A survey of 24 students found that most had online accounts and accessed them often. Half had received inappropriate messages or gossip online. Most were aware of sexting and thought authorities rarely handled it. Half had been bullied and most agreed bullying occurs daily in school, though opinions varied on ways to stop it. National statistics also showed high rates of online harassment, bullying, and cyberbullying through chat rooms and social media. The effects of cyberbullying are similar to traditional bullying and include telling trusted adults and not engaging further when being bullied.
