2. What is dentofacial anamolies?
a condition in which a mouth or jaw structure deviate
s from the normal in form, function, or position.
Abnormal dental and facial growth affects many
adults and childrens and involves the two most
common conditions seen at craniofacial centers, cleft
lip/palate and craniofacial microsomia.
INTRODUCTION
4. Orthognathic surgery is a process in which dentofacial
deformities and malocclusions are corrected.
Surgeries are performed to correct deformities
separately in the maxilla or the mandible with many
types of surgical techniques or to concurrently
perform surgery on both jaws (bimaxillary
operations).
TREATMENT
5. The articular disc, commonly referred to as the
meniscus, is a fibro-cartilaginous biconcave structure
that provides the sliding surface for any mandibular
condyle, leading to smooth joint movement.
ARTICULAR DISC DISORDER OF
TEMPOROMANDIBULAR JOINT
6. Temporal bone and mandible of different articular
surfaces are separated by various articular discs that
split the joint cavity into two small spaces. The most
common type of internal temporomandibular joint
derangement is anterior misalignment or articular
disc disorder related to temporomandibular joint.
7. Alveolitis of jaws is an inflammatory disease of well
walls which occurs after tooth extraction. This disease
has only acute form, that may damage the wells and
cause other gum problems.
8. Dentofacial anomalies [including malocclusion]-M26
Anomalies of jaw-cranial base relationship-M26.1
Anomalies of dental arch relationship- M26.2
Anomalies of tooth position of fully erupted tooth or
teeth- M26.3
