What Is Paley s Design Argument
This is the second argument about God s existence. Perhaps the most popular variant owed to this this
argument is William Paley s argument concerning the watch. Essentially, this argument states that
after observing a watch, together with its intricate parts, which function together as a unit in an
accurate manner to keep time, anybody must realize that such piece of machinery has its creator, as it
is too complicated to have easily come into presence through other means, like evolution (Ratzsch,
2005). The following is a skeleton of this argument: Human artifacts are items resulting from
intelligent design and such artifacts have an aim. Universes appear like these human artifacts. Hence:
it is likely that the universe is an outcome of intelligent design and has an aim. However, the universe
is both gigantic and complex than an artifact made by a human. Therefore, there is likelihood that a
powerful and a vastly intelligent designer created the universe. ... Show more content on

Artifacts like watches are the items of intelligent design and so, organisms are also things of
intelligent design. Hume stated that things that can be compared to arguments are few. He noted that
watches are not identical to living things and hence deduced that Paley s argument is extremely feeble.
This is another kind of criticism in which Hume fails. This is because the local design argument of
Paley is good comprehended not as an analogical argument but rather as adductive argument (which is
the best explained argument). Thus, it must not be examined on the basis of similarity of watches
(analog) to living organisms (the target), but rather by the way of surprise principle. Surprise principle
states that design hypothesis is good warranted as compared to Random Hypothesis. This allegation is
not impacted by the fact that the organisms are different to other things. Thus Hume s criticism misses

Matt Patterson Global Warming Rhetorical Analysis

Rhetorical Analysis, Global Warming The Great Delusion Matt Patterson argues in Global Warming
The Great Delusion that the alleged scientific consensus surrounding the theory of global warming is
based not on fact, but rather on a web of mass hysteria and deceit. Patterson contends that In fact,
global warming is the most widespread mass hysteria in our species history , and that the beliefs of
global warming proponents are the result of their own delusional imaginations and a subconscious
apocalyptic yearning toward which masses of people tend to subject themselves. While Patterson
worries that what he perceives to be the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Patterson expresses a fear that Man will be convinced by these climate cultists to turn his back on the
very political, economic, and scientific institutions that made him so powerful, so wealthy, so healthy .
By framing his argument in a way that transitions from highlighting the scientific ignorance of global
warming to the policies that such a worldview could impact, Patterson attempts to establish a chain of
logic that justifies his concern for global warming as an influence on government. The language used
in the sentence ( climate cultists trying to convince Man , turning their back on beneficial institutions)
also implies to the reader that the proponents of global warming are actively attempting to undermine
the institutions that have allowed humankind to thrive in the modern world. This opinion is underlined
later in the article, when Patterson contemplates why many hope for climate change catastrophe. At
this point, Patterson approaches the core of his argument, wherein he provides what he believes to be
sufficient evidence that the idea global warming will soon cease to be a threat to the progress. He
argues that the fever is breaking, as more and more scientists come forward to admit their doubts
about the global warming paradigm . The use of a fever as a

An Inverse Of A Relational Model
with range queries and bitmaps.
2.4 Column Store Model
In this model, data is stored in sections of columns instead of rows. This is almost an inverse of a
relational model. The names of the column need not be predefined, i.e. the structure isn t fixed, which
helps in great scalability and performance. Columns in a row are stored in order according to their
keys. A super column also might be used which is nothing but a column containing nested sub
columns.
2.4.1 Cassandra:
Apache Cassandra is open source NoSQL database and it was found in Facebook. Cassandra s data

Instead of using tables connected by keys, this model stores each record and its related data in the
same document thereby eliminating the need of JOIN queries as in a relational model. Whereas
Cassandra is a column oriented data model and each row in the table is not required to have same
number of columns. The columns can be empty and it can have any number of columns and thus there
are wide rows. Cassandra consists of keyspaces similar to databases to relational databases and
column family that is similar to tables in relational databases.
Key value store is a concept of storing the data value inside a key and Redis uses this concept. A
particular benefit of key value stores is their simplicity and It supports such as data structures such as
strings, hashes, lists, sets, sorted sets with range queries and bitmaps. Whereas in Neo4j, the
application data is stored in the form graphs, nodes and relationships. Neo4j Graph database follows
Property Graph Model to store and manage data. Data has to be represented in Nodes, Relationships
and Properties. Relationships connects nodes and it can be unidirectional or bidirectional. Properties
are key value pairs.

Replication is done in order to increase availability and not to provide a single point of failure.

Essay on The Nightmare
The Nightmare
Dreams are often visions of the conscience that hold the most truth. In the novel, Cracking India, by
Bapsi Sidhwa, the narrator Lenny, has a reoccurring nightmare that contains much truth about the state
of India. In Lenny s nightmare,
Children lie in a warehouse. Mother and Ayah move about solicitously. The atmosphere is businesslike
and relaxed.
Godmother sits by my bed smiling indulgently as men in uniforms quietly slice off a child s arm here,
a leg there.
She strokes my head as they dismember me. I feel no pain.
Only an abysmal sense of loss and a chilling horror that no one is concerned by what s happening
(Sidhwa 31).
Lenny s childhood nightmare is symbolic of the condition of India prior to ... Show more content on

The Indians adoption of the British culture enables the British to remain in India and this
submissiveness is shown through the metaphor of the warehouse in Lenny s dream. Gandhi also
suggests that we keep the English in India for our base interest. We like their commerce; they please
us by their subtle methods and get what they want from us (Gandhi 216). Their subtle methods and
efficient ways are described in Lenny s nightmare as the businesslike and relaxed atmosphere. Gandhi
s point is proven in Cracking India when Colonel Bharucha suggests to a group of people that they
should stop buying British salt. Dr. Manek Mody, an upper class citizen, immediately objects because
he prospers from the British presence in India and sees no reason to stop buying their salt. Dr. Mody s
failure to look past his personal profit is precisely the chilling lack of concern about the holistic well
being of India that Lenny is referring to in the description of her nightmare. Gandhi suggests that the
solution to the problem of achieving Home Rule lies in getting to the root of the matter. He proposes
that if an excess of food has caused me indigestion, I shall certainly not avoid it by blaming water
(Gandhi 215). In Lenny s nightmare, the description of the British officers dismembering the children
s limbs is obviously disturbing. However, the underlying image of the children helplessly lying there
while their supposed

Food Intake 3 Days
The Encyclopedia of Women s Health (2004) defines nutrition as the sum of processes involved with
the consumption of food. The human body depends on nutrients from carbohydrates, proteins, fats,
water, and fiber to function. Nutrition, exercise, and an appropriate diet work cohesively to maintain
that the body is working productively and at full capacity. This week s assignment required the
recording of daily food intakes for a span of three days. Data from each meal was inputted into the
IProfile food journal program, and reports were evaluated to determine how nutrition, diet, and
physical activity are dependent on each other and impact health. The ... Show more content on

The body needs lipids to generate energy, but a surplus in lipid intake contributes to the development
of heart disease (Nall, 2011). The honey baked ham and chicken that my family enjoyed did have a
fatty film of saturated fat. I also tend to cook with milk and butter that is another saturated fat. On top
of my bread pudding on Saturday was a tablespoon scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Personal Intake
After reviewing foods that provide the body with protein, carbohydrates, and lipids, it was imperative
to review my own personal intakes. My personal intake for the duration of the study was 2011kcal
with my recommended DRI at 2204 kcal. Most of my daily intakes were within the recommended
range, but there are areas within my diet that I need to adjust.
Protein
My protein DRI was to stay within 55 193g of which I consumed 72 g still within the recommend
range for my individual parameters. Proteins are essential for growth, tissue repair, and enzyme
protection (Cespedes, 2012). This project was eye opening as I realized the need to manage and
balance what I eat with my physical activity to offset my consumption intakes.
Complete Protein
It is noteworthy that majority of the meals I consumed centered on complete proteins. Some meals had
both complete protein and incomplete protein such as rice and corn. A complete protein source affords
all necessary amino acids

Australian Family Law
The aim of Australia s family law while responding the ever changing values of society, is to achieve
justice in any activity it undertakes. The success of this is valued and determined by whether any
significant action has been taken as a result, and what the effects of such actions are on improving the
situations of all parties involved. The effectiveness of family law on changing values cannot be
determined when regarded as a whole. However, when broken down into certain values, such as in the
topic of best interest of the child during separation and the issue of surrogacy, it can be seen that
Australia s family laws are not effective in levelling with the community s changing values.
The family laws efficacy in an ever changing topic of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The procedures of surrogacy is a delicate and sensitive topic which raises many concerns in the public.
As a result of this, Australian laws and courts of law must allow and regulate these practices to make it
safe for all involved. Commercial forms of surrogacy agreements are illegal in most states, shown in
Part 2, Division 2 in the Surrogacy Act 2010 NSW and Chapter 4 Part 1 in the Surrogacy Act Qld.
However, in remaining jurisdictions, couples are allowed to deal in commercial agreements and
therefore often turn to an overseas arrangement. It is here where Australian law becomes more obscure
and less regulated. In any arrangement including altruistic surrogacy, there are no enforceable laws on
the agreement, hence prompting multiple issues regarding the parentage of the child. When the child is
born from the gestational carrier the birth mother and father, according to the Status of the Children
Act 1996, are the legal parents. It is when the intended parents apply for a parenting order and
accepted by the birth mother that the child s parentage is transferred this situation is set out in the case

Imperialism In The Belgian Congo
Although in some imperialism improved the lives of the native people in the Belgian Congo by
providing modern infrastructure such as schools and hospitals, to a great extent imperialism made life
worse because of its effect on nationalism and traditions as well as, the physical and emotional strain
it inflicted in the Belgian Congo.
However, imperialism helped the native Congolians by providing modern forms of infrastructure.
Before the discovery of the African Congo, life in Africa was subpar. Lifespans were much shorter,
literacy and research were foreign concepts, and transportation was a mere fantasy. Infrastructure
provided the native Congolians with schools, hospitals, and railroads, giving them improved lifestyles.

you do there? Interviewee: I picked the information from the school and my parents were there too, so
it was really hard because there were so many schools that I really like. Some of those schools in the
directory were really good too, so it was kind of cool, but it was hard. Interviewer: To narrow down?
Interviewee: Yeah, because there were maybe 100 schools that I had in mind in the book, so I had to
narrow it down to 12. Interviewer: Would you say that you first looked up the schools in the book and
then when you went to the open house you found more or was it more that you looked at the school
and the open house together? Interviewee: Some of the schools didn t have an open house. I did look
at the open house and the book; it wasn t really hard, because some of the schools I really liked and
some I didn t. It was easy finding the schools and everything. Interviewer: Were you able to attend any

Write An Essay On The Battle Of Verdun
The Battle of Verdun Introduction The Battle of Verdun was between the German and French armies
which took place around the city of Verdun sur Meuse in North East France from February 21 to
December 18, 1916. This battle was the largest, longest and amongst the most important battles in
First World War on the Western Front. The war resulted to deaths of about quarter of a million people
and left another half a million injured. The Battle of Verdun popularized by the phrase ill ne passeront
pas meaning they shall not pass brought much destruction and caused people to think of it as the war
to end all wars. History of Verdun and Background of the Battle In 1648, the Peace of Munster treaty
awarded Verdun to France. Due to the city s strategic location on Meuse River, it played a crucial role
in the defense of its surroundings. In the 1870s, Séré de Rivière devised a programme to build two
lines of fortresses from Belfort to Epinal and from Verdun to Toul which were defensive screens and

Limited Liability Companies ( Llcs ) Essay
Limited Liability Companies (LLCs) Rationale. The advent of the limited liability company in the
1990 s came about primarily to promote small business start ups by providing substantial asset
protection, simpler rules, and favorable state and local tax treatments (Millon, 2007; Riles Whitlock,
2003: Vandervoort, 2004). LLCs are also typically easier and less expensive to form and manage than
a corporation and quickly became the entity of choice (Hopson Hopson, 2014). Similarities to
corporations. Like corporations, LLCs are separate legal entities, and as with the shareholders of
corporations, the members of LLCs are provided significant asset protection from creditors and other
stakeholders (Riles Whitlock, 2003) by limiting the liability to the amount of the capital contribution
(Albert, 2015). This shifts the risk of failure and insolvency from the members to the creditors
(Millon, 2007).
Differences from corporations. Many of the differences between LLCs and corporations have been the
crux in the area of litigation, the first being the lack of corporate formalities. Unlike a corporation, an
LLC can be managed by its members or appointed managers and does not require periodic meetings.
Although every state now has LLC legislation (Albert, 2015) which impose default fiduciary duties,
these duties can be modified or eliminated altogether by the members of the LLC (Raju Remming,
2012). As opposed to corporations following FASB ASC 105 Generally

Decolonization Of The Country Of Ghana
One of the most desirable qualities to achieve is independence. Whether it be regarding intellectual,
financial, or emotional aspects of life, striving for independence continues to be a universal concept.
For the country of Ghana, independence became a necessity, and this type of freedom could only be
obtained through a process called decolonization. Decolonization is when a country removes itself
from a location it has colonized, leaving that location independent to govern over itself. The nature of
this can be problematic, due to the extensive difficulties of creating a functional country with little
time or practice. Decolonization originated from nationalist movements throughout the late 19th and
early 20th century, and the observation of older colonies obtaining independence both inspired and
guided the country of Ghana to do the same. Understanding that the rewards of decolonization far
outweigh the problems it may bring is essential. The desire for decolonization began once countries
realized that the colonizing countries were not invincible. Weaknesses were shown during World War
II especially. Some of these weakness were the lack of attention and lack of control these colonizing
countries had. The colonized people s thirst for independence on top of this vulnerability presented a
perfect opportunity to begin independence movements. During the beginning of World War II, a
document named the Atlantic Charter was created. This document described the goals of the

Narrative Essay About Duck Camp
Initially, when I first visited Tarleton State University, all I saw was men wearing cowboy hats, jeans,
and boots, but as I walked around campus more with my dad, I started to see more diversity within the
students on campus. As my dad and I walked around campus looking like we don t belong, a girl
pointed us in the right direction to find Heritage. We spoke to a residential leader who kindly showed
us around the dorm and told us how amazing the campus is. From that second forward, I had started to
fall in love with Tarleton. Orientation soon approached and introduced me to Duck Camp. When I
originally heard what Duck camp was about, teaching the heritage and traditions of Tarleton, I was
exhilarated to leave that second to learn, socialize, and start my transition from high school to college.
Before Duck Camp arrived, one of my TTMs, Wacey Horton, sent me a text saying he will be my
daddy duck for Duck Camp one. To be completely honest, I was a little weirded out when I saw him
say daddy duck but it made me laugh and all the more excited for Duck Camp. Wacey made my Duck
Camp experience something I will never forget for the rest of my life; he made it fun, introduced all of
us to new people, established friendships between all of us, and has brought me entirely out of my
shell I had enclosed myself in during high school. Wacey taught me how to have more confidence, to
have real school spirit, and how to yell my lungs out like me life depended on it. Thanks to an

Symbolism In The Graveyard Book By Neil Gaiman
Get Your Detective Hat On, There Are Clues Everywhere Symbolism comes in many forms, and we
can understand them in different ways, such as how a rose might represent romance, or death.
Symbolism appears a lot in literature, adding different meanings and different views to the overall
story. The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman, weaves a variety of different aspects of symbolism to
give a background to the characters, and the story itself. It all starts with a murder of a family, the
surviving baby and the dark organization that endangers the world. A graveyard and a few familiar
sounding supernatural forces work to protect the light from the darkness. Gaiman weaves together
different pieces of symbolism, such as names, colors, and weather, to cast a different light to what a
reader may see. One of the most distinct examples of symbolism in this book are names. Scarlett
Amber Perkins is one of the characters of the book. In this scene she is a small child that is bright and
happy. Scarlett was happy. She was a bright, lovely child, whose mother worked for a distant

Scarlett meets a nice man in the graveyard, who is doing graveyard rubbings. He later takes her home
when it begins to rain. As if in reply, the wind gusted coldly and the rain began to beat down in
earnest, (222). Mr. Frost seems cordial enough when Scarlett meets him. But, when he says that it won
t rain, the rain pours down, an ominous message of who he truly is. In this memorable scene, fog
winds through the house in the beginning of the story, when the murder happens. The street door was
still open, just a little, where the knife and the man who held it had slipped in, and wisps of nighttime
mist slithered and twined into the house through the open door, (4 6). The fog represents an air of
mysteriousness and a lack of clarity, which would be perfect for a murder, as what is

These past couple of weeks haven t so been easy for me. I know I went through a lot at home, but the

The trenches are muddy, cold and just horrendous. It smells like rotting dead bodies everywhere I go.
Every hour, there s a grenade flying over my head and I know that my luck is running out. There s
going to be a time when I am not going to be able to pick the grenade up fast enough to throw it over
the trench. That isn t even the worst of it. A bunch of my comrades and I are coming down with trench

First, there would be a round of heavy artillery being shot at the enemy trench, and right after, the first

Analysis Of Sunsets And Sunsets
In the poems, She sweeps with many Colored Brooms , by Emily Dickenson, and Sunsets , by Carl
Sandburg; the authors compare sunset to women. The beauty of sunset is the central in both poems
however, they each contain different ideas about sunset. For example, Dickenson, focuses more on the
beauty of sunset while, Sandburg, compares a sunset to a woman s demeanor, and brings out the
different kinds of ways the sun sets. In the poem, by Emily Dickenson she compares sunset to a
housewife. The poem cites She sweeps with many colored brooms [line 1 2], the quote is portraying
the true beauty of a housewife s chores. It is also indirectly referring to the rays of a sunset. A diligent
woman sews her own beautiful garments. She uses all different colors and types of thread to sew each
of her garments. The colorfulness of the thread can compare to a magnificent sunset. The poem
quotes, And now you ve littered all the East, with duds of emerald! [line 7 8]. Literarily, this is
referring to the threads and clothes that litter a woman s home. However, Dickenson is referring to the
sun setting east, and shining its glow onto the world. The author, uses emerald to portray this beautiful
scene since, emerald is a considered a beautiful stone. In the poem Sunsets , by Carl Sandburg, he
compares a woman s demeanor to sunset. A woman naturally carries a major role in life, and is also
considered a symbol of beauty and elegance. The poem states Ribbon at the ears, sashes at

Deviance From Sociological Perspective
Deviance according to sociologist is the behavior the one part takes in the that is not the norm, and can
generate a negative reaction from certain groups. From a sociological perspective deviance is
important because it reveals about the society we live in. Deviance requires us to examine and analyze
why certain people and even certain groups chose to partake in a certain manor. By examining
deviancent behavior we also recognize what the norm is. Labeling theory through a deviant approach
states that deviance is caused by others people s judgment of them, meaning that when a label is put

Professor, and even the school. All that pressure placed on them eventually leads them to try new
things that they normally would do to alleviate some of that pressure. If more than half of the students
confesses to some sort of academic dishonesty then it would be a question of morality whether or not
cheating would still be classified as deviant. It would be classified as deviant in the sense that cheating
is wrong and one should not partake in it. But it can also be classified as non deviant because so many
people have cheated that it became the norm, and deviance is only behavior that is not the norm. In
that sense it wouldn t be deviane. Personally I believe that even more than half of the students have
confessed to cheating we should still deem it as deviant behavior because if we don t then more people

March and February is the breading season for coyotes. In spring, females make dens to prepare for
their babies. The gestation period of a female is 63 days and gives birth to groups of three to 12 young
at a time. The group of coyote babies is called a litter and each coyote baby is called a pup. The size of
the litter size is based on where the coyote lives. In places where there are a lot of coyotes, there will
be a smaller litter size. In areas with less coyotes, the litter size will be bigger. Taking care of the pup
is a job that both male and female participate in. The male will bring food to the female and the pup

The Importance Of Censorship In Hollywood Movies
Prior to the current Hollywood rating system, in which the responsibility of determining what the
viewer should see is left in the hands of the viewer (with the exception of R rated movies), Hollywood
studios used self censorship to control insure what they were showing audiences was appropriate. The
way that Hollywood studios were able to do this was through the enforcement of the Movie Picture
Production Code (MPPC). The push for regulation of the motion picture industry picked up steam in
the 1920 s. The coming of sound allowed for films to be much more realistic and obscene than silent
films. In an effort to sell tickets and pique the public interest, movie studios began to make sexualized,
profane, and violent movies. The late 20 s birthed stars like Mae West, whose character almost solely
on sexual quips and innuendo. In response to these films, Daniel Lord, a Jesuit priest, submitted a
production code to the studios, in 1929. Much like the public is concerned currently with the effects
that violent video games can have on adolescents and society in general, Lord was particularly
concerned with the moral degradation the movies could have on society. Consequently, he created a
code that likely only a G rated modern movie would pass now. However, fearing the economic
consequences that a catholic boycott or governmental ban would have on Hollywood profits, the

Shakespeare Uses Manipulation, Lies, And Deceit
Shakespeare Uses Manipulation, Lies, and Deceit Many people believe lying is just a bad habit, but
that is not true. Lying is a part of human nature, no matter if it is a big or small lie, everyone has lied
before ( Lying: Bad Habit Or Human Nature? ). Everyone has different reasons for deceiving others,
but that does not change the fact that everyone has lied at some point. Human nature keeps the world
from achieving complete perfection, and Shakespeare allows this idea to be the foundation that his
plays build off of. The human nature of deception is found as a common theme in Shakespeare s
Hamlet and Much Ado About Nothing. Shakespeare uses these plays to communicate to his audiences
that sometimes in order to find the truth you have to use trickery and manipulation; thus creating the
idea that deception can be evil or harmless depending on the circumstances and the intentions of those
who are trying to decieve. Hamlet elucidates the dangers that deception can provoke in relationships
and shows the consequences of lying. Shakespeare shows his tangled opinions about deception
throughout Much Ado About Nothing by using manipulation to help benefit others and destroy
relationships; this allows Shakespeare to further show his idea that deception can be used for good and
evil. One of Shakespeare s main themes that is seen throughout many of his plays is deception; this
brings more dramatic components to the audience. Hamlet is a play that is solely created around a

It is clear that there is a disputed debate about the role of women in the Second World War. Therefore
undeniably this historiography of the impact of the Second World War on women is considered as one
of the major changes over time, in relation of methodology, theoretical viewpoints and interpretations
of this subject. During the early 1950s 1960s, sociologists and social historians were increasingly
interested in the Second World War and its effect on social change. As stated before historians, were
mostly concerned with the military and political aspects of the world and were really blind side
disregarding the social aspects of war. A range of scholars such as Richard Titmuss, Arthur Marwick,
Alva Myrdal and Viola Klein concentrated on women and war, and the benefits the war had on women
in terms of liberating them. Richard Titmuss was one of the first Historians to examine the impact of
the Second World War on women. He proposed that with the new profound reliance on women in the
Second World War, in which the men were out on the home fronts fighting in the war, whereas its the
woman who were left ultimately to hold Britain together. This reliance came with a new sense of
inspiration and the development of social policies, which eventually heightened women s standings as

The Effect of Social Hierarchy in
To Kill A Mockingbird
Social classing systems, also known as social hierarchy have been around since the beginning of time.
In such a system those of the upper class take advantage of the classes below them; whether it is kings
and their servants or a boss and their workers. This social hierarchy has a profound effect on society
and the events in Harper Lee s novel To Kill A Mockingbird. There are four classes in Maycomb; they
are distinguished in the Tom Robinson case and in the crowd who attend his trial. Due to the social
structure of Maycomb, Tom Robinson, a black man, is unjustly accused and convicted of a crime he

explains that you just can t give up They ve done it before and they ll keep doing it again and when

Horace Miner writes that the Nacirema people can be described as magic ridden people. They have
very many burdens they have imposed unto themselves; for example, the excretory rituals. These are
rituals that puts one ethnic group very distinct as compared to others, and by and large, it makes them
consolidate their beliefs and activities. In the eyes of modern culture, the Nacirema culture presents a
?crazy scenario. ? However, the Nacirema people as explained in the article are not ready to abandon
or put down the ?perceived burdens. ? They are ready to continue with them. In themselves, they value
what they do as superior and something which cannot be interfered with by other cultures.
Most evident in this article and the explanations given by the author is social solidarity. The Nacirema
people as explained in the article are unique people, who practice and carry out their activities with
total disregard of what other cultures view them. For example, the excretory rituals are bound to be
viewed by others as crazy, but to them, these are cultures, which make them strong. They are magic

to them, they have to remain in solidarity. This social solidarity is important only to the Nacirema
people, and this is because it is bound to be viewed by others as representing backwardness.

Notes On Loss And Loss
Loss is one of the most common experience that each of us share with all of mankind, no matter our
age, where we live, what we do. Yet when severe loss occurs in anyone lives most of us feels awful
and have no idea how to bring about our painful emotions and continue with our day to day lives
(Wyatt, 2010).
Loss is the experience of parting with object, person, belief, or relationship that one values.

The Thought and Influence of Voltaire Essay
The Thought and Influence of Voltaire
I The legacy of François Marie Arouet, or Voltaire is not only a vast collection of writings, but also a
world that has been radically and directly affected by these works and the activities of their author.
While Voltaire did not create many of the ideas he professed, his success at disseminating these is
unparalleled. He summed up with the most panache of anyone of his day the central issues of the
Enlightenment, and rallied with the greatest fervour to see his beliefs tangibly realised.
This paper will focus on Voltaire s stances on vital issues, their weight versus the ideas and practices
against which they are reactions, and their influence on both 18th century Europe and the modern
West. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cosmology Like many of the philosophes, Voltaire was a deist. He believed that, although God was
not one to intervene in earthly affairs, such an entity did exist. The scientific revolution had
demonstrated that the universe operated according to rational mechanics. Therefore, resembling a
machine, it must have an engineer behind it.5[5] While deist theories about space and time are
muddled and confusing for those of us who take modern science for granted (particularly in their
dependence on the concept of God),6[6] their nascent determinism is very familiar in this age where
behaviourism is so popular. Mired in Newtonian causality, Voltaire (echoing John Locke) believed that
action is the effect of which the will is the cause. The cause of the will is the effect of environment.
The environment is part of the clockwork universe made and wound by God.7[7] While this theory
brings environment into the discussion of development of personality, it makes people into passive
receptacles and cogs in machines.8[8]
Voltaire s belief in God was partly pragmatic. He recognised the difficulty of maintaining an ethical
system without rewards and punishments. The Christian tradition had so long used heaven and hell as
motivational factors that it was hard by the 18th century to imagine morality for its own sake. While
just laws would ensure just actions by the general population,

(2011), vice president and general manager of the global travel and hospitality practice at J.D. Power
and Associates said that as the industry continues to recover and rates increase, hoteliers need to get
back to the fundamentals and improve the overall guest experience. Charging guests more and
providing less is not a winning combination from a guest satisfaction perspective, much less a winning
business strategy. In short, hoteliers are falling further behind and need to catch up. The service of the
staff maybe the key factor to the hotel success, which is greatly relates to the customer s happiness

  • 2. What Is Paley s Design Argument This is the second argument about God s existence. Perhaps the most popular variant owed to this this argument is William Paley s argument concerning the watch. Essentially, this argument states that after observing a watch, together with its intricate parts, which function together as a unit in an accurate manner to keep time, anybody must realize that such piece of machinery has its creator, as it is too complicated to have easily come into presence through other means, like evolution (Ratzsch, 2005). The following is a skeleton of this argument: Human artifacts are items resulting from intelligent design and such artifacts have an aim. Universes appear like these human artifacts. Hence: it is likely that the universe is an outcome of intelligent design and has an aim. However, the universe is both gigantic and complex than an artifact made by a human. Therefore, there is likelihood that a powerful and a vastly intelligent designer created the universe. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Artifacts like watches are the items of intelligent design and so, organisms are also things of intelligent design. Hume stated that things that can be compared to arguments are few. He noted that watches are not identical to living things and hence deduced that Paley s argument is extremely feeble. This is another kind of criticism in which Hume fails. This is because the local design argument of Paley is good comprehended not as an analogical argument but rather as adductive argument (which is the best explained argument). Thus, it must not be examined on the basis of similarity of watches (analog) to living organisms (the target), but rather by the way of surprise principle. Surprise principle states that design hypothesis is good warranted as compared to Random Hypothesis. This allegation is not impacted by the fact that the organisms are different to other things. Thus Hume s criticism misses the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Matt Patterson Global Warming Rhetorical Analysis Kevin Breuninger Prof. Jerry Phillips Prof. Harris Fairbanks English 3633W 23 February 2012 Rhetorical Analysis, Global Warming The Great Delusion Matt Patterson argues in Global Warming The Great Delusion that the alleged scientific consensus surrounding the theory of global warming is based not on fact, but rather on a web of mass hysteria and deceit. Patterson contends that In fact, global warming is the most widespread mass hysteria in our species history , and that the beliefs of global warming proponents are the result of their own delusional imaginations and a subconscious apocalyptic yearning toward which masses of people tend to subject themselves. While Patterson worries that what he perceives to be the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Patterson expresses a fear that Man will be convinced by these climate cultists to turn his back on the very political, economic, and scientific institutions that made him so powerful, so wealthy, so healthy . By framing his argument in a way that transitions from highlighting the scientific ignorance of global warming to the policies that such a worldview could impact, Patterson attempts to establish a chain of logic that justifies his concern for global warming as an influence on government. The language used in the sentence ( climate cultists trying to convince Man , turning their back on beneficial institutions) also implies to the reader that the proponents of global warming are actively attempting to undermine the institutions that have allowed humankind to thrive in the modern world. This opinion is underlined later in the article, when Patterson contemplates why many hope for climate change catastrophe. At this point, Patterson approaches the core of his argument, wherein he provides what he believes to be sufficient evidence that the idea global warming will soon cease to be a threat to the progress. He argues that the fever is breaking, as more and more scientists come forward to admit their doubts about the global warming paradigm . The use of a fever as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. An Inverse Of A Relational Model with range queries and bitmaps. 2.4 Column Store Model In this model, data is stored in sections of columns instead of rows. This is almost an inverse of a relational model. The names of the column need not be predefined, i.e. the structure isn t fixed, which helps in great scalability and performance. Columns in a row are stored in order according to their keys. A super column also might be used which is nothing but a column containing nested sub columns. 2.4.1 Cassandra: Apache Cassandra is open source NoSQL database and it was found in Facebook. Cassandra s data model offers the convenience of column indexes with the performance of log structured updates. It provides horizontal scalability and the downtime is lesser compared to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead of using tables connected by keys, this model stores each record and its related data in the same document thereby eliminating the need of JOIN queries as in a relational model. Whereas Cassandra is a column oriented data model and each row in the table is not required to have same number of columns. The columns can be empty and it can have any number of columns and thus there are wide rows. Cassandra consists of keyspaces similar to databases to relational databases and column family that is similar to tables in relational databases. Key value store is a concept of storing the data value inside a key and Redis uses this concept. A particular benefit of key value stores is their simplicity and It supports such as data structures such as strings, hashes, lists, sets, sorted sets with range queries and bitmaps. • 5. Essay on The Nightmare The Nightmare Dreams are often visions of the conscience that hold the most truth. In the novel, Cracking India, by Bapsi Sidhwa, the narrator Lenny, has a reoccurring nightmare that contains much truth about the state of India. In Lenny s nightmare, Children lie in a warehouse. Mother and Ayah move about solicitously. The atmosphere is businesslike and relaxed. Godmother sits by my bed smiling indulgently as men in uniforms quietly slice off a child s arm here, a leg there. She strokes my head as they dismember me. I feel no pain. Only an abysmal sense of loss and a chilling horror that no one is concerned by what s happening (Sidhwa 31). Lenny s childhood nightmare is symbolic of the condition of India prior to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Indians adoption of the British culture enables the British to remain in India and this submissiveness is shown through the metaphor of the warehouse in Lenny s dream. Gandhi also suggests that we keep the English in India for our base interest. We like their commerce; they please us by their subtle methods and get what they want from us (Gandhi 216). Their subtle methods and efficient ways are described in Lenny s nightmare as the businesslike and relaxed atmosphere. Gandhi s point is proven in Cracking India when Colonel Bharucha suggests to a group of people that they should stop buying British salt. Dr. Manek Mody, an upper class citizen, immediately objects because he prospers from the British presence in India and sees no reason to stop buying their salt. Dr. Mody s failure to look past his personal profit is precisely the chilling lack of concern about the holistic well being of India that Lenny is referring to in the description of her nightmare. Gandhi suggests that the solution to the problem of achieving Home Rule lies in getting to the root of the matter. He proposes that if an excess of food has caused me indigestion, I shall certainly not avoid it by blaming water (Gandhi 215). In Lenny s nightmare, the description of the British officers dismembering the children s limbs is obviously disturbing. However, the underlying image of the children helplessly lying there while their supposed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Limited Liability Companies ( Llcs ) Essay Limited Liability Companies (LLCs) Rationale. The advent of the limited liability company in the 1990 s came about primarily to promote small business start ups by providing substantial asset protection, simpler rules, and favorable state and local tax treatments (Millon, 2007; Riles Whitlock, 2003: Vandervoort, 2004). LLCs are also typically easier and less expensive to form and manage than a corporation and quickly became the entity of choice (Hopson Hopson, 2014). Similarities to corporations. Like corporations, LLCs are separate legal entities, and as with the shareholders of corporations, the members of LLCs are provided significant asset protection from creditors and other stakeholders (Riles Whitlock, 2003) by limiting the liability to the amount of the capital contribution (Albert, 2015). This shifts the risk of failure and insolvency from the members to the creditors (Millon, 2007). Differences from corporations. Many of the differences between LLCs and corporations have been the crux in the area of litigation, the first being the lack of corporate formalities. Unlike a corporation, an LLC can be managed by its members or appointed managers and does not require periodic meetings. Although every state now has LLC legislation (Albert, 2015) which impose default fiduciary duties, these duties can be modified or eliminated altogether by the members of the LLC (Raju Remming, 2012). • 17. Decolonization Of The Country Of Ghana One of the most desirable qualities to achieve is independence. Whether it be regarding intellectual, financial, or emotional aspects of life, striving for independence continues to be a universal concept. For the country of Ghana, independence became a necessity, and this type of freedom could only be obtained through a process called decolonization. Decolonization is when a country removes itself from a location it has colonized, leaving that location independent to govern over itself. The nature of this can be problematic, due to the extensive difficulties of creating a functional country with little time or practice. Decolonization originated from nationalist movements throughout the late 19th and early 20th century, and the observation of older colonies obtaining independence both inspired and guided the country of Ghana to do the same. Understanding that the rewards of decolonization far outweigh the problems it may bring is essential. The desire for decolonization began once countries realized that the colonizing countries were not invincible. Weaknesses were shown during World War II especially. Some of these weakness were the lack of attention and lack of control these colonizing countries had. The colonized people s thirst for independence on top of this vulnerability presented a perfect opportunity to begin independence movements. Loffreda assumes that most people who are protesting and join the vigils, a portion of them are hypocrites, and are pretending because the event is stretched into a nationwide issue that has a huge influence around the world. What Loffreda doesn t admit, is that the media plays an important role in promoting concern of discrimination towards minorities and more people are actually paying attention to the issue and trying to fix it. Nevertheless, Loffreda does not catch that and she also generalizes those people as hypocrites, which is exactly what she previously complains about the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. The Importance Of Censorship In Hollywood Movies Prior to the current Hollywood rating system, in which the responsibility of determining what the viewer should see is left in the hands of the viewer (with the exception of R rated movies), Hollywood studios used self censorship to control insure what they were showing audiences was appropriate. The way that Hollywood studios were able to do this was through the enforcement of the Movie Picture Production Code (MPPC). The push for regulation of the motion picture industry picked up steam in the 1920 s. The coming of sound allowed for films to be much more realistic and obscene than silent films. In an effort to sell tickets and pique the public interest, movie studios began to make sexualized, profane, and violent movies. The late 20 s birthed stars like Mae West, whose character almost solely on sexual quips and innuendo. In response to these films, Daniel Lord, a Jesuit priest, submitted a production code to the studios, in 1929. Much like the public is concerned currently with the effects that violent video games can have on adolescents and society in general, Lord was particularly concerned with the moral degradation the movies could have on society. Consequently, he created a code that likely only a G rated modern movie would pass now. However, fearing the economic consequences that a catholic boycott or governmental ban would have on Hollywood profits, the Motion Picture Production and Distributors Association of America (MPPDA), which was made up of the biggest ... • 30. Shakespeare Uses Manipulation, Lies, And Deceit Shakespeare Uses Manipulation, Lies, and Deceit Many people believe lying is just a bad habit, but that is not true. Lying is a part of human nature, no matter if it is a big or small lie, everyone has lied before ( Lying: Bad Habit Or Human Nature? ). Everyone has different reasons for deceiving others, but that does not change the fact that everyone has lied at some point. Human nature keeps the world from achieving complete perfection, and Shakespeare allows this idea to be the foundation that his plays build off of. The human nature of deception is found as a common theme in Shakespeare s Hamlet and Much Ado About Nothing. Shakespeare uses these plays to communicate to his audiences that sometimes in order to find the truth you have to use trickery and manipulation; thus creating the idea that deception can be evil or harmless depending on the circumstances and the intentions of those who are trying to decieve. Hamlet elucidates the dangers that deception can provoke in relationships and shows the consequences of lying. Shakespeare shows his tangled opinions about deception throughout Much Ado About Nothing by using manipulation to help benefit others and destroy relationships; this allows Shakespeare to further show his idea that deception can be used for good and evil. One of Shakespeare s main themes that is seen throughout many of his plays is deception; this brings more dramatic components to the audience. While Voltaire did not create many of the ideas he professed, his success at disseminating these is unparalleled. He summed up with the most panache of anyone of his day the central issues of the Enlightenment, and rallied with the greatest fervour to see his beliefs tangibly realised. This paper will focus on Voltaire s stances on vital issues, their weight versus the ideas and practices against which they are reactions, and their influence on both 18th century Europe and the modern West. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cosmology Like many of the philosophes, Voltaire was a deist. He believed that, although God was not one to intervene in earthly affairs, such an entity did exist. The scientific revolution had demonstrated that the universe operated according to rational mechanics. Therefore, resembling a machine, it must have an engineer behind it.5[5] While deist theories about space and time are muddled and confusing for those of us who take modern science for granted (particularly in their dependence on the concept of God),6[6] their nascent determinism is very familiar in this age where behaviourism is so popular. Mired in Newtonian causality, Voltaire (echoing John Locke) believed that action is the effect of which the will is the cause. The cause of the will is the effect of environment. The environment is part of the clockwork universe made and wound by God.7[7] While this theory brings environment into the discussion of development of personality, it makes people into passive receptacles and cogs in machines.8[8] Voltaire s belief in God was partly pragmatic. He recognised the difficulty of maintaining an ethical system without rewards and punishments. The Christian tradition had so long used heaven and hell as motivational factors that it was hard by the 18th century to imagine morality for its own sake. While just laws would ensure just actions by the general population, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
