Zambia Weighbridges. (South Africa/ Zambia) 2015 to 2016 Senior Engineering Technician/Draughts
Person. Aurecon in associated with SNA did the Feasibility study and Identification of locations for the
construction of Fixed Electronic Weighbridges on the core Road network. Recommendations were made on
the existing weighbridges after inspecting them. (Road Development Agency).
N3Toll Concession (South Africa) 2015 to date. Senior Engineering Technician/Draughts Person. Aurecon
acts as the Independent Engineer for the Concession Contract. The design, construction, finance, operation
and maintenance of a portion of the National Route N3. This project includes the auditing of the operating and

Vuk’uphile Contractor Development Programme, Northwest Provincial Department of Transport &
Public Works, South Africa Engineering Technician/Draughts Person. The Vuk'Uphile project is located in
the North West Province of South Africa with road maintenance, building, road works and clean-up activities
scattered throughout the four districts and 22 municipal districts within the province. Aurecon was appointed
as the project managers for the Vuk'Uphile learnership programme which is intended to develop emerging
contractors into fully fledged contractors able to execute labour intensive projects. Responsible for the
assessment of road infrastructure of the four districts by means of data capturing and listing of all the road
maintenance aspects such as, grass cutting, stormwater structures, road signs, road markings and
guardrails, erosion of fills and cuttings, edge breaks, side drains and road surface defects. The compilation

The upgrading of Simon Vermooten Road (Gauteng Province, South Africa) 05/2012 – 01/2015.
Engineering Technician/Draughts Person. The project entails the upgrading of Simon Vermooten Road
between Lynnwood and Waltloo roads to a six lane, divided dual carriageway road. Traffic congestion
experienced by road users would be alleviated and the preparation for the implementation of the BRT public
transport system will also serve the same purpose in the future. The project also stimulates job creation by
supporting the motor manufacturing industry in the Waltloo area (SAMCOR). Responsible for the design of

Cuando Cubango Roads Phase 1 (Menongue, Angola) 04/2012 - 12/2013. Engineering
Technician/Draughts Person. The client required detailed design for the emergency opening of 1 200 km of
roads in the province of Cuando Cubango. The areas in which these roads are situated were inaccessible
during the rainy season. The solution involved geometric, pavement and hydraulics design. The scope of works
consisted of a site visit, the design stage and reporting. Responsible for the design of access roads and
intersections, which include General layout Plan and Profile, Intersection layout -, Contours -, Setting Out -
and Road Signs and Marking plans. Create DTM file (survey points) for the detailed design and check survey

Detailed design of Gombe Biu Road (Nigeria) 01/2012 - 07/2013. Engineering Technician/Draughts Person.
The project entailed the detailed design for the rehabilitation and minor upgrading of the Gombe Biu Road.
Aurecon's tasks included a review of previous studies, detailed inventories, materials testing and evaluation,
drainage and run-off calculations, and minor geometric improvements. The deliverables were a set of
construction drawings, bidding/contract documents, and a design report. Responsible for the design of access

Detail design for the rehabilitation of the Namakunde Unongue Road (Angola) 01/2012 - 05/2012.

Engineering Technician/Draughts Person. The Provincial Government of Cunene identified the need to
upgrade the Namakunde Unongue Road to an all-weather gravel road. The road, which provides access to
the Ofenda and Ounonge villages and to the rural settlements in the area, became impassable during the rainy
season. The most challenging aspect of the design was the drainage, as the road crosses through the very
flat Cuvelai drainage area. Another challenge was the sourcing of construction material, as the local material
was fine sandy material with a high plasticity index (PI) and poor strength. Aurecon provided pre-feasibility
design, capital expenditure (CAPEX) estimates, operational expenditure (OPEX) estimates, risk assessments
and project execution plans (PEPs). Responsible for the design of access roads and intersections, which

Lagos-Ibadan Expressway project (Lagos, Nigeria) 11/2011 - 12/2013. Engineering Technician/Draughts
Person. Bi-Courtney Highway Services Ltd (BCHSL) appointed Aurecon to provide independent traffic and
technical advisory services for the design, construction, and operation and maintenance (O&M) of the Lagos -
Ibadan Expressway in Nigeria. The concession will be granted for the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway (E1).
Responsible for the design of roundabouts which include general layout -, road signs -, road markings - and
setting out plans. Also included was the design of stormwater. Involved for 0.39 person-months. (Bi-Courtney
Highway Services Ltd (BCHSL)).
Upgrading of the Handeni to Singida Road (Singida, Tanzania) 07/2011 - 06/2013. Engineering
Technician/Draughts Person. Aurecon was appointed to prepare the preliminary geometric and structural
design and feasibility studies for the upgrading of the 461 km Handeni-Kiberashi-Kwamtoro-Singida road to
bitumen surfaced standard. The solution provided entailed the interpretation of the traffic counts, which were
done by the client (ICL), and performing a HDM4 analysis as part of the feasibility study. All the alternative
routes followed existing roads or tracks. Aurecon also prepared the initial geometric alignments, and was
responsible for the preliminary design of bridges and culverts. Responsible for the design of access roads and
intersections, which include General layout Plan and Profile, Intersection layout -, Contours -, Setting Out -
and Road Signs and Marking plans, Typical detail, Cross Sections. Create DTM file (survey points) for the

Detailed design (FEL 4) of the Nacala Railway Corridor (Malawi and Mozambique) 05/2011 - 01/2014.
Engineering Technician/Draughts Person. The Nacala Railway Corridor Project will transport approximately
18 million tons of coal, derived from the expansion of Moatize Mine (Mozambique) through a railway system
connecting the existing mine in Moatize to a new coal terminal in Nacala Velha (Mozambique) +- 1 000 km.
Aurecon previously developed FEL 1, 2 and 3 studies for the development of the corridor. The detailed design
(FEL 4) entailed the design of the entire railway line and its associated infrastructure, including the geometric
design of the rail; cut and fill slope design and the design of the foundations, namely bridges, culverts and
building structures. The FEL 4 also included the design of retaining walls; borrow pits; interference and access
roads; building structural and electrical services; building wet and fire services; bulk water, sanitation and
electricity and the mechanical design of pump stations. The railway line is designed for a 20.5 t axle load.
Responsible for creation of preference files to be used for all the designs and drawings, typical details,
standards and the update of the horizontal and vertical alignments. Created survey DTM and design surface.
Involved for 4.58 person-months. (Vale Moçambique Limitada).
Malindi-Lunga Lunga and Tanga-Bagamoyo roads (Kenya and Tanzania)01/2011 - 12/2013. Engineering
Technician/Draughts Person. The project entailed a feasibility study for the regional road project between
Kenya (Malindi-Lunga Lunga) and Tanzania (Tanga-Bagamoyo). The project was funded by the African
Development Bank (ADB) which provided a grant to the EAC for the studies and designs of a regional road
project between Kenya and Tanzania. The main objectives of this project were to support the regional activities
which included establishing the EAC Customs Union, promoting transport facilitation, strengthening the
Northern Corridor Transit Transport Coordination Authority (NCTTCA) and establishing the Central Corridor
Transit Transport Facilitation Agency (TTFA), which aimed to remove most of the formalities at the border post.

Rehabilitation of three main streets in Ondjiva (Ondjiva, Angola) 08/2009 - 07/2011. Engineering
Technician/Draughts Person. The project entailed the rehabilitation of three main streets in Ondjiva, with a
total extension of 3 km. The works included the reconstruction of the road pavement structure, the construction
of drainage channels and rehabilitation of the sidewalks, road signs and road marking. The main street is also
a section of the main south-north road linking Angola to Namibia. Construction measures were taken to protect
the road pavement from the underground water. Surface drainage was designed to allow easy access and
cleaning. Markings on the pedestrian crossings were a priority to ensure pedestrian safety. Responsible for

Construction supervision for Singida Katesh Road (Tanzania) 06/2009 - 10/2013. Engineering
Technician/Draughts Person. Aurecon was awarded the supervision contract to monitor the work done by a
Chinese contractor for the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS). The project involved upgrading of
about 65 km of the link between the "safari circuit", the northern zone, the Capital of Tanzania (Dodoma) and
the central corridor. Responsible for the design roads and intersections, which include General layout , Plan
and Profile, Intersection layout -, Contours -, Setting Out - and Road Signs and Marking plans. Create DTM

Upgrading of Laela - Sumbawanga road (Tanzania) 03/2009 - 01/2013. Engineering Technician/Draughts

standards. The improvement of the road facilitates more efficient transportation of products to the markets in
the areas of consumption and promotes regional integration. It also makes the transportation of goods between
Tanzania and Zambia easier. Responsible for the design roads and intersections, which include General layout

bitumen standards. The improvement of the road facilitates more efficient transportation of products to the
markets in the areas of consumption and promotes regional integration. It also makes the transportation of
goods between Tanzania and Zambia (through Tunduma and Kasanga Port on Lake Tanganyika), Burundi,
Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (through Kigoma and Nyakanazi) easier. Responsible for the

Phased rehabilitation of 7 000 km of rural roads in Sudan (South Sudan) 05/2008 - 12/2011. Engineering
Technician/Draughts Person. Aurecon, the lead consultant, supported by BKS as sub-consultant, was
responsible for the rehabilitation and re-establishment of the entire rural network over a period of five years.
The proposed road improvements are expected to cover about 7 000 km of priority rural roads spread over
South Sudan, which includes about 3 000 km in the Upper Nile, Jonglei, Eastern and Central Equatoria states.
The upgrading of the roads also comprise approximately 1 000 km in Western Equatoria, together with about
3 000 km in the Northern and Western Bar el-Ghazal, Warrap, Unity and Lake states. Responsible for
preparation of survey dtm’s. Horizontal and Vertical alignment changes. Tasks also revisions of drainage.

Traffic congestion experienced by road users would be alleviated and the preparation for the implementation of the BRT public transport system will also serve the same purpose in the future. The areas in which these roads are situated were inaccessible during the rainy season. The solution involved geometric, pavement and hydraulics design. The scope of works consisted of a site visit, the design stage and reporting. The road, which provides access to the Ofenda and Ounonge villages and to the rural settlements in the area, became impassable during the rainy season. The most challenging aspect of the design was the drainage, as the road crosses through the very flat Cuvelai drainage area. Another challenge was the sourcing of construction material, as the local material was fine sandy material with a high plasticity index (PI) and poor strength. Aurecon provided pre-feasibility design, capital expenditure (CAPEX) estimates, operational expenditure (OPEX) estimates, risk assessments and project execution plans (PEPs). The concession will be granted for the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway (E1). Responsible for the design of roundabouts which include general layout -, road signs -, road markings - and setting out plans. Upgrading of the Handeni to Singida Road (Singida, Tanzania) 07/2011 - 06/2013. Engineering Technician/Draughts Person. Aurecon was appointed to prepare the preliminary geometric and structural design and feasibility studies for the upgrading of the 461 km Handeni-Kiberashi-Kwamtoro-Singida road to bitumen surfaced standard. The solution provided entailed the interpretation of the traffic counts, which were done by the client (ICL), and performing a HDM4 analysis as part of the feasibility study. All the alternative routes followed existing roads or tracks. Aurecon also prepared the initial geometric alignments, and was responsible for the preliminary design of bridges and culverts. The Nacala Railway Corridor Project will transport approximately 18 million tons of coal, derived from the expansion of Moatize Mine (Mozambique) through a railway system connecting the existing mine in Moatize to a new coal terminal in Nacala Velha (Mozambique) +- 1 000 km. Aurecon previously developed FEL 1, 2 and 3 studies for the development of the corridor. The detailed design (FEL 4) entailed the design of the entire railway line and its associated infrastructure, including the geometric design of the rail; cut and fill slope design and the design of the foundations, namely bridges, culverts and building structures. The FEL 4 also included the design of retaining walls; borrow pits; interference and access roads; building structural and electrical services; building wet and fire services; bulk water, sanitation and electricity and the mechanical design of pump stations. The railway line is designed for a 20.5 t axle load. Responsible for creation of preference files to be used for all the designs and drawings, typical details, standards and the update of the horizontal and vertical alignments. Engineering Technician/Draughts Person. The project entailed a feasibility study for the regional road project between Kenya (Malindi-Lunga Lunga) and Tanzania (Tanga-Bagamoyo). The project was funded by the African Development Bank (ADB) which provided a grant to the EAC for the studies and designs of a regional road project between Kenya and Tanzania. The main objectives of this project were to support the regional activities which included establishing the EAC Customs Union, promoting transport facilitation, strengthening the Northern Corridor Transit Transport Coordination Authority (NCTTCA) and establishing the Central Corridor Transit Transport Facilitation Agency (TTFA), which aimed to remove most of the formalities at the border post. The project entailed the rehabilitation of three main streets in Ondjiva, with a total extension of 3 km. The works included the reconstruction of the road pavement structure, the construction of drainage channels and rehabilitation of the sidewalks, road signs and road marking. The main street is also a section of the main south-north road linking Angola to Namibia. Construction measures were taken to protect the road pavement from the underground water. Surface drainage was designed to allow easy access and cleaning. Markings on the pedestrian crossings were a priority to ensure pedestrian safety.
