Concerned of: “Integrating Technology into
Teaching and Learning”
The meaning of which is putting together technology into
teaching and learning so that these will become one in learner’s
education. To specify- focused on introducing, reinforcing,
supplementing, and extending the knowledge and skills to learners
so that they can become exemplary users of educational technology.
ET-2 will involve a deeper understanding of the
computer as well as hands-on-application of computer skills.
To infuse technology in the student-teacher training, helping
learners to adapt and meet rapid and continuing technology
changes in information and communication technology (ICT)
environment.
 to learn to use and evaluate
computer-based educational
resources.
 to engage learners on practical
technology integration issues.
 to inculcate higher level thinking
and creativity among students
while providing them knowledge of
IT- related learning theories.
 to impart learning experiences in
instructional technology-
supported instructional planning.
 to acquaint students on
Information Technology or IT-
related learning theories with the
computer as a tutor.
 to provide education in the use of
technology in instruction.
As we can observe, today is different from the past. We can
see that there is really a generation gap. This gap may
include the way of teaching, the materials being used in
instruction and how the teachers use this instruction.
The older generation
often feels there is a
generation gap between
them and the younger
generation. This is
apparent simple things
like the manner of
dressing, socializing,
more intimate
relationships like
friendship and marrying.
It is understandable that transition to digital education may take time.
But given the rapid emergence of digital technology (ICT), there is the
need to prepare for bridging the digital gap in society. First, we need
to understand the potentials of ICT:
The new network of
instantaneous
communication is global,
overcoming borders
between countries and
continents.
Much of what
elders believe
may not be
applicable
anymore to the
new generations.
Alvin Toffler’s book,
Future Shock, shows
how the information
age has begun to create
many cultural changes.
People today maybe literate
by the standards of the 20th
Century but won’t be literate by
the standards of our society today.
We need to move to 21st
century literacies and fluencies.
SOLUTION
FLUENCYSolution Fluency is the ability to think
creatively to solve problems in real time
by using the 6D’s namely, DEFINE,
DISCOVER, DREAM, DESIGN, DELIVER,
and DEBRIEF.
INFORMATION
FLUENCY
Information Fluency is the ability
to unconsciously and intuitively
interpret information in all forms
and formats in order to extract the
essential knowledge, authenticate it,
and perceive its meaning and
significance.
ACCESS REFLECTRETRIEVE
CREATIVITY
FLUENCYCreativity Fluency is the process by
which artistic proficiency adds meaning
through design, art, and storytelling. It
is about using innovative design to add
value to the function of a product
through its form. We are all creative
people. The 5I’s in creativity fluency is
a whole brain process that involves
both hemispheres working together.
MEDIA FLUENCY
There are two components of Media
Fluency. Firstly, the ability to look
analytically at any communication to
interpret the real message, and evaluate
the efficacy of the chosen medium.
Secondly, to create original
communications by aligning the message
and audience though the most
appropriate and effective medium.
5I’s:
IDENTIFY
INSPIRE
INTERPOLATE
IMAGINE
INSPECT
COLLABORATION
FLUENCY
Collaboration Fluency is team
working proficiency that has reached
the unconscious ability to work
cooperatively with virtual and real
partners in an online environment to
solve problems and create original
products.

GLOBAL ETHICS
The digital citizen uses the principles
of leadership, ethics, accountability,
fiscal responsibility, environmental
awareness, global citizenship, and
personal responsibility, and considers
his or her actions and their
consequences.
We shall discuss four types
of IT-based projects
which can effectively be
used in order to engage
students in activities of a
higher plane of
thinking.
It is to be understood that these projects do not address all of the
thinking skills shown previously in the Thinking Skills Framework. But
these projects represent constructivist project.
A. The teacher creating the
learning environment.
C. The teacher facilitating
learning.
B. The teacher giving students the
tools and facilities.
KEY ELEMENTS OF A CONSTRUCTIVIST
APPROACH TO INSTRUCTION:
RESOURCE BASED-PROJECTS SIMPLE CREATIONS
GUIDED HYPERMEDIA
PROJECTS
WEB-BASED PROJECTS
FOUR IT-BASED PROGRAM
RESOURCE BASED-PROJECTS
The teachers steps out of
the traditional role of being
context expert and
information provider, and
instead let the students find
their own facts and
information.
SIMPLE CREATIONS
In developing software,
creativity as an outcome
should not be equated with
ingenuity or high
intelligence.
WEB-BASED PROJECTS
Students can be made to
create and post web pages on
a given topic. But creating new
pages, even single page web
pages, maybe tool
sophisticated and time
consuming for the average
student.
GUIDED HYPERMEDIA
PROJECTS
The production of self-
made multimedia projects
can be approached into
different ways:
INSTRUCTIVE &
CONSTRUCTIVE TOOL
The effective use of Technology in Education has changed the face of
education and it has created more educational opportunities. Both
teachers and students have benefited from various educational
technologies, teachers have learned how to integrate technology in
their classrooms and students are getting more interested in learning
with technology.
Importance of Computer Literacy:
know-how of computer concepts and basic knowledge of its operation for storage and
processing. With the recent advancement in the education industry, the use of computers in
education has become relevant. Computers play a great role in helping students learn faster and
they also increase the level of creativity of the students.
Computer Literacy is
considered to be a very important
skill to possess while in the first
world. Employers want their
workers to have basic computer
skills because their company
becomes ever more dependent on
computers. Many companies try
to use computers to help run their
company faster and cheaper.
In this lesson, we shall
again look at the
computer, but this time
from another perspective,
the computer as the
teacher’s handy-tool. It
can in fact support the
constructivist and social
constructivist paradigms
of constructivist learning.
Jean
Piaget
Jerome
Bruner
Constructivism was introduced by Piaget (1981) and Bruner
(1990). This is an effort to show that the construction of knowledge
is governed by social, historical and cultural contexts. In effect, this is
to say that the learner who interprets knowledge has a
predetermined point of view according to the social perspectives of
the community or society he lives in.
The psychologist Lev Vygotsky stressed that learning is affected by social
influences. He therefore suggested the interactive process in learning. The
more capable adult (teacher or parent) or classmate can aid or complement
what the learner sees in a given class project. In addition, John Dewey sees
language as a medium for social coordination and adaptation. For Dewey
human learning is really human language that occurs when students socially
share, build and agree upon meanings and knowledge.
Lev Vygotsky John Dewey
The Computer’s Capabilities Given its present-day speed, flexibility
and sophistication, the computer can provide, access to
information, foster creative social knowledge building, and
enhance the communication of the achieved project package.
Based on the two learning theories, the teacher can employ the
computer as a/an:
A communication toolAs an information tool
A constructive tool As co-constructive tool
A situating tool
On ways of co-constructive
is the use of the electronic
whiteboard where students
may post notices to a shared
document/whiteboard.
The computer itself can be
used for manipulating
information, visualizing
one’s understanding and
building new knowledge.
The computer can provide
vast amounts of
information in various
forms, such as text,
graphics, sound and video.
By means of virtual
reality (RS) extension
systems, the
computer can create
3-D images on
display to give the
user the feeling that
are situated in a
virtual environment.
A constructive tool As co-constructive tool
As an information tool
A situating tool
Computers are critical for
communication and are
the centerpiece of
information technology.
A communication tool
Impact of technology on teaching and learning
Students today are benefiting from the
use of technology in the classroom.
Teachers are using software programs
to help students improve upon
underdeveloped skills in a variety of
content areas. Student learning styles
help drive home the idea of using
technology in differentiated instruction.
Technology is fast becoming a part of
our daily lives and educational
technology must follow suit.
Online learning is becoming the answer to many obstacles in education. Time and
distance are no longer trouble spots when it comes to professional and educational
development. Students can benefit from a teacher’s experience and expertise no
matter the location. A new world is opening up right before our eyes.
Each student brings his or her own learning style to the class. It is up to the
teacher to develop lessons which will utilize each student’s way of
processing information. By understanding how to present
information to students, teachers have a better chance of seeing
success in their classroom.
I have learned in this course, Educational Technology 2, how useful and
effective the technology is in our everyday life. Since Educational Technology 2 is
about orienting the learners in averting the dangers of dehumanization which
technology brings into society, it is important for me to take computer courses so
that I can have a wide range of information about the different uses of technology
and as a future teacher it will help me a lot in preparing and presenting my lesson.
Today, the role of educational technology in teaching is of great importance
because of the use of information and communication technologies. Educational
technology has improved the teaching-learning process and made it more
effective and process oriented. Through collaboration needed in group reporting,
I learned in this course that the presence of educational technology is really
growing in the classroom. Provided by a systematic organization of content and
instructional materials, educational technology has provided well-integrated
structured materials for teachers and can help them save a lot of time to prepare
and present the lesson and be more visually appealing and conducive for
student’s learning.

  • 3. Concerned of: “Integrating Technology into Teaching and Learning” The meaning of which is putting together technology into teaching and learning so that these will become one in learner’s education. To specify- focused on introducing, reinforcing, supplementing, and extending the knowledge and skills to learners so that they can become exemplary users of educational technology. ET-2 will involve a deeper understanding of the computer as well as hands-on-application of computer skills. To infuse technology in the student-teacher training, helping learners to adapt and meet rapid and continuing technology changes in information and communication technology (ICT) environment.
  • 4.  to learn to use and evaluate computer-based educational resources.  to engage learners on practical technology integration issues.  to inculcate higher level thinking and creativity among students while providing them knowledge of IT- related learning theories.  to impart learning experiences in instructional technology- supported instructional planning.  to acquaint students on Information Technology or IT- related learning theories with the computer as a tutor.  to provide education in the use of technology in instruction.
  • 5. As we can observe, today is different from the past. We can see that there is really a generation gap. This gap may include the way of teaching, the materials being used in instruction and how the teachers use this instruction. The older generation often feels there is a generation gap between them and the younger generation. This is apparent simple things like the manner of dressing, socializing, more intimate relationships like friendship and marrying.
  • 6. It is understandable that transition to digital education may take time. But given the rapid emergence of digital technology (ICT), there is the need to prepare for bridging the digital gap in society. First, we need to understand the potentials of ICT: The new network of instantaneous communication is global, overcoming borders between countries and continents. Much of what elders believe may not be applicable anymore to the new generations. Alvin Toffler’s book, Future Shock, shows how the information age has begun to create many cultural changes.
  • 7. People today maybe literate by the standards of the 20th Century but won’t be literate by the standards of our society today. We need to move to 21st century literacies and fluencies.
  • 8. SOLUTION FLUENCYSolution Fluency is the ability to think creatively to solve problems in real time by using the 6D’s namely, DEFINE, DISCOVER, DREAM, DESIGN, DELIVER, and DEBRIEF. INFORMATION FLUENCY Information Fluency is the ability to unconsciously and intuitively interpret information in all forms and formats in order to extract the essential knowledge, authenticate it, and perceive its meaning and significance. ACCESS REFLECTRETRIEVE
  • 9. CREATIVITY FLUENCYCreativity Fluency is the process by which artistic proficiency adds meaning through design, art, and storytelling. It is about using innovative design to add value to the function of a product through its form. We are all creative people. The 5I’s in creativity fluency is a whole brain process that involves both hemispheres working together. MEDIA FLUENCY There are two components of Media Fluency. Firstly, the ability to look analytically at any communication to interpret the real message, and evaluate the efficacy of the chosen medium. Secondly, to create original communications by aligning the message and audience though the most appropriate and effective medium. 5I’s: IDENTIFY INSPIRE INTERPOLATE IMAGINE INSPECT
  • 10. COLLABORATION FLUENCY Collaboration Fluency is team working proficiency that has reached the unconscious ability to work cooperatively with virtual and real partners in an online environment to solve problems and create original products. ENGINEER ENVISION ESTABLISH EXECUTE EXAMINE GLOBAL ETHICS The digital citizen uses the principles of leadership, ethics, accountability, fiscal responsibility, environmental awareness, global citizenship, and personal responsibility, and considers his or her actions and their consequences.
  • 11. We shall discuss four types of IT-based projects which can effectively be used in order to engage students in activities of a higher plane of thinking.
  • 12. It is to be understood that these projects do not address all of the thinking skills shown previously in the Thinking Skills Framework. But these projects represent constructivist project. A. The teacher creating the learning environment. C. The teacher facilitating learning. B. The teacher giving students the tools and facilities. KEY ELEMENTS OF A CONSTRUCTIVIST APPROACH TO INSTRUCTION:
  • 13. RESOURCE BASED-PROJECTS SIMPLE CREATIONS GUIDED HYPERMEDIA PROJECTS WEB-BASED PROJECTS FOUR IT-BASED PROGRAM
  • 14. RESOURCE BASED-PROJECTS The teachers steps out of the traditional role of being context expert and information provider, and instead let the students find their own facts and information. SIMPLE CREATIONS In developing software, creativity as an outcome should not be equated with ingenuity or high intelligence. WEB-BASED PROJECTS Students can be made to create and post web pages on a given topic. But creating new pages, even single page web pages, maybe tool sophisticated and time consuming for the average student. GUIDED HYPERMEDIA PROJECTS The production of self- made multimedia projects can be approached into different ways: INSTRUCTIVE & CONSTRUCTIVE TOOL
  • 15. The effective use of Technology in Education has changed the face of education and it has created more educational opportunities. Both teachers and students have benefited from various educational technologies, teachers have learned how to integrate technology in their classrooms and students are getting more interested in learning with technology.
  • 16. Importance of Computer Literacy: know-how of computer concepts and basic knowledge of its operation for storage and processing. With the recent advancement in the education industry, the use of computers in education has become relevant. Computers play a great role in helping students learn faster and they also increase the level of creativity of the students. Computer Literacy is considered to be a very important skill to possess while in the first world. Employers want their workers to have basic computer skills because their company becomes ever more dependent on computers. Many companies try to use computers to help run their company faster and cheaper.
  • 17. In this lesson, we shall again look at the computer, but this time from another perspective, the computer as the teacher’s handy-tool. It can in fact support the constructivist and social constructivist paradigms of constructivist learning.
  • 18. Jean Piaget Jerome Bruner Constructivism was introduced by Piaget (1981) and Bruner (1990). This is an effort to show that the construction of knowledge is governed by social, historical and cultural contexts. In effect, this is to say that the learner who interprets knowledge has a predetermined point of view according to the social perspectives of the community or society he lives in.
  • 19. The psychologist Lev Vygotsky stressed that learning is affected by social influences. He therefore suggested the interactive process in learning. The more capable adult (teacher or parent) or classmate can aid or complement what the learner sees in a given class project. In addition, John Dewey sees language as a medium for social coordination and adaptation. For Dewey human learning is really human language that occurs when students socially share, build and agree upon meanings and knowledge. Lev Vygotsky John Dewey
  • 20. The Computer’s Capabilities Given its present-day speed, flexibility and sophistication, the computer can provide, access to information, foster creative social knowledge building, and enhance the communication of the achieved project package. Based on the two learning theories, the teacher can employ the computer as a/an: A communication toolAs an information tool A constructive tool As co-constructive tool A situating tool
  • 21. On ways of co-constructive is the use of the electronic whiteboard where students may post notices to a shared document/whiteboard. The computer itself can be used for manipulating information, visualizing one’s understanding and building new knowledge. The computer can provide vast amounts of information in various forms, such as text, graphics, sound and video. By means of virtual reality (RS) extension systems, the computer can create 3-D images on display to give the user the feeling that are situated in a virtual environment. A constructive tool As co-constructive tool As an information tool A situating tool Computers are critical for communication and are the centerpiece of information technology. A communication tool
  • 22. Impact of technology on teaching and learning Students today are benefiting from the use of technology in the classroom. Teachers are using software programs to help students improve upon underdeveloped skills in a variety of content areas. Student learning styles help drive home the idea of using technology in differentiated instruction. Technology is fast becoming a part of our daily lives and educational technology must follow suit.
  • 23. Online learning is becoming the answer to many obstacles in education. Time and distance are no longer trouble spots when it comes to professional and educational development. Students can benefit from a teacher’s experience and expertise no matter the location. A new world is opening up right before our eyes. Each student brings his or her own learning style to the class. It is up to the teacher to develop lessons which will utilize each student’s way of processing information. By understanding how to present information to students, teachers have a better chance of seeing success in their classroom.
  • 24. I have learned in this course, Educational Technology 2, how useful and effective the technology is in our everyday life. Since Educational Technology 2 is about orienting the learners in averting the dangers of dehumanization which technology brings into society, it is important for me to take computer courses so that I can have a wide range of information about the different uses of technology and as a future teacher it will help me a lot in preparing and presenting my lesson. Today, the role of educational technology in teaching is of great importance because of the use of information and communication technologies. Educational technology has improved the teaching-learning process and made it more effective and process oriented. Through collaboration needed in group reporting, I learned in this course that the presence of educational technology is really growing in the classroom. Provided by a systematic organization of content and instructional materials, educational technology has provided well-integrated structured materials for teachers and can help them save a lot of time to prepare and present the lesson and be more visually appealing and conducive for student’s learning.
