Regulatory Innovation Zones for Smart Energy NetworksLeonardo ENERGY
European RD&I Demonstration activities related to smart grids are key to test and validate the functionalities of new products and services in controlled but real environment. However, being the grid sector regulated the development and validation of innovative solutions is often slowed down.
Energy Transition needs innovation acceleration. Many of the changes needed are related to evolving relationship between the different energy stakeholders. Two main drivers foster innovation in the energy sector: demonstration and regulation. Demonstration enables to test new products and services in real environment, to fine-tune them and to measure their real impact; regulation defines the framework and the technical and economic relations between the different agents operating in the energy sector.
In this context, Regulatory Innovation Zones for Smart Energy Networks (or “Innovation Sandboxes”) are an opportunity to close that gap, speeding-up market uptake, while enabling European Regulatory Bodies to test various temporary schemes and mechanisms without modifying the regulatory framework.
Comprehensive On&Off-Grid Planning For Universal Access. The Reference Electr...Leonardo ENERGY
The webinar offers a new approach to least-cost electrification planning, deciding down to each individual customer the best (least-cost) supply model, whether grid connection, distributed off-grid microgrids, or even a DC solar kit or an AC stand-alone solar system. By dealing with distributed electrification technologies, smart grid compatible off-grid technologies, demand management or digital utilities, in the context of developing countries, where 1.2 billion people still lack any electricity supply and around 500 million more suffer from a very low reliability and frequent blackouts, the savings offered by this comprehensive approach contribute to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goal 7, ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2. Alianza Shire. Introduction
www.alianzashire.org
Alianza Shire is a multistakeholder partnership formed by the Spanish Cooperation Agency
(AECID), three energy leading companies (Iberdrola, Signify and Acciona.org) and the
Innovation and Technology for Development Centre from the Technical University of Madrid
(itdUPM)
Phase II intervention is located in Shire refugee camps and their host communities (Northern
Ethiopia), from 2018 to 2021
Two project components:
On-grid: connection of communal services and installation of street lighting to the national
grid
Off-grid: creation of a market-based delivery model for the supply of more than 1700 Solar
Home Systems
3. Preliminary notes
www.alianzashire.org
This presentation focuses on the main conclusions and learning extracted after data
collection in Alianza Shire intervention which are relevant for this workshop
All information has been collected both, for planning and intervention design
purposes
Gender dissagregated data has been collected for all aplicable indicators
For surveys and camp visits, GPS and KoboToolBox are the main used tools
Cooking at household level, heating and cooling services are not included due to the
project specifications
4. General information
www.alianzashire.org
The difference between household and shelter concepts at UNHCR system is
important, and both data are relevant. Shelter address data should be available
Depending on the intervention’s approach, average stay at the camps should be
known
Lack of a common criteria to define the host community radio
Identify coordination mechanisms and their leaders is critical, specially when
there are project with different or complementary approaches (market solutions
Vs. free delivery, product Vs. service, training and later livelihood opportunities,
etc)
Identification of energy training institutions/programmes and energy related
capacities available in the area should be included
5. Energy for households and productive uses
www.alianzashire.org
A combination of information about source of electricity, main uses and cost is
required to plan and design for household electricity solutions
Differences of business energy use, consumption and payment (high-energy and
low-energy demanding businesses) should be collected
Two special cases regarding businesses:
Electricity distribution businesses: could be both, an opportunity and a risk
for the project
Mobile charging shops: should be considered from both, the business and
user point of view
6. Energy for community facilities & other
special cases
www.alianzashire.org
Note the differences among low consumption facilities (recreative, theoretical
training, etc) and high consumption facilities
Special case: electrical communal kitchens with high electricity demand (over 50kW
per kitchen)
Street lighting:
Verification among written information Vs. reality (few functioning lamps)
Community prioritization of lighting areas, considering protection and
productive factors
