Notes
Let Us Be the House of the Lord
âI was glad when they said to me, âLet us go to the house of the Lordââ (Psalm
122:1)!
In the next phrase, David mentions he is standing in the gates of Jerusalem
(Psalm 122:2).
Staying in the temple location did not suffice. Thereâs a great example here.
David was not satisfied with simply standing inside the gate of the city of Godâs
people. David understood that being close to God in proximity is not the same as
dwelling in His presence.
Today the temple has changed, but the concept of dwelling with God has
not. Paul tells the Corinthians, âDo you not know that you are Godâs temple and
that Godâs Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys Godâs temple, God will destroy
him. For Godâs temple is holy, and you are that templeâ (1 Corinthians 3:16-17).
The called out of God are His temple. We have an opportunity every time we
gather together to dwell with God in the presence of Godâs dwelling place. The
Hebrews writer describes what this looks like:
âLet us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts
sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let
us hold fast theconfession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is
faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not
neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another,
and all the more as you see the Day drawing nearâ (Hebrews 10:22-25).
We can dwell in close proximity to Godâs temple by sitting in the pew, yet
still not a part of His temple. Dwelling in the gate is not the same as dwelling in the
temple. Davidâs final passage of the Psalm is verse 9: âFor the sake of the house of
the Lord our God, I will seek your good.â For the sake of Godâs temple, we
continue to do good. We do not simply do what is right when we gather together.
We must live for Christ at all times, representing His temple wherever we go.
Paul tells the Corinthians that he and Apollos are fellow workers, and
describes the Church in a profound way: âFor we are Godâs fellow workers. You
are Godâs field, Godâs buildingâ (1 Corinthians 3:9). Since the Church is referred to
as the temple and building of God, we could use the words of David as an adapted
pledge:
âLet us be the house of the Lord.â

Dear Deerfoot Church Family,
Our family would like to thank all the

also wish to thank the church for the food
that was sent to our family before the
funeral and for the food that was prepared
by the church members after the funeral.
