Termis is a software solution that optimizes heating and cooling networks to reduce energy usage, costs, and CO2 emissions. It monitors networks in real-time, optimizes supply temperatures to minimize heat loss, and simulates "what if" scenarios to predict network behavior and plan interventions. Customers typically see 10-20% reductions in heat loss and energy costs within 18 months of implementing Termis.

The Challenges…
Page 9Confidential Property of Schneider Electric |
District energy utilities are expected today
to reduce energy consumption
and CO2 emissions.
District energy managers have little or no
idea of what happens to the energy
once it leaves the plant.

12. How does Termis work?
Page 12Confidential Property of Schneider Electric |
The operator does not require any in-depth knowledge of Termis.
By scrolling back and forth on a simple button interface he can obtain the information
he need such as pressure, flow and temperature for any given point in time - in the past
or in the future.
The Termis model is fed with live information from the SCADA system.
Different variables, such as supply temperature, return temperature, pressure and flow
can be displayed. Effects of interventions, such as opening or closing of valves can be
assessed by simulations, which reveal disturbances in consumer supply.

Termis is the district energy plants’ tool for improving:
> Energy consumption and hydraulic performance
While reducing:
> Energy cost
> Operation cost
> Customer complaints
> Capital investments
Termis
Termis is the most advanced, effect full and extensive simulation tool
for improving system design and operation in district energy plants.

The underlying Termis model accurately calculates:
> Heat loss in the network
> Transportation time for heating from plant to consumer
> Storage capacity of the pipes and any heat storage tanks
Heat storage – eg. to accomodate morning peaks – is automatically recommended if
it is economically viable. Changes in fluctuations are handled in due time
Smooth operation at minimum cost – saves energy!

Benefits
> Reduction in heat loss: Typically 10% of the current heat loss
> Reliability in operation
> Fluctuations in temperature are moved into the plant instead of being at the
consumer -> saving costs in the net

Simplified savings calculation:
Reduction = 1- (((Tfo –Tout) + (Trn – Tout)) / ((Tft – Tout) + (Trt – Tout)))
Tft = Supply side temperature, not optimized
Trt = Return side temperature, not optimized
Tout = Average outside temperature
Tfo = Supply side temperature, optimized
Trn = Return side temperature, optimized (normally equal to return side temperature
not optimized)

Reduction (%) at 5°C = 8.68%
Reduction (%) at 10°C = 17.36%
Price energy = 70.59 DKK/GJ
Heat loss/year = 46 TJ
At 5°C = 8.68% x 46 TJ x 70.59 DKK/GJ = 282,000 DKK/yr
or 38,000 €/yr
At 10°C = 17.36% x 46 TJ x 70.59 DKK/GJ = 564,000 DKK/yr
