5PMSkipMcCurry God’s Finger Print
I have a twin sister. Growing up we were always together. We are a lot alike. Both artistic, both
left handed, and believe it or not folks have asked if my twin sister and I (her brother) are identical. Let that
one sink in for a second.
Is there really anyone who is identical? I understand the concept as far as sharing the same genetic
profiles. However, even “identical” twins are unique.
When God made each one of us, He made us with our own stamp of approval. Our own unique
imprint in this world. Out of 7 billion people on this earth, no one has your fingerprints. This can be a con-
venient safety feature. I use my finger print to unlock my computer and phone. No one on earth can do that
but me. An even more significant safety feature would be that a victim can receive jus-
tice when a fingerprint is left at the scene of a crime.
Let’s look at a famous crime against humanity in which a finger print was left at the scene of the
crime. The result has affected every person who has existed and everyone who will exist in the future.
“So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and
that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, SHE TOOK OF ITS FRUIT and ate, and she also gave
some to her husband who was with her, and he ate”(Genesis 3:6 ESV).
By leaving their fingerprints on the fruit of knowledge of Good and Evil, they also left a lasting
impression on all people to this very day. We are all unique, but due to this action, we all choose to sin.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23 ESV).
There is good news for us. Another finger print was left at the scene. God’s Hand was in it all as He told
the Serpent,
“I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he
shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel” (Genesis 3:15 ESV). The seed of woman would
bring forth a child that would crush the head of the Serpent. The only person ever born of a virgin was Je-
sus the Christ, giving Him the most unique imprint ever created. The Hebrews writer says that Jesus is the
identical imprint of God’s nature. “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers
by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all
things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact im-
print of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power” (Hebrews 1:1–3 ESV).
Jesus left His mark to be the cure for the affliction brought about by Adam and Eve. It is through
this mark that we have access to the hand of God.
Jesus is God’s fingerprint.

Hezekiah’s Sickness and Recovery
“In those days Hezekiah was sick and near
death. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz,
went to him and said to him, "Thus says the
LORD: 'Set your house in order, for you shall
die and not live” (Isaiah 38:1). Just prior to this
time Sennacherib king of Assyria had come down
against Judah and threatened to destroy them.
Hezekiah had prayed to God that he would “deliver
us from his hand that all the kingdoms of the
earth may know that Thou alone, O Lord, art
God” (II Kings 19:19). God answered Hezekiah’s
prayer and the angel of the Lord destroyed 185,000
in the camp of the Assyrians. But the joy of that
great deliverance was interrupted for Hezekiah with
this illness for which God told him there would be
no cure.
As before, when this great king was faced
with obstacles that he could not overcome, Heze-
kiah took his concern to God. “Then Hezekiah
turned his face toward the wall, and prayed to
the LORD, 3 and said, "Remember now, O
LORD, I pray, how I have walked before You in
truth and with a loyal heart, and have done what
is good in Your sight." And Hezekiah wept bit-
terly” (Isa. 38:2, 3). I believe that anyone of us in a
similar situation would have reacted in the same
way and that we would have gone to God in prayer.
Yet could we all say that we could make an appeal
to God upon the same basis as Hezekiah? Heze-
kiah was not a perfect man but he was a man who
had tried to live for God and do what was right. And
all that he can do in his prayer is to ask that God
would remember him as one who walked in truth,
with a loyal heart and did what was good in God’s
sight.
God immediately sent Isaiah back to the
king with this word, “Thus says the LORD, the
God of David your father: "I have heard your
prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will add
to your days fifteen years” (Isaiah 38:5). God
hears our prayers. God’s ears are not dull that He
cannot hear (Isa. 59:1). God sees our tears. God
knows our sorrow. When our hearts are broken He
sees. David said, “Thou hast kept count of my
tossings; put thou my tears in thy bottle! Are
they not in thy book?” (Psalms 56:8). God heals.
He heals us of our greatest problem – sin!
Our appeal to God for that healing which we
need is based not upon our own goodness but upon
the goodness of the One who died for us. Jesus
lived the perfect life (Heb. 4:15) and gave that life
that we might be forgiven and be declared right-
eous.
