This document summarizes an interdisciplinary symposium on coca and cocaine. The symposium featured presentations on the environmental impacts of coca cultivation, the relationship between coca and land use change, and the effectiveness and unintended consequences of aerial eradication programs. Discussants addressed how coca cultivation is connected to issues of economic development, land tenure, and drug policy outcomes. The goal of the symposium was to advance understanding of the complex social and environmental issues related to coca production and the war on drugs in Latin America.
