Deltaic systems are subdivided into subaerial plain, delta front, and prodelta facies associations. River-dominated deltas coarsen upward from offshore mud through distributary and beach sands to fluvial deposits. This lecture focuses on deltaic and estuarine systems which form during regressive and transgressive conditions respectively. Deltas can be classified based on their morphology as being river-, wave-, or tide-dominated depending on the balance between fluvial, wave, and tidal processes.
