In 2014, more than 75 vendors self-identified as DCIM providers, including many with individual point solutions or proprietary monitoring hardware. When Gartner began defining DCIM as an integrated solutions suite, the list quickly shrank to less than two dozen. So what are the “must-haves” necessary to be considered a serious player in the DCIM arena?

Field Data Gathering Services — A Cloud-Based ApproachSchneider Electric
Utilities today wish to facilitate the capture of asset information in the field in a way that is not only scalable but cost effective. They need a system that is simple to use, inexpensive to implement, flexible enough to meet ever-changing needs, yet also powerful enough to cover a majority of their needs with immediacy. This paper describes Schneider Electric's powerful cloud-based solution to optimize the inspection and gathering of field information.
The Mine Central Control Room: From Concept to Reality Schneider Electric
Presented at the 2013 Society of Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration Annual Meeting (SME 2013). The main concept of a central control room is the ability to gather and automatically transform information from different sources and mines into business decisions, centralizing and monitoring them from a single location. This central control room also acts as a complete repository of all business operations including mine planning, metrics, asset management, quality and process control, surveillance, sustainability data, emissions, energy efficiency projects, weather and more.
How green standards are changing data center design and operationsSchneider Electric
An effort is underway to harmonize certain energy-efficiency standards. Could global standardization ultimately diminish the technical effectiveness of such standards? Which will emerge as the de facto standards? This session will explore these questions, as well in data center efficiency and sustainability guidelines.
This is the last of a 3-part series "DCIM for High Availability" presented by GreenField Software. It first defines "high availability" and then gives instances of some recent high profile Data Center failures in spite of their robustness and extreme in-built redundancies. The business impact of Data Center failures is highlighted.
Data Center topology has changed in the last two decades as a result of the High Availability Mantra and new tools are required to effectively manage the Modern Data Center. DCIM Software today has matured to a level where it is no longer an option. Data Centers of all sized need to implement DCIM not just to reduce risks of Data Center failures, but also to arrest increasing capital costs and operating expenses.
GFS Crane DCIM Software is a great example as the two DCIM Case Studies show in this presentation.
The following GFS Crane capabilities have been included in this presentation:
- Improved Availability through Predictability, Visibility and Change Tracking.
- Controlling Capex Costs though better visibility of under-utilized capacities and therefore deferring expensive capital expenditures; and minimizing stranded capacities.
- Reducing Operating Expenses: Real-time monitoring and multi-level PUE helps to reduce power costs; automation of processes improves productivity; and rationalization of assets reduces AMC and space rentals.
The presentation concludes with two GFS Crane DCIM Case Studies: in Financial Services and Telecom verticals.

Learning simulators reflect the expertise of software programmers, technical experts and learning professionals in creating real-life workplace scenarios that require decision making on the part of the training employee. Not to be confused with e-learning or laboratory practice, these simulators offer the flexibility to address the aptitudes, tools and motivations specific for the employee’s role. By actively involving trainees and exposing them to the consequences and results of their decisions, learning is improved significantly compared to training that does not involve interactivity. This approach also improves the trainee’s motivation and confidence. Organizations benefit not only from more comprehensive employee knowledge but also heightened on-the-job employee engagement – all with less training cost and time invested.
Business sectors that see particular advantage to learning simulators are public utilities, industrial machinery, transportation, education, social services, and hotel and restaurant services. Beyond learning the processes and procedures involved and the relevant regulations and safety guidelines for the specific sector, the employee gains appropriate customer interaction skills through real-world scenarios requiring decision making and evaluation of the results of those decisions.
Schneider Electric has developed learning simulators that have proven highly successful for Ministry-level programs and for industry federations in Spain; for risk prevention programs in regional governments; and socially and environmentally sustainable practices in construction work. In these projects, Schneider Electric provided comprehensive definition, design, and technical development and production expertise to help clients realize the benefits of effective learning simulation.

Higher computing capacities, lower footprint size of blade servers and highly virtualized infrastructures combined with increasing power densities of racks require lower area size of data centers. Hence, the 2000-square-foot built-up area can now be done with half the size for same compute capacity, thereby changing the cost equations. The upward trend of virtualization and higher power densities with improved thermal efficient data center architectures and technologies will further reduce costs of owning a captive data enter.

Energy is one of the largest costs for process facilities. While operators can save significant money with minimal impact to production, they often lack structured and automated digital technologies to identify and sustain performance improvements. The situation is further exacerbated by the lack of inconsistent data and inaccurate tools. This presentation will showcase how a process facility combines real-time data, site-wide digital twin, and proprietary analytics in a digital energy management solution to deliver up to 15% sustainable reduction in facility energy costs and carbon footprint. Performance gaps are automatically identified and broken down using a best technology benchmark to highlight improvement areas in real-time. Daily facility energy improvement opportunity lists are provided for operators to maximize value and track the efficacy of planned capital projects with accurate projections so operators can make faster informed decisions for capital allocation throughout the implementation cycle.

How to Position Your Globus Data Portal for Success Ten Good PracticesGlobus
Science gateways allow science and engineering communities to access shared data, software, computing services, and instruments. Science gateways have gained a lot of traction in the last twenty years, as evidenced by projects such as the Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI) and the Center of Excellence on Science Gateways (SGX3) in the US, The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) and its platforms in Australia, and the projects around Virtual Research Environments in Europe. A few mature frameworks have evolved with their different strengths and foci and have been taken up by a larger community such as the Globus Data Portal, Hubzero, Tapis, and Galaxy. However, even when gateways are built on successful frameworks, they continue to face the challenges of ongoing maintenance costs and how to meet the ever-expanding needs of the community they serve with enhanced features. It is not uncommon that gateways with compelling use cases are nonetheless unable to get past the prototype phase and become a full production service, or if they do, they don't survive more than a couple of years. While there is no guaranteed pathway to success, it seems likely that for any gateway there is a need for a strong community and/or solid funding streams to create and sustain its success. With over twenty years of examples to draw from, this presentation goes into detail for ten factors common to successful and enduring gateways that effectively serve as best practices for any new or developing gateway.

Why React Native as a Strategic Advantage for Startup Innovation.pdfayushiqss
Do you know that React Native is being increasingly adopted by startups as well as big companies in the mobile app development industry? Big names like Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest have already integrated this robust open-source framework.
In fact, according to a report by Statista, the number of React Native developers has been steadily increasing over the years, reaching an estimated 1.9 million by the end of 2024. This means that the demand for this framework in the job market has been growing making it a valuable skill.
But what makes React Native so popular for mobile application development? It offers excellent cross-platform capabilities among other benefits. This way, with React Native, developers can write code once and run it on both iOS and Android devices thus saving time and resources leading to shorter development cycles hence faster time-to-market for your app.
Let’s take the example of a startup, which wanted to release their app on both iOS and Android at once. Through the use of React Native they managed to create an app and bring it into the market within a very short period. This helped them gain an advantage over their competitors because they had access to a large user base who were able to generate revenue quickly for them.

Understanding Globus Data Transfers with NetSageGlobus
NetSage is an open privacy-aware network measurement, analysis, and visualization service designed to help end-users visualize and reason about large data transfers. NetSage traditionally has used a combination of passive measurements, including SNMP and flow data, as well as active measurements, mainly perfSONAR, to provide longitudinal network performance data visualization. It has been deployed by dozens of networks world wide, and is supported domestically by the Engagement and Performance Operations Center (EPOC), NSF #2328479. We have recently expanded the NetSage data sources to include logs for Globus data transfers, following the same privacy-preserving approach as for Flow data. Using the logs for the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) as an example, this talk will walk through several different example use cases that NetSage can answer, including: Who is using Globus to share data with my institution, and what kind of performance are they able to achieve? How many transfers has Globus supported for us? Which sites are we sharing the most data with, and how is that changing over time? How is my site using Globus to move data internally, and what kind of performance do we see for those transfers? What percentage of data transfers at my institution used Globus, and how did the overall data transfer performance compare to the Globus users?

PUE Measurement as per Green Grid Recommendation
Depending on size, scale and tier of a data center, its efficiency program can mainly be at three levels of
maturity namely Basic, Intermediate and Advanced.
Green Grid recommendeds three levels of PUE calculation corresponding to the maturity levels as
illustrated in the table below.
→ Customer had been measuring weekly PUE from UPS output till now, in line with Basic Maturity Level
→ Customer is now measuring IT power from the BUSBAR output to each rack which is being captured by
DCIM to provide daily PUE report. Hence they comply with the Intermediate Maturity Level now.
→ Customer has started measuring power consumption of individual servers and other IT devices at 95%
accuracy using the ‘soft-metering’ capability of the DCIM. Customer will soon be upgrading the PUE
measurement process to the Advanced Level and monitor the PUE of the data center continuously
through the DCIM.
