightened physiological and psychological behaviour.
A large number of studies have investigated the possibility of a connection between
temperature and aggressive behaviour. Carlsmith and Anderson (1979) found that
hotter weather gives a higher chance of a riot when they looked at disturbances in 79
US cities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It could also be a biological explanation. For example, the production of testosterone
increases when you get hot (Anderson and Anderson, 1998). The relationship between
temperature and aggression is not as simple as either the linear model or the
curvilinear model, as other variables may affect the relationship.
Crowding, another environmental stressor, is the unpleasant sensation that too
many people share the same space. It is personal in how much it affects us, as it
depends on how comfortable we feel in the close presence of others, and also how
peoples perception of crowding leads to them reacting to certain levels of density.
Calhan (1962) conducted an animal experiment into crowding leading to
aggression. He placed an expanding rat population into a small area, and observed
that they soon began sexually assaulting and killing each other, which confirms a
link between crowding and aggression. Research into crowding in Australian clubs
done by Macintyre and Hamel (1997) showed that the level of crowding in each
nightclub was related to the number of observed aggressive incidents. This is a
field experiment, meaning it has ecological validity and is not artificial and so can
be applied to real life. However, they did not get participant consent for observations,
which raise ethical issues. It seems clear that crowding is related to
How Does Nancy Reagan Impact On Society
Nancy Reagan made an impact on our society, so large that the impact is still
lasting today. She is a very special person because of her determination not to give
up however hard life may get. She is an example of a hard worker and a very
caring person. Nancy was born July 6, 1921. Born as Anne Frances Nancy
Robbins Davis Reagan, at Sloane Hospital Flushing Queens, New York. Nancy
was born to Kenneth Seymour Robbins and Edith P. Luckett. Her parents got
divorced shortly after marriage. Her mom remarried Loyal Davis, and her dad
remarried Patricia Brinckerhoff. Nancy considers Loyal Davis as her true father.

One popular negative view on Nancy is that she spent too much money on clothes.
When Nancy moved to the White House, she brought new china set. Even though
she brought it with private donations, many criticized her for doing this. Another
impact Nancy made is Foster Grandparents . In this, she introduces older people
with kids with disabilities. She said It s one of the best programs I ve ever seen
because it benefits both sides: children, who need love and grandparents, and
elderly people, who need to feel wanted. Nancy displayed many IB profiles in her
lifetime, one being caring. She was very caring to most of the people she met. Nancy
showed how caring she was when she cared for the welfare of wounded soldiers from
the Vietnam War while she was First Lady of California. She was also very caring
to her husband because she acted like Ronald Reagan s bodyguard. She did this
because she was very worried after his assassination attempt. His assassination attempt
happened on March 30,1981at Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington D.C. Ronald
Reagan was shot by John Hinckley Jr. John Hinckley was not found guilty because he
was mentally disturbed. Nancy Reagan is still living. She is eighty nine years old
today. Ronald Reagan died of Alzheimer s. Before he died, they created an
Alzheimer s research organization, and they donated a lot to it. Ronald Reagan was
diagnosed around the time he stopped being president Nancy
The Car Ride At Ohio State University
The car ride was quiet for the first time in 18 years, it was a bittersweet taste but
more on the bitter side. All I could hear was my car slowly gliding, rolling over the
bumps of the highway. I kept thinking to myself that I must not to cry, but I could
not stop the flow of sadness How could I not cry after dropping my youngest
daughter, Julie, off at Ohio State. The number of applicants at The Ohio State
University in 1989 was 15,748 (Ohio State enrollment Services). I would now be
referred to as an empty nester. I kept thinking about the lonely quiet nights that I
would have for the next two months until both of my children would come home

Johnny came rumbling down the stairs after his shower where I addressed him
about his room. After addressing him, Johnny decided to show his most dominant
trait by expressing himself under a premise of disrespect. Johnny will you please

leave for another 15 minutes you have time Why don t you clean you are not doing
anything Nothing made me more mad then when my kids mouthed off after all
that I had done for them. After Johnny mouthed off I was so infuriated I felt as if
there was steam about to come out of my ears. Johnny noticed this anger building
up inside me and busted out the front door. One would have thought a rabid dog
was chasing him, but I wasn t rabid. He ran and got on the bus before I could get to
him. On average a young adolescent runs a mile in 7 minutes(Let s Run). I looked
down and noticed that I still had on my nightgown. This is perfect, I said to
myself, deciding that I would show up to school in my nightgown and embarrass
Johnny like never before. I pulled up to the school, just as the bus was rolling up,
and I started to get out of the car when I saw a broom in the back seat. I decided I
would use that as a fear factor prop to convey my message. I saw Johnny sitting in
the back of the bus when he glanced out of the window and saw me standing there.
He came over to me after getting off the bus. Mom, what are you doing here? he
A Brief Note On Nickel And Dimed
Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich reveals the shocking truth of trying to live
on minimum wage in the United States. Barbara Ehrenreich, a journalist, decides
to experiment living on a low income job after discovering the welfare reform
legislation in 1996. She tries to survive on minimum wage for a month in three US
cities; Key West, Portland, and Minneapolis. In Key West Florida, she learned
about the challenges of working in a lower class job and trying to get by. The only
way to afford basic necessities is by having two jobs or to have someone help pay,
such as a working husband. In Portland, Barbara worked as a housecleaner and
faced the harsh reality of not many people having appreciation or sympathy for
lower class workers. To illustrate, as she kneeled on her hands scrubbing she felt
ashamed when the house owner said, Can you do the same thing in the entryway
while you re at it ? Society... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One key takeaway I learned is that when prices go up on items such as housing,
food, clothes, the poor have a difficult time since they become forced into paying
more. Now I believe that unemployment is not the main cause of poverty, it s
simply that humans can t live off a low income job, especially when items are
becoming pricey. Though, the biggest life lesson I learned is that we all tend to
stereotype humans living in poverty as lazy and careless. Though, I realized that
people in poverty may have a job and be extremely hard working. In our society we
believe, if you have a job, you have a home, food on the table, and clothes on your
back. Though, there are many people who work, but can barely afford a decent
meal. Nickel and Dimed exposed me to what the American society has turned
into,......... though, I believe it helped me grow as a person. Now every time I see a
worker I see them with respect and gratitude.
Odds Against Tomorrow Character Analysis
As each day passes, the events that we encounter enters through each and everyone
of our minds and becomes an assimilation of experiences. Over a long period of
time one s past experiences come to affect how they see newer ones. As each and
every experience fills our minds, it creates an expectation or order in which our
judgment causes us to assume or create reason for the future to become a certain
way. This process can be viewed as perspective, perspective influences your actions,
emotions, it can be a complete rulebook for the way a person becomes and acts. In
the book OddsAgainst Tomorrow, by Nathaniel Rich as we explore the world
through the eyes of one character, Mitchelle, we began to notice a possibly very
eccentric perspective on life and chance. Throughout the book we notice other
characters and their views on the same events. This then relays back to previous
experiences or life events that these characters have undergone. Overall through the
reading we can notice a theme of multiple or different perspectives, that fact of which
perspectives are right or where these perspectives come from is determined by the
reader. One can simply conclude that because of the past experiences or events that an
individual has encountered throughout their life this then becomes a major deciding
factor in their new perceptive. This perspective can change, as the events that we
experiencecome to change as well. For example an overflow of optimism may be
encountered after one
Spontaneous Human Combustion Essay
Spontaneous Human Combustion The world is full of the unexplained and
mysterious, but is spontaneous human combustion truly spontaneous caused by the
paranormal, or just simply human combustion? Most people think of spontaneous
human combustion, or SHC, as ...the reduction of an otherwise normal, healthy
human body to a pile of fine black ash, the consistency of which is finer than that of a
cremated corpse (Spontaneous). This is simply not true. First of all, it is not
complete consumption because in most cases extremities and internal organs remain
because the high temperature outside the body does not penetrate internally.
Secondly, the fact that the ash is so fine is often used by SHC proponents as to why
the fire must by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To find a logical explanation scientists looked for a common thread in the cases.
This common thread seemed to be alcohol. During this Victorian era, an evil of the
Christian society was drink. SHC ...was viewed as a sort of a moral punishment
for drunkenness (Cohen 195). Since the cause of SHC was believed to be
drinking, many had oral remedies for SHC. In Germany the common people had
great faith in liquid manure as a preventive for spontaneous combustion...
(Bondeson 7). If you lived in Scandinavia at that time you may have had heard of
an even more unlikely preventive. Swedish and Norwegian folklore prescribed
human urine, preferably freshly voided by a woman, to be thrown into the mouth
of a flowing drunkard... (Bondeson 7). During this Victorian era SHC became
popular in literature. Mark Twain was one writer who popularized SHC in his
book, Life on the Mississippi, during early America. Jimmy Finn was not burned in
a calaboose, but died a natural death in a vat of a combination of delirium tremens
and spontaneous combustion. (quoted in Cohen 192). Charles Dickens also wrote
about SHC in his book, Bleak House, and he attributed it to alcohol. Dickens
described the death of the drunken man, Krook, in the following manner: Here is a
small burnt patch of flooring; here is the tender from a little bundle of burnt paper,
but not so light as usual, seeming to be steeped in
Comparison Of First Baptist And Frazer Methodist Church
The two churches I attended were First Baptist and Frazer Methodist Church. The
experiences I had were not too far from each other meaning they weren t really all
that different. The First Church I went to was Frazer. When I first got there I was
a little confused because I didn t really know anybody at first. But as I got in to the
church and started to meet more people I felt very welcomed like I was meant to go
the church. When the service started the first thing that happened was the Youth
Minister came and spoke to us. He was telling us about the mission trips they are
currently doing and also what they had been learning about in the weekly service for
the past few months they had been talking about being spiritually fit for God. After
he talked to us about that he sent us all off and we went to Sunday School. At Sunday
school there... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the main service we started with a prayer. And then we sang a few songs and
listened to the sermon. The sermon was about how no matter how broken we are
God will accept us. After that we ended the sermon concluded with a few songs
and went home. Overall I really enjoyed the experience at Frazer it was very nice
and they had some really good points. But one thing that I didn t really like was the
fact that it wasn t really personal like I like the Church service to be. The next service
I attended was First Baptists Sunday service when I first got there I knew almost
every single person the people that were there were mostly Trinity people and
some the people were from other schools but I still knew most of them. The first
thing that happened was they had a free breakfast for anyone who wanted it. The
first thing we did was talk about the wednesday service and what they did at the
Wednesday evidently that Wednesday they talked about being fit for God. So after
we sang a few songs we went to the Sunday School. The person who hosted the
Sunday school class was

Skepticism And Critical Thinking Analysis
Look to your left and then look to your right, take in everything around you. All
one sees is a materialistic world in a 3D environment. Philosophers always
questioned the system and the world we live in. Then there is a space in our
awareness of reality and the environment around us, between our knowledge and
the external world. There s a veil of perception lies between us and the physical
world we interact with. For example, someone that watches the stars assumes that
they are millions and millions of light years away from him. Yet, what he sees are
the stars inside himself. The external world is a planet consisting of a huge number
of objects and events that are experienced or whose existenceis accepted by the mind,
but which exist independently... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s the process of finding a supported conclusion, not the justification of a
preconceived conclusion. Before all the reflections that have lifted skeptical doubts
causing our epistemic relation to the external world, Skepticism can be different in
attitudes, depth, and scope. A skeptic s attitude may be one of doubt, of denial, of
suspension, or one of withholding. Take it this way: 1. Things actually are P. (P is
just a complete description of the way things seemed to you to be when you
looked around. It is certainly obvious to you that things seem to you to be P. You
might say that you have a special sort of access to how things seem to you. Now,
which of the following scenarios is better supported by, that is, is more justified
by, its seeming to you to be P?:) 2. You re being deceived by a very powerful evil
demon right now. This demon has the ability to manipulate your sensory
impressions such that it will seem to you that things. are some way when they are
not that way at all. Accordingly, things are actually nothing like P (2). Maybe one
of the most known skeptical scenarios is RenГ© Descartes (1596 1650) in his
Meditations on First Philosophy (1641). In the book, Descartes considers that he
may be dreaming or maybe that he may be being controlled by the evil demon from
scenario two. What about Hollywood, the city of movies, is using skeptical plots in
their movies for example: Total Recall, The Matrix, and
Comedia Dell Arte
Comedia dell Arte Part one Type of Comedy Comedia Dell Arte is an over
exaggerated, comedic satire that runs without a script. Although characters are
free to say as they want, this is only so due to the formal structure in place,
designated costumes, specific masks and particular physicality s are all based
around the set stock characters(refer to next paragraph). The term satire refers to
mockery though sarcasm usually used to display and make fun of pathetic human
traits (of the masters or the most part). This is a very fun loving, witty and specific
sense off humour of which some will take offence and was a risky thing to do
especially on the street in France in the 1500 s when the performing art was
created. Innuendos and mischievous comments were often used as well as the
satiric humour. Stock Characters Stock Characters are the fictional life forms that
are harnessed by all Comedia Dell Arte actors to display and mock stereotype

Although they exist, there is a great imbalance between the number of female and
male characters and no high status females in the position of a master. However
this is expected as by being born a female in the 1500 s you were always
considered the weaker sex that needed a male to take care of them to survive. If
you displayed signs of independence by not having or wanting a husband you were
considered a witch. Attending school was simply a dream and jobs weren t to be
aspired towards anything higher than a maid. However unbalanced it may be in
today s society, to be given this opportunity was the start of a feat for women in the
Difference Between Classical And Classical Economic
Thought
The history of macroeconomic thought and policy was developed through different
phases mainly marked by the depressions, recessions and expansion of the 1930s,
1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. Various macroeconomic theories were
developed during these periods. Among them, Keynesian and classical economics
addressed economic problems such as unemployment issue with similarities but also
differences.
In this essay, I will identify similarities and differences in Keynesian and classical
economic thought. Then, describe how Keynesian and classical economists address
the issue of unemployment. And finally, I will describe new developments since the
1980s. To identify similarities in Keynesian and classical economic thought let us first
examine their definitions: Classical economics is the body of macroeconomic
thought associated primarily with 19th century British economist David Ricardo that
focused on the long run and on the forces that determine and produce growth in an
economy s potential output.
Keynesian Economics is the body of macroeconomic thought that asserts that changes
in aggregate demand can create gaps between the actual and potential levels of
output, and that such gaps can be prolonged. It stresses the use of fiscal and
monetary policy to close such gaps.
We notice from those definitions that both thoughts focus on how an economy
reaches its potential output through various factors.
Unlike similarities, there are more differences in Keynesian and
Kingship, Aristocracy, And Oligarchy Of Constitutional...
In Politics, Aristotle explicitly says that the best regime is kingship. He reasons,
[that] the term constitution signifies the same thing as civic body [and] that the
civic body in every city is the sovereign; and the sovereign must necessarily be either
One, or Few, or Many. On this basis we may say that when the One, or Few, or Many
rule with a view to the common interest, the constitution under which they do so
much necessarily be the right constitution (1279^a 25, 188). He goes on to say that
according to customary usage the governmenttype that focuses on the common
interest is kingship.
In the context of the passage, he refers to three types as the right types of structures
(kingship, aristocracy, and constitutional government) and includes their perversions
in government form, which are Tyranny, [the perversion of] Kingship; Oligarchy of
Aristocracy, and Democracy of Constitutional Government (1279^a4, 189). Due to
him saying that tyranny is the worst of the worst, and kingship would have to be the
best of the right. It therefore must be good and self sufficient. ... Show more content

Nonetheless the role of the father (king) is necessary because he is wise, good, and
just. He therefore can guide the son to make the right decisions and reach happiness
because he himself lives a good, just, and wise life. The city can then live in that way.
Aristotle himself speaks of how in order for a city to strive, the leaders must strive as
well as they need to have the intentional vision for the common interest accompanied
by virtue, justice, and good. I think that this can be best manifested through the
analogy of a wise and noble father raising his son. This type of government has
historically been seen through the lens of Aristotle when it comes to justifying the
purpose for a
Gender Is The Reality Of Gender
We act as if that being of a man or that being of a woman is actually an internal
reality or something that is simply true about us, a fact about us, but actually it s a
phenomenon that is being produced all the time and reproduced all the time, so to
say gender is performative is to say that nobody really is a genderfrom the start.
(Judith Butler). Differences and opinions about genders are pointed out through most
of our precious time on this planet Earth and most of us are so used to this kind of
interaction with humans that it just becomes completely normal to us to hear about
all the time. When thinking about a man we imagine that gender showing a sign of
dominance, strength, and emotionless. When thinking about a woman we imagine
that gender showing a sign of nurturing, less dominant, and emotional. Because of
these stereotypical differences, this unfortunately leads to an inequality of some sort
that leads to segregation of tasks and disrespect between the two genders. The
argument here is that we re all the same but many people out there are too blind to
see it and they would much rather believe the myth rather than the truth. If this is the
case, what myths can be busted and show that both genders are really identical?
There is a ton of individual diversity within societies and sexes in regards to how sex
and gender play out in behavior and personality. But unfortunately, this concept is
confused with genders and sexes being the same thing when it really
Daphne And Diameter
Daphne was an old woman with soft brown hair. She wasn t too small or too tall.
Daphne was really graceful when she worked and was as sweet as could be. She
always was smiling and wore colorful clothes. Daphne had no husband, because she
liked doing her own thing. Everyday Daphne would walk to a field full of dead
flowers and plants. She loved flowers and plants, so she would water them while
humming. Daphne would pull all of the weeds out of the ground to protect the
plants. After she took care of them she would watch them and sing songs. At the end
of the day, Daphne would walk back home and return in the morning. Daphne was
so eager to save the field, and would do anything to get them growing beautiful
again. One day she got very ill and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All though, it will either save or kill you. Even though, she thought it would save
her , she didn t know it for a fact since she is mortal. Daphne said, I will take the risk
and drink the medicine. Diameter then gave Daphne the nectar from the gods.
Diameter left the house with delight and a smile on her face because Daphne didn
t die from the medicine. The next day, Daphne felt much better. She went to the
field and did her normal routine. Up at Mt. Olympus, Diameter felt good, but not
good enough. Diameter always watched Daphne and knows she always hums,
sings, wants to be fast, and be little, so she made a big decision. Diameter made the
decision of, when Daphne dies she turns into a unique bird called a humming bird.
Humming birds are fast, little, and drink nectar kind of like what Daphne wants to
do or what she already did. Diameter told all the gods and they thought it was a
good idea. Diameter had no clue about the plan, she just wanted to save the field,
which she did. Once Daphne died, Diameter went to her and told her why she got
rewarded. Daphne was so thankful, because now she gets to watch over the field
longer. Once Daphne got turned into a hummingbird, she watched over the field
everyday and sipped from the flowers. She also flew to Mt. Olympus everyday with
Pegasus. Pegasus and Daphne ended up being great

I have long been fighting for a change in the law when it comes to family policy, so
that children have the right to know and have a relationship with both parents
(elphicke.com). On February 25, 2013 Mr. Elphicke introduced a bill to Parliament
which would help support Charlie s goal to put the children first. Mr. Elphicke told
Parliament that around 3 million kids in the United Kingdom are living with
separated parents and around 1 million children do not have contact with either of
their parents. The push for this bill by Charlie Elphicke was finally recognized by
Parliament on March 13, 2014 when the Children and Families Act was passed by
both Houses. Another issue that Charlie Elphicke is trying to get ahold of is the
tax avoidance of big multi national businesses. I spoke up for the need to reform
our tax law fundamentally. To make sure that tax on profits from business carried

the British businesses, but the companies who are world wide and do not pay the

the Finance Bill was debated in Parliament and this is the bill that sets the taxes and

measures. The first principle is that business tax rates should be low, simple and
attractive. Britain should be open for business, but open for business on a level
playing field for national and international companies (www.elphicke.com). After
years of continuing to debate and pushing forward the idea, under the Labour party
income tax receipts went up, while the corporation tax stayed the same. To this day,
Charlie Elphicke is continuing to call out many corporations for the continuation of
tax avoidance he
How Poetry of the First World War Changed Essay
How Poetry of the First World War Changed
The First World War broke out on the 4th of august 1914. It was the first major war
near bye Europe for hundreds of years. It sparked fantasies of becoming a war hero
in young boys and men s minds and because the government had assured everyone
that the war would be over by Christmas, those young boys and men decided to join
up in an attempt not to miss the excitement of war. Little did they know that they
were being led to an untimely death at the hands of Germany!
Poets were also just as patriotic as the men going to fight. Because of this patriotism
the poets wrote about how glamorous the war was and how good it felt to die for
ones country. This was all in an attempt along with... Show more content on

But she reflected the mood of the times. Another thing that affected pope s poetry
was that she was a journalist not a soldier like some of the other war poets such as
{Siegfried Sassoon}.
Some may say that she played her own part of the killing in the war, after all she
got thousands of young gullible and innocent men to walk to their long and
painful deaths, but if it hadn t been her it would have been someone else. Pope also
uses other words that would not usually be associated to war for example: tackle ,
game and fun are a few. These are all the things associated with rugby, there again
making it all sound like one great big game, when of course it wasn t,
She uses all of these in a cunning way to take away the reality of war. And make
you think that it is going to be easy and that it s like a game hence who s for the
game but reality shows us otherwise. This is a poem that s to the advantage of
propaganda.
I do not like this poem as none of it is true and it seems to be evil in its own way. It is
rather different to Wilfred Owens Dulcet et
Decorum Est. as that is complete fact and it was wrote by a man that actually
experienced what he wrote unlike Jessie Pope who had never been to war and was
never actually going to go anyway. Whether Pope truly believed that war is, and was
a game I don t know but I for sure

Liberty Bell Importance
On July 8, 1776, a 2080 pound bronze bell rang out in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,
marking America s independence, known as the Liberty Bell. This bell indicated
the reading of The Declaration of Independence, which declared the thirteen
original colonies separation from Great Britain. According to US History, the bell
honored the 50th year anniversary of William Penn s 1701 Charter of Privileges,
also known as Pennsylvania s original constitution. The bell contains an important
message with the quote By Order of the Assembly of the Province of Pennsylvania
for the State House in Philada. The message inscribed into the bell proclaims liberty
for all of America. The bell no longer rings due to the prominent ВЅ inch wide and

The bell is a widely recognized symbol of the abolishment of slavery and helped
spread the message and morals the abolitionists stood for. Philadelphia became the
main port for the import of slaves in 1682. The majority of slaves lived near the
city of Pennsylvania. The first ever recorded protest against slavery happened in
1688. William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania held 12 slaves as workers on his
estate in Pennsbury. Several slavery exhibits now surround the liberty bell. The
importance of the Liberty Bell arose from the abolitionists attempt to put an end to
slavery across

Panopticon Watchtower
Foucault himself uses the example of the watchtower in prisons when he describes
what the panopticon is. From the tower, you can see all of the prison cells, but the
prisoners cannot see the guards, and hence cannot see if they are being watched at
any given time. They do know that there is a possibility, and therefore, they self
monitor and restrict their behaviors accordingly. This way, the power becomes as
much of an internal factor in the prisoners as it is an external factor from the guards.
One could argue that the Panopticon is very relevant and present in today s society,
for example in the fact that the Internet is being monitored, and your conversations
online are being logged. You are never sure if anyone will see what you re writing,
Comparing Egypt And The French Revolution
In Tunisia, A man purposely set himself on fire to express his rights. Little did the
government know this was just the foreshadowing of major uprising in Egypt. In the
Middle East, the dissatisfied youth started a revolutionary wave of demonstrations
and protests that began December 18, 2010. Known as the Arab Spring , the young
adults protested all through the Arab world because of their anger with
unemployment, inflation, and the regulations of the government. The young adults,
who received message of the protest via social media, were hungry for political
change, more voice, and economic stimulus. However, this is not the first time we
have seen citizens revolt like this. In 1972, society revolted due to raised taxes, lack
of freedom, and poverty, ultimately causing the French revolution. In comparing
Egyptand the French revolution, although the causes are the same through changes in
government, dire financial situation, and significant events, the results demonstrate
differences. France s society witnessed shifts in power due to the revolting of
society, which was mirrored by the frustration of people in Egypt. In 1774, Louis
succeeded his father and was the new ruler of France, along with is Austrian wife,
Marie Antoinette. After years of long term debt, unfairness of society, raising taxes,
and no change, the citizens revolted. This connects to the Big Idea cause and effect
because due to lack of equality, the citizens expressed their rights by protesting. In
3d Printing History
Its One thing to 3D print something as advanced and cutting edge as a Jet engine
motor, but it is another to fuel it up, take it to the runway and push the start button.
This is the stride GE aviation achieved when it fired up the motor of a simple Jet
engine, made completely of in house designed and 3D printed parts, at a test stand
normally reserved for commercial jet engines. GE Aviation is a world leading
provider of jet and turboprop engines, components and integrated systems for
commercial, military, business and general aviation aircraft propulsion
applications. GE Aviation has a global service network to support these offerings.
3D printing or additive manufacturing is a process of making three dimensional
solid objects from a digital design. The creation of a 3D printed object is achieved
using additive processes. In an additive process the desired object is created by
laying down successive layers of material (usually molten alloy or plastics) until the
entire object is formed. Each of these layers can be seen as a thinly sliced horizontal
cross section of the eventual object.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The best part is that the nozzles, like those used in the best selling Leap engine
manufactured by GE Aviation, were traditionally machined from 20 separate parts.
Now with 3D printing, each nozzle is one solid part, assembled by layering
powdered metal melted and fused together with lasers. With 19 fuel nozzles per
engine, it s a substantial difference that helps to streamline the manufacturing and
assembly process. It also cuts down on design

Nowadays, community gardens are very popular in people. People like working in

garden, peoples do many kinds of stuff like digging for stray potatoes, growing and
pulling up funnily shaped carrots, or searching for elusive string beans. The taste of
a meal made of fresh, sun ripened produce is delicious. Many people want to grow
food and also wants to have a connection to the food supply chain in his community

After forming the committee, the committee members will have to see if there are
a need and desire or a community garden. Then the committee will have to decide
what type of garden it should be. Like whether it s going to be a vegetable garden
or flowers of a combination garden. Then they will have to select a work list. Every
work will be written in the work list and will be divided between the committee
members. You will need teams to do some tasks like Funding and Resource
Development, Youth Activities, Construction and many more. Then you will have to
approach a sponsor who is very important to build the garden. Without money, none
of the people can accomplish their work. After that, you will have to choose a land
where the garden will be made. You can also make a name for your garden.

exist in the community which can help in aiding the garden s creation. For possible
sites, you can also take advise from local municipal planners and also for local
sources of information and assistance. You can also take advise or can add a member
to the committee who have the experience in gardening. There many Community

A Literary Convention Expended by Junot Diaz Essay
Analyzing a symbol as a literary convention used by author, Junot DГaz makes a way
to identify the purpose of the device. In his novel, The Brief Wondrous Life of
Oscar Wao (2007), the mechanism is used to develop an explicit character and
point of view. The symbol is a sensory image that holds rich implication that is
either a narrow or broad. Occasionally the reader is cast off by the author with an
unknown meaning of the symbol hence is forced to create his own interpretation.
The latter principle is intentionally carried out by the author as a literary hook to
draw the attention of his audience to keep reading. Moreover, the author may also use
in combination with the hook the method of utilizing pathos as a way of arousing the

I muse how the symbol of the faceless man is used in this scene in lieu of fear of
the unknown. They had guns! He stared into the night, hoping that maybe there
would be some U.S. Marines out for a stroll, but there was only a lone man sitting
in his rocking chair out in front of his ruined house and for a moment Oscar could
have sworn the dude has no face, but then the killers got back into the car and
drove (298). Flawlessly the narrative is filled with mysterious symbols of faceless
men that attach to the fuku aka zafa that is generally a curse or doom. Moreover,
the faceless men are used as a gesture, to give a signal to the reader, that something
dangerous is about to occur. Transparently Junot Diaz discusses via interviews why
he used the symbol of faceless men and its significance. In one interview Misty
Reno of The Tack Newspaper reported that students posed a question for Diaz as,
Who are the faceless men? Diaz replied by stating that, Do I have any idea
who...they are? No...[but] every time I took them out of the book the novel fell
apart, but I wasn t sure what they were. The reader himself has to find what these
creatures [...the faceless men] are because when they make that decision, the book
will take on a very different

Informal Sector Essay
Since the informal sector is believed to make a great contribution to an economy,
there are a number of research papers which have been done in this sector. Some
research has been done in relation to small business participation in the informal
sector. A prime example is from Trinidad and Tobago, considered as an emerging
economy, whereby people have the perception of avoiding tax while performing their
business and is the reason why people engage in the informal sector. The focus is on
socioeconomic, demographic, and attitudinal characteristics that influence people to
run their small business (Sookran Watson, 2008).
Moreover, Sookram Watson (2008) in their research on Small business participation
in the informal sector of an emerging economy explain that the word informal sector
refers to the production of goods and services for market orientation, which is not
captured in the estimation of a country s GDP whether these activities are legal or
illegal. The contribution of the informal sector to the national economy in the third
world economies ranges from 20 to 70 %. It has been commonly thought that the
informal sector is the sector linked with the poor and marginalized. However, in
reality this sector attracts many people regardless of their social status and
educational background. Thus, clearly policy makers need to look at this sector as it
offers great economic advantages to both poor people and the country.

Analysis Of Cornelia De Lange s Syndrome
Abstract
Cornelia de Lange is a syndrome defined as a genetic birth defect and effects 1 in
every 10,000 births. A genetic mutation of gene has been identified as the cause
although research and testing continue. There is no cure and treatment is based on
each individual s severity of the syndrome. The classic signs are long eyelashes,
eyebrows that meet in the middle, low ear placement, and missing fingers or arms. A
large amount of those diagnosed with Cornelia de Lange Syndrome also have slowed
physical and cognitive development, with approximately 60% exhibiting self
injurious behavior. CORNELIA DE LANGE

The exam completes and the obstetrician enters the room with a small smile along
with concern showing in her eyes. Long eyelashes that are visible in an ultrasound
have been linked to a genetic condition known as, Cornelia de Lange. While there
are many more classic characteristics, that will be discussed later in this paper, this

CORNELIA DE LANGE Diagnosis for Cornelia de Lange syndrome (CdLs) consists
of genetic testing, as well as findings made from physical and developmental
observations. As with most syndromes, CdLs has a range from mild to severe. There
are classic signs like small size, long eyelashes, eyebrows that meet in the middle,
and missing fingers or arms. Other children are so mildly affected, the condition
goes unnoticed and undiagnosed. Many individuals diagnosed with CdLs have a
majority of physical, medical, and developmental disabilities. Once the diagnosis is

From 1837 to 1901, under the reign of Queen Victoria, Great Britain, with the
supremacy of its Royal Navy, had largely fulfilled its ambition of global imperial
expansion in Asia and Africa particularly. As the British Empiresoon became the
largest empire in history, this era was later known as the Victorian Era(John 129).
To further unite nations and demonstrate an imperial industrial and economic
leadership of the world, Queen Victoria s husband, Prince Albert organized the first
world s fair, namely, The Great Exhibitionof the Works of Industry of All Nations ,
at the Crystal Palace in Hyde Park, London, from May 1 to October 15 in 1851
(Celik 1). Not only did the diversity of the foreign goods displayed at the exhibition
astonish the publics, but also the Crystal Palace, designed by Joseph Paxton and
Owen Jones, as the striking structure that housed these articles attracted millions of
visitors around the world during 1851 (Fig. 1). Later after the exhibition, the foreign
articles were transferred to the South Kensington Museum (Crinson 65) as part of the
Imperial archive (Barringer 11), to promote industrial and commercial education
among domestic artisans and skilled labourers in the next fifty years, with a hope that

Actors In Remember The Titans
The three actors that I have decided to identify from the movies, Remember the
Titans are: Denzel Washington, Will Patton and Wood Harris. Their classification
is that Denzel Washington is categorized as a personality actor. Will Patton is a
categorized as an impersonator actor and Wood Harris is also categorized as a
personality actor as well. I fell that Denzel Washington is considered to be a
personality actor because the role or character that he plays (Coach Herman Boone) is
a man who demands perfection from his players on and off of the football field.
Washington embodies the role of the character making it hard to tell the difference
between the actor and his character or role being play (Goodykoontz Jacob, 2014).

Essay on Prion Diseases
Prion Diseases
Abstract
Transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) are neurodegenerative diseases
that are thought to be caused by the misfolding of prion proteins. Prions are able to
replicate in the absence of nucleic acids. TSEs include: scrapie, bovine spongiform
encephalopathy, Creutzfeldt Jakob disease, kuru, Gerstmann Straussler Scheinker
disease, and Fatal Familial Insomnia. They can affect many different animals,
including humans. Currently, there are no ways to diagnose, treat, or cure TSEs, as
much more research is needed before these diseases are completely understood.

2. The Prion Protein and Its Function
The prion protein (PrP) is unusual in that it has two stable isoforms. The cellular
or normal form of the prion protein is termed PrPC, while the disease form is
termed PrPSC. Sharing the same sequence of amino acids, or primary structure,
PrPC and PrPSC differ in their secondary, tertiary, and quaternary structures. The
normal prion protein has N and C terminals, three alpha helices, and two beta
sheets (Soto, 2006, 40). Its function is still not completely understood. However,
scientists have found evidence that point to various possibilities. 1) Because most
PrPC are located in lipid rafts, membrane structures involved in signaling, it is
suggested that PrPC may also be a mediator in neuroprotective signaling pathways.
2) Interaction between PrPC and Bcl 2, a ligand involved in protecting neurons
from apoptosis, suggests the possibility that PrPC may be an antiapoptotic protein.
3) PrPC has also been linked to copper metabolism in the brain. In one particular
study, PrP knockout mice, or mice that were genetically altered to not express PrP,
were found to have lower levels of copper in their brains and higher levels in their
serum (Soto, 2006, 42). However, in other studies with PrP knockout mice, most of
the animals did not display any obvious disorders, and those that did were found to
have been affected by the increase in concentration of another protein known as
doppel.
Polyperspectivity In William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying
4. William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying is brilliant in it s use of disrupted narrative,
but also in it s pioneering use of polyperspectivity. Indeed, the polyperspectivity
was the crux of the novella. First, it engendered the same confusion that the family
felt with the loss of Addie. For many readers, this would make the novella a
difficult read, as people tend to have problems with being taken up into a story, as
faulkner intended. Second, it allows one to experience the return to normalcy (or the
opposite, seen in the foil of Darl) that each character experiences, from their own
point of view. This gives us a much more in depth view of each character s particular
neurotic tendencies. Finally, the masterful use of polyperspectivity allows... Show

Flannery O Connor is one of America s best Catholic writers, by a wide margin. In,
The Life You Save May Be Your Own , she goes to great lengths to portray catholic
concepts, especially the fall of man to sin. At the beginning of the story, we can
see Tom Shiftlet as a man who is very concerned with his own moral intelligence ,
showing that he is open to the love of God. However, right away, hints har given to
show that he could also reject God. When he is first described, he wears black,
traditionally representing the christian adversary, as well as a disconnection from
God more generally. In addition to this, he forms his body into a cross in front of
the sun, however it is lopsided and incomplete due to his missing arm. Immediately
(though he seems to care little for money) it is obvious that he lusts after Lucynell
Crater s automobile. Mrs. Crater offers to give him a place to stay and feed him, in
exchange for work around the farm. However, lest one think that Mrs. Crater is
saintly, she is mostly of the hope that Shiftlet will marry her deaf daughter. This
forms one of the main interplays of the story, in that both characters have something
the other wants, and both know it. This produces quite witty and interesting
dialogue throughout. Lucynell the younger, it should be pointed out, is portrayed to
be the perfect woman for the man. Indeed, she seems to represent more than simple
innocence, but a gift from God. In the end, Mrs. Crater trades the truck for her
daughter s hand in marriage, in her mind, winning her salvation. Shiftlet takes the
car and Lucynell the younger for a honeymoon. They stop to get food, and Lucynell
manages to fall asleep on the table, after which Shiftlet leaves her. Thus he has
sealed his fate through rejecting the goodwill of God in the name of freedom in true
luciferian fashion. The car has previously been likened to a casket and a coffin,
through Mrs. Crater and Mr. Shiftlet conversations. It has now become his casket,
The Relationship Of Jesus And Christian Mentoring In
The...
Mentor is characterized as a wise and trusted advocate or instructor. Although
tutoring/mentoring is not in the Bible, it gives us various cases of coaching. Moses
was a great example of a mentoring relationship. The mentoring relationship among
Eli and Samuel allowed Samuel to take on tasks and obligations that were his after
Eli s demise. Jesusmentor His disciples, while Barnabas and Paul exceeded
expectations in mentoring. Jesus made His style of mentoring clear. He led so we
may follow. He stated if anybody will come after him, let them take up his cross and
follow him. Since He is our leader and we are to follow Him, Christian mentoring is a
procedure subordinate upon accommodation to Christ. Neither the mentor or mentee
controls the relationship. The way toward mentoring is portrayed by sharing, trust,
and enrichment as the life and work of the two members is changed. The mentor fills
in as a model and a confided in audience. The guide depends on the Holy Spirit to
give understanding, change lives, and educate through demonstration.
Jesus and the apostles, as well as elders in the church do their work by mentoring.
Peter states to be the example of the flock, and Paul discloses to the elders at
Ephesus. Paul demonstrates to the elders, so that they may show others. If a
Christian leader is not mentoring to that degree, he or she is not satisfying their
calling. God has filled the group of Christ with potential mentors other than the
individuals who are elders.

category of music. Rock and Roll demonstrates how a genre can evolve from being
relatively specific to generally broad as time progresses and new music is
introduced over the years. With the superclass of Rock and Roll at the top of the
hierarchy, under it could be other subclasses like hard rock, blues rock, pop rock,
psychedelic rock, Christian rock, Latin Rock, southern rock, etc. I would not
consider my grouping of music to be mutually exclusive. For instance, I may have
one song that is on multiple playlists. The song Summer, by the artist Calvin
Harris, is on both my party playlist and my Electronic Dance Music playlist. This
particular song qualifies and meets the guidelines for both these playlists that I
made. The type of song that I was looking to add in each playlist was achieved. I
would consider my grouping to be
Theme Of Honor In The Song Of Roland Honor
Honor; honor is something that all will strive to achieve in life. Honor shapes people
and without it, the world would be very contradistinct. But the concept of honor has
changed over time. Today, honor is telling the truth, putting others before oneself,
being kind, and protecting people no matter the cost. However, in the French epic,
The Song of Roland honor is a very incommensurable thing. Honor is idealized by
characters like Roland, Ganelon, and Marsilion as bravery to the point of stupidity
and ultimately even death. Honor was not defending others, but safeguarding one s
own reputation and legacy. And a multitudinous amount of characters in this epic put
honor above all else, and it s not always smart. One particular character... Show more

Ganelon s main force of motivation was implementing revenge on Roland. Though
that is somewhat understandable seeing as Roland had previously volunteered
Ganelon to take part in an extremely dangerous task. A task which Ganelon agreed
to take on for the sake of maintaining his honor. However, before he embarked on
his journey he threatened Roland three times, which would later allow him to kill
Roland in a legal, but more importantly honorable, way. When Ganelon returned
from his journey unharmed he took it upon himself to rid the world of Roland. He
appointed Roland to the army rear guard where his recklessness would surely bring
his life to an end. But to his consternation, Roland ultimately chose to blow the horn
which signaled for help. Eventually, Ganelon s vengeful spirit got the best of him
and Charlemagne realized his plans for Roland and swiftly punished him; for
Charlemagne had been far too trusting in previous times. One such person that
Charlemagne wrongly trusted was Marsilion, King of Saragossa, and according to
The Song of Roland, a hater of God s name. Marsilion was a man who craved
honor so much that he was willing to do anything to get it, even the dishonorable.
To the Saracen King, part of honor was being feared. And he had surely
accomplished that by doing things such as chopping up foreign messengers and
sending their remains back to their people. Marsilion saw glory, honor, and power as
a package. A package that was
Los Banos Research Paper
Los Banos Unified School District
The Los Banos Unified School District enrolls about 11000 students in Kindergarten
through the 12th grade. The School District supports nine elementary schools, two
junior highs, two high schools and one alternative high school. The School District is
led by seven members of the Board or education. The School district employs five
hundred and seventy five certificated employees and four hundred and twenty five
classified employees. The schools are all currently full, with many residential
divisions currently being built in Los Banos. More schools will need to be built and
many new jobs will be created, bolstering the population and local economy. I

He was once a teacher at the high school and resigned quickly when allegations of
sexual misconduct were made. He eventually ran and won for mayor. About 20
years ago, a police officer stopped him and found drugs in his car. He was arrested
but blamed it on himself giving juveniles rides and that they left it in the car. The
case was dismissed and he return to work as mayor. Eventually he was voted out of
term and decided to run for the school board. After serving several terms on the
school board, he got into trouble with the contractor and bribery charges. He
refused to step down from his position even after the arrest, claiming innocence. He
eventually was voted out of his position. Interestingly, research suggests that power
not only leads to people to focus on their self interests because they can, but it also
liberates people to focus inward and thus come to place greater weight on their goals
and interests. (Judge, 2016, p. 218) Only for the purposes of this paper, I mention his
race. He was an African American male. He claimed that the charges and his removal
was racially based. At this time, the school district had a vacancy for superintendent.
Coincidentally, they hired the first African American male to be there superintendent.
Many people believe the school district was trying to show that they are not
The Bat And The Ball Goes Flying High Into Left Field
A crack of the bat and the ball goes flying high into left field. I don t get it. What is
the point of baseball anyway all you do is hit a ball and run. It s not like there is any
point. We just go to a game waist valuable time in our life and pay them to do
nothing. That s when I learned I was wrong. It was a rainy day when I wake up to the
voice of my dad yelling, Get out of bed I have some important news to tell you. I yell
back in frustration It is 7:00 AM. He doesn t care so he comes up stairs like always
when I don t want to get out of bed and turns on the scolding lights. So I have to get
up if I want to turn them off. So I get out of bed anyway, and put on some clothing
from my closet and go down stairs. My dad is reading the... Show more content on

That s when I knew I was ready, to start betting on the games. The First few I bet I
was betting about $5 a game. Wining more than half of them. Then I started getting
lots of money. When that happened I bet bigger and better with friends and family.
Then when I was watching baseball I saw a commercial for an online gambling thing
for baseball it was called Baseball Pros. I went online and looked up Baseball Pros it
said I had to be 18 and older so I made a fake account with my debt card I got for my
15 birthday for emergency s. So I did that and it said if I lost my first game I would
get my money back. But I wasn t planning on loosing. But there was one problem the
minimum amount of money I could do is $100. So I had used my Emergency money
on my debt card, and placed my bet 2 days later I had doubled my $100 to $200. So I
kept betting more money until I had $1000 saved up. One day I was in my room and
my dad walked in without warning wondering what I was doing. He asked What are
you doing he asked calmly. I replied to him and said, Homework! He said nothing
and left. One day I was at a game for the Royals, if they won I would get $500. As
always I was right and I had won. But I made a bad mistake and went online with a
bad person and bet them $500. After that 2 days had passed and I had won but
something was strange I kept getting messages from him saying DEAD. I was scared

The widely accepted definition of a sect is a religious group with characteristics,
which distinguishes it from either a Church or a denomination. Many groups which
fit this definition now prefer the less contentious title of new religious movements ,
because over the last fifty years, sects have become linked with brainwashing, mass
suicide, and even a murder. One of the examples is the suicide of 900 members of
the People s temple.
Sects are not a new phenomenon and they have always attracted controversy.
Throughout History, humanity has formed secret societies and secular groups to try
to make sense of the world. Most of the time, their strong beliefs have sprung from
dissatisfaction with mainstream religions, although the influence ... Show more

All members are allowed to have free dealings with the wider society, although they
maybe asked to behave in a religious manner when dealing with other people.
However members are not asked to cut off all their relations with the outer world or
to devote their whole lives to religion. They can play a full part in social life and are
not expected to withdraw from society.
Unlike churches, sects are not organised through a hierarchy of paid officials. The
only central authority which exists in the sect is a single charismatic leader, whose
personality and perceived special qualities persuade the followers to adhere to his or
her teachings.
Religious sects are rapidly growing since 1950s and church growth is declining.
People join sects for a variety of reasons. The popularity of so called accepted
religions is declining, and the interest in mysticism, new age teachings and
supernatural is certainly growing. Particularly in the west, where spirituality has
been blocked by the joys of wealth and gratification, more and more people seem to
be looking for a spiritual aspect to their lives. If mainstream religion fails to supply
this, then there are numerous sects around which appear to promise either guaranteed
salvation or at least a close knit community of like minded friends.
The industrialisation and the growth of scientific knowledge have led the world to
secularisation. It is
Troy Chapter 2 Summary
Chapter Two Summary
When news of Magellan s planned voyage reaches King Manuel, he becomes
alarmed. Fearing the possibility of a successful Spanish voyage and the loss of
Portuguese naval secrets, he sends the Portuguese ambassador Alvaro de Costa to
find Magellan. Although de Costa says the king will reconsider the request for an
expedition, this promise has a dark undertone. If Magellan and Faleiro refuse to
come back to Portugal, de Costa warns that they will lose all their honor, that their
family and friends will suffer, and that they will risk upsetting the delicate truce
between Portugal and Spain. Magellan knows that that if he accepts the offer, he will
most likely be convicted of treason and then executed, so he tactfully declines. ...

Seville is one of the greatest contemporary cities: both a commercial center, as
showcased by its thriving trade, and a religious center, home to the third largest
church in the world. As a Portuguese captain sailing for Spain, Magellan is not well
received by the people of Seville. His coat of arms is mistaken for that of the
Portuguese king, and an angry mob attacks Magellan and his crew. Although
Magellan escapes harm, this shows that Magellan is powerless against the people,
foreshadowing a future mutiny. However, Magellan cannot dwell on the incident,
as his work is far from done. He needs to purchase supplies for the journey,
including food, sailing gear, weapons, etc. The food for only the first leg of the
journey costs nearly as much as the entire fleet, so this job requires great attention
to detail. He is also faced with the task of assembling a crew, which proves to be
more difficult than usual due to his Portuguese heritage. He tries to enlist as many
Spaniards as possible, but most Spaniards do not want to sail under a Portuguese
captain. Therefore, he is forced to include many foreigners in his crew. This leads to
scrutiny amid accusations of Magellan packing his crew with Portuguese, but after
some concessions from both sides the Armada is ready to
The Problems Facing The Educational System
There are many problems facing the educational system, such as, the lack of teachers
and parents that do not participate in school. The problem that I m forcing on is the
lack of performances in the minority students about learning in school. How can we
help these kids from falling into the was side of the education systems? The idea of
Black languages being taught in the system will help improve students attitude
toward learning and going to school. Jesses comments that that Teachers need to be
specifically aware of the dialects and slangs Africa America speaks. That allows them
to teach without alienating their students or making them feel stupid, Teachers
should recognize and understand black language, (Ebonics), while teaching students
in Standard English. Others would say that using Ebonics would only harm the
students, whether than help them, because students would think that is acceptable
to use broken language. I don t see a problem with students learning Ebonics, as
long as they know when to sue Standard English. What is Black English or
Ebonics? Cerolists believe that Black language is a form of pidgin African.

Ballet Research Paper
Chasse ! DГ©veloppe ! Coupe ! Ever head this terminology and wondered what on
earth it means ? Well these our a few terms used in a type of style of dance called
ballet. Ballet originated from the Italian Renaissance in the 15th century and to this
day It s one of he most popular performances in both France and Russia. Balletis
absolutely one of my favorite types of dancestyle there is. I believe ballerinas or
danseur (referred to as a male ballet dancer) are absolutely strong, dedicated and hard
driven performers in both the dancer and theatre world. They contribute to intensive
years of training, beautiful storyline that utilizes different types of ballet, and lastly
the famous dancers that participated in the history of ballet.
As we begin, in ballet we see the dancer flow and gracefully dance all while being
on the tips of her toes. To ever accomplish this, it requires intensive years of
training. Training to become a professional dancer it typically takes about 8 10
years. Dancers begin to take classes at a young age, more or less around the age of
5. Beginning ballet is a class where technique is taught by 1 2 classes a week. As the
dancer becomes older, they begin to attend more advanced classes. Around this time

  • 2. Mouse Model And Sample Size Mouse model and Sample Size This study will be using 8 week old Smn1tm1Hung Tg(SMN2)2Hung mice obtained from the Jackson Laboratory. This specific strain of mice will be selected as they are double mutants; they will have undergone an exon 7 deletion in their SMN1 gene resulting in the development of SMA, and they will have a human SMN2 transgene, since mice do not normally have SMN2 genes. The mice will be homozygous for the SMN1 with the knockout, this is important because over 95% of SMA cases are due to the homozygous deletion of SMN1 genes. They will also be homozygous for the SMN2 transgene as SMN2 hemizygous mice do not survive past 16 days postnatal [The Jackson Laboratory, 2017]. Using these mice, we will carry out in vitro ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The power required for this experiment will be 80% to minimise the number of experimental mice used, since the difference we hope to measure is significantly large. A significance value of 0.05 will be used to limit the number of times type 1 errors may occur. With an effect size of 0.8, a power value of 0.8, and a significance of 0.05, a sample size of 52 is calculated, with 26 mice embryos in the control group and 26 in the treated group [AICBT Ltd, 2017]. Designing sgRNAs Single guided RNAs (sgRNAs) are required to guide the Cas9 endonucleases [Long, et al., 2014]. We need to design suitable sgRNAs to use in our experiment and test the feasibility of CRISPR Cas9 mediated genetic repair at the cellular level before we can inject the system into mice zygotes. Around five different sgRNAs can be designed, targeting different regions of the mutant SMN1 gene three targeting regions of the base pair deletion, one targeting the region immediately downstream of the base pair deletion and one targeting the normal sequence upstream of the deletion [Wu, et al., 2013]. The specificity of each of these sgRNAs can be tested through transfecting plasmids with the Cas9 and each of the different sgRNAs and place into wild type embryonic stem cells. PCR can be carried out for each sgRNA and their products, that we can assume to be the target region, can be amplified from the subsequent embryonic stem
  • 3. Why Should Teachers Get Paid More Why Teachers Should Be Paid More Many people wonder if teachers should or should not get paid more than they do. A lot of people believe that teachers should get paid more, but there are some that do not. Parents that want their kids to have a good education want teachers to get paid more. For example, P.V Derkachev said, ... teacher pay influences the quality of education. (Derkachev 574). Teachers that get payed more would be more likely to perform better at their job and not mind the extra time that they have to do stuff outside of work to get everything done. Matt Barnum said, Higher salaries even small bonuses can and do keep some teachers in the classroom, and likely improve outcomes for their students. (Barnum). The student is going to get taught better if teachers get paid more because the teacher will want to teach at the best of her ability which will help the student. Teachers should be paid more because They work outside of the classroom (Snyder). They have to work on lesson plans, grade their assignment, tests, and quizzes (Snyder). In 5 Reasons Why Teachers Need To Get Paid More, it says, If you take into account the average teacher s salary and the hours they spend at work, they could probably make more money being an hourly wage employee. (Snyder). They should be getting paid more because they do not get paid enough with how much they do outside of work to be able to do what they do in the classroom. Teachers work very hard for what they do and to get everything done. Another reason why teachers should be paid more is that We will have no teachers (Snyder). Kasey Snyder said, No one wants to have a job that underpays and undervalues them. A lot of people choice another path of career when they go to college instead of being a teacher because teachers do not get paid enough. In Teachers Need a Raise, it says that young teachers are ... more likely to cite low pay as one of the main drawbacks of teaching than older teachers and are also more likely to leave the profession because of low starting salaries. (Partelow). People that want to be a teacher end up not doing it for long in college and change their major or graduate and not teach for long and go to school for
  • 4. The Effects of Two or More Environmental Stressors on... The Effects of Two or More Environmental Stressors on Aggressive Behaviour An environmental stressor is a situation, which causes a negative emotional experience, accompanied by predictable physiological, biochemical and behavioural changes that are designed to help us adapt to the stressor. The three main environmental stressors are heat, noise and crowding, all of which may result in heightened physiological and psychological behaviour. A large number of studies have investigated the possibility of a connection between temperature and aggressive behaviour. Carlsmith and Anderson (1979) found that hotter weather gives a higher chance of a riot when they looked at disturbances in 79 US cities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It could also be a biological explanation. For example, the production of testosterone increases when you get hot (Anderson and Anderson, 1998). The relationship between temperature and aggression is not as simple as either the linear model or the curvilinear model, as other variables may affect the relationship. Crowding, another environmental stressor, is the unpleasant sensation that too many people share the same space. It is personal in how much it affects us, as it depends on how comfortable we feel in the close presence of others, and also how peoples perception of crowding leads to them reacting to certain levels of density. Calhan (1962) conducted an animal experiment into crowding leading to aggression. He placed an expanding rat population into a small area, and observed that they soon began sexually assaulting and killing each other, which confirms a link between crowding and aggression. Research into crowding in Australian clubs done by Macintyre and Hamel (1997) showed that the level of crowding in each nightclub was related to the number of observed aggressive incidents. This is a field experiment, meaning it has ecological validity and is not artificial and so can be applied to real life. However, they did not get participant consent for observations, which raise ethical issues. It seems clear that crowding is related to

She is a very special person because of her determination not to give up however hard life may get. She is an example of a hard worker and a very caring person. Nancy was born July 6, 1921. Nancy showed how caring she was when she cared for the welfare of wounded soldiers from the Vietnam War while she was First Lady of California. • 6. The Car Ride At Ohio State University The car ride was quiet for the first time in 18 years, it was a bittersweet taste but more on the bitter side. All I could hear was my car slowly gliding, rolling over the bumps of the highway. I kept thinking to myself that I must not to cry, but I could not stop the flow of sadness How could I not cry after dropping my youngest daughter, Julie, off at Ohio State. The number of applicants at The Ohio State University in 1989 was 15,748 (Ohio State enrollment Services). I would now be referred to as an empty nester. After Johnny mouthed off I was so infuriated I felt as if there was steam about to come out of my ears. Johnny noticed this anger building up inside me and busted out the front door. One would have thought a rabid dog was chasing him, but I wasn t rabid. He ran and got on the bus before I could get to him. On average a young adolescent runs a mile in 7 minutes(Let s Run). I looked down and noticed that I still had on my nightgown. This is perfect, I said to myself, deciding that I would show up to school in my nightgown and embarrass Johnny like never before. I pulled up to the school, just as the bus was rolling up, and I started to get out of the car when I saw a broom in the back seat. I decided I would use that as a fear factor prop to convey my message. I saw Johnny sitting in the back of the bus when he glanced out of the window and saw me standing there. He came over to me after getting off the bus. Mom, what are you doing here? he
  • 7. A Brief Note On Nickel And Dimed Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich reveals the shocking truth of trying to live on minimum wage in the United States. Barbara Ehrenreich, a journalist, decides to experiment living on a low income job after discovering the welfare reform legislation in 1996. She tries to survive on minimum wage for a month in three US cities; Key West, Portland, and Minneapolis. In Key West Florida, she learned about the challenges of working in a lower class job and trying to get by. The only way to afford basic necessities is by having two jobs or to have someone help pay, such as a working husband. In Portland, Barbara worked as a housecleaner and faced the harsh reality of not many people having appreciation or sympathy for lower class workers. To illustrate, as she kneeled on her hands scrubbing she felt ashamed when the house owner said, Can you do the same thing in the entryway while you re at it ? Society... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One key takeaway I learned is that when prices go up on items such as housing, food, clothes, the poor have a difficult time since they become forced into paying more. Now I believe that unemployment is not the main cause of poverty, it s simply that humans can t live off a low income job, especially when items are becoming pricey. Though, the biggest life lesson I learned is that we all tend to stereotype humans living in poverty as lazy and careless. Though, I realized that people in poverty may have a job and be extremely hard working. In our society we believe, if you have a job, you have a home, food on the table, and clothes on your back. Though, there are many people who work, but can barely afford a decent meal. Nickel and Dimed exposed me to what the American society has turned into,......... though, I believe it helped me grow as a person. Now every time I see a worker I see them with respect and gratitude.
  • 8. Odds Against Tomorrow Character Analysis As each day passes, the events that we encounter enters through each and everyone of our minds and becomes an assimilation of experiences. Over a long period of time one s past experiences come to affect how they see newer ones. As each and every experience fills our minds, it creates an expectation or order in which our judgment causes us to assume or create reason for the future to become a certain way. This process can be viewed as perspective, perspective influences your actions, emotions, it can be a complete rulebook for the way a person becomes and acts. In the book OddsAgainst Tomorrow, by Nathaniel Rich as we explore the world through the eyes of one character, Mitchelle, we began to notice a possibly very eccentric perspective on life and chance. Throughout the book we notice other characters and their views on the same events. This then relays back to previous experiences or life events that these characters have undergone. Overall through the reading we can notice a theme of multiple or different perspectives, that fact of which perspectives are right or where these perspectives come from is determined by the reader. One can simply conclude that because of the past experiences or events that an individual has encountered throughout their life this then becomes a major deciding factor in their new perceptive. This perspective can change, as the events that we experiencecome to change as well. For example an overflow of optimism may be encountered after one
  • 9. Spontaneous Human Combustion Essay Spontaneous Human Combustion The world is full of the unexplained and mysterious, but is spontaneous human combustion truly spontaneous caused by the paranormal, or just simply human combustion? Most people think of spontaneous human combustion, or SHC, as ...the reduction of an otherwise normal, healthy human body to a pile of fine black ash, the consistency of which is finer than that of a cremated corpse (Spontaneous). This is simply not true. First of all, it is not complete consumption because in most cases extremities and internal organs remain because the high temperature outside the body does not penetrate internally. Secondly, the fact that the ash is so fine is often used by SHC proponents as to why the fire must by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To find a logical explanation scientists looked for a common thread in the cases. This common thread seemed to be alcohol. During this Victorian era, an evil of the Christian society was drink. SHC ...was viewed as a sort of a moral punishment for drunkenness (Cohen 195). Since the cause of SHC was believed to be drinking, many had oral remedies for SHC. In Germany the common people had great faith in liquid manure as a preventive for spontaneous combustion... (Bondeson 7). If you lived in Scandinavia at that time you may have had heard of an even more unlikely preventive. Swedish and Norwegian folklore prescribed human urine, preferably freshly voided by a woman, to be thrown into the mouth of a flowing drunkard... (Bondeson 7). During this Victorian era SHC became popular in literature. Mark Twain was one writer who popularized SHC in his book, Life on the Mississippi, during early America. Jimmy Finn was not burned in a calaboose, but died a natural death in a vat of a combination of delirium tremens and spontaneous combustion. (quoted in Cohen 192). Charles Dickens also wrote about SHC in his book, Bleak House, and he attributed it to alcohol. Dickens described the death of the drunken man, Krook, in the following manner: Here is a small burnt patch of flooring; here is the tender from a little bundle of burnt paper, but not so light as usual, seeming to be steeped in
  • 10. Comparison Of First Baptist And Frazer Methodist Church The two churches I attended were First Baptist and Frazer Methodist Church. The experiences I had were not too far from each other meaning they weren t really all that different. The First Church I went to was Frazer. When I first got there I was a little confused because I didn t really know anybody at first. But as I got in to the church and started to meet more people I felt very welcomed like I was meant to go the church. When the service started the first thing that happened was the Youth Minister came and spoke to us. He was telling us about the mission trips they are currently doing and also what they had been learning about in the weekly service for the past few months they had been talking about being spiritually fit for God. After he talked to us about that he sent us all off and we went to Sunday School. At Sunday school there... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the main service we started with a prayer. And then we sang a few songs and listened to the sermon. The sermon was about how no matter how broken we are God will accept us. After that we ended the sermon concluded with a few songs and went home. Overall I really enjoyed the experience at Frazer it was very nice and they had some really good points. But one thing that I didn t really like was the fact that it wasn t really personal like I like the Church service to be. The next service I attended was First Baptists Sunday service when I first got there I knew almost every single person the people that were there were mostly Trinity people and some the people were from other schools but I still knew most of them. The first thing that happened was they had a free breakfast for anyone who wanted it. The first thing we did was talk about the wednesday service and what they did at the Wednesday evidently that Wednesday they talked about being fit for God. So after we sang a few songs we went to the Sunday School. The person who hosted the Sunday school class was

  • 12. Skepticism And Critical Thinking Analysis Look to your left and then look to your right, take in everything around you. All one sees is a materialistic world in a 3D environment. Philosophers always questioned the system and the world we live in. Then there is a space in our awareness of reality and the environment around us, between our knowledge and the external world. There s a veil of perception lies between us and the physical world we interact with. For example, someone that watches the stars assumes that they are millions and millions of light years away from him. Yet, what he sees are the stars inside himself. The external world is a planet consisting of a huge number of objects and events that are experienced or whose existenceis accepted by the mind, but which exist independently... Before all the reflections that have lifted skeptical doubts causing our epistemic relation to the external world, Skepticism can be different in attitudes, depth, and scope. A skeptic s attitude may be one of doubt, of denial, of suspension, or one of withholding. Take it this way: 1. Things actually are P. (P is just a complete description of the way things seemed to you to be when you looked around. It is certainly obvious to you that things seem to you to be P. You might say that you have a special sort of access to how things seem to you. Now, which of the following scenarios is better supported by, that is, is more justified by, its seeming to you to be P?:) 2. You re being deceived by a very powerful evil demon right now. This demon has the ability to manipulate your sensory impressions such that it will seem to you that things. are some way when they are not that way at all. Accordingly, things are actually nothing like P (2). Maybe one of the most known skeptical scenarios is RenГ© Descartes (1596 1650) in his Meditations on First Philosophy (1641). In the book, Descartes considers that he may be dreaming or maybe that he may be being controlled by the evil demon from scenario two. What about Hollywood, the city of movies, is using skeptical plots in their movies for example: Total Recall, The Matrix, and

  • 14. Difference Between Classical And Classical Economic Thought The history of macroeconomic thought and policy was developed through different phases mainly marked by the depressions, recessions and expansion of the 1930s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. Various macroeconomic theories were developed during these periods. Among them, Keynesian and classical economics addressed economic problems such as unemployment issue with similarities but also differences. In this essay, I will identify similarities and differences in Keynesian and classical economic thought. Then, describe how Keynesian and classical economists address the issue of unemployment. And finally, I will describe new developments since the 1980s. To identify similarities in Keynesian and classical economic thought let us first examine their definitions: Classical economics is the body of macroeconomic thought associated primarily with 19th century British economist David Ricardo that focused on the long run and on the forces that determine and produce growth in an economy s potential output. Keynesian Economics is the body of macroeconomic thought that asserts that changes in aggregate demand can create gaps between the actual and potential levels of output, and that such gaps can be prolonged. It stresses the use of fiscal and monetary policy to close such gaps. We notice from those definitions that both thoughts focus on how an economy reaches its potential output through various factors. Unlike similarities, there are more differences in Keynesian and

He reasons, [that] the term constitution signifies the same thing as civic body [and] that the civic body in every city is the sovereign; and the sovereign must necessarily be either One, or Few, or Many. On this basis we may say that when the One, or Few, or Many rule with a view to the common interest, the constitution under which they do so much necessarily be the right constitution (1279^a 25, 188). He goes on to say that according to customary usage the governmenttype that focuses on the common interest is kingship. In the context of the passage, he refers to three types as the right types of structures (kingship, aristocracy, and constitutional government) and includes their perversions in government form, which are Tyranny, [the perversion of] Kingship; Oligarchy of Aristocracy, and Democracy of Constitutional Government (1279^a4, 189). He therefore can guide the son to make the right decisions and reach happiness because he himself lives a good, just, and wise life. The city can then live in that way. Aristotle himself speaks of how in order for a city to strive, the leaders must strive as well as they need to have the intentional vision for the common interest accompanied by virtue, justice, and good. I think that this can be best manifested through the analogy of a wise and noble father raising his son. This type of government has historically been seen through the lens of Aristotle when it comes to justifying the purpose for a

Gender Is The Reality Of Gender We act as if that being of a man or that being of a woman is actually an internal reality or something that is simply true about us, a fact about us, but actually it s a phenomenon that is being produced all the time and reproduced all the time, so to say gender is performative is to say that nobody really is a genderfrom the start. (Judith Butler). Differences and opinions about genders are pointed out through most of our precious time on this planet Earth and most of us are so used to this kind of interaction with humans that it just becomes completely normal to us to hear about all the time. When thinking about a man we imagine that gender showing a sign of dominance, strength, and emotionless. When thinking about a woman we imagine that gender showing a sign of nurturing, less dominant, and emotional. Because of these stereotypical differences, this unfortunately leads to an inequality of some sort that leads to segregation of tasks and disrespect between the two genders. The argument here is that we re all the same but many people out there are too blind to see it and they would much rather believe the myth rather than the truth. If this is the case, what myths can be busted and show that both genders are really identical? There is a ton of individual diversity within societies and sexes in regards to how sex and gender play out in behavior and personality. But unfortunately, this concept is confused with genders and sexes being the same thing when it really

The focus is on socioeconomic, demographic, and attitudinal characteristics that influence people to run their small business (Sookran Watson, 2008). Moreover, Sookram Watson (2008) in their research on Small business participation in the informal sector of an emerging economy explain that the word informal sector refers to the production of goods and services for market orientation, which is not captured in the estimation of a country s GDP whether these activities are legal or illegal. The contribution of the informal sector to the national economy in the third world economies ranges from 20 to 70 %. It has been commonly thought that the informal sector is the sector linked with the poor and marginalized. While there are many more classic characteristics, that will be discussed later in this paper, this one feature along with the baby s small size has the doctor concerned and is cause enough to recommend genetic testing for an exact diagnosis. CORNELIA DE LANGE Diagnosis for Cornelia de Lange syndrome (CdLs) consists of genetic testing, as well as findings made from physical and developmental observations. As with most syndromes, CdLs has a range from mild to severe. There are classic signs like small size, long eyelashes, eyebrows that meet in the middle, and missing fingers or arms. Other children are so mildly affected, the condition goes unnoticed and undiagnosed. Many individuals diagnosed with CdLs have a majority of physical, medical, and developmental disabilities. Once the diagnosis is confirmed, a battery of tests will follow. With the results, a better picture of needed treatments, education, and useful resources can be provided. Educating families and caregivers has been shown to increase the quality of life for the individuals diagnosed with CdLs. Providing information as to

Talli s History and Description of the Crystal Palace and the Exhibition of the World s Industry in 1851 From 1837 to 1901, under the reign of Queen Victoria, Great Britain, with the supremacy of its Royal Navy, had largely fulfilled its ambition of global imperial expansion in Asia and Africa particularly. As the British Empiresoon became the largest empire in history, this era was later known as the Victorian Era(John 129). To further unite nations and demonstrate an imperial industrial and economic leadership of the world, Queen Victoria s husband, Prince Albert organized the first world s fair, namely, The Great Exhibitionof the Works of Industry of All Nations , at the Crystal Palace in Hyde Park, London, from May 1 to October 15 in 1851 (Celik 1). Not only did the diversity of the foreign goods displayed at the exhibition astonish the publics, but also the Crystal Palace, designed by Joseph Paxton and Owen Jones, as the striking structure that housed these articles attracted millions of visitors around the world during 1851 (Fig. 1). Later after the exhibition, the foreign articles were transferred to the South Kensington Museum (Crinson 65) as part of the Imperial archive (Barringer 11), to promote industrial and commercial education among domestic artisans and skilled labourers in the next fifty years, with a hope that the nation s economic growth

Their classification is that Denzel Washington is categorized as a personality actor. Will Patton is a categorized as an impersonator actor and Wood Harris is also categorized as a personality actor as well. I fell that Denzel Washington is considered to be a personality actor because the role or character that he plays (Coach Herman Boone) is a man who demands perfection from his players on and off of the football field. Washington embodies the role of the character making it hard to tell the difference between the actor and his character or role being play (Goodykoontz Jacob, 2014). Will Patton is
  • 35. Essay on Prion Diseases Prion Diseases Abstract Transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) are neurodegenerative diseases that are thought to be caused by the misfolding of prion proteins. Prions are able to replicate in the absence of nucleic acids. TSEs include: scrapie, bovine spongiform encephalopathy, Creutzfeldt Jakob disease, kuru, Gerstmann Straussler Scheinker disease, and Fatal Familial Insomnia. They can affect many different animals, including humans. Currently, there are no ways to diagnose, treat, or cure TSEs, as much more research is needed before these diseases are completely understood. 1. Overview Prions are a type of protein found naturally in the brain and other regions of the central nervous system. The diseases associated with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2 2. The Prion Protein and Its Function The prion protein (PrP) is unusual in that it has two stable isoforms. The cellular or normal form of the prion protein is termed PrPC, while the disease form is termed PrPSC. Sharing the same sequence of amino acids, or primary structure, PrPC and PrPSC differ in their secondary, tertiary, and quaternary structures. The normal prion protein has N and C terminals, three alpha helices, and two beta sheets (Soto, 2006, 40). Its function is still not completely understood. However, scientists have found evidence that point to various possibilities. 1) Because most PrPC are located in lipid rafts, membrane structures involved in signaling, it is suggested that PrPC may also be a mediator in neuroprotective signaling pathways. 2) Interaction between PrPC and Bcl 2, a ligand involved in protecting neurons from apoptosis, suggests the possibility that PrPC may be an antiapoptotic protein. 3) PrPC has also been linked to copper metabolism in the brain. In one particular study, PrP knockout mice, or mice that were genetically altered to not express PrP, were found to have lower levels of copper in their brains and higher levels in their serum (Soto, 2006, 42). However, in other studies with PrP knockout mice, most of the animals did not display any obvious disorders, and those that did were found to have been affected by the increase in concentration of another protein known as doppel.
  • 36. Polyperspectivity In William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying 4. William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying is brilliant in it s use of disrupted narrative, but also in it s pioneering use of polyperspectivity. Indeed, the polyperspectivity was the crux of the novella. First, it engendered the same confusion that the family felt with the loss of Addie. For many readers, this would make the novella a difficult read, as people tend to have problems with being taken up into a story, as faulkner intended. Second, it allows one to experience the return to normalcy (or the opposite, seen in the foil of Darl) that each character experiences, from their own point of view. This gives us a much more in depth view of each character s particular neurotic tendencies. Finally, the masterful use of polyperspectivity allows... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Flannery O Connor is one of America s best Catholic writers, by a wide margin. In, The Life You Save May Be Your Own , she goes to great lengths to portray catholic concepts, especially the fall of man to sin. At the beginning of the story, we can see Tom Shiftlet as a man who is very concerned with his own moral intelligence , showing that he is open to the love of God. However, right away, hints har given to show that he could also reject God. When he is first described, he wears black, traditionally representing the christian adversary, as well as a disconnection from God more generally. In addition to this, he forms his body into a cross in front of the sun, however it is lopsided and incomplete due to his missing arm. Immediately (though he seems to care little for money) it is obvious that he lusts after Lucynell Crater s automobile. Mrs. Crater offers to give him a place to stay and feed him, in exchange for work around the farm. However, lest one think that Mrs. Crater is saintly, she is mostly of the hope that Shiftlet will marry her deaf daughter. This forms one of the main interplays of the story, in that both characters have something the other wants, and both know it. This produces quite witty and interesting dialogue throughout. Lucynell the younger, it should be pointed out, is portrayed to be the perfect woman for the man. Indeed, she seems to represent more than simple innocence, but a gift from God. In the end, Mrs. Crater trades the truck for her daughter s hand in marriage, in her mind, winning her salvation. Shiftlet takes the car and Lucynell the younger for a honeymoon. They stop to get food, and Lucynell manages to fall asleep on the table, after which Shiftlet leaves her. Thus he has sealed his fate through rejecting the goodwill of God in the name of freedom in true luciferian fashion. The car has previously been likened to a casket and a coffin, through Mrs. Crater and Mr. Shiftlet conversations. It has now become his casket,
  • 37. The Relationship Of Jesus And Christian Mentoring In The... Mentor is characterized as a wise and trusted advocate or instructor. Although tutoring/mentoring is not in the Bible, it gives us various cases of coaching. Moses was a great example of a mentoring relationship. The mentoring relationship among Eli and Samuel allowed Samuel to take on tasks and obligations that were his after Eli s demise. Jesusmentor His disciples, while Barnabas and Paul exceeded expectations in mentoring. Jesus made His style of mentoring clear. He led so we may follow. He stated if anybody will come after him, let them take up his cross and follow him. Since He is our leader and we are to follow Him, Christian mentoring is a procedure subordinate upon accommodation to Christ. Neither the mentor or mentee controls the relationship. The way toward mentoring is portrayed by sharing, trust, and enrichment as the life and work of the two members is changed. The mentor fills in as a model and a confided in audience. The guide depends on the Holy Spirit to give understanding, change lives, and educate through demonstration. Jesus and the apostles, as well as elders in the church do their work by mentoring. Peter states to be the example of the flock, and Paul discloses to the elders at Ephesus. Paul demonstrates to the elders, so that they may show others. If a Christian leader is not mentoring to that degree, he or she is not satisfying their calling. God has filled the group of Christ with potential mentors other than the individuals who are elders.

A heavy rock song would be more suitable for the rock playlist that I have. Songs have different characteristics, while also evoking different feelings within the those who listen. This fact hints at the concept of subclasses and super classes. For example, the genre rock and roll could be the super class of punk rock, because Rock and Roll is a fairly broad category of music and punk rock is a more specific type or flavor of rock; thus showing how punk rock is a subclass of Rock and Roll. Punk Rock is a category within a category of music. Rock and Roll demonstrates how a genre can evolve from being relatively specific to generally broad as time progresses and new music is introduced over the years. With the superclass of Rock and Roll at the top of the hierarchy, under it could be other subclasses like hard rock, blues rock, pop rock, psychedelic rock, Christian rock, Latin Rock, southern rock, etc. I would not consider my grouping of music to be mutually exclusive. For instance, I may have one song that is on multiple playlists. The song Summer, by the artist Calvin Harris, is on both my party playlist and my Electronic Dance Music playlist. This particular song qualifies and meets the guidelines for both these playlists that I made. The type of song that I was looking to add in each playlist was achieved. But the concept of honor has changed over time. Today, honor is telling the truth, putting others before oneself, being kind, and protecting people no matter the cost. However, in the French epic, The Song of Roland honor is a very incommensurable thing. Honor is idealized by characters like Roland, Ganelon, and Marsilion as bravery to the point of stupidity and ultimately even death. Honor was not defending others, but safeguarding one s own reputation and legacy. And a multitudinous amount of characters in this epic put honor above all else, and it s not always smart. Though that is somewhat understandable seeing as Roland had previously volunteered Ganelon to take part in an extremely dangerous task. A task which Ganelon agreed to take on for the sake of maintaining his honor. However, before he embarked on his journey he threatened Roland three times, which would later allow him to kill Roland in a legal, but more importantly honorable, way. When Ganelon returned from his journey unharmed he took it upon himself to rid the world of Roland. He appointed Roland to the army rear guard where his recklessness would surely bring his life to an end. But to his consternation, Roland ultimately chose to blow the horn which signaled for help. Eventually, Ganelon s vengeful spirit got the best of him and Charlemagne realized his plans for Roland and swiftly punished him; for Charlemagne had been far too trusting in previous times. One such person that Charlemagne wrongly trusted was Marsilion, King of Saragossa, and according to The Song of Roland, a hater of God s name. Marsilion was a man who craved honor so much that he was willing to do anything to get it, even the dishonorable. To the Saracen King, part of honor was being feared. And he had surely accomplished that by doing things such as chopping up foreign messengers and sending their remains back to their people. Marsilion saw glory, honor, and power as a package. One of the examples is the suicide of 900 members of the People s temple. Sects are not a new phenomenon and they have always attracted controversy. If Magellan and Faleiro refuse to come back to Portugal, de Costa warns that they will lose all their honor, that their family and friends will suffer, and that they will risk upsetting the delicate truce between Portugal and Spain. As a Portuguese captain sailing for Spain, Magellan is not well received by the people of Seville. His coat of arms is mistaken for that of the Portuguese king, and an angry mob attacks Magellan and his crew. Although Magellan escapes harm, this shows that Magellan is powerless against the people, foreshadowing a future mutiny. However, Magellan cannot dwell on the incident, as his work is far from done.
