This document summarizes Shripad Thite's Ph.D. defense on spacetime meshing for discontinuous Galerkin methods. The defense presented new algorithms for adaptively generating spacetime meshes that can handle changing wavespeeds, refine and coarsen resolution, and track moving boundaries. The algorithms were proven to guarantee progress of the mesh while satisfying causality and other constraints. Several publications resulted that presented these spacetime meshing techniques and their application to problems in elastodynamics.
