Good to Great Essay
Good to Great Book Review
To transform a good company to great company is all manages dream, but only few
of them make it. To find out the core factors which lead to a good company became

companies face different opportunities and threats. To begin the research for the

In the same time, Wells Fargo recruited talented people into the companywithout any
specific job, because the CEO believed that these smart people could help company
to face and deal with the future changes and difficulties (Collins, 2001, p.42). Well
Fargo is easy to adapt to a changing world when banking deregulation arrived.
Moreover, Wells Fargo went three times higher than general stock market which
the banking fell 59 percent behind. CEO of Wells Fargo, Dick Cooley a level 5
leader, understand three simple truths. First, if you begin with who, rather than
what, you can more easily adapt to a changing world. Second, if you have the right
people on the bus, there are no problem to motivate and manage people goes. Right
people are self motivated by the inner drive to produce the best results, and right
people don t need to be tightly managed, they know what they should or should not
do. Third, if you have the wrong people on the bus, you won t get to the place where
you want to go, whatever how hard to motivate and manage them. Right people are
the most important asset in the company. Right people can turn a nearly bankruptcy
company to Fortune 500 company.
The third reason why good to great companies outperform, is they do not cover up
the bad news (confront the brutal facts). Nobody likes to hear the bad news, but we
have to facing it and take reaction about it. Furthermore all good to great

`` Bioterrorism, Embryonic Stem Cells, And Frankenstein
By...
As Mankind continues to advance it is pursuit of knowledge, it is faced with myriad
dilemmas, particularly in the cases of cloning, stem cell experimentation, and the
genetic sequencing of viruses and pathogens. The academic article Bioterrorism,
Embryonic Stem Cells, and Frankenstein written by Patrick Guinan, discusses the
morality and potential hubris of sciences continued exploration of seemingly
forbidden areas, as well as humanities identity and potential desire to achieve
knowledge to rival God. Guinan s research aims to explore, question, and ultimately
bring light to the potential issues that may arise from such pursuits. This research
raises several questions, as well as causes of concern, which will all be addressed in
this essay. The author of this article makes use of intelligent analysis, evidence from
ages both recent and ancient, and well thought out discourse, in order to cause readers
to consider just what ethics and morality is to science, as well as what it is to our
identity as humanity as a whole. It is important to understand the references to
history that the author uses, in order to properly read and understand this articles
intentions. First the author references the anthraxattack carried out by terrorists in
2001. These attacks consisted of letters with anthrax spores inside of them, which
were then mailed different news offices and the offices of two U.S. Senators. The
attacks killed five people and infected nearly 20 others. Guinan s
Problems Within Education Today s Education Essay
Problems Within Education Today
For my extra credit assignment I would like to research, and write about the
problems in education today. According to chapter eight in the book, worldwide one
in five adults can not read or write, two thirds of them being women. The problems
we are facing in education can be linked to other social problems such as poverty or
unemployment, seeing that those who graduate college make up twenty percent of
the unemployment rate, compared to the forty percent of the unemployment rate in
people with less than a high school degree. Another issue facing education is the
inequality of schools and school districts. School districts with a lower
socioeconomic status must spend more money on things like maintaining the school.
Thus, leaving less money to spend on bettering the education of the children, which
in turn leads to higher rates of drop outs, and lower rates of college attendance.
Therefore, leaving them more likely to be unemployed or live in poverty. Finally,
another major problem facing the American education system is the lack of financial
support. One survey revealed that the most common thing to happen due to budget
cuts is to increase the class size, which has been directly correlated with poorer
academic achievement. The problems facing education are plentiful, most of which
are grounded in financial woes. These effects can be devastating to the lives of the
children it affects or society as a whole, due to the statistics correlating
The Scottsboro Boys And The Great Depression
On March 25, 1931, With the Great Depression gripping the nation after the stock
market crash of 1929, people jumped on to freight trains to travel from one city to
another city in hope to search for work. A group of whites and a group of blacks who
are later called the Scottsboro boys got in a fight on a train. The Scottsboro boyswere
defending themselves and they kicked the white group off in Jackson County.
Then, two women who were on the train were trying to avoid arrest therefore
falsely accused the nine black youths (who range from the age of thirteen to
nineteen years old) of raping them. The Scottsboro boys were then arrested with
assault and rape charges added against all nine of them after the allegations were
made by Victoria Price and Ruby Bates. It was a rousing allegation in the Jim Crow
South, where many whites were attempting to maintain power just 66 years after the
end of the Civil War.
On April 6, 1931, Trials begin in Scottsboro before Judge A. E. Hawkins. On April 9,
a judge sentenced the eight convicted defendants: Clarence Norris, Charlie Weems,
Haywood Patterson, Olen Montgomery, Ozie Powell, Willie Roberson, Eugene
Williams, and Andy Wright; are sentenced to death by electrocution. He declared a
mistrial in the case of the youngest defendant, thirteen year old Roy Wright ends in a
mistrial, after seven jurors insisted on the death penalty even though the prosecution
asked for life imprisonment. The cross examination of Victoria Price lasted
Romanesque-Byzantine Basilica
On March 4, 2017, I visited the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate
Conception in Washington D.C. The shrine honors the Blessed Virgin Mary as the
Immaculate Conception, the prominent patroness of the United States. Also, the
construction of the building is notable for its Romanesque Byzantine architecture,
which began in 1920 under Philadelphia contractor John Mcshain. Although the
shrine is known for containing a plethora of art, this essay will describe, interpret, and
aesthetically judge two particular forms: Christ in Majesty , a 3,600 square foot
mosaic that dominates the space above the altar of the great upper church, and the
overall Romanesque Byzantine architecture of the structure. Christ the Majesty ,

It portrays Christ as judging the world by fire, which is similar to 1 Corinthians
3:13, each one s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it
will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done.
Also, while looking closely at Christ s face, I realized that his right eyebrow is more
arched and peaceful, while the one on the left is angled downward and severe. This
technique of showing the Justice and Mercy of God on the face of Christ is
commonly used in the Eastern Churches. In addition, this technique correlates with a
verse in the Old Testament which says, On the Day of Judgement there will be mercy
seen by those who have shown mercy and severe justice to those who have been
severe. Furthermore, it is significant that Christ is portrayed as being strong and
powerful, reiterating his role on the Day of Judgement. In contrast, the architecture of
the church seems to depict what is described Romanesque Byzantine architecture.
Romanesque architecture is defined by its massive size, thick walls, arches, piers,
groin vaults, towers, and ornamented ambulatories. On the other hand, Byzantine
architecture is dominated by high domes with the utilization of pendentives for
support. The shrine is a composite of a Romanesque exterior and a Byzantine

strong words that saved Wilbur s life. It is also noticed that

Its importance has further increased after the incident of 9/11 which posed a direct
threat to the security of this region and due to extremist element and US presence in
this region. Apart from the external factors that are causing serious security threats to
the South Asian region, one cannot turn a blind eye from the growing internal
conflicts and their impacts in the regional security and strategic stability of this
region. Particularly, one cannot deny the fact that South Asian security is directly
associated with the relations between the two significant South Asian states i.e. India
and Pakistan.
The Issue of security dates back to 1947 when the sub continent was divided
between India and Pakistan. So the division created the problems of land dispute
between two countries including Kashmir, Siacheen and Sir Creek. The
geographical division also created water dispute between two countries because of
handing over Ferozpur headwork to India that led to India s control of water. This
situation was later on resolved by World Bank through Indus Basin Treaty through
which the two western rivers were given to India and Pakistan was given a specific
Share in water of Indus. Now that share of water is being disputed by India.
The two South Asian neighboring countries Pakistan and India have a unmitigated
record of tensions for number of assorted issues including Kashmir dispute, cross
border terrorist activities,
The Freudian Slip Theory
Introduction
Freudian slip theory was originally created by Sigmund Freud. He was an Austrian
neurologist and was better known as the founder of psychoanalysis (1856 1939).
Psychoanalysis can be defined as a set of psychological theories which includes the
Freudian slip theory. He believed that everyone possess an unconscious mind,
feelings, desires and memories in their lifetime. It is to be said that peoples will bring
their unconscious content on their mind to their conscious awareness and people will
be able to experience catharsis and gain insight into their current state of mind.
(Cherry, What is Psychoanalysis?, 2016)
Freud s theory of slips of the tongue and pen Sigmund Freud theory is formed based
on peoples brings the unconscious thoughts to conscious self. Freudian slip is the
Hint of the Unconscious. (Cherry, What is a Freudian Slip?, 2015) A Freudian
slip also known as a parapraxis, is an error of speech and memory or physical
action which Freud stated was a result of interference of self own unconsciousness
wish, desire, conflict or train of thought. Freud believed errors of all types were
revealing. It acted like a defense mechanisms and errors come in many varieties.

The words that involve in the passage are potted and private . Both words are
adjectives and they starts with the letter p . Freud recognized this and maintained
that most errors happened when there are several causes to create the error. He
named it over determination of an error. It resembles a modern idea about how
memory retrieval takes place through an intersecting association process. When
interpreting the word potted lies at the intersection of several associations: it starts
with the letter p , it has two syllables, it fits into the sentence and it has to do with
the roommate problem. So the word potted was used and applied it on my roommate
The Marketing Strategy Of Whirlpool Corporation
In the United States, the cooking industry is a mature market with high penetration,
therefore, replacement product is significantly important to the industry. The United
States has three major manufacturers for domestic production; Whirlpool, General
Electric, and Electrolux. The appliance industry is changing and become more
competitive with the influence of Asian competitors, specifically, LG and Samsung is
importing appliances into the United States. Subsequently, in January 2016, a
Chinese manufacturer, Haier, bid for the purchase of General Electric Appliances,
finalizing the contract, Monday, June 6, 2016 (Thompson, 2016).
Whirlpool Corporation is the largest global manufacturer of home appliances
(Innovation at the Pace of Life, 2016). Although, Whirlpool is globally the largest
manufacturer, they do not dominate all markets, as they do in North America. In
North America, Whirlpool s strength lies in a strong and vast brand portfolio,
consisting of seven brands (Fettig, 2016). In 2006, the United States Department of
Justice approved the acquisition of Maytag Corporation by Whirlpool (Henriques,
2006). The acquisition served a two fold purpose, seating Whirlpool in the number
one market share position in North America and adding strong brands such as
Maytag, Jenn Air, and Amana to the portfolio. A series of acquisitions is accelerating
growth for Whirlpool and ensuring global market leadership. Whirlpool acquired

Raymond Carver Cathedral Analysis
Blind to the Blind
To be imaginative is to be a child. As a person ages, he is expected to mature into
adulthood and to live in the real world. He is expected to abandon his childhood
dreams and cultivate practicality and factuality. However, imaginations are not
limited to unicorns and dragons; it is a skill a person must nurture to realize his
dreams and desires. To be imaginative is to be a visionary. Without a vision, a person
lacks the sight for compassion, curiosity, and self consciousness. In this sense,
imagination is not only to think outside the box, but also to search deeper inside. In
the short story, Cathedral by Raymond Carver, Carver develops the idea that a lack of
imagination limits a person to the physical and visible world which leads to the
blindness to the abstract world and rejection of the uncertain future. It is when a
person opens his eyes to the unseen that he can create emotional connection with
others and discover the profound truth inside himself.
The narrator s lack of imagination leads him to reject what is beyond his visual
perception. The narrator looks at his surroundings plainly as they are and therefore
fails to see the deeper meanings behind it. Throughout the story, the narrator is
watching television, which symbolizes his narrow perspective and his failure to
observe the world on his own. His idea of blindness came from the movies (Carver
315) and this preconceived notion results in his unenthusiastic attitude towards

was intentionally letting the Dallas players and fans know that no matter where he
played the field was his field and he could not be stopped. This shows his
competitiveness, toughness, and his relentless pursuit to dominate and intimidate his
competition, including the media.
Cultural capital is a way that people within any culture distinguish themselves from
people from outside the culture, and it typically also involves judgments of value,
worth, or character. Regardless of Terrell s skills, mannerisms, and credentials he
doesn t mind sacrificing the relationships acquired through being part of the
professional football world. Terrell thought very highly of himself sharing the same
passion for football as his teammates and opponents he created a sense of identity
and belonging. However, putting a lot effort into presenting himself as a unique
player worthy of being sought after in the NFL, Terrell acts as though he has
knowledge that confers power and status. Failing to realize that he helped hinder his
own social mobility and ultimately his income and wealth, he can only blame himself
and not the media.
The media portrays Terrell Owensas an athlete that does not deserve to be in the
Hall of Fame but this is because of his own actions and personality. Terrell should
accept responsibility for how he presents himself to his fans and the commentators.
For example, Owens said the Eagles showed a lack of class by not publicly
acknowledging his 100th career touchdown

were not interested in adapting to the culture of Mexicans. They wanted the
Mexicans to adapt to the Anglo ways of life. On June 14, 1846 a group of 35 or so

Justification Of The Atomic Bomb
On 6 August 1945 the Enola Gay, a B 29 bomber, dropped the first atomic bomb to
be used in actual combat on Hiroshima, Japan. The aftermath of this single bomb was
over 130,000 dead and wounded. The skyline of Hiroshima was almost completely
leveled. This caught the
Japanese completely off guard. This as well as the bombing of Nagasaki three days
later led to the final and unconditional surrender of the Japanese
Empire and the end to World War II. The end result of these bombings outweighed
the alternative of invading the Japanese mainland instead of unleashing atomic
weapons on the Japanese by a great deal.
The months and years that lead up to this massive blow against the
Japanese were full of heated debates and arguments on the moral implications of
using an atomic weapon against a civilian target. At the time the Japanese were
running rampant in the Pacific and our nation was fighting a three front war: one
front in the Pacific, one front in Europe, and the final front in North Africa. This
placed a great deal of strain on our wartime resources, the tactic of Island Hopping
was becoming successful but the amount of manpower being needed for the other
two fronts meant that the Pacific front was not able to become a top priority.

The Advantageous Of Petrodollar And Islamic Finance...
3.7.The advantageous of Petrodollar to Islamic Finance
Petrodollar flows have been among the major factors supporting the growth of the
Islamic finance industry ever since the 1960s GIFF (2010). The rising petrodollar
flows in global markets imply continued and increasing petrodollar investments in the
Islamic finance sector. This has led to a surge of interest in the Islamic Finance sector,
with more and more countries positioning themselves as strategic locations to tap into
part of this abundant pool of funds. For instance, a number of countries worldwide
have announced their plans to issue Sukuk (Islamic bonds) and thus meet their
financing needs by attracting high net worth investors (HNWIs) and wealth from the
Middle East region. HNWIs are particularly on the look out for efficient and secure
jurisdictions for investing their funds, more so in the context of the present economic
downturn . Operating in a facilitative business environment and reducing cost of
operations are deemed instrumental factors for market players. Accordingly, a
number of jurisdictions have actively encouraged the development of their Islamic
capital markets as a key strategy for attracting both HNWIs and Islamic finance
businesses . In particular, it has been observed that jurisdictions from across the
world are developing their Islamic capital markets by utilising the efficiency provided
by Offshore Financial Centres (OFCs) to structure Shari ah compliant products which

A change may be small or large, definitely it pushes the organization in different

The Difficult Transition from Duvalierism to Democracy in Haiti
Haiti has historically been the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere, suffering
from mismanagement of resources and corrupt rule by the elites. The rule of the
Duvaliers had concentrated the wealth of the state in the Duvalier family and its
political allies, the Duvalierists. This had been the way Haiti was always run since its
independence in 1804: the wealthy, French speaking elite ruling as an oligarchy or
dictatorship over the poor, Creole speaking masses. The events that occurred from
1986 to 1995 sought to change Haitian society forever in a transition from predatory
dictatorship to popular democracy. However, that path would not be smooth, as the...

In 1964, he completed the transition to a personalist dictatorship by declaring
himself president ad vitem aeternam by popular decree. (Rotberg 107) As his grip
on power increased, the exodus of the former elite and educated Haitians increased,
leaving Haiti with less skilled workers and an elite that was increasingly black and
increasingly loyal to Duvalier. However, he also held onto support from the mulatto
bourgeoisie by allowing them to maintain control of the economic sector. Thus, he
was able to maintain control over the masses through the control of the two elites and
the tontons macoutes a coalition that was called the Duvalierists. (Fatton 56)
Just before Duvalier died in 1971, he named his son, Jean Claude, also known as
Baby Doc, as his successor. Having grown up in the prestige of Papa Doc, Baby
Doc abandoned his relationship with the black bourgeoisie formally upon his
marriage to a mulatto, Michele Bennett, whose father grew rich from her relationship
with Baby Doc and used the country s money to enrich herself materially. (Gold 221)
Taking advantage of increased relative liberalization resulting from a shift to an

at its authoritarian nature through such media as the Church s Radio Soleil and the

Media layers contain audio, video and graphics geared towards creating the best

Stereotypes In Pixar Films
The standard way of thinking about the big picture of movies has always been the
same especially animated ones. The movie usually centers upon a male who in the

Meaning Of Confessional Poetry
Confessional Poetry was the term given to the works of a group of American poets
including Robert Lowell, Anne Sexton, John Berryman, Sylvia Plath, W. D.
Snodgrass, and less often Theodore Roethke and Allen Ginsberg who were writing
verse in the late nineteen fifties and sixties. This label, confessional, was so named
misnamed by critic M. L. Rosenthal in a 1959 review of Robert Lowell s Life
Studies, because of the personal voice and colloquial style the volume presented
which was unlike the formality of Lowell s previous collections. For their subject
matter these poets used parts of life not ordinarily presented in the public domain,
such as frank revelations about marital infidelities, experiences with drug and alcohol
addictions, mental breakdowns, and suicideattempts. Yet Rosenthal s term,
confessional, radically simplified the work that it labeled. Not only did many famous
figures such as Sylvia Plath, Anne Sexton, and John Berryman committed suicide in
this school but also used their poems as a public forum for engaging in literal and

In contemplating her own feelings and reasons for suicide, Sylvia Plath weighs how
to emerge, and learn, from her own death wish: How is it done? Talking and
becoming aware of what is what and studying it is a help 102. In fact, Plath s most
successful poems are spoken by personas who address their survival of attempted
suicide. It is her speakers that wish to die and so defiantly fail at completing their
own suicides that interest me most. The speaker of the poem Lady Lazarus
infamously claims that Dying / is an art, and it is Plath s artistry of suicide which
makes her poetry so successful.103 Her speakers are perfected in their inability to

Sensual And Casual Relationship In The United States
A spousal relationship is defined by other words like union, marriage, wedlock,
matrimony, or others depending on factors like the country of origin and religion.
Essentially, it is the commitment of two people to one another until death, or in
today s world, with divorce. Many people forget that when you commit to another
person as you do in a marriage recognized by the government or a spiritual leader,
you are also accepting certain responsibilities. Depending on the country and the
religion, a spousal relationship can vary when it comes down to details. Generally
speaking, this type of union is voluntary, although sometimes it is set up by the family
members.

Japan s Culture And Its Unique Geography Essay
Japan s culture began with its unique geography as an island that is separated and
isolated from other East Asian countries. While there are many theories about modern
s Japanese ancestor; however, most Japanese archaeologists believe the first people
that lived and colonized in Japan was the Ainu. The combined evidence of
archeology, anthropology, and genetics have shown the indistinctive look between
Ainu and the modern Japanese. In their overall genetic makeup, the Ainu are related
to other East Asians, include Japanese and Koreans. The distinctive appearance and
hunter lifestyle of the Ainu, and the indistinctive appearance and the intensive
agricultural lifestyle of the Japanese have suggested that the Ainu are descended from
Japan s original hunter gatherer inhabitants (Diamond). Japan independence includes
three main dates. The most important and current constitution adopted as
amendment to Meiji Constitution date was 3 May 1947. Other notable earlier dates
include 660 B.C., traditional date of the founding of the nation by Emperor JIMMU
and 29 November 1890, date in which Meiji Constitution provides for constitutional
monarchy (Japan). The most important and major revolution in Japan s history was
the Meiji Revolution, a chain of events that restored practical imperial rule to Japan
in 1868 under Emperor Meiji. The Restoration led to enormous changes in Japan s
political and social structure. The period spanned from 1868 to 1912 and was

The Original Ending Of The Gospel Of Mark
When you open the Gospel of Mark, you will find that it does not end with the
eight sections (MK 16:1 8) of the chapter sixteen. Because there are twelve sections
(MK 16: 9 20) for the end of the Mark after that eight sections. However, some Bible
scholars believe that twelve sections are not the original ending, because its writing
style and sentences are obviously different from the Mark. This text is obviously
added to the list after Mark. Scholars believe that there are two relatively credible
reasons: First, in the early church, some of the scribes tried to make the story s
outcome more satisfactory; second, Some Biblescholars believe that the original
ending of Mark has been lost, so people tried to make up. So why the original ending
of the Mark is an omit ending?... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

St. Philomena Loved God with All Her Heart Essays
St. Philomena was born on January 10th, 291 in Greece. St. Philomena s name in
latin is Filialuminis which means daughter of light. St. Philomena s parents were
both royal from a small state in Greece. Her father was forced to have his daughter
marry emperor Diocletian. My virginity, which I have vowed to God, comes before
everything, before you, before my country. My kingdom is Heaven. St. Philomena
rejected the emperor because she made a promise to herself that her virginity
belonged to God. Because St. Philomena would not accept his hand in marriage, he
forced guards to unclothe her and whip her. Thinking her wounds were irreparable,
the guards chained her up in a dungeon, assuming she would die. Philomena

Pray to Saint Philomena. Whatever you ask from her, She will obtain for you. Pope
Gregory XVI. St. Philomena is known as The Wonder Worker because she has
listened to prayers and requests. St. Philomena can help me in my day to day life
by being an inspiration for me. She is a role model because she was abused and
killed at a young age for loving God unconditionally. She can help me in my faith
by looking up to her when i am having a hard time. St. Philomena did not give up,
even though she was tortured. I can grow in faith with the help of St. Philomena
and God by following their footsteps. I can follow their footsteps to be holy and
faithful. In addition, I can be like the both of them by resisting complaints, because
they did not complain about what they were facing throughout their struggles. I can
be loyal to my family, friends, and God just like St. Philomena was to God.
I chose St. Philomena because I relate to her since she is around my age. I also
chose her because when I was around eight years old my mom took me to a gift
shop at Our Lady Of Peace that had figurines, prayer books, bibles, rosaries,
crucifixes, and other gifts supplies. When we were there, I saw the statue of St.
Philomena and I thought she was gorgeous.
Causes Of Nursing Shortage
There are angels in the health care field that are starting to face an absence of others
to continue their work. Who are these angels and why is there a deficiency? Nurses
are a vital part of the health care team, and although there is an increased demand for
nurses, unfortunately, there is also an impending decline in the supply of nurses. In
the United States history, there have been a few instances of nursing shortages that
were overcome; however, this forthcoming dilemma seems unpromising. In the
Nursing Shortagevideo segment, The Journal of American Medical Association
predicts a shortage of registered nurses by 2020 (Where Have All the Nurses
Gone? [Video file], 2001). While nurses are crucial for the delivery of high quality
care to patients, because of a few influences a severe shortage of them is approaching
if we don t come up with solutions to this issue.
To uncover a solution to the problem, we must first understand the reasons behind
the nursing shortage. In the years following 1945 there was an increase in birth
rates, but after 1964 there was a significant decline. This generation is also known
as the baby boomers, are currently between the ages of fifty three and seventy two.
The National Council of State Boards of Nursing reports 55% of the RN workforce
is age 50 or older; the Health Resources and Services Administration projects that one
million nurses are eligible for retirement in 10 15 years (Snavely, 2016). With this
aging generation, it will put
Population Increase and Sustainability Issues Essay
Sustainability issues go hand in hand with increases in population, urban sprawl .
Phoenix continues to see an increase in population growth and thus a sustainability
issue that has arisen from such growth is traffic congestion. Having too many cars
on the road, cars traveling at lower speeds, and having longer trip times then in
previous years causes traffic congestion (Frias, 2007). Traffic congestion in
Phoenix is observed from a local spatial scale as Phoenix is composed of many
suburbs. It is important to look at the history of this problem, as it seems to go hand
in hand with urban sprawl. The more spread out Phoenix has become; the more
traffic congestion seems to prevail (Frias, 2007). From 1982 to 1999 traffic congestion
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Characteristic 2: Undefined Solution For traffic congestion there is no one definite
solution. There are many options that can help solve or alleviate this problem. One
potential solution could be the expansion of the light rail system. Another could be
developing toll roads, or creating a bus only lane, and adding more buses to the
current transportation system. A tax incentive could be used to help encourage those
to use alternative means of transportation, or an overwhelming increase in gas prices
could be other options. Regardless of the solution used all stakeholders would not be
completely satisfied with the option chosen.
Characteristic 3: No End Point If one of the solutions previously mentioned were
to be implemented, new problems would arise. If Phoenix were to expand the light
rail system to cover more areas, local businesses would be affected by the
construction and may not survive, as was the case when the light rail was first
constructed (Frias, 2007). Economically the light rail could be bad for local
businesses, and could result in job losses for some. Another potential problem from
expanding the light rail could be the hike in taxes for residents that would surely
come to meet the cost of expansion construction. Fewer cars on the road would affect
the automobile sector, as mechanics, and car dealers would see less business as well.
Characteristic 4: Irreversible If a solution such as a greater expansion of the light rail
Communication Is Fundamental For Forming Human
Relationships
Communication is fundamental for forming human relationships and those
relationships are formed by effective communication. Everyday we share
information and knowledge with our families, friends, coworkers, and sometimes
create new relationships with strangers. People communicate with one another to
express their thoughts and emotions, and as a result, helps us to understand the
ideas and feelings of others. In Season 2, Episode 14 of the comedy The Real O

Brett. Valentine s Day is coming soon and Kenny becomes over dramatic about

The next example of verbal communication that is used in the scene is equivocation.
Equivocal language requires using words that have broad meanings that can be
interpreted a number of ways as well as help us out of an uncomfortable situation
(O Hair, Wiemann, Mullin, Teven, 2015, p.74). Jimmy gives Kenny the
reinforcemnt he needs to walk through the doors of the Lonely Hearts club and that
everything will be okay. However, when he enters the room, the club is decorated
with red balloons and hearts everywhere. Jimmy immediately tries to right the
situation by saying, It s not a big deal, its just a bunch of balloons (Sudduth, 2017).
His dad continues to join in on the conversation trying to make light of the situation
by telling Kenny to just think of it as Heart Disease Awareness week. But everything
they tell Kenny only reminded him of his past memories with Brett, the ex
boyfriend. Jimmy continues to change the subject by showing Kenny how the heart
balloons take on different shapes. Turn it upside down, it s a butt. Turn it out,
boobies!, says Jimmy (Sudduth, 2017). His brother tells him there is more fish in
the sea (Sudduth, 2017). But Kenny is reminded that fish is Brett s favorite food and
the sea is his favorite place. It is obvious that Jimmy and dad, Pat want to keep Kenny
happy without experiencing a meltdown and ruin their night. They both use equivocal

Creating and Maintaining an Effective Learning Environment in the Classroom
Patrosinia Morales
Description
This classroom investigation started on January 2016 and took place at Harvest
Elementary in Central Unified in a 4th grade classroom. During the time of the
investigation I was able to experience small group and whole class instruction and
interaction. Each experience taught me something in regards to the California
Standard for the Teaching Profession (CSTP) 2: Creating and Maintaining Effective
Environments for Student Learning. From the many experiences I have had in
creating and maintaining an effective learning environment, I chose to focus on a
math lesson I instructed.
Summary
The math lesson was focused on content standard 1.4. The learning goal was for
students to understand and use formulas to solve problems involving perimeters and
areas of rectangles and squares. They also had to use formulas to find the areas of
more complex figures by dividing the figures into basic shapes. During the math
lesson students were using their 4th grade math book and a journal to take notes. I
provided students with notes, visuals of complex shapes, examples through the use of
an Elmo, independent practice, and an activity for them to find the area and perimeter
of their name using graph paper.

Pillowman Analysis
In Pillowman I was the Assistant director, so is my point of view as the assistant
director for Pillowman. First thing I quickly found out was the roles of the leads
who are two brothers were to be played by women. At first I did not know that
could work out, because of how the playwright specifically mentioned two brothers.
As I read through the script, I would wondered how challenging it was going to be
for Katurian one of the leads to take the brutal beatings. These are such brutal
beatings that the detectives would be giving Katurian; everything from kicking to
choking. When we received the scripts, and had our read through. I noticed that all
the directions were crossed out. So we blocked the entire show by the words, and
sightlines. Which again led me to believe how okay that was with the playwright....

I would have a lot of discussions with the director about if people would
understand some words. I believe the greatest challenge we had with Pillowman
was how real we could make the show. The text in this play is shocking, and eerie,
so we wanted to stick to that. Even though there are a lot of harsh parts in
Pillowman like, abuse on women and children, blood, even a crucifixion. This is
theatre. So I want the audience to leave the show with their emotions moved. So a
week before have the stage and blocking set; we started getting professors coming in
telling us that we can t do this or that. (Spoiler) In the text Katurian gets shot in the
head by the detective with a

The Psychological Effects Of Smoking
One thing that smoking affects that a lot of people do not think about is how it
affects the people around the smoker, not only in a physical way but emotionally
also. According to a study, kids whose parents smoke are three times more likely to
smoke when they get older. If smokers have kids, smoking around them increases
their risk of having ear infections, asthma and other breathing problems that include
coughs, shortness of breath, and even bronchitis. It s not just children that are at risk
of lung and heart problems, it s every person around a smoker that are put at risk due
to secondhand smoke. Secondhand smoke contains over 7,000 chemicals. Hundreds
of them being toxic and 70 have shown to cause cancerin humans. Breathing in
secondhand smoke has been shown to have instant effects on the cardiovascular
system of nearby individuals, whether it s from a neighbor s burning cigaretteor from
a cigarette outside your window. Over time, it takes a toll on people s lungs and
has been found to increase the risk of having a stroke by 20 30% (Quitterscircle).
Smoking also has an impact on pets and animals. Exposure to secondhand smoke
for dogs increases the risk of them getting lung cancer and nasal cancer, especially
long nosed dogs like greyhounds. Cats that are exposed to secondhand smoke are
more than three times as likely to non Hodgkin s lymphoma. They may also suffer
from asthma or lung cancer. Secondhand smoke can also affect the eyesight of birds

Two Opposing Powers
I recently read two articles concerning the topics of science and religion. Chet
Raymo, author of Miracles and Explanations, offers insight on how science and
religion are closely related while David Ludden, author of Teaching Evolution at a
Christian College , declares that science and religion are too contradicting from one
another and that people are unwilling to open their minds to new ideas once they
have established their beliefs (Raymo Ludden, 2011). This is a topic that has had
controversy surrounding it for an innumerable amount of years dating back to ancient
times when the Catholic Church ruled Europe to present times where we have to
decide if we want our children learning about Darwin s theory of evolution because it

Mr. Ludden closes by stating one strategy science teachers use to capture the interest
of their students. He uses the analogy of a drug pusher giving away drugs for free
until the client is hooked and then starts charging them for more. He states that this
method doesn t work because science doesn t produce the high religion does and that
at the end of the day it is up to the student to decide whether they want to
accommodate science with their faith (Raymo Ludden, 2011, p. 702 704). Mr.
Raymo uses a Rogerian style in his writing because he is trying to build common
ground in his argument. He starts by talking about miracles and how we are taught
fake stories when we are young. This is something majority of people can relate to.
Then he explains how as we get older we acknowledge these miracles as lies
because we disprove them scientifically. He also mentions that the concepts of
science are miracles and based on that scientists form theories. So far his reasoning
is logical. This helps his argument because more people will appeal to logical
reasoning. He also provides strong evidence of religion and science working
together when he writes about the experiment done on the Shroud of Turin. The
Church officials allowed three distinct labs to use carbon dating to discover the age
of the cloth. The findings were supported by the Church, and Pope John Paul II went
on to speak of the relationship of science and religion,

The Liberalism Of Fear By Judith Shklar
We live in a society were they may be times were anything can happen, with terrorist
organizations, and social justice issues causing uproar. While we have still problems
to work on as citizens, the government we live upon continues to create new
restrictions which restore fear into some citizens. Liberalism has been rare in the
practice and theory in the last two hundred years. But as a state that lives off of
liberal values, the struggle for equality still continues. In the essay The Liberalismof
Fear , philosopher Judith Shklar focuses on developing the definition of political
liberalism, by means of discovering the role that cruelty plays in political and social
life. There are many primary issues in the Liberalism of Fear that I must addressed.
Also I shalll expound on her arguments surrounding the fear of tyranny, fear of abuse
and how it makes a distinct connection to our reality now.
Before we expound on the fundamental attributes of the liberalism of fear, one must
first comprehend what the word liberalism , actually means. Liberalism has only
one aim; to secure the political conditions that are necessary for the exercise of
personal freedom. The liberalism of fear addresses an important human
need:freedom from actual fear. Every person should be able to make as many
effective decisions without fear or favor of anything, as is compatible with the like
of freedom of every other adult. But the most important part of the whole aspect of
liberalism is not so much

section of the Critique of Pure Reason does not play a purely negative role; instead, it

other words, they are related to the transcendental premises of possible experience,
that is, to infinite and unconditioned pure notions unattainable through

Salutary Neglect In America
Salutary Neglect Between 1690 and 1760, the colonist went to little problems from
the British. Salutary Neglect was an idea which could be beneficial to the colonies.
The concept of this idea was that America could experience self government and
people could make their own rules. The Salutary Neglect make the colonies violate
the Navigation Act and allowed the colonies to feel being independent. The colonies
had their own legislatures which made their own laws.
Proclamation of 1763 was ordered on October 9,1763 by King George III, which was
after Britain obtained French territory in America. The job was to create a newly
gained territory in America and get a better relationship between the natives and the
Europeans. They achieve this goal by regulating trade, settlement and buying land on
the western frontier. The colonist thought that if they had fought a war to defend the
land makes it theirs. The British wanted the colonist to maintain control of the land.
The colonist used to move west of the proclamation line as a form of rebellions that
foreshadowed the American Revolution.

Weapons of Influence in the Fast Casual Restaurant Industry
The fast casual restaurant industry is a relatively fresh concept that is growing
quickly between fast food and casual dining options. Fast casual is becoming a
popular choice for many individuals and families since it still offers relatively
quick, inexpensive food with more customization and higher quality options. It is
also a preferred choice as compared to fast food since many individuals are striving
to eat more nutritious foods and live a healthier lifestyle. Since ... Show more content

However, there are many other strategies that marketing managers could take
advantage of to start influencing their customers to a greater extent.
A new way reciprocity can be implemented in the restaurant industry is by sending
out flyers on the web, via email and social media. Under this system, when
customers walk into the restaurant with the flyer, they will be given a free menu
item, such as a free drink or side. This again would draw customers into the
restaurant for the free item and typically cause the customer to purchase extra food to
go along with their free item .
Social Proof
The greatest evidence of social proof within the entire restaurant industry is the use
of review sites such as Urbanspoon, Yelp, etc. These sites use credibility of the
masses to reassure someone that others also tried and liked this restaurant. Chipotle
is the king of the fast casual restaurant industry when it comes to the utilization of
the social proof weapon. An example is their line layout. By ensuring that lines are
always visible from the door, the principle of social proof is at work; if multiple
people are in line for Chipotle, it must be worth buying.
Though the Werther effect is based upon the idea that publicizing a suicide increases

Analysis Of Never Give All The Heart
William Butler Yeats Never Give All The Heart is about vulnerability, love, and
blame. It warns of both the fickleness of women and that if one loves in an
overbearing manner it will actually be detrimental. Yeats personal inspiration for the
poem was likely Maud Gonne, a woman whom he proposed to four times, who
rejected him all four times and then proceeded to marry someone else. The poem
begins in a manner suggestive of a lover scorned. Yeats talks about how passionate
women, which at this point in time is not necessarily a compliment, don t consider
lovethat is a sure thing worth their time and energy. Essentially it is a poetized
version of the Nice guys finish last argument, along with the idea that people only
desire what... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yeats also uses the word dumb, which in context likely means unable to speak, but
also carries a connotation of being incapable of intelligent thought. Entering a heart
into the game of love will damage the heart s owner on multiple levels. Yeats then
references himself, as he who has already given his heart up to the game and lost
miserably. He knows the pain and the loss that giving up one s heart to someone who
does not want the whole heart brings. In fact, he was later quoted as saying, [about
his first marriage proposal] that was when the troubling in my life began. He gave his
whole heart to this woman and she didn t want it. Now, to his credit, Yeats isn t
saying giving any heart is terrible. He is simply stating that giving the entirety of
one s heart is more likely to come off as overeager and overbearing than romantic.
Towards the end of the poem, he isn t blaming the woman as much, he is accepting
the gamble that love is.
The structure of this poem is rather notable. It mimics the structure of a Clare sonnet,
fourteen lines, iambic pentameter, AABBCCDDEEFFGG rhyme scheme. Both
Italian and Shakespearean sonnets tended to be love poems. However, the Clare
sonnet doesn t quite fit properly with either, it s a touch more simplistic in nature,
which lends this poem something akin to irony. This poem isn t simply a love poem,
it s poem about the frustration of love along with being a cautionary tale. It has a more
A Brief Look at William Byrd
While researching the style period the Renaissance, I came about the composer
William Byrd. He played a large role in the paper I instructed and thus caught my
attention. I chose William Bryd as the subject for this paper merely because
according to The Top 8 Renaissance Composer Article by Aaron Green, he was
considered by many to be a genius on the keyboard and perhaps the greatest English
composer of all time. Other aspect about William Bryd I found interesting was his
interact with Queen Elizabeth I and Thomas Tallis, and this major works like Latin
motets or Cantiones Sacrae along with many more.
William Byrd s early life is unknown; He is believed to have been born in London
sometime between 1539 and 1545. The exact date is unclear. He was one of seven
children. He had four sisters, Alice, Barbara, Mary, and Martha and two brothers,
Simon and John. His parents were Thomas and Margery Byrd. There is no written
record of William Byrd s education, however he was a well educated man, able to
read and write very well in this time. William married in 1568 to a Juliana. They then
had seven children and a lifelong happy marriage. He eventually after a strong career
as a composer or chorister died on July 4th 1623 in a small village of Essex and was
buried in an unmarked grave. William was a top composer in the Renaissance era
and composed a large number of astounding musical pieces. Many believe that
William Byrd outdid any other composers of his era and called him a
The Beauty Myth, By Naomi Wolf
THE TRUTH BEHIND BEAUTY
As a woman, have you ever faced a mirror, gazed at your reflection and scrutinized
the craters on your face, the excess flab in your stomach, the scars on your legs?
Did you recognize yourself, or did your reflection show you a stranger a monster?
Did you turn green in jealousy when you turned the television on or rummaged
through the magazines glossy pages as you stared at the flawless and picture perfect
models?
On the other hand, if you are a man, have you ever fixed your eyes longingly to
some lady and mumbled to yourself, Wow, she is beautiful ?
Women of today are fortunate because they are recognized and are more powerful
compared to what they have to go through years ago. They are empowered and
successful because they fought for their rights. However, writer and feminist Naomi
Wolf, author of The Beauty Myth: How Images of Beauty Are Used Against Women,
is troubled. Her nonfiction book states that as women gain social power and
prominence, they are expected to conform to society s impossible standards of
physical beauty. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Betty Friedan, a feminist just like Wolf, wrote in Allure magazine that The Beauty
Myth and the controversy it is eliciting could be a hopeful sign of a new surge of
feminist consciousness.
Women of all ages who belong to all walks of life have one thing in common: they
tend to live up to society s definition of beauty. They fear aging and are conscious
about their complexion, height, and weight, among
William Shakespeare s World Masterpieces
Today each person has their own story to be told. All of us come from different
backgrounds and have circumstances we are living through. Each of has different
type of person we wish to rely on. As a result of this there are no set standards as to
whom we are to date and even marry and why. Instead, it s a matter of whom each
person chooses. Miguel De Cervantes, understood this at a time, the 1600 s, where
this idea of lovewas not normal. Back then to marry for love was considered
foolish. Traditionally 16th century love was depicted as Chivalry Romance. This
means that it was to be arranged marriages between those of equal status or class as
the norm. Back then love was seen as a perfect and pure concept. Cervantes did not
agree with this and challenged and mocked it in his writings. As stated by Maynard
Mack in his book, World Masterpieces, The actual method [Cervantes] followed in
order to expose the silliness of the romances of chivalry was to show to what
extraordinary consequences they would lead a man insanely infatuated in them.. .
Due to this type of thinking, Cervantes in his novel, Don Quixote, portrays love in a
nontraditional way, as a mysterious force that draws lovers together. Many of the
tales of courtship told in Don Quixote are driven by the force of love. The tale of
Quiteria and Basilio is a great example of this. In this tale, Basilio and Quiteria are
next door neighbors in the same village. Basilio falls in love with Quiteria at
Ishmael And The Carpenter As A Life Buod
The imagery suggests that the mother, who is the carpenter, gives life to her child,
the coffin. Ahab referred to the carpenter as Prometheus, a titan, a silkworm
spinning its own shroud out of itself (Leiter 1958). This, I think is Melville s way of
connecting the coffin s obvious meaning of death to life. The carpenter as
Prometheus symbolizes God who gives birth or in other words life to death. The
coffin then acts as a life buoy for Ishmael specifically, when it carries him over to
safety at the end of the novel. Ishmael and the coffin, both tossed up by the Pequod
rigged out like a whale also like Job by the Whale of God, become Prophets who
deliver the message of God to the world (Leiter 1958). In a way then, the coffin
also symbolizes the universe, man, his life, and his death. It is a symbol of the fate
of man here on this earth. Ishmael is saved because he unlike Ahab, whose view of
the condition of man is so monolithic and pretty much insane has reached a state not
only of understanding man s role in the universe, but he has also achieved
acceptance of that role. Wedded to Ishmael earlier in the novel, Queequeg points the
way to sanity, neither through destructive internal questioning, nor through
acceptance of religious prophecies, but by what he is. After meeting his other half
in Peter Coffin s inn, which is decked out like a whale, Ishmael says, As I sat there
in that lonely room...I began to be sensible of strange feelings. I felt a melting in me.

Why I Am A University Library
Until recently, I had no idea that there was a such thing as a Young Adult Librarian.
I had assumed that teaching would be the only job that would allow me to talk
about books and share my love of books with young adults; but then, one day I
happened to stumble upon a blog ran by someone who was sharing her experience as
a Young Adult Librarianand I knew instantly that I had found what I wanted to do
with my life. At this point, I started looking around for ways to be involved with my
university library, just so I could have a taste of what it was like to work in a library
setting. Since it is a university library, I knew that my opportunity to deal with
anything young adult would be pretty much non existent, so I decided to just use
the opportunity to learn whatever I possibly could about librarianship. I spent the
semester working with Collection Management and the Interlibrary Loan office and
I learned a little about the inner workings of those two areas, and a little about what
it meant to be a librarian. I still have my heart set on being a Young Adult Librarian
in the end, and I know without a doubt that a career as a librarian is right for me.
It is important to realize that being a young adult can be difficult, there are so many
new experiences and responsibilities that come with those years and it can be
overwhelming for many. I want to become a Young Adult Librarian so I can not only
be in a position to, but also know how to best help young adults navigate
The Exodus
Exodus
IntroductionThe Greek word, exodus means departure. The Exodus is the Israelite
departure from Egypt under the leadership of Moses, and the subsequent journey
through the Sinai wilderness.[1]
The biblical Exodus account has been understood on a number of different levels.[2]
Historically, the Exodus represents the process of Israelite s slavery under a Egyptian
pharaoh, followed by their freedom flight from Egypt to the promised land, Canaan.
Theologically the Exodus implicates important themes: divine promise and
fulfillment of it, eternal covenant, human suffering and redemption. Paradigmatically,
the Exodus provides the powerful image of the archetype for all subsequent
redemption and liberation experiences, it has become ... Show more content on

вЃ As a result, ten plagues were brought upon the country (Exod. 7:14 12:36) .
Exodus 7:14 12:36 records ten plagues. However Ps. 78:43 51 and 105:27 36
describes only seven plagues. Josephus records nine plagues.[20]вЃ It might be the
palmist and Josephus rewrote the ten plague story in their own theological purpose.
Exodus 13:17 18:27 describes the scene the departure from Egypt and the journey to
Sinai. Moses led Israel from Succoth to Ehtam, then toward Pi haniroth, where they
camped along the shoreline opposite a site called Baal zephon.[21] The body of

climactic event of the Exodus took place here.

fighting men at 603,550. However more recent study calculates 5,000 males and a
total population of 20,000.[22]вЃ
вЃ After crossing the yam sup, they went into the wildness (Exod. 15:22). Scholars
cannot undertake to reconstruct the details of Israel s wanderings in the

Mcelwain Argumentative Analysis
Stricklin said the sides reached an agreement in principle to settle McElwain s
$12.5 million buyout, but he declined to reveal details until the deal is signed. This
is more than just wins and losses, Stricklin said. I ll just leave it at that. Florida (3

Muschamp, hoped to significantly reduce McElwain s sum and likely used his
actions over the last week as leverage. Regardless, McElwain s tenure will be

Residential Schools And The Lasting Effects Of
Colonialism...
Residential Schools and the Lasting Impacts of Colonialism For many people
Canada is regarded as one of the most peaceful and racially sensitive nations on the
Earth and would never relate to a term such as cultural genocide . But, unfortunately
Canada has a much darker past then what people believe of it, stemming from
colonial violence that still has lasting impacts today. Like many nations England
colonialized the native people were severely affected and many died due to the
forceful takeover of land from the colonialists. One specific impact that still affects
First nationsin Canada today was the cultural genocide that took place in residential
schools. By examining Doug Saunders article Residential Schools, Reserves, and
Canada`s Crime Against Humanity I hope to outline the societal and cultural impacts
that the residential schools had on the First Nations people and what the Canadian
government is doing to rectify the wrongs they committed in the past while working
towards a more progressive and co operative future. Saunders main argument in the
article can be summarized as addressing residential schools as a genocidal act
comparable to others such as the genocide of the Armenian people at the hands of the
Ottoman`s, and Canadians accepting this fact no matter how shameful it may be.
Saunders first does this by supply some information on the scale of residential
schools. Starting in the 1870`s up until recently in 1996 approximately 150,000 First

  • 2. Good to Great Essay Good to Great Book Review To transform a good company to great company is all manages dream, but only few of them make it. To find out the core factors which lead to a good company became a great company is very difficult, because in different era, different industry companies face different opportunities and threats. To begin the research for the Good to Great study, Jim Collins and his research team searched for companies that: performed at or below the general stock market for at least fifteen years; then at a transition point began to pull away from the competition, and sustained returns of at least 3 times the general market for the next fifteen years. He started with a list of 1,435 companies and found eleven that met his criteria. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the same time, Wells Fargo recruited talented people into the companywithout any specific job, because the CEO believed that these smart people could help company to face and deal with the future changes and difficulties (Collins, 2001, p.42). Well Fargo is easy to adapt to a changing world when banking deregulation arrived. Moreover, Wells Fargo went three times higher than general stock market which the banking fell 59 percent behind. CEO of Wells Fargo, Dick Cooley a level 5 leader, understand three simple truths. First, if you begin with who, rather than what, you can more easily adapt to a changing world. Second, if you have the right people on the bus, there are no problem to motivate and manage people goes. Right people are self motivated by the inner drive to produce the best results, and right people don t need to be tightly managed, they know what they should or should not do. Third, if you have the wrong people on the bus, you won t get to the place where you want to go, whatever how hard to motivate and manage them. Right people are the most important asset in the company. Right people can turn a nearly bankruptcy company to Fortune 500 company. The third reason why good to great companies outperform, is they do not cover up the bad news (confront the brutal facts). Nobody likes to hear the bad news, but we have to facing it and take reaction about it. Furthermore all good to great

As Mankind continues to advance it is pursuit of knowledge, it is faced with myriad dilemmas, particularly in the cases of cloning, stem cell experimentation, and the genetic sequencing of viruses and pathogens. The academic article Bioterrorism, Embryonic Stem Cells, and Frankenstein written by Patrick Guinan, discusses the morality and potential hubris of sciences continued exploration of seemingly forbidden areas, as well as humanities identity and potential desire to achieve knowledge to rival God. Guinan s research aims to explore, question, and ultimately bring light to the potential issues that may arise from such pursuits. This research raises several questions, as well as causes of concern, which will all be addressed in this essay. The author of this article makes use of intelligent analysis, evidence from ages both recent and ancient, and well thought out discourse, in order to cause readers to consider just what ethics and morality is to science, as well as what it is to our identity as humanity as a whole. It is important to understand the references to history that the author uses, in order to properly read and understand this articles intentions. First the author references the anthraxattack carried out by terrorists in 2001. These attacks consisted of letters with anthrax spores inside of them, which were then mailed different news offices and the offices of two U.S. Senators. The attacks killed five people and infected nearly 20 others. Guinan s
  • 5. Problems Within Education Today s Education Essay Problems Within Education Today For my extra credit assignment I would like to research, and write about the problems in education today. According to chapter eight in the book, worldwide one in five adults can not read or write, two thirds of them being women. The problems we are facing in education can be linked to other social problems such as poverty or unemployment, seeing that those who graduate college make up twenty percent of the unemployment rate, compared to the forty percent of the unemployment rate in people with less than a high school degree. Another issue facing education is the inequality of schools and school districts. School districts with a lower socioeconomic status must spend more money on things like maintaining the school. Thus, leaving less money to spend on bettering the education of the children, which in turn leads to higher rates of drop outs, and lower rates of college attendance. Therefore, leaving them more likely to be unemployed or live in poverty. Finally, another major problem facing the American education system is the lack of financial support. One survey revealed that the most common thing to happen due to budget cuts is to increase the class size, which has been directly correlated with poorer academic achievement. The problems facing education are plentiful, most of which are grounded in financial woes. These effects can be devastating to the lives of the children it affects or society as a whole, due to the statistics correlating
  • 6. The Scottsboro Boys And The Great Depression On March 25, 1931, With the Great Depression gripping the nation after the stock market crash of 1929, people jumped on to freight trains to travel from one city to another city in hope to search for work. A group of whites and a group of blacks who are later called the Scottsboro boys got in a fight on a train. The Scottsboro boyswere defending themselves and they kicked the white group off in Jackson County. Then, two women who were on the train were trying to avoid arrest therefore falsely accused the nine black youths (who range from the age of thirteen to nineteen years old) of raping them. The Scottsboro boys were then arrested with assault and rape charges added against all nine of them after the allegations were made by Victoria Price and Ruby Bates. It was a rousing allegation in the Jim Crow South, where many whites were attempting to maintain power just 66 years after the end of the Civil War. On April 6, 1931, Trials begin in Scottsboro before Judge A. E. Hawkins. On April 9, a judge sentenced the eight convicted defendants: Clarence Norris, Charlie Weems, Haywood Patterson, Olen Montgomery, Ozie Powell, Willie Roberson, Eugene Williams, and Andy Wright; are sentenced to death by electrocution. He declared a mistrial in the case of the youngest defendant, thirteen year old Roy Wright ends in a mistrial, after seven jurors insisted on the death penalty even though the prosecution asked for life imprisonment. The cross examination of Victoria Price lasted
  • 7. Romanesque-Byzantine Basilica On March 4, 2017, I visited the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington D.C. The shrine honors the Blessed Virgin Mary as the Immaculate Conception, the prominent patroness of the United States. Also, the construction of the building is notable for its Romanesque Byzantine architecture, which began in 1920 under Philadelphia contractor John Mcshain. Although the shrine is known for containing a plethora of art, this essay will describe, interpret, and aesthetically judge two particular forms: Christ in Majesty , a 3,600 square foot mosaic that dominates the space above the altar of the great upper church, and the overall Romanesque Byzantine architecture of the structure. Christ the Majesty , considered... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It portrays Christ as judging the world by fire, which is similar to 1 Corinthians 3:13, each one s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. Also, while looking closely at Christ s face, I realized that his right eyebrow is more arched and peaceful, while the one on the left is angled downward and severe. This technique of showing the Justice and Mercy of God on the face of Christ is commonly used in the Eastern Churches. In addition, this technique correlates with a verse in the Old Testament which says, On the Day of Judgement there will be mercy seen by those who have shown mercy and severe justice to those who have been severe. Furthermore, it is significant that Christ is portrayed as being strong and powerful, reiterating his role on the Day of Judgement. In contrast, the architecture of the church seems to depict what is described Romanesque Byzantine architecture. Romanesque architecture is defined by its massive size, thick walls, arches, piers, groin vaults, towers, and ornamented ambulatories. On the other hand, Byzantine architecture is dominated by high domes with the utilization of pendentives for support. The shrine is a composite of a Romanesque exterior and a Byzantine

He finds pieces of newspapers with the words TERIFFIC and RADIANT . Wilbur is taken to the county fair and Charlotte decides to go with him. The next morning, the word HUMBLE was found in the web. Zuckerman s famous pig wins him some money and is now safe from harm. The next morning, Charlotte dies and Wilbur brings her egg sac home with him and waits until they hatch. Many spider babies come out of the sac, but three of them stay and become friends with Wilbur. In the end, Wilbur comes to the conclusion that Charlotte has a special place in his heart that none of her babies, or grandbabies will ever be able to fill. Don Marquis was the man who gave him the idea for Charlotte s Web (Levin 432). White described this book, about a spider who saves a pig s life by helping make it a tourist attraction (Love 370). It was so popular, White said it had kept me alive, been my bread and butter (Love 370). There are many symbols that can be found in the book. For example, it appears that a spider s web is very weak and fragile, but in this book, it holds many strong words that saved Wilbur s life. It is also noticed that

Particularly, one cannot deny the fact that South Asian security is directly associated with the relations between the two significant South Asian states i.e. India and Pakistan. The Issue of security dates back to 1947 when the sub continent was divided between India and Pakistan. So the division created the problems of land dispute between two countries including Kashmir, Siacheen and Sir Creek. The geographical division also created water dispute between two countries because of handing over Ferozpur headwork to India that led to India s control of water. This situation was later on resolved by World Bank through Indus Basin Treaty through which the two western rivers were given to India and Pakistan was given a specific Share in water of Indus. Now that share of water is being disputed by India. The two South Asian neighboring countries Pakistan and India have a unmitigated record of tensions for number of assorted issues including Kashmir dispute, cross border terrorist activities,

He was an Austrian neurologist and was better known as the founder of psychoanalysis (1856 1939). Psychoanalysis can be defined as a set of psychological theories which includes the Freudian slip theory. When interpreting the word potted lies at the intersection of several associations: it starts with the letter p , it has two syllables, it fits into the sentence and it has to do with the roommate problem. So the word potted was used and applied it on my roommate

The Marketing Strategy Of Whirlpool Corporation In the United States, the cooking industry is a mature market with high penetration, therefore, replacement product is significantly important to the industry. The United States has three major manufacturers for domestic production; Whirlpool, General Electric, and Electrolux. The appliance industry is changing and become more competitive with the influence of Asian competitors, specifically, LG and Samsung is importing appliances into the United States. Subsequently, in January 2016, a Chinese manufacturer, Haier, bid for the purchase of General Electric Appliances, finalizing the contract, Monday, June 6, 2016 (Thompson, 2016). Whirlpool Corporation is the largest global manufacturer of home appliances (Innovation at the Pace of Life, 2016). Although, Whirlpool is globally the largest manufacturer, they do not dominate all markets, as they do in North America. In North America, Whirlpool s strength lies in a strong and vast brand portfolio, consisting of seven brands (Fettig, 2016). In 2006, the United States Department of Justice approved the acquisition of Maytag Corporation by Whirlpool (Henriques, 2006). The acquisition served a two fold purpose, seating Whirlpool in the number one market share position in North America and adding strong brands such as Maytag, Jenn Air, and Amana to the portfolio. • 12. Raymond Carver Cathedral Analysis Blind to the Blind To be imaginative is to be a child. As a person ages, he is expected to mature into adulthood and to live in the real world. He is expected to abandon his childhood dreams and cultivate practicality and factuality. However, imaginations are not limited to unicorns and dragons; it is a skill a person must nurture to realize his dreams and desires. To be imaginative is to be a visionary. Without a vision, a person lacks the sight for compassion, curiosity, and self consciousness. In this sense, imagination is not only to think outside the box, but also to search deeper inside. In the short story, Cathedral by Raymond Carver, Carver develops the idea that a lack of imagination limits a person to the physical and visible world which leads to the blindness to the abstract world and rejection of the uncertain future. It is when a person opens his eyes to the unseen that he can create emotional connection with others and discover the profound truth inside himself. The narrator s lack of imagination leads him to reject what is beyond his visual perception. The narrator looks at his surroundings plainly as they are and therefore fails to see the deeper meanings behind it. Throughout the story, the narrator is watching television, which symbolizes his narrow perspective and his failure to observe the world on his own. His idea of blindness came from the movies (Carver 315) and this preconceived notion results in his unenthusiastic attitude towards Robert before

Cultural capital is a way that people within any culture distinguish themselves from people from outside the culture, and it typically also involves judgments of value, worth, or character. Regardless of Terrell s skills, mannerisms, and credentials he doesn t mind sacrificing the relationships acquired through being part of the professional football world. Terrell thought very highly of himself sharing the same passion for football as his teammates and opponents he created a sense of identity and belonging. However, putting a lot effort into presenting himself as a unique player worthy of being sought after in the NFL, Terrell acts as though he has knowledge that confers power and status. Failing to realize that he helped hinder his own social mobility and ultimately his income and wealth, he can only blame himself and not the media. The media portrays Terrell Owensas an athlete that does not deserve to be in the Hall of Fame but this is because of his own actions and personality. Terrell should accept responsibility for how he presents himself to his fans and the commentators. For example, Owens said the Eagles showed a lack of class by not publicly acknowledging his 100th career touchdown

Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo was an influential man from California who unlike Vigil y Alarid, was in support of Americans coming to California. He thought that it would be strong, positive and economically smart to develop unoccupied lands. But what he did not realize was that the Americans were not interested in adapting to the culture of Mexicans. They wanted the Mexicans to adapt to the Anglo ways of life. On June 14, 1846 a group of 35 or so American men led by John C. Fremont invaded Sonoma expecting to go to war with the Mexicans but found nothing but a sleeping town (Padilla, 53). Vallejo writes Doubtless God had decreed that June 1846 was to be the blackest month of my life (Padilla, 53). The Americans that Vallejo had befriended had turned against him: ...who seems to have struck a bargain with the devil: he had been friendly toward the same American immigrants who were now about to seize him as a prisoner of war (Padilla, 54). The irony was there was no war in Sonoma at the Bear Flag Revolt but because of this
  • 15. Justification Of The Atomic Bomb On 6 August 1945 the Enola Gay, a B 29 bomber, dropped the first atomic bomb to be used in actual combat on Hiroshima, Japan. The aftermath of this single bomb was over 130,000 dead and wounded. The skyline of Hiroshima was almost completely leveled. This caught the Japanese completely off guard. This as well as the bombing of Nagasaki three days later led to the final and unconditional surrender of the Japanese Empire and the end to World War II. The end result of these bombings outweighed the alternative of invading the Japanese mainland instead of unleashing atomic weapons on the Japanese by a great deal. The months and years that lead up to this massive blow against the Japanese were full of heated debates and arguments on the moral implications of using an atomic weapon against a civilian target. At the time the Japanese were running rampant in the Pacific and our nation was fighting a three front war: one front in the Pacific, one front in Europe, and the final front in North Africa. This placed a great deal of strain on our wartime resources, the tactic of Island Hopping was becoming successful but the amount of manpower being needed for the other two fronts meant that the Pacific front was not able to become a top priority. The Manhattan Project had been underway since 1942 as a last resort option. The Manhattan Project was of the utmost importance and conducted with the highest levels of security possible. The Advantageous Of Petrodollar And Islamic Finance... 3.7.The advantageous of Petrodollar to Islamic Finance Petrodollar flows have been among the major factors supporting the growth of the Islamic finance industry ever since the 1960s GIFF (2010). The rising petrodollar flows in global markets imply continued and increasing petrodollar investments in the Islamic finance sector. This has led to a surge of interest in the Islamic Finance sector, with more and more countries positioning themselves as strategic locations to tap into part of this abundant pool of funds. For instance, a number of countries worldwide have announced their plans to issue Sukuk (Islamic bonds) and thus meet their financing needs by attracting high net worth investors (HNWIs) and wealth from the Middle East region. HNWIs are particularly on the look out for efficient and secure jurisdictions for investing their funds, more so in the context of the present economic downturn . Operating in a facilitative business environment and reducing cost of operations are deemed instrumental factors for market players. The Difficult Transition from Duvalierism to Democracy in Haiti Haiti has historically been the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere, suffering from mismanagement of resources and corrupt rule by the elites. The rule of the Duvaliers had concentrated the wealth of the state in the Duvalier family and its political allies, the Duvalierists. This had been the way Haiti was always run since its independence in 1804: the wealthy, French speaking elite ruling as an oligarchy or dictatorship over the poor, Creole speaking masses. Nurses are a vital part of the health care team, and although there is an increased demand for nurses, unfortunately, there is also an impending decline in the supply of nurses. In the United States history, there have been a few instances of nursing shortages that were overcome; however, this forthcoming dilemma seems unpromising. In the Nursing Shortagevideo segment, The Journal of American Medical Association predicts a shortage of registered nurses by 2020 (Where Have All the Nurses Gone? [Video file], 2001). While nurses are crucial for the delivery of high quality care to patients, because of a few influences a severe shortage of them is approaching if we don t come up with solutions to this issue. Having too many cars on the road, cars traveling at lower speeds, and having longer trip times then in previous years causes traffic congestion (Frias, 2007). Traffic congestion in Phoenix is observed from a local spatial scale as Phoenix is composed of many suburbs. It is important to look at the history of this problem, as it seems to go hand in hand with urban sprawl. Characteristic 2: Undefined Solution For traffic congestion there is no one definite solution. There are many options that can help solve or alleviate this problem. One potential solution could be the expansion of the light rail system. Another could be developing toll roads, or creating a bus only lane, and adding more buses to the current transportation system. A tax incentive could be used to help encourage those to use alternative means of transportation, or an overwhelming increase in gas prices could be other options. Regardless of the solution used all stakeholders would not be completely satisfied with the option chosen. Characteristic 3: No End Point If one of the solutions previously mentioned were to be implemented, new problems would arise. If Phoenix were to expand the light rail system to cover more areas, local businesses would be affected by the construction and may not survive, as was the case when the light rail was first constructed (Frias, 2007). Economically the light rail could be bad for local businesses, and could result in job losses for some. Another potential problem from expanding the light rail could be the hike in taxes for residents that would surely come to meet the cost of expansion construction. Fewer cars on the road would affect the automobile sector, as mechanics, and car dealers would see less business as well. Characteristic 4: Irreversible If a solution such as a greater expansion of the light rail

This is something majority of people can relate to. Then he explains how as we get older we acknowledge these miracles as lies because we disprove them scientifically. He also mentions that the concepts of science are miracles and based on that scientists form theories. So far his reasoning is logical. This helps his argument because more people will appeal to logical reasoning. He also provides strong evidence of religion and science working together when he writes about the experiment done on the Shroud of Turin. The Church officials allowed three distinct labs to use carbon dating to discover the age of the cloth. The findings were supported by the Church, and Pope John Paul II went on to speak of the relationship of science and religion,

Salutary Neglect was an idea which could be beneficial to the colonies. The concept of this idea was that America could experience self government and people could make their own rules. The Salutary Neglect make the colonies violate the Navigation Act and allowed the colonies to feel being independent. The colonies had their own legislatures which made their own laws. Proclamation of 1763 was ordered on October 9,1763 by King George III, which was after Britain obtained French territory in America. The job was to create a newly gained territory in America and get a better relationship between the natives and the Europeans. They achieve this goal by regulating trade, settlement and buying land on the western frontier. The colonist thought that if they had fought a war to defend the land makes it theirs. The British wanted the colonist to maintain control of the land. The colonist used to move west of the proclamation line as a form of rebellions that foreshadowed the American Revolution. A new way reciprocity can be implemented in the restaurant industry is by sending out flyers on the web, via email and social media. Under this system, when customers walk into the restaurant with the flyer, they will be given a free menu item, such as a free drink or side. This again would draw customers into the restaurant for the free item and typically cause the customer to purchase extra food to go along with their free item . Social Proof The greatest evidence of social proof within the entire restaurant industry is the use of review sites such as Urbanspoon, Yelp, etc. These sites use credibility of the masses to reassure someone that others also tried and liked this restaurant. Chipotle is the king of the fast casual restaurant industry when it comes to the utilization of the social proof weapon. An example is their line layout. By ensuring that lines are always visible from the door, the principle of social proof is at work; if multiple people are in line for Chipotle, it must be worth buying. • 45. Analysis Of Never Give All The Heart William Butler Yeats Never Give All The Heart is about vulnerability, love, and blame. It warns of both the fickleness of women and that if one loves in an overbearing manner it will actually be detrimental. Yeats personal inspiration for the poem was likely Maud Gonne, a woman whom he proposed to four times, who rejected him all four times and then proceeded to marry someone else. The poem begins in a manner suggestive of a lover scorned. Yeats talks about how passionate women, which at this point in time is not necessarily a compliment, don t consider lovethat is a sure thing worth their time and energy. Yeats also uses the word dumb, which in context likely means unable to speak, but also carries a connotation of being incapable of intelligent thought. Entering a heart into the game of love will damage the heart s owner on multiple levels. Yeats then references himself, as he who has already given his heart up to the game and lost miserably. He knows the pain and the loss that giving up one s heart to someone who does not want the whole heart brings. In fact, he was later quoted as saying, [about his first marriage proposal] that was when the troubling in my life began. He gave his whole heart to this woman and she didn t want it. Now, to his credit, Yeats isn t saying giving any heart is terrible. He is simply stating that giving the entirety of one s heart is more likely to come off as overeager and overbearing than romantic. Towards the end of the poem, he isn t blaming the woman as much, he is accepting the gamble that love is. The structure of this poem is rather notable. It mimics the structure of a Clare sonnet, fourteen lines, iambic pentameter, AABBCCDDEEFFGG rhyme scheme. Both Italian and Shakespearean sonnets tended to be love poems. However, the Clare sonnet doesn t quite fit properly with either, it s a touch more simplistic in nature, which lends this poem something akin to irony. This poem isn t simply a love poem, it s poem about the frustration of love along with being a cautionary tale. It has a more

He played a large role in the paper I instructed and thus caught my attention. I chose William Bryd as the subject for this paper merely because according to The Top 8 Renaissance Composer Article by Aaron Green, he was considered by many to be a genius on the keyboard and perhaps the greatest English composer of all time. Other aspect about William Bryd I found interesting was his interact with Queen Elizabeth I and Thomas Tallis, and this major works like Latin motets or Cantiones Sacrae along with many more. William Byrd s early life is unknown; He is believed to have been born in London sometime between 1539 and 1545. The exact date is unclear. He was one of seven children. He had four sisters, Alice, Barbara, Mary, and Martha and two brothers, Simon and John. His parents were Thomas and Margery Byrd. There is no written record of William Byrd s education, however he was a well educated man, able to read and write very well in this time. William married in 1568 to a Juliana. They then had seven children and a lifelong happy marriage. He eventually after a strong career as a composer or chorister died on July 4th 1623 in a small village of Essex and was buried in an unmarked grave. William was a top composer in the Renaissance era and composed a large number of astounding musical pieces. Many believe that William Byrd outdid any other composers of his era and called him a

Did you turn green in jealousy when you turned the television on or rummaged through the magazines glossy pages as you stared at the flawless and picture perfect models? On the other hand, if you are a man, have you ever fixed your eyes longingly to some lady and mumbled to yourself, Wow, she is beautiful ? They are empowered and successful because they fought for their rights. However, writer and feminist Naomi Wolf, author of The Beauty Myth: How Images of Beauty Are Used Against Women, is troubled. • 48. William Shakespeare s World Masterpieces Today each person has their own story to be told. All of us come from different backgrounds and have circumstances we are living through. Each of has different type of person we wish to rely on. As a result of this there are no set standards as to whom we are to date and even marry and why. Instead, it s a matter of whom each person chooses. Miguel De Cervantes, understood this at a time, the 1600 s, where this idea of lovewas not normal. Back then to marry for love was considered foolish. Traditionally 16th century love was depicted as Chivalry Romance. This means that it was to be arranged marriages between those of equal status or class as the norm. Back then love was seen as a perfect and pure concept. Cervantes did not agree with this and challenged and mocked it in his writings. As stated by Maynard Mack in his book, World Masterpieces, The actual method [Cervantes] followed in order to expose the silliness of the romances of chivalry was to show to what extraordinary consequences they would lead a man insanely infatuated in them.. . Due to this type of thinking, Cervantes in his novel, Don Quixote, portrays love in a nontraditional way, as a mysterious force that draws lovers together. Many of the tales of courtship told in Don Quixote are driven by the force of love. The tale of Quiteria and Basilio is a great example of this. In this tale, Basilio and Quiteria are next door neighbors in the same village. Basilio falls in love with Quiteria at
  • 49. Ishmael And The Carpenter As A Life Buod The imagery suggests that the mother, who is the carpenter, gives life to her child, the coffin. Ahab referred to the carpenter as Prometheus, a titan, a silkworm spinning its own shroud out of itself (Leiter 1958). This, I think is Melville s way of connecting the coffin s obvious meaning of death to life. The carpenter as Prometheus symbolizes God who gives birth or in other words life to death. The coffin then acts as a life buoy for Ishmael specifically, when it carries him over to safety at the end of the novel. Ishmael and the coffin, both tossed up by the Pequod rigged out like a whale also like Job by the Whale of God, become Prophets who deliver the message of God to the world (Leiter 1958). In a way then, the coffin also symbolizes the universe, man, his life, and his death. It is a symbol of the fate of man here on this earth. Ishmael is saved because he unlike Ahab, whose view of the condition of man is so monolithic and pretty much insane has reached a state not only of understanding man s role in the universe, but he has also achieved acceptance of that role. Wedded to Ishmael earlier in the novel, Queequeg points the way to sanity, neither through destructive internal questioning, nor through acceptance of religious prophecies, but by what he is. After meeting his other half in Peter Coffin s inn, which is decked out like a whale, Ishmael says, As I sat there in that lonely room...I began to be sensible of strange feelings.
